    The Superstars Recap

    Match 1

    Singles Match
    JTG
    Vs.
    Caylen Croft (w/Trent Barretta)

‘What a week it has been here in the WWE’ – This has to be the most over-used term in wrestling history.

They pretty much say it every single week, even if the most exciting thing to happen was actually a segment involving Santino and a random guest host, and once again it’s the phrase to kick off Superstars tonight, delivered eloquently by Todd Grisham.

I’m guessing you can tell how interested I am in this match, given that I’m talking about over-used phrases.

Here’s another over-used phrase; Two guys get underused on Superstars.

Good match, well wrestled, but without substance and therefore a bit dull.

JTG grabbed the win with the Mugshot, then pulled some kids out of the crowd to celebrate with him.

He’s fast becoming a novelty and I hope he gets something serious soon, because I actually don’t hate the guy.

    JTG wins by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Luke Gallows (w/Serena)
    Vs.
    Chris Masters

This seems like a bit of a step up for Chris Masters.

He’s been wrestling other guys on about the same level as him (4th show fodder) for a few weeks now, but Luke Gallows is arguably one of the bigger names on Smackdown due to his association with Punk and the S.E.S, and a win here could signal an impending push for the Masterpiece.

I really like Masters. I preferred him as a heel, and could have seen him taking, or at least challenging for, the WWE Championship during his first ‘bigger’ run in the company.

But since he’s returned, the guy has been criminally underused and is probably quite close to the top of the pile when it comes to the most likely to get the ‘future endeavours’ treatment.

Matt Striker talked briefly in this match about what happened with Husky Harris on NXT, but it sounded like he was either lost for words, or heavily edited, and I’m favouring the latter as what he said didn’t really make a whole lot of sense.

Gallows picked up the win with the ’12 Steps’ after some good distraction work from Serena.

As with the first bout, this was well wrestled and interesting to watch, but suffered from it’s lack of substance.

I guess that’s always going to be the problem with Superstars, as it’s a ‘don’t have to watch’ show in terms of keeping up with the big storylines.

If you just like watching wrestling, and enjoy watching numerous clips of the other weekly shows, you’d probably love this show.

    Luke Gallows wins by Pinfall.

    Match 3

    Divas Match
    Jillian
    Vs.
    Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella)

Before the match Jillian talked about the whole world having World Cup Fever and sang some ‘Oles’ until The Bellas Interrupted her.

I wonder how long they’ll drag out the ‘Jillian sings badly until her opponents music hits’ thing, she’s been doing it for at least 2 years now.

Apologies to all the Divas fans out there (all 4 or 5 of you) but I whizzed through this one.

The main story here is that The Bellas tried ‘the old switch-a-roo’ but got caught out by the referee, only to then pull it off a few minutes later and grab the win with a roll up.

    Brie Bella wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    R-Truth
    Vs.
    William Regal

Strange choice of opponent for R-Truth tonight, although I’m always happy to see William Regal.

I wish he still had those brass knuckles in his trunks, I’d like nothing more than to see R-Truth get clocked with ‘The Power of the Punch’ as he set up for the Lie Detector.

Regal and Truth’s styles didn’t really gel, at least in terms of the high-pace, high-flying stuff from Truth.

Shortly into the bout R-Truth landed awkwardly on his knee, giving Regal a target to wear down, which he did for pretty much the rest of the match.

That was until Truth inevitably battled back JUST long enough to hit a huge DDT and the Lie Detector to grab the 3.

The Lie Detector looks more and more ridiculous every single time I see it, there’s barely any contact at all.

Probably the poorest match of the night (I’m not classing the Divas stuff there) but Regal made it watchable, despite the outcome being glaringly obvious from the opening bell.

    R-Truth wins by Pinfall.
