The Smackdown Summary
Segment 1
Teddy’s Taker Announcement
Hey everyone, apologies first and foremost for the lateness of this article, it’s been a hectic weekend and I’ve only just had chance to catch up.
If you’re interested in helping out at WWEBlog and think you could turn your hand to one or more of the weekly shows, check out the Jobs page and get in touch!
Bad news to start Smackdown as well, with Teddy Long delivering the shocking news that Taker is out of the Fatal 4 Way Match.
Well, he never actually said that, but he did explain that over the Memorial Day Weekend Kane had found his brother in a vegetative state after falling victim to an attack by an as yet unknown assailant.
Interesting that they have brought Kane into the storyline, I hope he goes on some sort of vigilante detective rampage trying to find out who’s done it.
Segment 2
A Monster Scorned
Following the usual opening fireworks and warm welcome from the commentary team a gaggle of druids emerged from backstage and wheeled a casket to the ringside area, while the usual druid’ey music played.
Once in place Kane’s music hit and The Big Red Machine made his way into the ring, where a microphone had been set up ready for him to speak.
He demands the druids open the casket, which is empty.
He delivered a fantastic promo about how The Undertaker, it’s most iconic figure who struck fear into the hearts of many a Superstar and fan, is now gone thanks to an act of cowardice.
He said that his brother would rise from the dead no more and promised that he would personally claim vengeance for all responsible for this atrocity and that they would soon be gone too, committed to the depths of hell and a torturous existence that they cannot fathom.
Amazing promo, probably one of the best I recall seeing in the past 10 years.
It’s very rare I’m hooked from start to finish on a promo, but Kane did such a good job conveying his anger, sadness and sense of loss, that I just couldn’t take my focus from it.
At the end of the segment Kane executed his brother’s trademark kneel, before breaking down and screaming about how he should have been there to do something about it.
Kane’s getting a push, which is amazing and well overdue, but I’ve got this awful feeling the payoff will be that Kane attacked Taker and took him out.
It’s just an inkling, I hope I’m wrong.
Match 1
Singles Match
Jack Swagger
Vs.
M.V.P
I didn’t enjoy the first time Swagger and M.V.P had a rivalry, mainly because it focused almost entirely around M.V.P’s real-life misdemeanour’s, which just struck me as pretty boring.
As for the matches, meh. They weren’t bad, but I find it hard to get interested in even quite decent matches when the storyline has been so average, and as there has been no progression and this was just a one off prep match, all I could think about was the previous angle.
On the plus side this was yet another match that got a good solid chunk of the card to work with, rather than the quick two minute bouts we’ve grown accustomed to in the past year or so.
M.V.P came close to victory, but ultimately made the cover just too close to the ropes, allowing Swagger to break the pin and go on the offensive moments later.
However, it was only by using the ropes on a quick roll-up that the World Champion could get the job done.
Almost immediately after the bout had finished Hawkins and Archer stormed the ring and beat the hell out of M.V.P, presumably in order to ‘make an impact’.
I’d have been more impressed if they’d gone after The Big Show or someone like that.
Jack Swagger wins by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Tough Decision Teddy
Backstage Teddy Long is still looking rather sombre in his office when Vickie Guerrero enters.
She tells him that he has to get a hold of himself and name a new 4th man for the Fatal 4 Way PPV, then suggests Dolph Ziggler as an ideal candidate.
Teddy has other ideas and books a Battle Royal tonight including every guy on the Smackdown Roster, with the winner taking the coveted 4th spot.
Great, that should be fun to cover!
Segment 4
Punk in the Frame
Backstage Punk is checking his mask when Kane storms into his dressing room.
He says that Punk has the ‘stench of guilt’ on him and asks him if he was the one to attack Taker.
Punk says that the S.E.S didn’t do it and if they can help they’ll be happy to assist a fallen brother.
The word brother seems to hit Kane hard, as he tosses Punk out of shot and continues to seethe.
Match 2
Intercontinental Championship Match
Drew McIntyre
Vs.
Kofi Kingston (c)
Can you believe McIntyre had the IC title for SIX months before dropping it a few weeks back?
The past half a year really must have flown by, because it doesn’t seem two minutes since he made his début as ‘The Chosen One’.
About half way through this very solid bout Matt Hardy entered the arena, but as a paying customer with a (you guessed it) front row ticket.
It’s amazing how they can always get a front row ticket isn’t it? And how they always time their arrival to coencide with the match their rival is involved in.
From that point on the majority of the match was about how McIntyre kept taking his eyes off Kingston in order to focus on Hardy, which ended up costing him the match and his shot at the gold.
McIntyre decided to fire the first shot, hitting Matt with a huge backhand while brawling with Kofi on the outside.
Moments later Hardy tried to jump the rail, distracting McIntyre long enough for Kofi to hit the S.O.S and grab the win.
After the bell Hardy broke through the security and hit McIntyre with a Twist of Fate before fleeing through the crowd.
Kofi Kingston wins by Pinfall and retains the Intercontinental Championship.
Segment 5
The Real Assailant
Backstage Kane is sitting with The Undertaker’s real assailant, the man who injured him in last week’s main event; Rey Mysterio.
Mysterio offers Kane his sympathy, but The Big Red Machine tells him that he doesn’t need it and puts Rey in the frame because he lost to Taker last week.
Kane says he will not blindly assume anyone’s innocence and continues to breathe heavily despite Rey denying any involvement.
Elsewhere backstage Jack Swagger delivered yet another one of his annoying self-promoting promos, this time about his footballing career.
He demands everyone in the arena stand up and sing along to the Sooners fight song (aka JR’s entrance music. I miss good old JR!) but it gets cut short as Kane appears behind him, and as we already know he’s in no mood for a sing-song.
Match 3
Divas Match
Rosa Mendes
Vs.
Kelly Kelly
Lay-Cool came and stood at the top of the ramp moments into this match, which I skipped through for the most part.
Despite the obvious distraction from Michelle and Layla, Kelly Kelly picked up the win with a Fame-Asser after some horrific wrestling from both women.
Kelly apparently has her eye on the Womens Championship, but based on this match the difference in wrestling ability is far too vast for her to be worthy of a title run, but then when has that ever stopped the WWE putting gold on people.
Kelly Kelly wins by Pinfall.
Segment 6
More Detective Work
Backstage The Big Show and Hornswoggle are playing cards when Kane enters.
He tells The Big Show that down the years Taker has always had his number, and that seems like a pretty good motive.
Show tells him that he had nothing to do with it, and for Kane to formally accuse him would be a ‘GIANT’ mistake.
Kane decides to leave, but kicks the card table over before he does.

This is going to be qiute a task, but I’ll try and bring you as much info as I can on each elimination.
While we’re waiting for the first one to take place, here’s the latest from the WWE Informant:
As you may have noticed, Finlay is now back on Smackdown.
Vince McMahon had recently made the decision to remove Finlay from the active roster and make him a road agent, as he felt he was too old to be a credible on-screen talent.
However, rumour has it that he made a U-Turn on this decision when he realised the talent pool on Smackdown is severely lacking, re-enstating the original Fighting Irishman to the Blue Brand for the forseeable.
Elsewhere news is that Evan Bourne is in line for a huge push, despite his obvious lack of personality and Edge has revealed plans to retire in 2 years time, so make the most of him while you can.
That’s all for now, but rest assured I’ll be back soon with yet more rumour and speculation.

During the closing moments of the match the S.E.S’s hooded assailant struck, doing his all to help Gallows eliminate Kane.
He failed as Kane threw him from the apron, then swiftly dispatched of Gallows moments later.
Kane looked like he was heading for the win, but Mysterio avoided yet another elimination and flicked the 7 footer over the top after escaping the Chokeslam.
Rey Mysterio qualifies for the World Heavyweight Championship Match at Fatal 4 Way.
