Hello and welcome the this edition of the Smackdown Summary.
Due to some good feedback we’ve decided to stick with the new layout for the foreseeable future.
We’d still love to know what you think about the changes so please feel free to get in touch via the Contact Us page, or any of the usual email addresses.
(By the way, the banners are purely temporary. We kind of rushed this idea through at the last minute and didn’t have time to get anything a bit better made.)

The Smackdown Summary
Opening Segment
Punk Starts The Show
C.M Punk makes his way to the ring to kick off Smackdown this week.
He instantly began making assumptions about the crowd, saying they kill hundreds of brain cells every day with their abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs and as such this has made their addled brains forget all the achievements he has under his belt.
Punk then lists his numerous achievements; 3-time Straight Edge World Heavyweight Champion, only person to win Money in the Bank Ladder matches back to back and so on.
He says that his crowning achievement has to be using his Anaconda Vise to make The Undertaker tap out, and he did all these things without drugs, alcohol or any help from the fans.
He then demands that someone in a position of authority shows him the respect he deserves by coming forward and naming a challenger for his title now he’s beaten the all-powerful Undertaker.
Spiritual music begins to play around the arena and a selection of Druids bring down a casket which they park at ringside.
Punk slides to the outside, grabs a chair and then prepares to strike when the casket lid opens.
When it doesn’t, Punk begins thrashing it with the chair before finally flipping it open to reveal…
Teddy Long, bound and gagged.
Boy I didn’t see that coming…oh no wait, I did.
As Long thrashes about in the box Punk grabs the microphone and begins talking to him before lifting him out of the casket, rolling him into the ring and standing him up.
Once un-gagged Long announces that effective immediately The Undertaker’s Hell’s Gate submission is now 100% legal, Punk will defend the title against The Deadman at Hell in a Cell, in a Hell in a Cell and the two will square off in a match tonight on Smackdown.
Match 1
Tag Team Match
John Morrison & Finlay
Vs.
Mike Knox & Dolph Ziggler
No elaborate psycho-babble from Knox at the start of this match, however J.R and Todd Grisham made numerous references to his previous medical based segments, so it doesn’t look like they are dropping the ‘evil professor’ gimmick just yet.
Knox and Ziggler effectively worked as a team for the best part of the match by isolating Finlay, preventing Morrison from having any impact on the match at all.
When Morrison finally did get the tag he quickened the pace and began to take control, although it was miscommunication between Ziggler and Knox that eventually cost them the match.
Knox went for the big Cross-Body but Morrison ducked, leaving him to take out his own partner. Then, while the referee was distracted Finlay struck with the Shaleighle and left Knox down in the perfect position for a Starship Pain which picked up the win.
John Morrison & Finlay win by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Cryme Tyme & Slam Master J
Backstage Jesse, or Slam Master J as he’s now known, approached Cryme Tyme and Eve.
Shad told him that if he wanted to be down with them he is going to have to prove himself.
JTG handed him a tin of spray paint and SMJ declared that he’d ‘got this’ before disappearing into the General Managers office.
Match 2
Singles Match
Slam Master J
Vs.
Kane
Before Kane had even made his entrance J.R began to question what SMJ had defaced in the General Office that made Teddy Long so irate, although there was no sign of an altercation between the two (at least on Sky Sports.)
Kane won the match in a matter of minutes, hitting a Chokeslam to add yet another pinfall to his impressive run.
Kane wins by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Vince Passes The Buck
Backstage C.M Punk catches up with Mr. McMahon and asks him if he’s just going to let Teddy Long do what he already has done tonight.
Vince tells him that he, Teddy and the referee should have considered the consequences of THEIR conspiracy.
Punk looked confused and seemed to be about to claim the conspiracy had something to do with Vince when he cut him off and re-iterated that it was THEIR conspiracy.
The Chairman then wished Punk good luck and made his way out to the ring.
Segment 4
Vince’s Huge Announcement
As Mr. McMahon made his way to the ring Todd Grisham said that he’d heard the boss had a huge announcement about the future of Smackdown tonight.
Once in the ring Vince thanked the crowd for their huge welcome and said it made him feel at home.
He then proceeded to insult the Oklahoma crowd before inviting everyone to a very special episode of Smackdown next week which will look back at the last 10 years, paying tribute to those who paved the way like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
He announced that DX and Cena are both going to be on the show next week, before introducing someone he personally signed, reminds him a lot of himself and is sure to be a future World Heavyweight Champion; Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre took the microphone and began to talk about no one matching his potential while Vince made an exit.
He said that seeing as Teddy Long hasn’t had his eye on the ball recently, it’s taken the Chairman of the Board to sign some real talent in himself.
While the crowd began chanting ‘USA’ Drew said there will be a huge party later tonight in his honour, before R-Truth made his way through the crowd and attacked Smackdown’s newest competitor.
Match 3
Singles Match
The Big Show (w/Chris Jericho)
Vs.
Batista
The match began with The Big Show completely in control, throwing Batista around and out-muscling him at every turn.
Jericho paced around infront of the announce table and played cheerleader for his tag partner, at one point asking J.R if he saw how Show had thrown Batista around like a rag doll, to which J.R quite flatly replied that he had indeed seen it.
Just before a commercials Batista managed to turn the tables slightly, avoiding a Big Boot which hung the 7fter up on the top rope, then shoulder tackling him to the outside, however when the action returned The Big Show was back in control.
A quick replay showed that it was outside interference from Jericho that had led to this, as he jumped up on the apron and distracted Batista just long enough for Show to recover and change the momentum of the match.
After some very lengthy submission holds The Big Show went for the ill-fated second rope Elbow Drop which missed as it usually does.
Batista took control with a Spear then, in a move that was completely out of character, locked on an Ankle Lock.
Just as Show was about to tap Jericho interjected himself and caused the disqualification.
The Animal knocked Jericho down then applied an Ankle Lock to him too before eventually relinquishing the hold, leaving both men to limp up the ramp.
Looks like Batista could have a new move in his arsenal.
Batista wins by Disqualification.
Segment 5
Vince and Teddy
Backstage Mr. McMahon walked into Teddy Long’s office where the G.M was sitting, looking more than a little dishevelled.
Vince warned him that he shouldn’t have screwed with Taker then asked where his picture was.
Teddy said that he’d found it but it wasn’t quite ready, claiming it wasn’t in the right frame.
Vince told him that he didn’t care about the frame and demanded to see it, although was less than happy when he finally did.
It turns out (who would have guessed it) that it was this picture that had been defaced by Slam Master J earlier on.
McMahon blasted Long for this and left, giving the G.M yet another thing to worry about.
Match 4
Singles Match
JTG (w/ Shad & Eve)
Vs.
David Hart Smith (w/Tyson Kidd & Natalya)
The Cryme Tyme Vs. Hart Foundation rivalry continues to rumble on here tonight in this match.
This match never really got going before it came to a conclusion, which is a shame as I’d have liked to see what D.H Smith could have done on his own.
Natalya prevented JTG from getting the win by putting Smith’s foot on the rope, then got attacked by Eve for her troubles.
As Natalya escaped into the ring and distracted the referee Tyson Kidd hit JTG with a big kick, allowing Smith to pick up the win with a Back Supplex.
David Hart Smith wins by Pinfall.
Segment 6
Batista Interviewed
Backstage Josh Mathews explains that Batista intends on challenging Show and Jericho for the tag titles at Hell in a Cell.
Josh asks Batista who his partner is going to be and after building up the tension for a while he revealed that it would be Rey Mysterio.
Has it been 30 days already? Damn, I was just getting used to the absence of ‘underdog victories’ on Smackdown.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
C.M Punk
Vs.
The Undertaker
The entrances for this match seemed to go on forever and at one point I honestly wondered if there would be any time left for a match once Taker had finally made his way to the squared circle.
Luckily there was and for the majority of it The Deadman was firmly in control.
Punk did eventually get some offence in by avoiding Old School then wearing Taker down on the top rope before hitting a Superplex which scored a 2 count.
Punk locked in a very impressive submission, using his legs to apply a kind of Sleeper hold, although it didn’t keep Taker down for long as The Deadman battled back to his feet and regained control.
After hitting the Snake Eyes/Big Boot combo Taker began calling for the Chokeslam but Punk was able to break the hold with a Kick to the head.
Taker then locked on the Hells Gate but Punk was able to get to the ropes.
The action then spilled to the outside as Punk tried to grab his title belt. Taker followed him and attempted to hit the Last Ride through the announce table, but Punk was able to escape and slid back into the ring to avoid being counted out, something Taker wasn’t able to do in time.
Punk grabbed his title belt and headed up the ramp, leaving The Undertaker in the ring to ponder just how he had lost the match.
C.M Punk wins by Count Out.
