    The Smackdown Summary

    Segment 1

    He’s Bacccck!

Remember a few weeks ago when we thought we’d seen the last of Drew McIntyre because he’d been deported back to Scotland?

Well it turns out the deportation rules in America must be pretty easy to get around, because he’s back in the ring to start Smackdown tonight.

However, before he can speak Teddy Long’s music plays and he hits the ring.

He asks Drew what he’s doing out here because the last he heard he was being deported.

Drew confirmed that all his citizenship issues had been resolved, but what hasn’t is the relationship between the two of them.

Drew tries his best to butter Teddy up, saying on his flight back home he realised that he had wronged the Smackdown G.M in so many different ways.

He apologises and Teddy calls him a liar, calling him out on the fact he no longer has Vince in his back pocket.

Teddy tells him that from now on he’s going to be on the same level playing field as everyone else on Smackdown and Drew agrees, saying that he’s personally nominating Teddy for the Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

Drew paints a picture where Teddy receives his Hall of Fame ring in his home town, while Drew main events Mania as the World Heavyweight Champ.

Teddy tells him that the only way he will be World Champion at WrestleMania, is if he wins the Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but the only way he’s going to make it into that match is if he gets down on his knees and begs for it.

Teddy rolls a clip of Drew making him beg on his knees, then tells him again what he has to do to get into that match.

After much consideration Drew does as he is told, saying Teddy is most handsome, debonair, high class, sharp dressed and intelligent and it is an honour to have him as his boss.

Long allows him to get up before dropping the bombshell that Drew still has a lot to do before he makes it into the Money in the Bank match, challenging him to beat Kofi Kingston if he wants to earn his place.

    Match 1

Smackdown Money in the Bank Qualification Match
    Chavo Guerrero
    Vs.
    Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero)
    Vs.
    M.V.P

Two completely underrated guys here in my opinion, and M.V.P.

Normally pretty much any match involving Chavo Guerrero I’d have to pick the other guy, but I can’t really look past M.V.P for this one, and here’s why.

As I mentioned a few seconds ago, both Dolph Ziggler and Chavo Guerrero have both been criminally underused over the past couple of years and I can’t see that changing here.

Secondly, as this match kicked off Drew and Chavo began working as a team with the goal of getting Ziggler into the Money in the Bank match, meaning in all likelihood their alliance would eventually implode leaving M.V.P to pick the scraps.

And Surprise surprise this is exactly what happened, kind of.

The whole way through the match Chavo’s only role was to make sure Ziggler got the 1..2..3, but after M.V.P hit Ziggler with a huge Superplex from the top Chavo glanced up at the briefcase above the ring, decided to go against orders and made a cover.

This led to a brawl between Ziggler and Chavo, allowing M.V.P to recover, hit a Ballin’/ Play of the Day combo and cover for the three.

However, just as the referee was about to bring his hand down for three Vickie pulled him out of the ring, allowing Ziggler to lock on the Sleeper and pick up the win by Submission!

Nice swerve, I really didn’t expect that to happen.

Here’s hoping Ziggler picks up the win at Money in the Bank too!

After all, who needs the Intercontinental Championship anyway?

    Dolph Ziggler wins by Submission.

    Segment 2

    The Honest Man

Yet another new promo for the WWE’s only honest man Alberto Del Rio.

I still haven’t seen him deliver a promo I’ve enjoyed.

You can tell he’s got great delivery, but these segments just really bore me.

Hopefully once he gets in the ring my opinion will change.

    Segment 3

    Rey Mysterio Interviewed Brutalised

Back in the medical room Josh Mathews speaks to Rey Mysterio and his doctors about Rey’s ankle.

The doctor says that something in his ankle has torn, but he’ll be off his feet for a while while it recovers.

Mathews begins to ask Rey if he thinks the injury will impede him defending the title but before he can answer Jack Swagger bursts in, grabs hold of his ankle and locks in the deadly submission hold once again, dragging him through the backstage area.

Swagger then picked him up by the legs and whipped him into what looked like a huge mattress disguised as wood, before re-applying the Anklelock and dragging him to the ringside area until The Big Show eventually appeared to make the save.

    Match 2

    Tag Team Match
    Christian & Matt Hardy
    Vs.
    The Gatecrashers

I’ve been waiting a long time for a Hardys/E&C hybrid tag team to surface, so I consider myself quite disappointed with what happened here.

After Hardy got knocked around for a while he went to give Christian the hot tag, only to get dumped over the top rope by his supposed partner, who then walked out.

Christian got some pretty decent heat from this, despite being one of Smackdown’s biggest fan favourites.

From there on The Gatecrashers were just one finishing combo away from a win, which Hawkins picked up with the Heat Seeking Elbow.

    The Gatecrashers win by Pinfall.

    Match 3

Money in the Bank Qualification Match
    Drew McIntyre
    Vs.
    Kofi Kingston

This was your standard Kofi/Drew match that we’ve seen a couple of times over the last month.

As usual it was a well wrestled bout that flipped both ways, although McIntyre seemed to have the better of it for longer periods.

Towards the end of the match Kofi landed the Boom Drop, then hit a backwards Trouble in Paradise after missing it the first time of asking, but Drew somehow managed to kick out and hit a modified Reverse Alabama Slam for a near fall of his own.

After some brawling on the outside Kingston went for a Boom Drop on the apron, but instead got thrown head first into the ring post.

From there Drew bundled him back inside the ring and hooked up the FutureShock before covering for the 1..2..3.

Drew McIntyre wins by Pinfall and qualifies for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

    Segment 4

    The Serena Situation

After another Alberto Del Rio promo where he referred to a University as a lactating mother and himself as a hungry baby (no joke) C.M Punk and Luke Gallows made their way to the ring to discuss the actions of Serena last week.

Luke Gallows opened by saying that everyone saw something they shouldn’t last week, it was all down to one person, and if Serena has even a shred of dignity left she’ll come out from the back now.

Serena appears and apologises for the mistake she made, both in getting drunk and in defying her leader last week, but says she cares about Punk much more than she can describe and sees him as more than just a leader.

She says that if she hadn’t put a stop to Kane last week there was no telling what he would have done, then begs Punk for his forgiveness.

Gallows dives in and calls her the most pathetic person he’s ever seen in his life, and says there’s no way Punk will forgive her.

He says that it makes him sick to think of how he considered her a sister of the S.E.S and admits that after they found her in the bar he wanted to kick her out right then and there.

He tells of how Punk convinced him otherwise as Serena was supposed to be an example to all the women around the world, but she ruined it.

He says that if she is truly sorry she’ll walk away from the group forever, but it’s not his decision, it’s Punk’s.

Punk takes over and initially looks like he is addressing Serena, but then turns to Gallows, saying the only sensible thing he’s heard him say so far tonight was that it isn’t his decision, and he forgives her.

Gallows turns away then leaves the ring, clearly annoyed.

Serena says that she can never explain what Punk has done for her, but promises she will never stray from the S.E.S lifestyle and fail him again.

He tells her she better not, in a voice similar to that of Bert from Sesame Street (I think the mask was to blame), then they hug while Gallows looks on disapprovingly from the top of the ramp.

    Match 4

    Singles Match
    ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes
    Vs.
    JTG

Cody’s got a new toy this week.

He’s got a ‘Digital Mirror’ as part of his entrance now.

Basically there’s a cartoon mirror on the huge digital wall at the top of the ramp, and when he looks into it, it displays his face across the rest of said digital wall.

    Clever stuff.

This match was so un-interesting I actually forgot to write it up (not quite sure what distracted me at the time) and am adding this bit in over a week after the show aired.

    Whoops.

Anyway, Rhodes won with the Cross-Rhodes.

    Cody Rhodes wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    Kelly Kelly Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews began to ask Kelly Kelly her feelings on getting a Womens Title shot at Money in the Bank, but before she could answer Layla interrupted shouting ‘Smelly Kelly’ over and over.

She told Kelly the only way she’d win is if she passed out from the bad smell, which pushed Kelly into snapping.

But just as she laid her hands on Layla, Michelle McCool appeared and dropped her from behind.

Tiffany appeared too late as referees surrounded Kelly to make sure she wasn’t hurt.

    Segment 6

    The Big Show Interviewed

After a plug for the Money in the Bank theme Josh Mathews spoke to The Big Show backstage.

He asked him about what Swagger did to him and to Rey Mysterio over the past couple of weeks.

Show talked about how painful the Anklelock was and said tonight he would be the one making Swagger suffer.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match

    Jack Swagger
    Vs.
    The Big Show

As this match got off to a flying start, with Big Show dominating completely, Show delivered a huge slap to the chest which had the crowd Woo’ing like Ric Flair (which was probably the catalyst that lead to Flairesque chops being banned, as this show is filmed on Tuesdays.)

As he promised earlier in the week The WWEBlog Informant has one more chunk of gossip for our fans, and as we’re at the main event, I suppose we’d better here it now!

    Hello WWEBlog Fans!

Yes, as I promised on Raw, I have one more morsel of information to whet your appetites this week, and put this unknown gossip-monger well and truly in his place.

The Deadman has shown signs of awakening from his vegetative state!

Word around backstage is that Taker is provisionally pencilled in for a SummerSlam comeback, just like Triple H.

How this will tie into Kane’s vigilante hunt I’m still not quite sure, but expect a slew of flickering lights, lightning bolts and flaming torches following Money in the Bank.

    -The Informant

Anyway, this match ended in somewhat of an anti-climax, as Show chased a crawling Swagger up the ramp while they both got counted out.

At the top of the ramp Show looked like exacting some revenge Swagger kicked out his ankle and fled around the side of the staging.

However, just as he ducked through the curtain backstage Kane appeared and clasped his hand around The All American American’s throat.

After screaming ‘We need to talk’ in his face Kane dragged Swagger into a red-lit room and began to interrogate him.

He told Swagger he proved that he injured Taker over the past weeks, by showing how much he likes to make people suffer.

Swagger continually pleaded his innocence, then said he had an alibi, which he would prove next week.

Kane told him he had one week, and his alibi had better be good, because if there is any doubt in his mind, he will be condemned to hell.

Rey Mysterio & The Big Show win by Disqualification.
