The Raw Review - 15/06/2009
Tonight’s Raw is a special ’3 for all’ event, which from what I can make out is basically a mini Pay Per View with a Championship match from each brand at the top of the card. Should be an interesting one!
On with the show…
Opening Segment
Mr. McMahon In Attendance
The show kicks off with King and Cole who tell the audience (at least those of us watching on T.V) that Mr. McMahon is here tonight after the shock resignation by Vickie Guerrero last week. King then says he has heard rumours that he’s here for something other than that, before things cut to a clip reel of Batista’s injury at the hands of Orton and Triple H’s return last week.
After the titles the three commentary teams outline their main event matches. Raw’s looks the most interesting as the WWE Championship has been declared vacant due to Batista’s injury. Triple H, Randy Orton, The Big Show and John Cena will therefore compete to see who the new champ will be.
Match 1
Intercontinental Championship Match
Chris Jericho
Vs.
Rey Mysterio
Jericho speaks before the match and says since he left Raw it has ended up in the toilet. He insults the fans for a little while then goes on to talk about ‘setting Mysterio free’. Rey appears for the first time since Extreme Rules, still masked.
Mysterio started the match aggressively as he did at Extreme Rules but it wasn’t long before Jericho turned the tide, using his own momentum to send him first into the ring post and then the announce table.
J.R again went on about how much the mask means to a Mexican wrestler, how they have to earn it and how having it removed is the biggest dis-honour they can face.
At one point during the match a ticker proclaiming ‘BREAKING NEWS: Mr. McMahon to appoint a new General Manager tonight live on Raw’ passed across the bottom of the screen like something you’d see on CNN or BBC News 24. I liked it, I hope they keep doing them.
A count down to the WWE Championship match also appeared sporadically, indicating there was xx minutes and xx seconds until the fatal 4 way bout. I wouldn’t have thought they could be that precise, but there you go.
Both guys constantly reversed each other in this match, as soon as one built a head of steam the other would put an end to it. Mysterio looked like regaining the title with a 619 but Jericho caught him as he went for the Seated Senton.
Seconds later the champ hit a brutal Codebreaker as Mysterio tried to protect his mask, picking up the victory and retaining the gold.
Chris Jericho wins by Pinfall and retains the Intercontinental Championship.
Segment 2
A Pair of Interviews
Backstage Josh Matthews asks Orton about what happened last week on Raw when Triple H returned. Orton cuts him off before he can go over the details and starts talking about how he took Batista and Triple H out of action.
He says in a matter of minutes Triple H’s return is going to be insignificant as he is going to win the fatal 4 way and once again become the WWE Champion.
John Cena then arrives and tells Matthews to leave, before impersonating a backstage interviewer and ripping into Orton, saying the WWE Universe think he is a gutless and spineless. Cena then tells Orton that he and Triple H aren’t the only ones in that match and they shouldn’t rule out him or The Big Show.
Michael Cole then introduces Mr. McMahon who says he had come here to introduce the new G.M of Raw, but he won’t, he’ll let some one else do it.
He talked about seizing opportunities when they come along, before dropping the bombshell that he is selling Monday Night Raw and will announce who to after the WWE Championship match, hinting that it is someone you wouldn’t ever suspect.
Match 2
ECW Championship Match
Christian
Vs.
Tommy Dreamer (c)
An incredibly short match to kick off the 3 World Title matches.
After a bit of back and forth Christian landed badly on his ankle after an attempted top rope move. Dreamer reversed the KillSwitch, flipping Christian onto the bad ankle again which he instinctively grabbed.
Dreamer capitalised and rolled him up to score a 3 count and retain the ECW Championship.
Tommy Dreamer wins by Pinfall and retains the ECW Championship.
Segment 3
Diva Speculation
Backstage the Bella’s and Kelly Kelly speculated on who might have bought Raw. The names Oprah, Paris Hilton and The President came up.
Afterwards footage of the attack on Batista and Triple H’s return played in preparation for the upcoming match.
They also showed pictures of surgery on Batista’s arm which is genuinely injured, something I hadn’t realised and I assume took place at Extreme Rules as he had been publicised for appearances on WWE’s overseas tours right up until the PPV.
Match 3
WWE Championship Fatal 4 Way Match
Randy Orton
Vs.
Triple H
Vs.
John Cena
Vs.
The Big Show
There’s something a bit special about Fatal 4 way matches.
Fatal 4 way matches for the WWE Championship are even better, and a Fatal 4 way WWE Championship match without a champion to start off with is even better than that.
The two personal rivalries involved in this match seemed to take centre stage at the start, but it soon broke down as Cena and Triple H went at each other.
Cena looked to be getting the upper hand but The Game hit back with a Spinebuster before going for a Pedigree which he couldn’t pull off. Soon after Show and Orton made their way back into the ring and took control of the match, separating things once more.
Orton cleverly stayed out of Show’s way until he saw the opportunity to use the Punt and take the giant out of the equation all together. Show managed to avoid taking a boot to the head and dominated all three men shortly afterwards, almost getting a pinfall when he actually hit the 2nd rope splash on Cena.
Order was restored moments later as he failed to hit the same move on Triple H. After a finisher-fest which saw Big Show take a Pedigree, Attitude Adjustment and RKO, Randy Orton seized the moment and covered him to pick up the 3 and steal the title.
Randy Orton wins by Pinfall and becomes the NEW WWE Champion.
Segment 4
Who Owns Raw?
So the question that’s been on everyone’s lips for all of about 20 minutes is: Who now owns Raw?
The more shrewd of you will have noticed that Vince said he had sold RAW rather than the WWE. I smell a brand war building, which can only be a good thing!
Mr. McMahon comes out and says that after a lot of sole searching and financial advice he is sure that selling Raw was the right thing to do.
He then introduced Donald J. Trump as the new owner of Raw.
Trump appears on the screen and tells Vince he had never shown the Raw fans any respect over the last 17 years and as the new owner he planned on giving back to the fans, showing them appreciation.
As his first act in charge of Raw he announced that next week’s Show would be ‘commercial free’ and that he will be there to run things.
Vince said he would say his goodbyes next week, before announcing a 10 man over the top battle royal tonight to decide the #1 contender for the WWE Championship.
Trump’s promo skills are quite frankly awful. It looked like the segment was pre-recorded and it was still completely lousy. I’m hoping he instates a General Manager as soon as possible and stays off-screen for a while.
Match 4
Divas Match
Mickey James
Vs.
Rosa Mendes
Initially Rosa came out with Beth Phoenix, but she confidently told her she could handle things on her own and made her way down the ramp alone.
Before the bell rang Maryse once again came to ringside to get a closer look at her rival Mickey James.
Rosa had a good first singles outing, with the match being a lot more even than I’d have expected. Despite the good performance Mickey still managed to pick up the win with a big DDT.
After her victory Mickey challenged Maryse to step into the ring and face her but the Divas Champion refused.
Mickey James wins by Pinfall.
Segment 5
The Miz Makes an Impact
The Miz interrupts Hornswoggle and Goldust who were firing t-shirts into the crowd and continues to build his non-feud with Cena.
He tells Donald Trump that to take the show to the next level then The Miz should be the new face of Raw.
He says that he beat the hell out of Cena last week and he will do it again tonight in the battle royal, which will be another step on the road to the WWE Championship.
Eventually Goldust cuts him off and tells him that he is pathetic at mind games, choosing to run his mouth rather than actually get into Cena’s head.
He then says he should change his name to ‘The Whizz’ as that’s what everyone gets up to do when he comes out to the ring.
Miz says Goldust is in no position to tell him how to succeed in this business, as it is his 4th time in the WWE and he’s never made anything of himself, before attacking them both to supposedly make a point.
Segment 6
Hypocritical Views
After the commercials Josh Matthews asks C.M Punk if he has any regrets about cashing in his Money in the Bank against a weak Jeff Hardy.
Punk says when he did it to Edge last year no one batted an eyelid, even giving him a Slammy for it. This year because he did it to Jeff everyone is asking him if he feels bad about it, well he doesn’t.
Matt Hardy then enters and tells him he shouldn’t feel any regret for what he did because in the same situation he would have done the same thing.
Punk says that would be difficult because he’s never won Money in the Bank, or a Heavyweight Championship…twice. He then tells Matt they are nothing alike and walks out.
Match 5
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge
Vs.
Jeff Hardy
Vs.
C.M Punk (c)
Jeff starts the match by going after both men, taking them both down effectively and scoring a near fall under a minute into the match.
From there control of the match continually swung between the three men, with each ones intention clearly being to eliminate one opponent to the outside then wear down and pin the one remaining in the ring.
Another BREAKING NEWS ticker passed along the screen during this one, this time explaining that Vince had sold Raw to Donald Trump and next weeks show would be live and commercial free.
Back in the ring Edge locked a Sharpshooter on C.M Punk, only for Jeff to then lock a Sleeper on Edge. From here Jeff seemed to maintain the upper hand, hitting some pretty unique offence that was able to take out both men at once.
This came to an end when he went to the top rope, intending to hit Punk with a Swanton, only for Edge to push him off.
Edge hit Jeff with a brutal Spear after Punk managed to jump clean over him at a moments notice, but couldn’t make a cover and capitalise. Seconds later Edge threw Punk from the top rope to the outside, where he landed hard on the steel steps.
Jeff looked like he might have it won with a Twist of Fate/Swanton Bomb combination but the resilient Punk managed to stop the count, before taking Jeff out of the equation and covering Edge himself to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
After the match Teddy Long appeared at the top of the ramp and told Punk he would defend his title at The Bash against Jeff Hardy.
C.M Punk wins by Pinfall and retains the World Heavyweight Championship.
Match 6
Tag Team Match
The Hart Dynasty (w/Natalya)
Vs.
Carlito & Primo
At The Bash Priceless have a chance to pick up the Unified Championships from Carlito and Primo, and as such they join the commentary team for this match.
During the match Cole asks DiBiase and Rhodes about the battle royal and they said that although they had the potential to win the match, their main purpose in that one is to make sure that certain other people (Triple H) don’t win.
In the ring both teams did a good job and it looked like Carlito might be just about to grab a win. However, Priceless slithered into the ring and attacked the Unified Champions, showing that this match was more to push the match at The Bash than give the 4 guys in the ring a chance to show what they can do.
Carlito & Primo win by Disqualification.
Segment 7
Another Big Announcement Planned
Backstage Santino Marella and Vince McMahon are sat side by side on a sofa.
Santino wanted to know if their jobs were safe and Vince told him that Trump would do whatever he wanted to. At that point Vince’s phone rings and he says that it’s Trump.
Vince is told to make a big announcement and that Trump wants a big fanfare next week for his arrival, red carpet etc.
Vince comes off the phone and says if there is one thing he can’t stand, it’s a billionaire with a big ego. Santino then makes some inappropriate comments and the two bicker a little while Santino tries his best to worm his way out of it.
Main Event Match
WWE Championship #1 Contender 10 Man Battle Royal
Entrants
1. Cody Rhodes
2. Ted DiBiase
3. Triple H
4. Kofi Kingston
5. Matt Hardy
6. M.V.P
7. William Regal
8. The Big Show
9. John Cena
10. The Miz
Order of Elimination
1. Matt Hardy eliminated by The Big Show.
2. M.V.P eliminated by The Big Show.
3. The Big Show eliminated by Everyone.
4. Kofi Kingston eliminated by Priceless.
5. William Regal eliminated by Priceless.
6. Ted DiBiase eliminated by John Cena.
7. Cody Rhodes eliminated by Triple H.
8. The Miz eliminated by Triple H and John Cena.
9. John Cena eliminated by Triple H.
Winner: Triple H
For some reason M.V.P appeared in a Manchester United shirt. There has been much speculation on why he had this on, with many American fans not getting what the shirt was and instead thinking it was something to do with AIG (as they sponsor United and the logo is very prominent across the front of the shirt.)
M.V.P is apparently a big fan of United and has been for a long while, although a few people (myself included) believe it to be a reference to the sale of C.Ronaldo to Real Madrid for a record breaking £80M. This effectively means he is the M.V.P and so that could well be what is very subtly being referred to here.
Before anyone had even been eliminated WWE Champion Randy Orton appeared at the top of the ramp and proceeded to watch the match from there.
Priceless immediately made a bee-line for Triple H, seemingly doing the job they had been told to do.
Show did the obligatory ‘giant knocking everyone down’ bit culminating in the elimination of Matt Hardy and M.V.P before everyone else teamed up to toss him over the top.
After both members of Priceless had been eliminated they jumped back in the ring and beat the hell out of Triple H who had just hit the Pedigree.
The Miz then appeared at ringside and it became apparent that he hadn’t actually been eliminated, but had been hiding at ringside since just before The Big Show got thrown over the top. His return was short lived and he ended up back on the outside seconds later.
A very good battle royal.
Triple H wins the battle royal and becomes the #1 Contender for the WWE Championship.
Segment 8
Trumps Big Announcement
Instantly following the match Donald Trump appeared on the titantron and congratulated Triple H on his win.
He said that to keep in line with his new and unprecedented way of doing things, he booked a ‘PPV Main Event’ for next week on Raw: Randy Orton Vs. Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship!
A very interesting episode of Raw.
The ECW Digest – 16/06/2009
Opening Match
Singles Match
David Hart Smith (w/ Natalya & Tyson Kidd)
Vs.
Christian
A slight fall from grace for Christian, going from the main event to opening the show. That being said, getting into a feud with The Hart Dynasty could develop very well and based on recent matches they all seem to work well together.
D.H looked really good in this match, his most impressive moment from a visual perspective coming when he hit a modified Urinagi on the ring apron (which was actually slightly botched and caused Christian to take a pretty severe bump to the side/elbow.)
The match itself was pretty good and set the pace of the show, with the fans getting solidly behind Christian.
Smith displayed his father’s trait of fantastic strength but still needed the help of Natalya and Kidd to pick up the win. Natalya distracted the referee while Kidd pulled Christian from the top turnbuckle and ultimately cost him the match.
After the bell The Hart Dynasty looked to inflict more punishment on Christian but Finlay ran in and made the save with a Shaleighle.
With Christian back to his feet the two stood side by side before Finlay turned and drilled him with the stick too, leaving him down and out in the ring while the crowd sat in stunned silence.
David Hart Smith wins by Pinfall.
Segment 1
An Eye For An Eye
Backstage reporter-by-day Gregory Helms asks Finlay to explain what just happened. The fighting Irishman explained that he’s been on the shelf for almost a month because he received an eye injury while trying to split up a fight between Christian and Tommy Dreamer.
He says where he comes from they have a little saying ‘An eye for an eye’, and that’s exactly what it’s going to be.
Match 2
Singles Match
Mark Henry (w/Tony Atlas)
Vs.
Evan Bourne
Just what everyone wanted to see, another Bourne/Henry match.
I like Bourne and to some extent I even like Henry, but in my opinion this didn’t work that well the first time they met and has become no more exciting a few bouts down the line.
Thankfully it didn’t last long and Henry finally got a deserved victory, squashing him with the Worlds Strongest Slam to pick up the 3 count.
After the match Henry picked up Bourne and paraded his lifeless body around the ring before hitting another Worlds Strongest Slam.
Mark Henry wins by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Helms meets Swagger
Backstage Swagger stands around waiting until Helms appears, straightening his tie and apologising for being late. Hmmm, wonder what he’s been upto…
He asks Swagger what he thinks about tonight’s match and the All American American says he thinks it’s ridiculous he has to earn an ECW Championship match by facing Dreamer tonight.
Swagger wrapped up the segment by saying he will win tonight and then take back his ECW Championship, presumably at The Bash.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Jack Swagger
Vs.
Tommy Dreamer
Swagger and Dreamer didn’t do too badly in this match but I’d have preferred to have this one open the card and have the Christian/Hart Dynasty bout with Finlay’s supposed turn at the end.
Dreamer is well past his prime. Although it’s nice to see him still giving his all to the business and brand that he’s loved his whole professional career, I think there are guys who would benefit a lot more from being in his position than he is.
Dreamer lost this one to a roll-up after coming up short from a top rope assault. More of the same at The Bash by the look of it…
After the match Finlay hit the ring as he had after Christian’s match. He ran Swagger out of the ring then hit Dreamer, before Christian came down to get revenge.
Christian had the upper hand until Swagger re-entered the ring and attacked him. Finlay got to his feet and hit Swagger too, leaving all 3 men down as the show went off the air.
Jack Swagger wins by Pinfall.
The Superstars Recap - 18/06/2009
Opening Match
Singles Match
Santino Marella
Vs.
Chavo Guerrero
Before the match Santino told Chavo he is sorry his Aunt Vickie went ‘Wee Wee Wee, all the way home’ and said he will beat him down tonight the same way his sister did at Extreme Rules.
The crowd love Santino now, which is a big transition from how much he was hated and despised just a few months ago. I think it’s a good direction for him as the ‘obnoxious foreigner’ gimmick was getting a bit tired and although the transsexual one isn’t much better it seems to be getting him over more.
The match was more comedy than anything else, Santino playing a lot of it for laughs which eventually cost him the match. He decided to try a Frog Splash of his own, deciding the top rope was too high and jumping from the second rope, getting nothing but Chavo’s boot and losing the match as a result.
Chavo Guerrero wins by Pinfall.
Match 2
Singles Match
Zack Ryder
Vs.
Mike Williams
I thought there was something missing on ECW and it turns out it was the obligatory ‘squash the jobber’ match. Instead we get this treat on Superstars with a guy named Mike Williams.
It turns out there are a lot of Mike Williams’ in the world, quite a few of whom have gone into various sports. I couldn’t find any information on this particular Mike Williams but I don’t think it matters too much as I doubt he’ll last long.
Surprisingly (the wrestler) Mike Williams actually managed to get some offence in, hitting a dropkick, locking on a sleeper and landing a discus punch before Ryder finished him off with the Zack Attack.
I’m glad his finisher now has a name, it means I don’t have to try and describe it any more.
Zack Ryder wins by Pinfall.
Match 3
Divas Special Referee Match
Eve Torres
Vs.
Layla
Special Referee: Maria
Maria is on official duty once again, wearing ever more un-official like attire.
This is another rivalry that hasn’t been anything special thus far, but this match wasn’t too bad actually.
Both Diva’s showed they were more than capable and given a few more warm up feuds could be ready for the Womens Championship sooner rather than later.
Eve won the match fairly with an amazing Handspring Backflip Splash but both women should be very proud of this performance which has opened my (and hopefully a lot of other peoples) eyes to how good they actually are.
After the match Layla looked upset but after some coaxing from Maria the two competitors shook hands and buried the hatchet.
Eve Torres wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
6 Man Tag Team Match
Jack Swagger & The Hart Dynasty (w/Natalya)
Vs.
Christian, Carlito & Primo
Carlito and Primo are in a very strange position at the minute. They seem to be feuding with both Priceless and The Hart Dynasty simultaneously, without actually building a half decent rivalry with either.
Meanwhile Christian seems to be feuding with Swagger, Dreamer, Finlay and The Hart Foundation, getting involved with a different combination of them each and every week.
This match was passable but followed the usual pattern of one man being beaten down for a large period of time (Primo) only to make a hot tag and have his partner enter and swing momentum in their favour.
Thins broke down (as they usually do) at the end of the match and after Christian, Smith, Swagger and Primo had been taken out of the equation Carlito hit a Backstabber on Tyson Kidd to grab a win for the good guys.
Not a bad show overall but not a patch on last week’s Superstars.
Christian, Carlito & Primo win by Pinfall.
The Smackdown Summary - 19/06/2009
Opening Segment
Jeff Hardy Interviewed
Josh Mathews (I apologise for spelling his name incorrectly up until this point) starts the show in the ring. He explains that Jeff is the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship and introduces him as his guest at this time.
After showing clips of the match from Extreme Rules and the Triple Threat on Raw, Jeff says he will beat Punk at the Bash. Josh then introduces the World Heavyweight Champion who gets roundly booed by the crowd.
Josh asks Punk how he feels about people saying he took advantage of Jeff and then stole a victory from him on Raw. Punk says the only thing he took advantage of was the contract that he earned and on Raw he didn’t steal anything, he defended the title fairly.
Punk says that in the ring there are no friends and bottom line is that victories are what count.
Jeff again says he is going to take the title at The Bash, before Josh does a kind of masked popularity contest, requesting the crowd cheer for both Superstars individually. As expected everyone cheered for Jeff while the general sound was that of boos when things moved on to Punk.
Match 1
Singles Match
Chris Jericho
Vs.
Jeff Hardy
A pretty fast paced match to kick off Smackdown, both men looking to pick up a little momentum just 9 days before ‘The Bash’.
Although Jericho doesn’t have a match scheduled right now, he will more than likely be facing Mysterio again to continue their long running feud.
The end of this match was rife with controversy as after Jericho had been thrown to the outside, one of three Rey Mysterio ‘fans’ jumped up on the barricade and hit him with a Huricanrana, sending him into the ring post.
The referee didn’t see it and Jericho consequently got counted out, handing Jeff the win.
After the bell Jericho began complaining to the referee. Jeff Hardy took advantage of the situation, hitting him with a Twist of Fate/Swanton combination while J.R and Todd Grisham agreed the fan had to be Rey Mysterio due to the athletic nature of his attack.
Jeff Hardy wins by Count Out.
Segment 2
The Truce is Broken
Backstage Eve and Layla are bickering once again. The two argue over a can of hairspray, with Maria attempting to keep the peace.
Dolph Ziggler then shows up and attempts to introduce himself, but the three girls stop him in his tracks and make fun of his name, calling him everything from Zack Diggler to Dick Ziggler. As he walks away they all appear to be getting on again.
Match 2
Singles Match
Dolph Ziggler
Vs.
The Great Khali (w/Runjin Singh)
Ziggler has a new entrance theme that focuses around ‘Perfection’. While I think it fits his character to a tee I really did prefer his old music, which seemed to be much catchier.
It certainly looks like they are going for the ‘New Mr. Perfect’ angle with him, even if they haven’t come out and said it.
I also have a new found respect for Khali. It isn’t often someone of his stature would be prepared to put over someone who had been pretty much a nobody until this point.
Ziggler another win here, again in a very unorthodox fashion. In a play right out of Eddie Guerrero’s book, Ziggler used Runjin Singh to distract the referee before grabbing a steel chair and throwing it at the Punjabi Playboy.
I think Khali was meant to catch the chair, but instead he swatted it away then picked it up while Ziggler fell on the floor lifeless. The referee turned around and instantly disqualified Khali, handing a second victory to Ziggler in as many weeks.
Dolph Ziggler wins by Disqualification.
Match 3
Divas Match
Melina
Vs.
Alicia Fox (w/Michelle McCool)
Alicia Fox got another chance to show off her skills here, although it wasn’t a very long one at all.
Fox got a few moves in and looked good, almost winning the match when she bent Melina double in a modified Full Nelson Camel Clutch. The Womens Champion managed to escape however and seconds later picked up the win with the cool Sunset Flip Powerbomb she’s been using as of late.
After the match Michelle McCool launched a brutal attack on Melina, kicking her in the head, dumping her out of the ring and finally crushing her head between the announce table and her knee.
McCool then grabbed a microphone and told Melina she was going to beat her at The Bash and become the first Diva to hold both of the female titles.
Melina wins by Pinfall.
Match 4
Singles Match
Edge
Vs.
John Morrison
Edge makes his way to the ring first and complains that he never got a 1 on 1 rematch that he is contractually obliged to have.
He then goes on to insult Morrison, saying they aren’t even close to being in the same league. Morrison’s entrance music cuts him off and The Friday Night Delight makes his way to the ring.
Upon entering Edge continues his verbal assault, saying Morrison is another person that wants to be him, before comparing him to Siegfried and Roy.
Morrison says that Edge used to be different and entertaining, but now he just fast forwards through his segments.
Morrison playfully mocks Edge’s Canadian heritage, calls his ex-wife a fat pig and says he’ll give him something to complain about, leading to the start of this match.
Edge takes control early while the commentary team discuss the similarities between Morrison and Edge at the start of his WWE career.
Morrison attempts to mount some offence on a few different occasions but each time Edge comes back with something bigger and more punishing than before to regain the advantage.
Morrison finally made the break through with a devastating knee to the head, then an overhead kick to the temple while Edge was on the top rope.
Edge again seized control by dodging a Flying Chuck Kick and locking in a Sharpshooter but Morrison was able to get to the ropes to break the hold.
After a back and forth which saw both men land a signature manoeuvre, Morrison went for Starship Pain but failed to land it and was hit with a Spear moments later to end this brilliant match.
Definite match of the year candidate.
Edge wins by Pinfall.
Match 5
Six Man Tag Team Match
The Worlds Greatest Tag Team & Ricky Ortiz
Vs.
R-Truth & Cryme Tyme
I’ll admit I skimmed through this match as it looked instantly dull.
From what I saw Ortiz looked pretty good and it wasn’t until I saw him squaring off against Shad that I realised how damn big he is! He’s practically a giant to begin with and then he’s got like 3ft of hair sat on top of that.
Things broke down and R-Truth picked up the pinfall over Shelton Benjamin with a Corkskrew Spinning Elbow…seriously.
R-Truth & Cryme Tyme win by Pinfall.
Segment 3
A Championship Match at a Price
Before the match Rey talked about getting jumped by Jericho last month and getting his revenge tonight. He said it felt good but it wasn’t over and it wouldn’t be until he got his Intercontinental Championship back.
Jericho then made his way out onto the ramp and says Mysterio had his contractual rematch on Raw and he doesn’t get another shot at the belt.
Mysterio says that if Jericho wasn’t so obsessed with removing his mask, he wouldn’t have lost the title in the first place. I fail to see his point as surely if Rey didn’t wear a mask in the first place it wouldn’t be an issue, if something he chooses to wear costs him the match then that is surely his own fault.
Jericho said something about Mysterio being addicted to his mask (the camera cut away and it sounded a lot like his voice had been dubbed over, so perhaps he said something they had to edit out later) and after some more back and forth he offered Mysterio a re-match at a price.
Jericho will put up his title belt if Mysterio puts up his mask. If Rey wins, Jericho hands him the title, but if Jericho wins Rey has to unmask in front of everyone.
Mysterio accepts and the match everyone expected for The Bash is on.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Rey Mysterio
Vs.
C.M Punk
Is anyone out there actually expecting Jericho NOT to get involved in this match? Nah, didn’t think so. He joined J.R and Grisham at the announce table after his verbal altercation with Mysterio.
This was another pretty good match although I skipped through sections of it in order to catch up with the Rundowns.
Towards the end of the match Rey ended up on the outside. Jericho took advantage, exacting revenge for earlier in the night by throwing him into the ring post. Rey managed to beat the count but Punk hit the GTS as soon as he got back in the ring and grabbed the victory.
After the match Jeff sprinted down to the ring and attempted to get the referee to restart the match, seemingly annoyed at Punk for ‘stealing’ another victory. Punk shrugged his shoulders and left the ring with his title belt, while Hardy paced around as the show went off the air.
Finally, we’re caught up to date after the scheduled maintenance and my vacation. Thanks everyone for sticking with us throughout and we should have the latest edition of the Rundown out very very soon!
C.M Punk wins by Pinfall.
