The Superstars Recap
Match 1
Singles Match
Vladimir Kozlov
Vs.
Santino Marella
As is customary with pre-PPV Superstars episodes, I’m going to rush through this as quickly as is possible, while still bringing you news on the interesting bits (if there is such a thing on Superstars.)
So the premise here is that Santino wants to form a team with Kozlov, but the Moscow Mauler isn’t interested.
Before the match Santino grabbed a microphone and said that he’d noticed a change in Kozlov since he started perusing him as his (tag team) partner.
He said he realised Kozlov was under ‘the dirty British thumb’ of William Regal, but there’s no reason Ivan Drago and Rocky Balboa can’t be friends, and become the most dominant tag team ‘of all a-times’.
Santino said that they’d make a good team because they are both highly trained in Martial Arts, then hyped up the crowd with some ‘comedy gold’, which I won’t go into as I don’t think I’ll be able to do it justice.
Finally Santino gave Kozlov a choice, either they fight tonight, or they leave the ring together and become one of the greatest tag teams ever formed, or something like that.
Kozlov looked completely disinterested through the whole segment, but initially seemed won over by Santino’s big speech.
However, when Santino laid a hand on him Kozlov snapped and struck with some clinch Headbutts, before winning with the worst Iron Curtain I’ve ever seen (and there have been some pretty horrific ones.)
Vladimir Kozlov wins by Pinfall.
Match 2
Singles Match
Goldust
Vs.
William Regal
Depending on how this is worked, it could be a real ‘diamond in the rough’ between two very talented veterans.
I watched the majority of this one fully, as it really was a ‘good old fashioned wrasslin’ match, as JR would have said.
Regal spent most of the bout focusing on Goldust’s arm, and even busted him open to the point that the ‘Ringside Doctor’ had to step in and patch him up, to comply with the PG-13 rubbish.
Ever the showman Regal used this break in the match to play to the crowd, mocking The Bizarre One.
Following treatment from the medic Goldust seemed to grab his second wind, eventually picking up the win with a Twisting Supplex.
Goldust wins by Pinfall.
Match 3
Singles Match
Chris Masters
Vs.
Cody Rhodes
After watching the previous match in it’s entirety I spooled through some of this one to save time.
I don’t think either guy really deserves to be on Superstars, and from what I saw here they proved that.
Cody Rhodes weakened up the shoulder of Masters making it possible for him to escape the Masterlock a few times, before hitting Cross-Rhodes for the win.
Cody Rhodes wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Dolph Ziggler
Vs.
Christian
For the second week in a row Dolph Ziggler main events Superstars, and this time it’s against much better opposition (no offence to Chris Masters.)
This is the final of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament I’d have most liked to have seen, but with the storyline developing into a rivalry between Kofi and Drew McIntyre I can understand why it wasn’t.
Ziggler and Christian put on the match I fully expected them to, a bout that could easily have made it onto Smackdown and possibly even a PPV.
Unfortunately Ziggler couldn’t make it two wins in a row, as Christian struck with a KillSwitch to grab a win, in a match that won’t have done any harm to either guys reputation.
Christian wins by Pinfall.
