The Smackdown Summary
Opening Segment
Are You Scared? He’s Here.
The Deadman kicks off tonight’s smackdown, but not before Matt Striker has informed us about tonight’s main event (Batista Vs. Matt Hardy) and talked a load of garbage about how ‘many saw’ Batista’s attack last week as a blind-sided one.
Well, anyone who didn’t see it that way can’t have been watching (or reading WWEBlog.)
Taker begins the segment by talking about how he débuted at Survivor Series many years ago, then swiftly moves on to his challengers for the upcoming SS event.
He says that while The Big Show might think he won a shot at the gold by betraying Team Raw, what he actually won was the opportunity to be terminated by The Deadman.
Interestingly, he says that there are few things that bring joy to his dark heart; one of them is fighting alongside his brother Kane, the other is fighting against his brother Kane.
He blames Jericho for taking this opportunity away from him, so at Survivor Series he will take his soul, yadda yadda.
Jericho then emerges and coolly makes his way to the ring.
He says that the WWE Universe have been waiting years to see ‘The Best in the World Vs. The Phenom’.
Jericho then gives the Webster’s definition for Phenom and decides that it suits him better, blowing his own trumpet in the process and claiming that The Undertaker isn’t a Deadman but rather an ordinary man, like all the other men he’s beaten recently (Kane, John Cena, The Big Show etc.)
Jericho says that he isn’t intimidated by Taker and at Survivor Series he will become a 6-time Heavyweight Champion.
Taker decides he’s had enough and sets Jericho up for the Chokeslam, but Jericho fights free and eventually escapes the ring, although only after he’d taken a Big Boot to the face.
After a recap of the Batista/Mysterio situation a video plays hyping Smackdown from Sheffield, England on Tuedsay the 10th, where Taker will take on C.M Punk in a Casket Match.
Looks like there’s still tickets available, so if anyone would like to donate some cash and send a couple of WWEBloggers to the show, we’d be very grateful *wink* *wink*
Match 1
6 Man Tag Team Match
John Morrison & Cryme Tyme
Vs.
Dolph Ziggler & The Hart Dynasty
Oh for f… You have GOT to be kidding me.
Cryme Tyme Vs. The Hart Dynasty AGAIN!
I’m pretty sure we’ve now seen more matches between these two teams than John Cena Vs. Randy Orton, Edge and The Big Show combined.
Yes The Hart Dynasty are great, I guess Cryme Tyme aren’t that bad either, but how many times can you watch the same crap before it becomes old and tired?
Luckily Ziggler and Morrison were thrown into the mix this time and that really helped to freshen things up.
The heels played their part brilliantly, although it was the same old isolate, wear out, prevent the tag stuff that we usually see.
Morrison finally took the hot tag from JTG, then brought Shad into the match as things began to break down.
Shad had DH Smith under control but Ziggler made the tag without him knowing and moments later hit the ZigZag for the 1..2..3.
Dolph Ziggler & The Hart Dynasty win by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Rey Mysterio Interviewed
Josh Mathews is sat down in the dressing room with Rey Mysterio, this must be serious.
He asks Rey how he feels about Batista turning his back on him and what state of mind he is in.
Rey says it was like losing a family member over something really small and pointless, then says something in Spanish, which I assume was pretty much the same thing.
Josh tells Rey that he will face Batista at Survivor Series, then asks him if he has a message for his former friend.
Rey wraps the segment up by telling Batista he has thrown away their friendship and the spirit of Eddie Guerrero.
He says that something has gotten into Batista and he plans to get it out, promising that at Survivor Series Batista will see a different side to him.
Match 2
Divas Match
Beth Phoenix
Vs.
Brittany Carter
Another squash match for Beth?
I don’t get what this is achieving. She’s already been built up as this all-powerful Glamazon and dominated the Women’s division on Raw for quite a while.
Squash matches are usually reserved for building up powerful new talent and I personally don’t think they are needed for Beth.
As you’d expect Brittany never even got out of the blocks and fell victim to the Glam Slam.
Beth Phoenix wins by Pinfall.
Match 3
Singles Match
Drew McIntyre
Vs.
Jimmy Wang Yang
True to his recent form McIntyre jumps Wang Yang before the match has even begun and dumps him from the top rope to the outside.
McIntyre tells the crowd that the party won’t start until he gets some decent competition and begins to leave.
Jimmy Wang Yang then crawled back into the ring and demanded the referee start the match.
Jimmy mounts some early offence with a Chop but from then on it was all McIntyre, who picked up the win in less than a minute with the Double Arm DDT.
After the bell McIntyre delivered a brutal knee to the back of Wang Yang’s head.
Drew McIntyre wins by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Batista Interviewed
Before the previous match we were informed that Batista would be in the ring soon to address his current situation with Rey Mysterio and explain why he attacked Matt Hardy.
Josh Mathews caught up with Batista backstage and asked him why he attacked Matt last week.
Batista explained that he isn’t here to make friends, he’s here to become World Champion and his supposed friend Rey Mysterio robbed him of that at Bragging Rights.
He says Hardy should have kept his big nose out of things, but if he has to hurt Mysterio, Hardy or anyone else on the Smackdown roster to get the gold again, he will do.
Rey Mysterio is in action next, so it looks like this was the explanation that the commentary team promised.
Match 4
Singles Match
Rey Mysterio
Vs.
Mike Knox
I knew Rey would be up against Knox, even before it was announced I knew for a fact it would be Knox.
How? Well there’s a slim chance I’ve developed some psychic powers, but I think it’s mainly down to how ridiculously predictable the WWE Creative team are being at the moment.
So far tonight we’ve seen 2 complete squash matches and 2 matches that must have been done at least a dozen times if not more.
I’ve seen everything Knox and Rey can do, and if I haven’t I don’t particularly want to see the rest of it.
Knox is powerful, he dominates the match, Rey is the underdog, he battles back against seemingly impossible odds and pulls out the upset win.
Same old, same old and unsurprisingly it’s exactly what happened here.
Rey Mysterio wins by Pinfall.
Match 5
Singles Match
C.M Punk
Vs.
R-Truth
Well I guess I can’t complain that we’ve seen this one before, but even so it seems like an odd combination.
The fact that Scott Armstrong is officiating makes me think that R-Truth could literally have been anyone , as he isn’t the focus of this match at all, Punk and Armstrong are.
Punk and Truth actually put on a very solid match and I personally think this is where both men have the chance to shine, when they are in the ring against another young, fast paced Superstar that can keep the tempo up from start to finish.
The end of the match, as I expected, featured Punk and Armstrong.
After failing to get the 3 count over Truth, Punk squared up to the referee and demanded he do is job and ‘count faster’. As Punk continued to feud Truth rolled him up and Armstrong did exactly as he was told, counting a fast 3 to end the match then fleeing from the ring pretty quickly.
After the bell Punk went crazy and had a temper tantrum of sorts, I wonder where this will go next.
Big win for R-Truth as well.
R-Truth wins by Pinfall.
Segment 4
Diva Survival
Backstage Mickie James is working with a clothing designer when Michelle McCool and Layla flank her.
They say that all the complaining she did when she got moved to Smackdown didn’t go down too well on the Blue Brand and no one really likes her.
They then say they are going to make life very hard for her and she should just leave.
Mickie tells them that at Survivor Series her team is going to beat their team and then she is going to come after the Womens Champion for the gold.
Segment 5
Matt Hardy Interviewed
In the interview area Josh Mathews asks Matt what prompted him to get involved in the Batista/Rey situation.
Matt says that he thought Batista was just having a momentary lapse, so he thought he could help him to set his mind straight, but it he now realises he was fighting a losing battle.
He says that tonight he isn’t here to help Batsita or be his friend, he’s here to fight him.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Batista
Vs.
Matt Hardy
Strangely Batista still seems to be playing to the crowd during his entrance, although it didn’t go down well at all as a chorus of boo’s rang out as he posed on the turnbuckle.
Batista dominated large periods of this bout with his powerful brawling style, although Matt did have the odd flurry that prevented this from becoming an all out squash match, even coming close to picking up a pinfall with a Twist of Fate late in the match.
Batista was able to grab the bottom rope just as the referee’s hand was coming down for three, and instantly exploded into a sequence of devastating offence which culminated in a monitor to Hardy’s back, costing him the match.
After the bell Batista continued to destroy Matt although refused to hit him with a Batista Bomb. Matt Striker speculated that this may be because the fans seemed to want it to happen, and Batista has completely turned his back on them.
Well, that’s it for tonight’s Smackdown folks. I’ll see you guys on Monday when Raw comes live from my home County of South Yorkshire!
Matt Hardy wins by Disqualification.
