The Superstars Recap
Opening Match
Mixed Tag Team Match
Primo & Gail Kim
Vs.
Chavo Guerrero & Jillian Hall
If I’m honest I totally switched off for this match.
I did notice that Primo and Chavo work really well together, and if this could be worked into some sort of meaningful feud I wouldn’t mind seeing them face off again some time.
Jillian and Gail felt like they were just thrown in as an afterthought, although Gail played her part at the conclusion of the match, hitting Chavo with her finisher before Primo rolled him up for the 1..2..3.
Primo & Gail Kim win by Pinfall.
Match 2
Singles Match
Carlito
Vs.
Chris Masters (w/ Eve Torres)
Much like Pat Patterson we’ve gone from one Colon to another on Superstars tonight.
Apologies to anyone offended by that joke, but I had to do something to spice up this god-awful show.
This match didn’t last too long and saw Masters get the better of Carlito with a Masterlock, after the former U.S Champion spat an apple in his face at the start of the match.
Eve was, as per usual, completely redundant.
Chris Masters wins by TKO.
Segment 1
Ask The Divas
It looks like last week was merely a reprise for me regarding Ask the Divas, as it’s back tonight.
This week the divas were asked what they find unattractive in a man and what they would do if they got with a guy their parents didn’t like.
Great stuff.
Match 3
Tag Team Match
Jimmy Wang Yang & Slam Master J
Vs.
Mike Knox & Charlie Haas
The term ‘bad to worse’ instantly springs to mind here.
This entire match is a prime example of the ‘Nothing to do=Tag Team’ mentality that the WWE Creative team seem to have at the minute.
Knox and Haas are completely unused at the minute = tag team. Same story for Jesse and Yang.
It’s sad really because Haas and Wang Yang in particular have real, proven talent but for some reason or another have found themselves languishing on the D show.
Wang Yang picked up the win over Charlie Haas with a Moonsault, grabbing a rare win for his team.
Jimmy Wang Yang & Slam Master J win by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Christian
Vs.
William Regal (w/Ezekiel Jackson)
ECW get the main event tonight and have made the most of it by putting forward their champ.
Following the ECW Homecoming match this week, Ezekiel Jackson will now challenge for Christian’s title at The Royal Rumble, but tonight Jackson’s ‘mentor’ Regal will look to do some wearing down on his behalf.
Regal and Christian have shown what they are capable of numerous times in the past and as good as the battle in the ring was, the talking points from this bout all came from outside of the ropes.
Around half way through the match Jackson attempted to get involved, only to be Dropkicked from the apron by Christian and ejected from ringside by the official in charge.
After the commercials Christian took a tumble from the top rope all the way to the mats on the outside, banging his head pretty hard on the apron on the way down.
The champ barely beat the count and re-entered the ring, but the damage had been done and Christian spent the majority of the match taking stiff Regal trademarked shots or locked in submissions.
Regal twice avoided the KillSwitch and looked like he might be closing in on a victory with The Regal Stretch, but Christian battled out and finally landed his finisher to earn a victory almost out of nothing.
I’m quite surprised we didn’t see Kozlov at some point during this match, but then again I don’t particularly care.
Great performance from both men, and a very worthy main event.
Christian wins by Pinfall.
