The Superstars Recap
Opening Match
Divas Championship Tournament Match
Jillian Hall
Vs.
Gail Kim
After making her entrance Jillian talks about how she wants to become a 2-time Divas Champion and she thinks she has a good chance of winning tonight, prompting her to shriek out a rendition of ‘I got a feelin’ by the Black Eyed Peas.
I don’t know how much life there is left in this singing gimmick, but the WWE Creative team seem intent on squeezing every last drop out of it.
Personally I’m surprised a gimmick that was essentially a dig at Brooke Hogan’s singing career went on longer than a few weeks, never mind over a year.
Gail Kim hasn’t really impressed me since returning to the WWE. Her first time around she was an edgy heel, then she went and did amazing things in TNA (so I’m told), but now she just seems to be filling gaps.
Despite winning this match and advancing in the tournament, she didn’t do anything particularly special, although King and Cole seemed impressed with the agility she showed in grabbing the win
Gail Kim wins by Pinfall and advances in the Divas Championship Tournament.
Match 2
Singles Match
Ted DiBiase
Vs.
Chris Masters (w/ Eve Torres)
Masters débuted some new music (I think this is the first time he’s used it anyway) in this match.
It’s very generic but seems to move him away from the ‘Masterpiece’ persona he used to have.
Masters locked on a grounded Masterlock in the early going, but DiBiase was able to get to the ropes, as he did moments later when his opponent went for the more familiar standing variation.
DiBiase demonstrated an Orton-like mean streak to take control of this bout but despite some impressive offence he couldn’t get the job done, picking up a handful of near falls before Masters regained the upper hand.
Just as it looked like Masters was on the road to a victory, DiBiase showed his resilience, avoiding two Masterlock attempts before hitting Dream Street to claim a win in a very evenly fought contest.
Ted DiBiase wins by Pinfall.
Match 3
Singles Match
Yoshi Tatsu (w/ Goldust)
Vs.
Caylen Croft (w/Trent Barretta)
I don’t get why this wasn’t a tag team match.
The commentary team kept talking about how Croft displayed his singles ability, but if the plan is to push him and Barretta as a tag team then why not keep it that way for now.
I have to admit I wasn’t too into this match at the beginning, but it didn’t turn out to be too bad.
Croft certainly has singles talent, but his winning streak came to an unceremonious end as Tatsu caught him with a quick kick to grab the win.
Goldust and Barretta were pretty much obsolete in this whole thing, another baffling decision as Barretta getting involved would have furthered the teams heel image.
Yoshi Tatsu wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Tag Team Match
Finlay
Vs.
Mike Knox
So there’s some great news and some not so great news.
The great news is that it looks like I might have got my wish! No sign of ‘Ask The Divas’ tonight and I couldn’t be happier.
However, bringing me crashing back down to earth; Mike Knox Vs. Finlay.
Two of the dullest competitors around face off in this ‘huge’ main event, as it has been described throughout the night.
As I’m sure everyone would much prefer Smackdown results that are actually relevant, I skipped to the end of this one, stopping just in time to see Finlay cheat his way to victory with a Shaleighle shot behind the officials back.
Brilliantly repetitive stuff.
Finlay wins by Pinfall.
