    The Superstars Recap

    Match 1

    Tag Team Match
    M.V.P & Chris Masters (w/Percy Watson)
    Vs.
    The Dudebusters

I’m in a ranty mood tonight guys, so prepare yourself for probably the longest, tangent-filled Superstars Recap on record.

M.V.P seems to have his fingers in a lot of pies at the minute.

NXT, Superstars and occasional appearances on Smackdown leads me to believe creative are putting a lot of stock in him, but the way they are ACTUALLY using him makes me think otherwise.

M.V.P hasn’t really had a successful run since turning face, at least not to the level he reached during his initial heel phase, and although the crowd seem to love him, I think if he’s going to take it to the next level he needs to be the hated, cocky figure he once was.

But I don’t see it happening as long as he’s selling t-shirts and getting cheap pops (just look at Cena.)

As for the other competitors in this match, I’d put all three of them in the ‘totally underused’ category.

With a tag division screaming out for good teams, Croft and Barretta would be a very useful addition, pepping things up from the usual Team A Vs. Team B scenario that we’ve seen for the past year or more.

I want a Edge & Christian Vs. The Hardys Vs. The Dudleys scenario again, but again I doubt it’ll happen, as The Dudebusters are too busy being booked weakly against Chris Masters, who also would be better served in a 1 on 1 rivalry.

Anyway, they all looked good here, but the match just seemed to be lacking in some way or another.

M.V.P scored the victory with the Play of the Day in a back and forth finish that looked like going one way, then the other.

M.V.P & Chris Masters win by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    JTG
    Vs.
    Chavo Guerrero

Here are two more underused guys that would be better served with something with a little more substance.

The way the WWE is structured at the minute, with two brands that *should* be completely separate of each other, has led to a lack of talent at the top of the card.

When both shows featured the same Superstars back in the early 00′s the complaint was that the same people were getting the spotlight and other guys weren’t getting the chances they needed, which was true to a point as the company had just bought out WCW and had more guys on the books than they knew what to do with.

The problem now is that as the roster has thinned out, the same guys are getting the spotlight on each brand, with no way to freshen it up as half the roster is on a different brand.

So week in/week out the shows are filled with the same guys doing the same things, which has inadvertently damaged the mid card too, as the main eventers need more of Raw/Smackdown because they can’t take the main event of both to build a storyline.

Annnnnnd… that brings me back to my original point, guys like Chavo and JTG get bumped to Superstars where they put on good matches (like this one) but with no substance at all.

I don’t have enough time to rant on about how I’d fix it, but one way would be to turn Superstars into it’s own little show like ECW, but don’t brand it up as something it isn’t.

The three letters ECW  mean an awful lot in the wrestling world, so fans got annoyed when the tame, McMahonised version of the brand didn’t live up to the reputation of the original.

Had ECW been branded WCW, it could have been a very different story.

Ok, I’ll stop now, but you get the idea.

Chavo scored the win here with a Frog Splash, which is nothing more than he deserved in my opinion.

    Chavo Guerrero wins by Pinfall.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    Yoshi Tatsu
    Vs.
    Primo

I’ve already ranted far too much tonight, and I’ve kinda burnt myself out, so I’ll keep this one short and sweet.

Tatsu has become boring already, at least for me.

Yeah he’s very entertaining in the ring, but he needs developing soon, lest he face the ‘future endeavours’ treatment.

All of Primo’s heat got killed when Carlito got axed, because alone he doesn’t really make a credible heel.

I gave the creative team credit for not just turning him face immediately after Carlito left, but I’m starting to think it might have been a bad move.

If I were in charge I’d pair him up with a bigger, badder heel as soon as I could, or stick him with Chavo to make a decent cruiserweight tag team.

Primo won this one by pulling Yoshi off the top rope right down onto his head, apparently demonstrating his new ‘attitude’.

    Primo wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Tag Team Match
    The Hart Dynasty (w/Natalya)
    Vs.
    The Usos (w/Tamina)

From Pay Per View to the 4th show in one fell swoop.

Perhaps this is the WWE’s way of pushing Superstars as a credible show, and to be fair to them the match has been given a huge chunk of the card to impress with, but with a completely dead crowd the four guys were always fighting an uphill battle.

I really like the Usos, I just hope they get used properly somewhere down the line.

As much as I also like The Hart Dynasty, I think they need to drop the titles fairly soon to keep credibility up for their rivals.

In fact I’d love to see a rivalry where the titles bounce back and forth at will, it doesn’t happen as much as it used to do.

This match very nearly ended by count-out, after The Usos caught Tyson Kidd’s Cannonball attempt and hurled him into the barricades.

Kidd made it back into the ring and after some more entertaining tag action from both teams DH Smith began to lock on the Sharp Shooter, only to be distracted by Tamina.

However, despite Tamina’s best efforts to aid her team (put to an end by Natalya) The Hart Dynasty scored a big victory with a Hart Attack/Dropkick that took out both Usos.

Very strong main event, but I’d rather have seen it happen on Raw.

The Hart Dynasty win by Pinfall.
