    The Smackdown Summary

    Segment 1

    Straight Edge Setup

C.M Punk is first out from the back on this penultimate show leading up to Fatal 4 Way.

You might think that Punk’s main focus would be said PPV and the title match, and for a time it looked like it might be as he began by talking about how he would become the 4-Time Straight Edge Champion.

However, his focus quickly switched to The Undertaker, as he said that he’d love for The Phenom to witness his victory, before pointing out that he’s the only man to ever make him tap out.

Punk declares his innocence over the whole matter, but then says he’s glad it happened and wished that he was the one to see the flicker in his eye go out as he was beaten to the point of no return.

In a U-Turn from last week, where he offered Kane his assistance, he said that he’d be first in line to shake the hand of whoever was responsible, then said that the landscape of the WWE has been so much better since The Deadman’s departure.

The lights then dimmed and when they came back up a figure not dissimilar to Taker but at the same time blatantly not him, stood in the centre of the ring.

Punk cowered for a while, but then began to push the impostor around before finally revealing it to be Luke Gallows in disguise.

    Oooh, almost had me fooled!

Punk adorns Taker’s hat (looking like a member of some sort of dark Mariachi band) then removes and stamps on it.

Kane eventually emerges to break up this disrespectful act, but as he makes his way down the ramp Swagger jumps him and along with the Masked Straight Edge Member, they take The Big Red Machine apart.

Show and Mysterio eventually showed up to run the villains out of the ring, but then turned on Kane themselves.

Finally show knelt over the fallen monster and told him once and for all that he had nothing to do with Taker’s attack.

I’ve got a feeling the World Heavyweight Championship match at Fatal 4 Way isn’t going to run as smoothly as it looked like it might now.

    Match 1

    Tag Team Match
    M.V.P & Christian
    Vs.
    The Gatecrashers

You guessed it, Curt Hawkins and Vance Archer have made enough of an impact to earn a ‘contract extension’, and as M.V.P and Christian are the two guys who they jumped to do so, they get the first match.

Striker kept referring to them as ‘The Gatecrashers’, which I liked so I’ve gone with.

Apparently they still aren’t on permanent contracts, but made enough of an impact in their first 30 days to get an extension. Talk about dragging out a weak angle.

I didn’t like Vance Archer when he made his début in ECW, and I didn’t much care for Curt Hawkins when he used to tag with Zack Ryder, but I guess there’s time for them to win me around.

This match was decent and could be the start of a good feud.

Christian looked like scoring the win with the KillSwitch, but Archer jumped in and hit a big impact move, allowing Hawkins to score with the ‘Heat Seeking Elbow’ to get the 1..2..3.

After the match The Gatecrashers devastated M.V.P too and Hawkins hit a much more impressive Heat Seeking Elbow jumping over half way across the ring.

    The Gatecrashers win by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    Poor Rosa

Backstage Lay-Cool are walking and talking (jibbering) when they bump into Rosa Mendes.

She asks if she can join their ‘Flawless’ stable and they reject her pretty harshly, insulting her image and her win/loss record (She hasn’t won since ECW if they are to be believed).

They insult her sufficiently until she leaves, at which point they turn their attention to Kaval, telling him to look happier about their exploits.

    Segment 3

    Poor Dolph Ziggler

Backstage Vickie Guerrero is looking bored when Chavo approaches her and starts talking about how good it is for Los Guerreros to be back together.

She blanks him totally and instead focusses on Dolph Ziggler who enters wearing a tool belt and some tiny jean-shorts that she has apparently bought him.

She dismisses Chavo, telling him he has a match tonight, then asks Dolph to put up a new picture for her.

As Dolph clambers about on the sofa in his ridiculous getup Chris Masters enters and begins to ask her a question about a match, before seeing what is going on and swiftly making an exit.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    JTG
    Vs.
    Chavo Guerrero

JTG still gets a huge pop from the crowds when his music hits.

I thought he’d fade into obscurity when Cryme Tyme disbanded, but the crowd still seem interested in him and that bodes well for his chances of getting a decent storyline and push.

Obviously JTG won this match, as I can’t remember the last time Chavo had a singles decent win to his name.

If JTG plays his cards right he could find himself in the IC picture.

    JTG wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 4

    Kofi Kingston Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews asked Kofi Kingston about his 1 on 1 match at Fatal 4 Way against Drew McIntyre.

Oh at last we have another Smackdown match on the PPV card!

The card is pretty much mirroring itself so far, 1 World title FFW, 1 singles match for the US/IC title and so far a Divas FFW from Raw.

Will Smackdown fire back with a Lay-Cool Fatal 4 Way?

Anyway, Kofi said that whether the deck is stacked against him at FFW or not, he’ll put up a good fight.

He then moved onto Drew’s match tonight against Teddy Long, saying how bad of an idea it is.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    Drew McIntyre
    Vs.
    Teddy Long

Here it is, the match you’ve all been waiting for.

Teddy Long failed to show up the first time his music played, so McIntyre grabbed a microphone and kindly reminded him that he’d lose his job if he refused to compete.

Teddy eventually showed up, but dressed in a dapper grey suit rather than any gear suitable of competing.

McIntyre tells him that he isn’t bothered whether he’s in a suit or wrestling gear, he’s going to tear him apart, but beforehand he’s enlisted his own private security force to make sure Kofi Kingston and Matt Hardy don’t show up and ruin the party.

A selection of security guards surround the entrance area while Drew makes the referee check him for foreign objects.

McIntyre begs Long to hit him, backing him into a corner and asking him if he wants to be fired.

McIntyre then tells him that if he wants to save his job, he’ll have to get down on his knees, which he does.

He demands that Teddy call him The Chosen One, and after some prompting  he does so, before getting back to his feet.

Drew tells him that he hadn’t been told to get up and forces him to lay on his back in the centre of the ring.

Long does it and McIntyre covers him with his boot for the 3, but only after calling him pathetic.

Long goes to leave the ring with tears in his eyes, but McIntyre clamps his hand around his shoulder to stop him, then begins to set up for the Future Shock.

Both Kofi and Matt Hardy tried to make the save, but both were apprehended by the ‘private security’ and suffered a tremendous beating at the hands of Mr. McMahon’s Chosen One.

    Drew McIntyre wins by Pinfall.

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    Layla (w/ Michelle McCool)
    Vs.
    Kelly Kelly (w/Tiffany)

As nice as the Divas looked I whizzed through this match, and it was very much a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ kind of affair, with Kelly Kelly getting the drop over Layla.

No mention of a match at Fatal 4 Way so far.

    Kelly Kelly wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 4

    Jack Swagger Interviewed

I’m not sure what the question Josh Mathews asked, but Jack Swagger spent the whole segment telling a heart-warming anecdote about his childhood, dedicating his win on Sunday to his father and some shameless self promotion.

Pretty much a typical Swagger promo then.

    Match 5

    Singles Match
    Dolph Ziggler
    Vs.
    Chris Masters

Vickie Guerrero gave Ziggler another flattering introduction for this match, while the crowd booed the hell out of her.

I’ll make a bold prediction here.

If Masters loses this match, I expect we’ll see him getting the ‘future endeavours’ treatment within the next three months.

He’s stagnating and it’s kinda sad because he’s a talented big guy, and if they used him right he could be one for the World Title picture in a few years.

That said, if anyone had to beat him then I’m glad it was Ziggler.

As much as I hate the fact he’s been saddled with Vickie Guerrero, if it pushes him into the spotlight then I’m happy. Hopefully he’ll be more of an Edge success story and not a Escobar embarrassment.

Ziggler won what was essentially a battle of the submission moves by pinfall, opting to go with the Zig Zag when the Sleeper couldn’t get the job done.

    Dolph Ziggler wins by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
The Big Show & Rey Mysterio
    Vs.
    C.M Punk & Jack Swagger (w/The S.E.S)

Much like we saw on Raw, the four participants involved in Sunday’s World title match have been thrown into pairs for this last hurrah at getting people interested in buying.

Mysteri-Show (see what I did there? It’s only a matter of time before the creative team catch on and push them together) started the match strongly, but Mysterio fell into the trap that so many of his former opponents have succumbed to in the past; focusing on the mask rather the opponent.

As Mysterio tried to rip off Punk’s mask, Luke Gallows made an illegal interjection behind the referee’s back, swinging the match completely.

Swagger and Punk isolated Mysterio for the longest time until he finally tagged in Show, who began taking care of business.

However, Swagger avoided the Chokeslam and reversed it into a DDT, allowing him some time to recover.

Show tagged Rey back in and he immediately scored the 1..2..3, reversing the Gutwrench Powerbomb into a kind of reverse Kill-Switch.

As expected Kane’s pyros went off as soon as the match ended and The Big Red Machine began to dominate everyone at ringside, wrapping the show up with a Tombstone on Rey Mysterio.

He told the Fatal 4 Way participants that one of them was already in hell but didn’t even know it, and on Sunday it will be a ‘Fatal’ night for the guilty party.

An empty coffin then miraculously appeared at the top of the ramp and Kane saluted it with his brothers famous pose as the cameras stopped rolling.

The Big Show & Rey Mysterio win by Pinfall.
