    The Raw Review - 20/04/2009

Welcome to the Live Raw Review on the 20th of April. It’s a special one for us at WWEBlog.co.uk as the show was recorded earlier in London, England. Not only that but also because I’m celebrating my 23rd birthday too. Rather than being out partying and shaving a few years off my life, I’m here watching and reporting on tonight’s Raw.

(If you really want to make my birthday there’s a Donate tab up there on the nav bar *wink wink*. I’d be just as happy if you’d consider bookmarking us or joining the mailing list though :) )

Looks like it’ll be a good episode so on with the show…

    Opening Segment

    Jericho is still on Raw

Jericho is still playing the ‘everyone here is a hypocrite’ card and kicks off Raw by calling the crowd a sea of liars. He says he’s finally getting out of here thanks to the draft and is moving on to bigger and better things, namely Smackdown.

He says that a few months down the line the fans will be begging him to come back to Raw but he won’t because he is done with the red brand.

Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat then interrupts the 2008 Superstar of the year and tells him that he is wrong. He explains how the WWE audience are not unappreciative and showed him more respect then he could have ever dreamed of over the WrestleMania long weekend.

Steamboat says that even though the fans might not Jericho, he will; for bringing him back to the ring, putting him on a WrestleMania card and helping him gain the fans admiration once more. Jericho claims that Steamboat actually came out to grab a little more limelight rather than to thank him, then went into his usual drone about the Legends being past it.

Jericho challenges Steamboat to a match at Backlash but before he gets the opportunity to answer John Cena’s music blares and the World Heavyweight Champion makes his way to the ring. Jericho cuts him off before he can start and says he knows what his game is, that he has just come out here to pander to the crowd and as this is his last night on Raw, he doesn’t have to take it. Jericho walks out and as he is heading to the back Steamboat accepts the match for Backlash.

Cena then begins to talk and the British crowd give him a good old fashioned boo. He explains that Vikki won’t be here tonight but she has sent him word that while Edge gets the night off, he has to face Jericho.

    Match 1

    Singles Match
    Chavo Guererro

    Vs.

    Batista

Chavo comes out before this one and introduces himself as one of the newest members of Raw. He says that he plans on showing Vikki that he can do more than push her around in her wheelchair. He plans on demonstrating that he can push around any member of the Raw roster too.

Cue The Animal. I predict a squash match.

One Batista Bomb later and Chavo has his first loss on Raw.

After the match Chavo apologises to his aunt Vikki and claims he wasn’t ready for the match to start. Batista then makes his way back to the ring and delivers another Batista Bomb proving that his readiness made no difference.

    Batista wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    Shane and Batista

Batista and Shane bump into each other backstage and Shane congratulates The Animal on his incredibly fast win. They then discuss the events of last week’s Raw main event in which they fought despite being team-mates. They decided it was a heated situation and that the same thing wouldn’t happen this Sunday at Backlash although there was some definite tension between the two.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Kane

    Vs.

    C.M Punk

Two of Smackdown’s newest superstars slugging it out here in front of the packed London crowd. I’m pretty sure the only reason the brands are still blurring together is that the WrestleMania revenge tour has been promoted over here in the U.K for quite a while and a lot of the commercials used Superstars who have since been drafted to other shows. This way the fans still get to watch the guys they paid to see so I guess everyone wins.

This one barely lasted much longer than the Chavo/Batista match and once again saw Kane job to the smaller guy despite dominating the majority of the bout. Punk rolled up The Big Red Machine against the flow of the match and grabbed an unlikely three count.

    C.M Punk wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    Santino speaks to Santina

Santino comes to the ring and says that he is unhappy that his sister has to kiss Khali next week, but as Marella’s they are honourable so he would like to call her out to the ring and apologise for losing his match last week.

Santina’s music plays but instead of coming out she appears on the titan-tron and says that she cannot live up to the promise made as she has developed a blister on her lip. The titan-tron image then begins to play at double speed (much to the amusement of the crowd) and Santino tries to cover this glitch by saying his sister loves Red Bull.

Santino begins to read out a poem to cheer up his sister, but Beth Phoenix interrupts and lets him know that she requested the Khali Kiss Cam be postponed until Backlash and Vikki Guererro has obliged. Santino berates Phoenix for her actions and says he hopes she wins back the WWE Women’s Championship tonight because she will never be Miss WrestleMania.

    Match 3

Singles Match for the WWE Womens Championship
    Melina (c)

    Vs.

    Beth Phoenix

As good as Phoenix is she has 0% chance of winning this match, simply because the WWE Womens Championship has to go to Smackdown. That and the fact that championships hardly ever change hands on the overseas shows.

Phoenix took an early advantage after driving Melina into the turnbuckle and then using her own foot to beat the back of her head (imagine a scorpion stinging itself, it was something like that.)

Another very short bout and as predicted the win goes to Melina. Beth looked to be closing in for the win when an accidental distraction from Rosa Mendes cost her the match. The WWE Womens Championship is still heading to Smackdown.

Melina wins by Pinfall and retains the WWE Womens Championship.

    Segment 4

    Shane and Triple H

Shane walks into Triple H’s dressing room and wishes him luck for tonights match against Orton. Shane then says he can’t stop thinking about their 3 on 3 match at Backlash and outlines concerns that they can all lose their heads occasionally due to frustration. Triple H assures him that he is going to get out all his frustrations tonight and they will be fine come Backlash.

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    Chris Jericho

    Vs.

    John Cena

Cena enters first to a lukewarm reception mainly consisting of boo’s, he really isn’t liked over here and I fully expect him to take some abuse from the crowd during this one.

Jericho took control early as a ‘Y2J’ chant rang out around the arena. Boo’s echoed as soon as Cena began to regain control and a loud cheer erupted as Jericho put a stop to it and knocked the champ back down. Michael Cole tried to cover the fact that Cena is pretty much disliked over here by saying that ‘no one evokes a response from the WWE Universe quite like John Cena’.

After a slugfest in which every Cena punch was greeted with a boo and every Jericho hand was met with a solid cheer, Cena managed to hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle before Y2J reversed the Attitude Adjustment into a big DDT and almost picked up the 3 count.

Just before the commercials both men ended up on the outside as Jericho drove Cena’s head into the steel steps by jumping from the apron. After the break Jericho picked up another long 2 count and looked to have the match in the palm of his hand until Cena reversed and threw him into the ring post.

Just as it looked like Cena might wrap things up with an Attitude Adjustment, Jericho rolled with the move and did a full flip (landing on his feet rather than his back) then hit a CodeBreaker.

Unfortunately Jericho couldn’t capitalise and Cena kicked out then hit the Attitude Adjustment, but he too couldn’t take advantage and the match continued. Shortly afterwards Cena went for a top rope move but Jericho caught him and locked in a seemingly unescapable Walls of Jericho.

Cena somehow managed to reverse it and locked in the STFU, which Jericho then fought out of and hit an Enziguri. This one is turning into a real classic.

The finish of the match was a really poor way to end what had actually developed into a possible Raw match of the year candidate, as Edge sprinted from backstage and attacked both men causing the disqualification. He then beat down Cena, delivered Spear, hit a Con-Chair-To then explained that if this was a Last Man Standing Match (as it will be Sunday) he would have just won the World Heavyweight Championship.

    Match ended in a No-Contest.

    Match 5

    Singles Match
    The Big Show

    Vs.

    Rey Mysterio

I hope to god Rey Mysterio doesn’t win this one although I’m pretty confident he will do. I can sort of accept that sometimes Rey might be able to get the better of guys like Kane and Mike Knox, but in every possible situation The Big Show should just demolish Rey much in the same way he did Jeff Hardy on Smackdown last week.

But then I guess Show doesn’t sell as many T-Shirts as Rey.

Show starts the match in much the same way all the big guys do against Rey, tossing him around and showing general dominance.

It looked like Rey might be set to pick up another upset win when he hit Show with a 619 to the spine, but this just seemed to anger The Giant who picked Rey up under his arm and drilled him with a massive fist. Show then picked up the 3 count, restoring my confidence in the WWE Creative Team in the process.

After the match medics tended to Mysterio as Raw cut to commercials.

The Big Show wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    Legacy talk about Backlash

DiBiase and Rhodes are backstage and begin discussing Backlash. DiBiase says as much as he likes being in Legacy it just isn’t the same if the leader isnt…

Orton interrupts him and asks him what he was about to say. DiBiase skates round the question and simply says all he was implying is that they shouldn’t have a problem winning at Backlash. Orton agrees with him but says it isn’t due to their team unity, but more due to the fact that he is the best in the business. Orton assures them that Triple H will blow his top this Sunday and tonight he is going to beat Triple H, 100% guarenteed.

    Main Event Match

    No Disqualification Match
    Triple H

    Vs.

    Randy Orton

It doesn’t look like this one will last long based on how little of the show there is left to run, my guess is Triple H will go straight for the Sledgehammer.

Orton comes out of the blocks firing on all cylinders but it doesn’t take long for The Game to turn the tables. Less than a minute in and both guys are on the outside, with Triple H stripping down the announce table. Orton avoids being put through the table then attempts a shot with a garbage can which is also reversed, before both guys end up back inside the squared circle.

A Harley Race style high knee and a clothesline later and Orton is back on the outside where he finally scores a hit with the garbage can as we are sent to the last commercial break of the night.

We re-join just in time to see Orton viciously whip Triple H into the steel steps, then bring the top half into the ring and drill Triple H in the skull gaining a very long 2 count. Following this Orton dragged the base of the steps to the edge of the apron and looked to be setting The Game up for his trademark DDT, but Triple H managed to reverse it and slam his opponents back onto the steel at the same time.

Triple H fought back into it getting a near fall of his own after hitting a Spinebuster onto the garbage can and looked like he might have the match sewn up with a couple of stiff shots from a steel chair, but Orton reversed and put the chair to his own use hitting a DDT onto it. Seconds later Triple H avoided a Punt and regained control, working on Orton’s knee with a selection of high impact shots before locking on the Figure 4.

Orton made it to the ropes but due to the No DQ rules Triple H was allowed to keep the hold locked in. Orton finally escaped by slithering to the outside but The game followed him and the onslaught continued until Priceless got involved after a steel chair had been wrapped around their leaders ankle.

Shane wasn’t too far behind them but he was taken out quickly and things seemed bleak for Triple H. Batista then hit the ring and took out all three members of Legacy before Rhodes raked his eyes and he accidentally hit Shane with a Spear. After a confrontation between Triple H and Batista, Orton scored a RKO and picked up a somewhat unlikely win over The Game just 6 days before Backlash.

    Randy Orton wins by Pinfall.

    The ECW Digest – 21/04/2009

    Opening Segment

    Finlay makes an announcement

Finlay makes his way out to the cheers and adulation of the British crowd. Finlay explains that Hornswoggle has been drafted to Raw and this is his last night on ECW. Finlay asks Hornswoggle to tell the fans what he wants to do and hands him the micraphone. After grunting a few times he screams that he wants to wrestle and the fans begin to cheer for him.

Finlay asks Tiffany to make it happen and then says that Hornswoggle has a goodbye for the fans. Just as he hands him the micraphone for a second time Tyson Kidd and Natalya interrupt him and make their way to the ring.

Kidd patronises Hornswoggle, calling him a midget and saying he’s glad to see the back of him so that real athletes like himself can have more T.V time.

Finlay cuts him off and explains that Hornswoggle is a Leprechaun and Kidd is the midget, drawing a huge cheer from the crowd. Natalya then mentioned her connection with the Hart’s, explaining that when her uncle Brett said he was the best there ever will be he lied, because that’s Tyson’s fate.

While the crowd began chanting ‘Who are Ya?’ Hornswoggle bit Natalya on the backside goading her into a match between the two.

    Match 1

    Singles Match
    Hornswoggle (w/Finlay)

    Vs.

    Natalya (w/Tyson Kidd)

Incredibly short match in which Hornswoggle once again scored an upset victory at the O2 Arena. Last time he competed there it was Matt Striker he defeated, something Josh Matthews was quick to inform everyone of.

Tyson Kidd attempted to get involved in the match but was taken care of by Finlay, while Hornswoggle rolled up Natalya to get a 3 count. After the match Finlay got some of the younger members of the crowd into the ring to celebrate.

    Hornswoggle wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

Natalya and Kidd make a request

Kidd and Natalya barge into the interim G.M’s office and confront Tiffany. Natalya explains that she’s a 3rd generation Superstar and practically royalty, and she wants the ‘little gnome’ Hornswoggle fired for what he did tonight.

Tiffany told her that they need to calm down and show her some respect. Tiffany then makes a tag match between Natalya/Kidd and Hornswoggle/Finlay for ‘Superstars’ on Thursday.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Evan Bourne

    Vs.

    Paul Burchill (w/Katie Lee)

Burchill should be getting cheered as the show is in London, but I think the fact that Paul and particularly Katie Lee’s characters are currently so dislikeable that the crowd got behind Bourne far more.

Burchill purposefully kept the pace slow, with hard hitting offence and a number of submission holds that kept the high flying Bourne grounded for much of this match.

Both guys were impressive in what they did, although it didn’t seem like their styles meshed together too well and the crowd (and even commentary team) seemed to lose interest in certain parts of the match.

Bourne picked up the win with a Shooting Star Press after a very impressive reverse-Huricanrana.

    Evan Bourne wins by Pinfall.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    Vladimir Kozlov

    Vs.

    Frankie Sloan

After a quite frankly disturbing promo video in which Kozlov beat up… some glass bottles, he made his way to the ring to take on ‘local talent’ Frankie Sloan.

Not much background on Sloan for you, I’d personally never heard of him but Matt Striker informed everyone that he is a British Commonwealth Champion.

He has also wrestled as part of ‘Team Britain’ in TNA’s X-Cup Tournament, where they finished last behind USA, Mexico and Canada, and is “part of one of the most successful tag teams in England; The Liverpool Lads with Robbie Brookside” his words, not mine.

If you want to know more about Frankie Sloan you can find his Myspace page here.

I’d love to tell you he’s a great wrestler and put on a good show, but in true WWE ‘Local Talent’ fashion he didn’t get to display much offence before Kozlov destroyed him and picked up the 3.

He did manage to deliver a perfectly executed European Uppercut though, which is more than most get in so kudos to him.

    Vladimir Kozlov wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    ECW Championship contract signing

Tiffany, Christian and Swagger all congregated in the ring around the usual ‘contract signing’ set-up of a table and two chairs. Tiffany explains that both men have read the contract earlier and now it is time to sign it, as well as make any last minute comments.

Christian signs the contract in silence and Swagger asks him if he has any witty one liners to deliver before signing too. Swagger then goes on to say that while Christian was absent from the WWE, a new class of talent came through and he was at the top.

Swagger then gave him respect for winning the Elimination Chase to Backlash but that he knows Christian has realised he can’t beat him.

Christian finally speaks and says that he’d love nothing more than to make fun of him (which he does) but at the end of the day that isn’t going to win him the title. He says he’d rather focus on Backlash and winning the title, which Swagger laughs at before holding the title in Christians face, before throwing it at him and delivering a Powerbomb through the table to end the show.

    The Superstars Recap - 23/04/2009

    Opening Match

    Tag Team Match
    Rey Mysterio & C.M Punk

    Vs.

    The Big Show & Kane

Kane and The Big Show are former tag team champions and on paper it would look practically impossible for Rey and Punk to win this one. However, Rey Mysterio has been the bane of Kane’s life for the past year scoring unlikely victories left and right, so we’ll have to see what happens.

Show and Kane dominated Mysterio for most of the match before the luchador managed to tag in Punk who looked like he might carry enough momentum to get an victory. Show prevented this by distracting Mr. Money in the Bank while he was on the top rope, before Kane capitalised and hit a big chokeslam to pick up a long over-due victory.

Kane & The Big Show win by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    ‘Mixed’ Tag Team Match
    Tyson Kidd & Natalya

    Vs.

    Finlay & Hornswoggle

Due mostly to the fact Hornswoggle scored an unlikely victory over Natalya on ECW, this bizarre match is now taking place on Superstars and will be the last time Finlay and his leprechaun son team together.

In a very short match which included Hornswoggle having a little fun with juggling balls and a shot to Kidd with the Shaleighle, Hornswoggle picked up the 3 count with a Tadpole Splash.

After the match had finished Finlay talked about the two being seporated by the draft. He asked the British crowd to help him sing ‘When Irish Eyes are Smiling’, apparently the little guys favorite song.

Afterwards there are emotional scenes as the pair hug at the top of the ramp to wrap up their last appearance together (in the near future at least).

Finlay & Hornswoggle win by Pinfall.

    Segment 1

    Interview with John Cena

After footage of the incident Todd Grisham asks Cena how Edge’s attack on Raw will affect him coming into Backlash. Cena informs Grisham that tonight he won’t talk to him, but instead he’ll tak to the viewers of ‘Superstars’.

Cena says he realises the footage from Raw is graphic, but it had to be shown because it illustrates that there really is nowhere else to go for Cena and Edge. He said they’d made each others careers and done everything they possibly could to each other, now they will meet one last time at Backlash.

He then used a Baseball analogy likening the rivalry to the one between the Yankees and the Red Sox which possibly wasn’t the best choice given this week’s show was in London, but his basic point was that…well I’m not sure.

I think he was trying to explain that if there was only one more match between the two of them they’d do pretty much anything to win it, just the same as Edge and Cena.

Not the best promo I’ve ever seen but it padded out the show.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    Edge

    Vs.

    Kofi Kingston

A tune up match here for Edge leading into Backlash although the commentary team were pretty keen to explain how good Kingston can be and what a win in this match would mean for him.

This match was used to promote Edge’s match at Backlash as far as the commentary team goes, with around 75% of the talk focusing on the lead up to his Last Man Standing match against Cena. Brilliant strategy when you consider how little time there is to build up angles between Mania and Backlash.

It’s interesting to note that since WrestleMania there has been hardly any mention of the ‘love triangle’ storyline that had developed between Vikki/Edge/Big Show, which before the landmark PPV had been the main vehicle for the World Heavyweight Championship match. Hopefully they’ve dropped it all and realised just how ridiculous it all was.

Kofi and Edge put on a very good match which actually ran way longer than I expected it would do. There were even a few moments when it looked like Kingston might pick up an upset victory, with the Jamaican high flyer hitting some spectacular offence and scoring a couple of long 2 counts.

Edge grabbed the victory in the end though with a Gore-like Spear out of nowhere which almost snapped Kingston in half. Despite the outcome, this match will have done Kingston no harm what so ever as he put in a brilliant performance that didn’t deserve the loss it culminated in.

    Edge wins by Pinfall.

    The Smackdown Summary - 24/04/2009

    Opening Segment

    Edge Repeats Himself

Tonight’s Smackdown wraps up a pretty good week of WWE action emanating from the U.K. Sadly I didn’t get to attend any of the WrestleMania Revenge tour because I’d spent all my money on our servers (just kidding), so here I am bringing you all the action from Smackdown going in to Backlash.

The show kicks off with Edge who outlines how he has beaten Cena in the past, explaining how he won his first World Title by cashing in Money in the Bank after Cena had retained the belt in a gruelling Elimination Chamber match.

Edge said that no matter how many times he had beaten Cena, he kept coming back… that was until last week on Raw. Edge then shows clips of the Con-Chair-To and following scenes from the conclusion of Match 4 on Raw. When we re-join Edge he is standing under a spotlight, from where he explains again that he hates everything about Cena and that if he doesn’t win the title on Sunday he has literally nothing.

He says that his wife Vikki can’t help him and that he has no friends (both of which draw a mixture of boo’s and laughter from the crowd) before admitting that he is a desperate man but come the end of Backlash he will be Champion and Last Man Standing.

Nothing new here at all, it’s all stuff that’s been said before just re-packaged.

    Match 1

    Tag Team Match
    C.M Punk & Jeff Hardy

    Vs.

    Kane & Matt Hardy

We are treated to another look at Matt Hardy dropping a stupid number of Leg Drop’s on Jeff last week before this match begins.

While the guys make their entrances, J.R and Todd Grisham do a bit of promo work for the matches scheduled to take place at Backlash, so I’ll do the same. Check out the ‘Backlash Confirmed Matches‘ Page to see what’s scheduled for Backlash.

Possible spoiler here, but during this match a number of events were advertised to take place across the U.K in November, going by the name of the ‘DX Invasion Tour’. It seems unlikely that DX will re-form in the near future, but it is equally strange that they would name a tour after a faction that are not even together. We’ll have to keep an eye on that situation.

As for this match, it was a lot more balanced than the Tag Team match Kane and Punk took part in on Superstars, although Kane and Matt Hardy did seem to have the upper hand more than their opponents, working surprisingly well as a team for guys who have had their problems in the past.

Jeff began to build offense and looked like he might even score a pinfall over his estranged brother, but Kane entered the ring to prevent this before being knocked to the outside and taken down by C.M Punk. Moments later Jeff went for a Twist of Fate which Matt reversed, before pushing him into Kane who had made his way back onto the apron, then rolled him up for the three count as he staggered backwards.

Matt is now 3-0 against his brother and surely Jeff has to end this streak at Backlash.

Matt Hardy & Kane win by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    The Big Show

    Vs.

    The Undertaker

This match certainly won’t be pretty, but it should be interesting given both men’s stature both in terms of size and reputation. After all, this was a PPV quality match only a few months ago.

Before the match Show grabbed a microphone and said the Smackdown locker room can now breathe a sigh of relief as this will be his last match before moving to Raw as a result of the 2009 Draft. He talked about his deadly right hand before telling Taker he will put him down with it just like he did a few months before.

Show did well to control the match in the early going, but as he went for a Big Boot Taker moved out of the way and got hung up over the top rope, before The Deadman delivered a Big Boot of his own which sent the giant crashing to the outside.

Following a commercial break it was clear Show had regained the upper hand and seconds later a clip showed just how; by whipping Taker hard into the guard wall. The commentators then began playing on Taker’s supposed neck injury and true to form in his matches following Mania, The Deadman’s opponent began focusing on it.

Against the run of the match Taker attempted a Chokeslam but Show countered with an elbow to (you guessed it) the neck. He then hit a massive Chokeslam of his own but somehow The Undertaker managed to kick out.

Taker again gained control and this time went for Old School but Show again countered him and hit the massive right hand that has now become his trademark move. Taker looked completely out of it as Show stalked him and landed another right hand, this time to the back of the head which caused the referee to stop the match and award The Big Show the win.

After the bell Taker pulled himself to his feet and demanded the match continue, but he looked like a beaten man. Show laughed at him and then went for a cheap shot but The Deadman avoided it and landed a few punches of his own to save face.

The Big Show wins by Pinfall.

    Match 3

    Diva’s Championship Match
    Maryse (c)

    Vs.

    Gail Kim

As the WWE Women’s Championship is heading to Smackdown around the waist of Melina it’s pretty much a dead cert that the Diva’s Championship has to head over to Raw, which makes this match seems pretty pointless as the outcome has to be a win for Maryse.

Gail Kim mounted a lot more offense than she did in the non-title match on Smackdown last week but as predicted Maryse picked up the win and retained her title with a DDT.

Maryse wins by Pinfall and retains the Diva’s Championship.

    Segment 2

Jeff Hardy/ M.V.P and The View

Oh joy, it’s another Jeff Hardy promo. I’ll try my best to extract any important information out of it for anyone who may be reading this:

Nothing important really. It was the strangest promo I’ve seen in a long time and not just because of Jeff’s inability to control the pitch and levels of his voice when trying to convey emotion. He seemed to be sat at the top of a ladder, the kind you’d see going up a water tower with the cage around them. There was purple and green neon lighting and the camera kept spinning and moving back and forth. Jeff basically said that although Matt had beaten him 3 times in a row, next week on Raw he would be known as the Hardy who quit when it mattered the most.

Strange stuff and part of me hopes Jeff does win at Backlash just so we don’t have to hear him speak.

After some commercials we are treated to a clip of ‘The View’ in which Sherri Shepherd confirmed what Teddy Long said last week about her liking M.V.P. (For anyone in the U.K who doesn’t know what The View is, think Loose Women.)

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    M.V.P

    Vs.

    Chavo Guererro

As of next week both these guys will be Raw Superstars and as such both guys were fighting for a successful send off from Smackdown in this match. Chavo got squashed by Batista on Raw after claiming he was planning on impressing both the crowd and his Aunt Vikki so it seemed he had a point to prove in this one, not mention what a victory over the U.S Champion would do for his status.

It wasn’t to be on this occasion though, as M.V.P picked up a fairly quick win with the Drive By.

After the match Dolph Ziggler appeared and said he hopes Sherri Shepherd and everyone else enjoyed the match as it would be the last time he left the ring as the U.S Champion. He said that next week in on Smackdown from Madison Square Garden he will win the title.

So the Roster Draft comes into effect after Backlash, but Ziggler who will be a Smackdown competitor will take on M.V.P who will be a Raw competitor on Smackdown? I don’t know why they even bothered doing the roster draft if they aren’t going to stick to it.

    M.V.P wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Tag Team Match
    Batista & Shane McMahon

    Vs.

    Priceless

This will be the final match before Backlash and I personally think the 6-Man Tag Match has been promoted perfectly. We’ve seen all 6 guys pair off and take each other on, we’ve seen Team Triple H take on 2 members of Legacy in a handicap match and now we are seeing 2 guys from each team fight, but we’ve never actually had all 6 guys involved in one match.

This was the problem with a couple of the matches at WrestleMania this year, as at least 2 of the heavily promoted ones had been done numerous times in the lead up to the event, leaving nothing to keep the fans wondering what might happen.

Shane and Batista started off well, working together as a unit and hitting some impressive double team offence. Priceless managed to gain the upper hand when Shane let himself be distracted by DiBiase while Rhodes took advantage and  hit a big dropkick to the back, before keeping Shane isolated and unable to make a tag to The Animal.

After taking a hell of a beating Shane accidentally knocked Batista off the apron. The Animal stormed into the ring and looked like he may be making a beeline for Shane, although instead he pushed him out of the way and caught DiBiase coming off the top rope and hit a massive Spinebuster. Shane took advantage of this, knocking Cody from the apron and covering DiBiase for the three count before celebrating with Batista as the show went off the air.

Shane McMahon and Batista win by Pinfall.
