    Superstars Recap Temp Banner15/10/2009

Hello and welcome the all new Superstars Recap.

After getting some pretty good feedback we’ve stuck with the new Weekly Rundown layout for now.

We’d still love to know what you think about the changes so please feel free to get in touch via the Contact Us page, or any of the usual email addresses.

    On with the show!

    Quick Links

Opening Match: Mark Henry Vs. Chris Masters

    Segment 1: Ask The Divas

Match 2: Vladimir Kozlov Vs. Tommy Dreamer

Main Event: John Morrison Vs. C.M Punk

    The Superstars Recap

    Opening Match

    Team Raw Qualification Match
    Mark Henry
    Vs.
    Chris Masters

The final spot on team Raw will go to one of these men.

So far Team Raw is a mixture of main event and mid-card talent, which is nice to see.

I fully expected the creative team to throw the top 7 guys on Raw and the top 7 guys on Smackdown into the match and let them battle it out.

As it is some of the younger or less ‘over’ talent gets to show what they are capable of and maybe even push themselves higher up the card depending on what happens at Bragging Rights.

That being said, it could just be highlighting how weak the main event picture is at the moment.

I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that Cena’s absence from Team Raw might have more of an impact than people are expecting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t lose the title match with Orton then show up on Team Smackdown to make a triumphant return to the Blue brand.

Henry and Masters attempted to out-do each other in terms of strength, then after realising he couldn’t match up with the Worlds Strongest Man, Masters instead decided to wear down Henry’s knee.

After working on Henry’s leg for what seemed like an age Masters got caught in a rather laboured Worlds Strongest Slam, but it was enough to grab the victory and make Mark Henry the final member of Team Raw.

Mark Henry wins a place on Team Raw by Pinfall.

    Segment 1

    Ask The Divas

I think for the first time since this segment began someone actually asked a wrestling based question, wanting to know who the divas would choose to be in their corner in a mixed tag team match.

Strangely enough Michelle McCool went for Kane, while the other Diva’s went for more obvious choices like Rey Mysterio (The Bellas) and William Regal (Layla).

The second question was about gym music and the best answer came from Kelly Kelly who said Limp Bizkit (purely the best answer because I like them too).

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Vladimir Kozlov (w/Ezekiel Jackson)
    Vs.
    Tommy Dreamer

I honestly can’t think of many matches I’d like to see less than this one.

Despite what I’ve read elsewhere, Kozlov doesn’t seem to have improved much to me.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him inside the Octagon, where I have no doubt his MMA style and huge jaw would put him in good stead, but for me at least it just doesn’t seem to have carried over into the WWE very well.

Remember Steve Blackman? Nah I didn’t think so. And if you do it’s probably as one half of ‘Head-Cheese’ or for being one of the hundreds of 24/7 Hardcore Champions.

As for Dreamer, I respect his past and the so called ‘heart’ that is always talked about when he gets in the ring on ECW, but I think he’s probably getting close to being ‘past it’.

It didn’t help that early on in this match took a bump on the announce table which seemed to do some serious damage to his elbow, which clearly swelled up like a baseball.

However, he did already have a pad over the elbow, so it’s possible this was an existing injury that was worked on during the match, and work on it Kozlov did.

Dreamer was able to battle back but just looking at the paths these two guys have been on recently, the result was never really in much doubt.

Kozlov picked up the win with the Iron Curtain after a distraction from Ezekiel Jackson, who hit his modified Eurinagi after the bell for good measure.

    Vladimir Kozlov wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    John Morrison
    Vs.
    C.M Punk

The Miz decided this would be a good opportunity to build the rivalry between himself and Morrison, joining Todd Grisham on commentary, replacing ‘good ol’ JR’.

Looks like The Informant was right about him requesting time off in the Weekly Informer.

The last time Morrison and Punk met I hailed it as a Match of the Year contender, which really put Morrison on the map by picking up a victory over the (at the time) World Heavyweight Champion.

While I don’t think this meeting was AS good as the last one, it was still a very good main event and The Miz surprised me by actually doing a solid job on commentary.

The conclusion of the match was both clever and disappointing at the same time.

As Morrison had Punk set up for the Starship Pain, The Miz slid into the ring and deliberately stomped on Punk, gifting him the win and costing his future opponent in one fell swoop.

After the match Morrison took his frustration out on Punk, hitting him with a Flying Chuck as the show wrapped up.

    C.M Punk wins by Disqualification.
