The Superstars Recap
Opening Match
Singles Match
Santino Marella
Vs.
Chavo Guerrero
After last weeks quite frankly pitiful Superstars, I can’t say as I’ve been looking forward to this week’s Recap.
The thought of Santino Vs. Chavo didn’t exactly thrill me either, although as both of these guys are a ‘joke’ at the minute the match was quite good for novelty value, and did actually feature some fairly decent wrestling.
Santino started the match strongly but Chavo dominated the middle of the match, largely with a grounded Sleeper that very nearly won him the match.
Santino battled out and landed ‘The Cobra’, but Chavo regained control.
However as Chavo set him up for the Frog Splash, Santino pulled off a quick roll up and grabbed the three, extending Chavo’s period of ‘bad luck’.
A better start than last week.
Santino Marella wins by Pinfall.
Segment 1
Ask The Divas
“How do I break up with my girlfriend and go out with her best friend?”
Probably the most ‘edgy’ question asked to date.
Most of the Diva’s said it was a horrible thing to do etc, but Rosa Mendes came up with the idea of dating both and Katie Lea Burchill used some good old fashioned British common sense by answering ‘Break up with your girlfriend…and go out with her best friend’.
The second question was about nerves and not nearly as interesting.
Match 2
Singles Match
Jack Swagger
Vs.
Primo
Great, a re-match. Because last week’s dull encounter wasn’t enough for us, evidently.
As Primo made his way to the ring Michael Cole explained how these two Superstars have ‘developed quite the rivalry’.
Have they?
I must have missed when that happened.
Swagger picked up the win with a Gutwrench Powerbomb to extend his undefeated streak, and that’s really all I can say about this match.
Just as a side note, it’s all well and good going undefeated for months on end, but when 90% of those victories come on Superstars, I’m not sure it’s something to be overly proud of.
Jack Swagger wins by Pinfall.
Match 3
Singles Match
Paul Burchill (w/Katie Lea)
Vs.
Tyler Reks
I’m still not sure how much faith the WWE has in Tyler Reks.
He joined ECW at the same time as Yoshi Tatsu, Abraham Washington and around the same time as Zack Ryder, yet seems to have had a lot less TV time and no storylines or rivalries at all.
Making me wonder even more is the fact that this was practically a squash match, as Burchill controlled almost everything and picked up the win with a Dangerbuster.
There’s a slim chance things got cut short here, as Reks got busted wide open by a headbutt and bled like the proverbial stuffed pig for the last couple of minutes of the bout.
Perhaps he was meant to mount some more offence before eventually laying down, but I guess we’ll never know.
Paul Burchill wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Chris Jericho
Vs.
Finlay
One half of the Unified Tag Team Champions, the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion, #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship and 2008 Superstar of the Year takes on … Finlay.
I’d have honestly rather seen Jericho take on a jobber and destroy them than this.
The main two angles being pushed by the commentary team during this one were (obviously) Jericho’s title shot against Taker and Big Show, and Finlay’s apparent new rivalry with Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre destroyed Finlay last week on Smackdown and that seemed to play a part in this match, as Finlay favoured his hip/leg throughout and despite coming close a number of times, lost the match to a CodeBreaker.
I’m very surprised that no one got involved in this match, but I think it was better for being allowed to run it’s course fairly, something that we don’t see so much in matches like these, where there isn’t a current rivalry being disputed.
Chris Jericho wins by Pinfall.
