    The Smackdown Summary

    Opening Segment

    Jericho on DX

Jericho makes his way to the ring to start the show, and immediately begins insulting the crowd.

He dives straight into Jeri-Show’s upcoming title defence against DX at TLC, in a TLC.

I’m not sure why this match was given the show-piece stipulation. I always associate TLC with high flying, edge of the seat action, something which only Jericho is really able to provide in this bout.

HBK used to be able to pull out all the stops in Ladder matches, but I doubt he has that much in him now, same goes for Triple H to a lesser extent, and it’s probably best not to mention The Big Show, who would probably struggle even if his knee wasn’t shot to pieces.

Jericho talked about how at TLC it won’t be about who can shift the most merchandise, how he has more TLC experience than they do (2 matches to 0 matches) and how DX have never held tag gold.

He then moved on to his ‘unfair treatment’ at the hands of Teddy Long, namely being overlooked as a participant in tonight’s World Heavyweight Championship #1 contendership match.

Teddy emerges from the back and Jericho tells him to his face that he should give the ‘face of Smackdown’ what he wants.

Teddy says he will give him what he wants, then after Jericho assumes he will be in the #1 contender match, throws in the curve ball that actually he’ll be facing Taker tonight in a non-title match.

    Rematch Alert.

    Match 1

    Tag Team Match
    Cryme Tyme
    Vs.
    The Hart Dynasty (w/Natalya)

Speaking of rematches, here we go again.

I feel like crying I honestly do.

I had prior warning from DanG that these guys were going to face each other AGAIN, but I refused to believe it until now.

How many more times do they think we can watch this exact match (or any of it’s variants for that matter) before enough is enough?

In a protest I expect to draw zero results, I spooled through this match.

It turns out The Hart Dynasty picked up the win when D.H Smith took advantage of the match breaking down to get the win over Shad.

Hmmm, because we’ve not seen that happen for a while have we?

The most annoying thing about this is it’s actually making me not care about The Hart Dynasty, despite them being one of my favourite tag teams at the minute (and will probably only be replaced when the writers get their acts together and put Zack Ryder and Dolph Ziggler together.)

The Hart Dynasty win by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    Morrison Visits Teddy

Backstage John Morrison enters Teddy Long’s office and Teddy says he’s glad to see him.

Morrison says he’d like a 1 on 1 shot against any one of The Miz’s Survivor Series team, which Long begins to consider before Vickie Guerrero interrupts.

She chastises him for not consulting her about the #1 Contender match later tonight, then suggests her boyfriend Escobar gets a title shot against Morrison tonight.

Teddy says that he won’t make that match because he doesn’t deserve it, but after some encouragement and a threat to call Mr. McMahon, changes his mind and grants him one (and only one) shot at the gold.

He then warns Vickie that he won’t be bending the rules for her partner each and every week like she used to.

    Segment 3

    Punk has a Friend

C.M Punk is next to the ring to cut a promo, but this time seems to have brought a pal with him.

The other guy looks anything but Straight Edge, but I guess we’ll see if looks are deceiving.

Punk talks about his failed intervention last week, then says that he’s not the only one who knows that the vices people have are harmful.

He talks about the warning labels on all these products, then says he is on a similar crusade which he will continue to do as long as there are people out there who need help.

He introduces his mystery guest as Luke Gallows, someone who he has been helping for a while.

It turns out it’s Festus, only in a new guise.

Punk explains away Festus’ former brain-dead character as a consequence of drug abuse, but claims that he’s set him free.

The Straight Edge Superstar moves on to talk about a new ‘dangerous’ addictive new drug that will hit the streets on December 1.

He says that it is more harmful than prescription pills, alcohol and chain smoking, then reveals that it is actually the brand new Jeff Hardy DVD.

As Punk tears into him as he always used to, the crowd burst into a huge Hardy chant, although I fear Matt is the best they are going to get.

Punk says the only part of the DVD they need watch is the last chapter, when he ended Jeff’s career in a Cage Match.

As predicted Matt Hardy comes out from the back and heads to the ring with a purpose.

Once there he calls Punk a cult leader, then defends his brother and says that Punk knows nothing about him.

Punk says that if Jeff had listened and done as he’d said, he would have more of a life than dragging himself out of the bottom of a bottle.

Looks like we’re going to have a match between these two up next.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Matt Hardy
    Vs.
    C.M Punk (w/ Luke Gallows)

I predicted that when Jeff left the WWE, Matt would go on to feud with Punk, and although it might be happening a little later than I expected, I’m happy to be right with my predictions.

I’ll also go out on a limb here and say that Gallows will probably play a significant role in the outcome of this match.

So Jesse and Festus have gone from two hick, farm hand types to a bit-part rapper and a former addict enforcer? It’s probably a good career move for both of them, as they didn’t really sparkle as a tag team.

Looks like I was right again. Gallows jumped up on the apron and blatantly hung Hardy up on the top rope, causing the distraction.

He then jumped in the ring and destroyed Matt after the bell (yeah that’s right, he doesn’t fight to the bell anymore), before holding him while Punk delivered some more damage.

Festus, sorry Gallows, then locked on a a ridiculous looking submission hold which I’d best describe as a Reverse Full-Nelson. He then picked him up, still in the submission hold, and slammed him down.

Gallows looks like he’s been hitting the gym pretty hard, as he seems to be in much better shape than he ever was as the ‘corn fed colossus’, although that could have been creative’s decision to keep him padded to fit his character, similar to what they did to Trevor Murdoch.

    Matt Hardy wins by Disqualification.

    Segment 4

    Mickie James Interviewed

After a repeat of the quite frankly embarrassing ‘Piggy James’ promo from last week, Josh Mathews speaks to Mickie James.

He asks her how she is feeling after the constant bullying of late and she says that it doesn’t matter what juvenile pranks they pull, because she isn’t going anywhere.

She says she belongs on Smackdown and worked very hard to get there, so there is no way she is going to leave.

    Match 3

World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contendership Match
    Batista
    Vs.
    Kane

I don’t suspect this will be anything sparkling, and I’m 99% sure Batista will be going on to face Taker at TLC, so forgive me if I don’t pay too much attention to detail.

From what I picked up from various glances, Batista dominated a lot of the match and worked on The Big Red Machine’s knee, until Kane began to fight back at the end.

After landing a HUGE Big Boot and grabbing a 2 count, Kane headed to the top rope in an attempt to finish things, but Batista dodged the attack and landed a Spear to pick up a 2 count of his own.

Things went back and forth some more until Kane got the better of things and began setting up for a Chokeslam. Batista backed away and hung his opponent up on the turnbuckle, then took out the bum knee and began to set up for the Batsita Bomb.

Kane reversed it and landed a Chokeslam, but the cover was too close to the ropes and The Animal was able to stop the count, rolling to the outside afterwards to recover.

Kane whipped Batista into the timekeepers area, but this only gave The Animal the chance to strike his knee with a chair, with the referee’s view completely shielded.

He then slid back inside and left Kane to be counted out for the loss.

A poor end to what was actually a good match, I suppose it was a clever finish though.

Batista wins by Count Out and becomes the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

    Match 4

    Intercontinental Championship Match
    Eric Escobar (w/ Vickie Guerrero)
    Vs.
    John Morrison (c)

Vickie introduced Escobar (clumsily) then accompanied him to ringside for this title match.

If Escobar picks up the gold here (which I wouldn’t doubt could happen for a second) then it looks like our trusty WWEBlog Informant might have made his first mistake in predicting he could be on his way out of the company.

I’ll be interested to see Escobar in a proper 1 on 1 match against decent competition here, as most of the matches I’ve seen him in so far have either been squashes or team battles.

Morrison got the better start here, knocking Escobar to the outside and hitting him with a Moonsault from the apron almost instantly, however Vickie quickly provided a distraction which completely turned the momentum of the match.

I took my eyes off this one for a second and when I re-joined the action Morrison was firmly in control. Moments later he hit the Flying Chuck, followed by the Starship Pain to retain the gold, finish Escobar’s title career before it started and keep The Informant’s integrity in tact.

After the match Vickie threw a fit and slapped Escobar, screeching something about giving him opportunities week after week  and being done with him.

It looks like this match could actually have gone some way to confirming The Informant’s predictions, kudos to you mystery man.

John Morrison retains the Intercontinental Championship by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    Home Truths

Backstage the situation between Vickie and Escobar is still blazing on.

She tells him that he makes her sick.

He responds by telling her that she makes him sick, then goes on a vicious tirade, saying he has to wash his hands after he touches her, wants to peel off his skin every time he hugs her and has to disinfect his mouth every time he kisses her.

He finishes by saying it’s not been worth it, then tells her they are through.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    Chris Jericho
    Vs.
    The Undertaker

Last time these two guys met (for the first time) it was a pretty good match.

I do have to wonder how much more they have got to give though, especially on a Smackdown broadcast and even more so when this match is being banded around as a possibility for WrestleMania XXVI.

The new #1 Contender for Taker’s World Heavyweight Title; Batista joined the commentary team for this match.

I wonder if he’ll bother speaking this time?

No, is in fact the quick answer to this one. Once again, despite putting the headset on, The Animal failed to utter a single word, and instead used his position to distract The Deadman at every possible opportunity, allowing Jericho to take the upper hand.

Both men scored near falls throughout the match, which went back and forth when allowed to flow without interruptions.

Towards the end of the match Jericho hit a successful Lionsault, but spent a little too long celebrating and allowed Taker to rise up as he so often does and land a Chokeslam.

Just as The Deadman began to set up the Tombstone, Batista left the announce position and shot into the ring, chop blocking his TLC opponent then sliding to the outside to grab a chair while Jericho landed a CodeBreaker in the ring.

Batista then proceeded to take The Undertaker apart with the chair, leaving him down and out in the centre of the ring as the show went off the air.

    The Undertaker wins by Disqualification.
