    The Superstars Recap - 10th September 2009

    Superstars Recap Temp Banner10/09/2009

Hello and welcome the all new Superstars Recap.

After getting some pretty good feedback we’ve stuck with the new Weekly Rundown layout for now.

We’d still love to know what you think about the changes so please feel free to get in touch via the Contact Us page, or any of the usual email addresses.

(By the way, the banners are purely temporary. We kind of rushed this idea through at the last minute and didn’t have time to get anything a bit better made.)

    On with the show!

    Quick Links

Opening Match: Kane Vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

Match 2: Sheamus Vs. Yoshi Tatsu

Match 3: Katie Lea Burchill Vs. Nikki Bella

Match 4: Dolph Ziggler Vs. Slam Master J

Main Event: Kofi Kingston & Primo Vs. Swagger & The Miz

    The Superstars Recap

    Opening Match

    Singles Match
    Kane
    Vs.
    Jimmy Wang Yang

Jimmy Wang Yang’s still around? Poor guy.

I feel a bit bad for the guy because truth be told he’s actually pretty good in the ring, the problem is he’s been saddled with one of the poorest gimmicks in the WWE today.

I don’t doubt that Asian Rednecks exist, but it’s a crappy gimmick especially for someone who used to be ‘Akio’, one of Tajiri’s henchmen with a kind of Japanese Yakuza type gimmick.

Kane roundly beat Yang both during and after the match, pulling out a Singapore cane after he’d picked up the win, delivering a taste of what we can expect on Sunday at Breaking Point

    Kane wins by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Sheamus
    Vs.
    Yoshi Tatsu

Both these guys are looking like being successful products of ECW’s New Talent Initiative and it’s nice to see them getting some airtime against each other rather than just jobbing to someone higher up in an attempt to try and get recognised (which usually doesn’t work, unless your name is Rory Fargo and you expose yourself to a capacity crowd).

Sheamus controlled the first half of the match with impressive power moves and a couple of near falls.

Tatsu eventually battled back into the match after landing a series of precision kicks and one of the loudest chops I’ve ever heard, but his revival was stopped with a brutal Pump Kick followed by the Irish Curse which gave the Celtic Warrior the victory.

This match did far more for Sheamus than it did for Tatsu, but the fans still seemed completely behind him so not too much damage done.

    Sheamus wins by Pinfall.

    Match 3

    Divas Singles Match
    Katie Lea Burchill
    Vs.
    Nikki Bella (w/Brie Bella)

I’ll go out on a limb and say this isn’t going to be the most amazing match we’ll see this year, but you never know it might be fun.

I’ve not seen much of Katie Lea in one on one matches, but based on this performance she works pretty well as the dominant heel.

Oh and you can’t hear her speaking that much which is another plus.

Nikki Bella fought back a few times but none of it felt very believable due to the clear talent and physical divide between the two.

The most disappointing thing about this match was undoubtedly the outcome, as the Bella Twins pulled their favourite ’switch-a-roo’ trick and Brie Bella scored the pinfall with a Cross Body, despite the extent of Nikki’s offence upto that point stretching to a Schoolgirl roll-up.

I’d like to see Katie Lea in an actual match against someone like Melina or Mickey James, where she can display her talents without losing to a gimmicky finish.

    Nikki Bella wins by Pinfall.

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    Dolph Ziggler
    Vs.
    Slam Master J

At the start of the match J.R and Todd Grisham discussed Slam Master J’s undefeated run which now spans to… just the one victory.

J.R posed the question ‘Can anyone stop Slam Master J?’, I’d hope that save for a John Morrison helping hand, Ziggler will.

Early in the match Ziggler knocked SMJ from the top rope and all the way to the outside, where he seemed to tweak his knee as he landed.

From there Ziggler began to dominate the match, landing move after move in a very deliberate, very aggressive style.

After Ziggler locked on a prolonged Sleeper (which to his credit he managed to make interesting rather than just the dull old ’slow down a match’ type Sleeper) SLJ began to mount a come back, but just like in the Sheamus/Tatsu match it didn’t last long.

Ziggler picked up the win moments later with what appears to be a new (although very similar to his previous) finisher. Rather than it being a Jumping Russian Legsweep, it is now more of a Reverse Jumping Bulldog. It looks very similar but I have to agree it seems to have more impact.

Imagine an RKO but from behind and you’re just about there.

    Dolph Ziggler wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Tag Team Match
    Kofi Kingston & Primo
    Vs.
    Jack Swagger & The Miz

Primo has a new theme tune you’ll be glad to know.

It’s alright, but not a patch on that of Kofi Kingston or Jack Swagger.

I’m talking about entrance music, can you tell how interested I am in this match?

Don’t get me wrong, we at WWEBlog.co.uk like Kofi Kingston. We even put him in our banner alongside some of the top guys around at the minute, but this match just screams ‘dull’.

If the WWE want to make Superstars a big deal, why not make this a 4-Way United States Championship match?

After all, it’s not being defended at Breaking point (or if it is, it hasn’t been mentioned up to this point) so why not put it on the line here?

This may well change in the future, but at the minute Primo doesn’t interest me at all.

When he was tagging with Carlito there was a reason to be interested, they were like the poor man’s Hardy Boys and some of the matches and segments you could see the legitimate chemistry you almost only ever get with family members.

But now… he’s just a good to average cruiserweight with very little character.

Kofi and The Miz made this match pretty interesting, so it was fitting that they were the ones eventually involved in the climax of the match.

Primo temporarily took out Swagger with a diving attack through the ropes, although just as Kingston looked like closing in on a win over The Miz, Swagger jumped up on the apron to cause the distraction.

The Miz was then able to hit the ‘Skull Crushing Finale’ (ridiculous name, even for The Miz) and pick up the victory over the U.S Champ.

The Miz & Jack Swagger win by Pinfall.
