    The Smackdown Summary

    Match 1

    No Disqualification Match
    Rey Mysterio
    Vs.
    Kane

Straight into the action this week on Smackdown with a (sort of) SummerSlam re-match, although with a N0-DQ stipulation added and the title removed from the equation.

Mysterio is still nursing an ‘injured’ arm after his bout with Alberto Del Rio last week, leading the commentators to play down his chances, but as we all know he’s all heart and as he requested this match there’s every chance he might pull out an unlikely win.

Kane is first to go for the weaponry, snatching up a Kendo Stick, but Mysterio takes it from him and delivers a few shots before tasting a Big Boot that scored a near-fall for The Big Red Monster.

Kane came close a few more times, but Mysterio also had his fair share of offence and hit the 619 after wearing down his opponent’s legs with a Steel Chair.

However, Kane caught Mysterio as he went for the Seated Senton, Chokeslamming him onto the very same chair for the 1..2..3.

After the match Kane left and shortly afterwards Alberto Del Rio entered and made his way to the ring, where Mysterio was still receiving treatment on his arm.

Rio feigned compassion, asking the doctor if Mysterio was going to be O.K, then said he looked like a ‘dying dog’ decided he would be the one to put him down.

Rio then attacked and once again hyper-extended Rey’s arm before clamping a chair around it and hurling him arm-first into the ring post.

    Kane wins by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    C.M Punk (w/The S.E.S)
    Vs.
    JTG

Given that this is a match between former World Heavyweight Champion and leader of the Straight Edge Society and JTG, someone who struggles to get a win most weeks on Superstars, I doubt the result is in any doubt.

Which gives me the chance to bring you a little bit more news about Serena of the S.E.S.

On Monday I reported that ‘The Textual Tipster’, our latest informer, had reported the following :

C.M Punk’s Straight Edge Society has reduced in number by one, as ‘The Anti-Diva’ Serena Deeb has been released by the WWE for failing to ‘stay in character’ outside of the Smackdown ring.

The recent storyline about how she ‘fell off the wagon’ was allegedly based on real-life events, and it looks as though similar events have led to her eventual axing, just a week after picking up her first televised pinfall.

While this news seems to have been confirmed by several news sites, there has still been no official word from the WWE as of yet and many are speculating that it could be a ‘work’.

    -The Textual Tipster

and although by the time this article goes live (due to my impromptu Bank Holiday break) it’ll probably be old news, the original informer, The WWEBlog Informant, delivered a further update on the situation a couple of days ago:

    Hello everyone,

Just a little update on the situation regarding Serena Deeb.

She has indeed been released by WWE, the reason they are holding back on announcing it is that the 27th August edition of Smackdown (aka this one) was pre-recorded due to the China trip, and the anti-Diva had already been filmed accompanying both Punk and Gallows to two separate matches.

I personally think it’s a shame she got the chop, because she was a talented girl and a real looker when she had some hair on her head.

I’d also like to wish her well in all her future endeavours and let her know there’s always a job going for her in my office.

    -The Informant

As predicted this was nothing more than a squash match. Punk could have won it by pinfall after a GTS, but wanted to demonstrate that he could also apply a pretty mean Submission (as part of the whole ‘can’t lift Big Show’ thing) and choked JTG out with the Anaconda Vise.

After the match he demanded that the S.E.S join him in the ring and get on their knees, which they duly did.

He tells them that he just set an example for them and wants them to spread his message of purity in the same way, starting with The Big Show, who Luke Gallows will apparently face later tonight.

He wraps up with what appears to be the Society’s latest motto ‘Be Better, or be Gone’.

    C.M Punk wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 1

    Tiny Espionage

Backstage Teddy Long is congratulating Rosa Mendes on her latest fitness regime.

After she leaves Teddy Long’s plant pot begins to move closer to him, until it’s revealed that Hornswoggle is once again in the shrubbery.

Teddy asks him who he’s been spying on and he mimes out Lay-Cool (with the help of some shades), then after numerous failed attempts to convey what they have been plotting, Hornswoggle and Teddy decide they can come up with another way for the little guy to help the G.M.

    Segment 2

    Dashing Cody Rhodes Grooming Tips

Tonight’s Grooming Tip is on shaving.

A shaven face is apparently necessary to acquire a perfect jawline, but shaving your entire body is apparently the only way to achieve complete masculinity, which the opposite sex apparently find very appealing.

    Match 3

    Intercontinental Championship Match
    Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero)
    Vs.
    Kofi Kingston

In order to keep things fresh and progress the storyline further, tonight’s match has a special stipulation added to it.

If Dolph Ziggler is disqualified tonight (as he has been in previous bouts) he WILL NOT retain the title, and it WILL transfer to Kofi Kingston.

Kingston’s jaw is still dislocated apparently, after the big stomp at the end of last week’s match, I wonder if that’ll play a part in the outcome of this bout.

Kofi has apparently called Vickie Guerrero a Wilde-beast at some point in this feud, I must have missed it, but Matt Striker isn’t happy about it and declares that it was an unnecessary and unprovoked verbal attack, happily ignoring the fact that she’s cost Kofi the gold umpteen times already.

About half way through the match Kingston grabbed the 1..2..3 with an S.O.S, but the referee noticed at the last second that Ziggler grabbed the bottom rope, and ordered that the match continue.

Moments later Vickie Guerrero slapped Kofi Kingston behind the referee’s back, prompting Ziggler to scream and shout, telling her not to screw things up for him.

Towards the end of the match the action spilled to the outside, where Kingston looked to have the advantage until the pair both went for Clotheslines and began racing for the ring.

Both men made it to the apron by 9, but Vickie Guerrero rather cleverly dragged Dolph back to the outside, allowing Kingston to win the match by Count Out, but allowed Ziggler to retain the gold.

I’m not sure how many more ways they’ll find to book Ziggler as a weak champion, but I’m sure they’ll have come up with one by next week.

Kofi Kingston wins by Count Out, therefore Dolph Ziggler retains the Intercontinental Championship.

    Segment 3

    Jack Swagger Sr. Invitational Shoot-Out

It’s just what everyone has been waiting for!

    Or not.

The basis for this contest is simple, first person to take the other one down 5 times wins. If that’s Swagger he gets to host the pointless V.I.P Lounge next week, if it’s M.V.P he gets to throw a party at Swagger’s expense.

Swagger dons his amateur headgear and practices a couple of shoots, before the referee starts this ‘match’ properly.

The bell rings and Swagger quickly gains the first take-down. 1-0 Swagger.

M.V.P picks Swagger’s ankle, but he reverses it into a second takedown, and then a third shortly afterwards. 3-0 Swagger.

After failing to do anything worthwhile M.V.P loses his cool and slaps Swagger, leading to the D.Q.

Swagger wins and gets the V.I.P Lounge next week, as if anyone cares.

After the ‘match’ Swagger slid to the outside and floored M.V.P before punishing him with the Ankle Lock.

    Segment 4

    Flawless Photoshoot

Backstage Lay-Cool are taking part in a Photoshoot.

Once they’ve finished they decide to poke some more childish fun towards Mickie James before discussing their ‘plan’ for her in private.

Looks like we’re going to have to wait for RAW 900 to find out what this plan is.

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    Alberto Del Rio
    Vs.
    Carlos Sanchez

Local Talent this high up the card? Seriously?

On a separate note, Alberto Del Rio’s introduction is ridiculous, especially for someone who is essentially taking on a jobber.

First he appears in a classic car (a different one every week by the sounds of it, as he has a collection worth over $10m) then as his own personal ring announcer introduces him, he walks down the ramp with gold fireworks falling behind him.

His entrance lasted almost as long as this match did.

Rio picked up the win with the Cross Armbreaker, but I can’t help but think the guy deserves better than this, he’s actually a very good wrestler and he doesn’t need to be put over by beating nobodies.

Alberto Del Rio wins by Submission.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    The Big Show (w/Kelly Kelly)
    Vs.
Luke Gallows (w/Serena & Joseph Mercury)

How fitting that Serena’s last appearance is ringside in a main event bout.

Sadly this isn’t really the ‘main event’, in terms of the thing people are tuning in to see at the climax of the show.

That’d be the upcoming Undertaker promo.

This match was even shorter than the Del Rio squash match I think.

Kelly Kelly took Serena out at ringside, and Show knocked out Luke Gallows to get the 1..2..3.

Backstage C.M Punk looked on, clearly angry at what he had just seen.

The Big Show wins by Pinfall.

    Closing Segment

    The Undertakers Vengeance

After a long, flame engulfed entrance to the ring, The Undertaker snatched up a microphone and waited for silence from the crowd.

After a very theatrical cough Taker said that although he may look like it, he’s not dead yet and he’s still very much The Deadman and the ring is still his yard.

He says that he has to make it clear that he will never pardon the guilty, which brings things nicely to his brother; Kane.

He says his brother is guilty of a treacherous betrayal that he will pay dearly for.

Taker says that Kane has a diseased soul, which has made him believe his own lies and made him think he can fill The Deadman’s boots and carry ‘The Holy Grail’, the World Heavyweight Championship.

Kane’s pyro’s strike and the World Champion appears at the top of the ramp.

He tells Taker that he is the only one spinning lies, claiming that he can hear weakness when his brother talks.

He says Taker isn’t a shadow of the man he used to be and he’ll have no trouble crushing him just like he did at the climax of SummerSlam.

Kane finishes by saying he is now the dominant brother and has nothing at all left to prove.

Taker tells him that there is a good reason why he always walked in The Deadman’s shadow, and said that when he described himself as ‘The Devil’s favourite Demon’ last week, he overlooked the fact that it was The Undertaker who built The Devil’s house brick by fiery brick, and when he comes knocking, The Devil still calls him ‘sir’.

He tells Kane that he isn’t worthy of holding the World Heavyweight Championship and furthermore he isn’t worthy of being his brother, then warns him that he may have taught Kane everything The Big Red Machine knows about being evil, but he didn’t teach him everything HE knows.

Kane says the next time they meet it’ll end the same way it did at SummerSlam, with Taker sprawled at his feet, and he vows on the grave of their mother that he will NEVER Rest in Peace.
