    The Raw Review

    Pre-Segment

    Back to Business

    Hell0 everyone!

I’m back after a much needed break and although returning to over 8 hours worth of programming might sound daunting to most, I’m actually quite looking forward to it.

This is mostly due to the quality of last week’s Raw, which I personally thought was one of the best in a long long while, at least in terms of ‘getting to the point’ and not having a load of pointless ‘joke’ segments.

That said, I should have returned to the blog yesterday, but in my eternal wisdom decided a better idea would be to get hammered on fancy cocktails.

As a result I awoke this morning with the mother of all headaches, feeling just a little bilious.

It was at this point I decided the best plan of action would be the good old ‘hair of the dog’ method, so I sit here now, keyboard in-front of me, cocktail to the left and remote to the right, hoping and praying to god there’s nothing too taxing in this week’s collection of shows!

Thanks again to everyone for re-joining us after my break, and to the other WWEBlog staff members who kept things ticking over with some great articles in my absence.

Now, lets get to that show shall we?

    Segment 1

    Cagey GM Announcements

After some nicely edited footage of Mr. McMahon’s beating at the hands of the Nexus last week we cut to Cole and King.

Cole says the story has generated headlines worldwide (sure it has Mikey) and confirms that the faction is officially known as ‘The Nexus’.

He says the McMahon family are keeping tight lipped on the condition of Vince, and King explains that Wade Barrett, leader of Nexus, will meet WWE top brass tonight to discuss the future of the faction.

Cole explains that the anonymous GM will be part of the meeting, but will only converse via e-mail as usual, before Sheamus’ music hits and the WWE Champ hits the ring to start the show properly.

According to one member of the WWE Universe, or their sign at least ‘GINGERS HAVE NO SOULS’.

Sheamus says that he’s disgusted with what happened to the boss last week and as representative of Raw and the WWE as a whole, he’s out here tonight to make a statement:

    ‘The Champ is Here!’

Two obvious swerves from Sheamus in two weeks? Nice to see them using the top writers for the champs segments.

He says that although the ‘Nexus Lads’ got involved in his match last week, everyone knows that he would have beaten Cena and retained his title regardless, and the upshot is that Cena is no longer the #1 contender for his belt.

Sheamus says that he no longer has to look at Cena’s tacky orange t-shirts (cut to a selection of fans wearing said t-shirts), listen to his never say die catchphrases, listen to the crowd chant his name (cue a ‘Cena’ chant) and have to put up with constant jibes at his beautiful Irish skin.

Obviously as Sheamus continued to rant about how much he hated the former champ, Cena’s music hit and he made his way to the ring with unusually strong support from the crowd.

The Celtic Warrior asks him what he’s doing and Cena explains that he hasn’t come out for another shot at the WWE Championship, but rather to ask his rival for help.

He warns Sheamus that the Nexus attacked him because he was WWE Champion, and they are likely to turn their attention to ‘the human jar of mayonnaise’ now he has the belt.

He tells him that if he wants to keep his title, and his career, they should join forces and and call out the Nexus.

    *TINKLE*
    *TINKLE*

It looks like the GM has something to say.

Michael Cole interrupts and gets roundly booed for doing so.

He climbs up onto a newly erected ‘General Manager’ plinth and reads out an email.

It basically says that the Nexus will have until next week to present their case, if any Nexus Superstar attacks tonight they will be terminated and if any WWE Superstar initiates a fight they will be suspended.

Cena and Sheamus both seem disappointed, and Cena tries to turn the situation to his favour by lobbying for a WWE Championship match.

    *TINKLE*

The G.M this time announces that Sheamus will indeed be in action tonight, but against Mark Henry.

Cena flips out (making reference to the World of Warcraft freak out video) and demands the G.M emails him personally at candypants564@gmail.org.

    *TINKLE*

This time the GM plugs the Money in the Bank PPV and says that the 8 people competing in Raw’s MitB match will be announced later tonight, but right now he’d like to ‘demonstrate’.

Sheamus says he’s had enough and leaves the ring, at which point a Steel Cage begins to descend.

    *TINKLE*

I’m sick of this tinkling already.

Cole finally reveals that as last week’s title shot ended abruptly, Cena would get one more shot at the gold, at Money in the Bank, in (you guessed it) a Steel Cage match!

    Match 1

    Mixed 6 Person Tag TeamMatch
    The Hart Dynasty
    Vs.
    The Uso’s & Tamina

As with most of the matches featuring The Uso’s and Tamina so far, this didn’t happen.

As The Hart Dynasty entered the ring, The Uso’s & Tamina struck, beating the hell out of them before exiting up the ramp, the damage done.

Seriously, are these guys injured or something?

So far we’ve seen one match on Superstars, let them fight already.

Match ends in a No Contest.

    Segment 2

    R-Truth Interviewed

Josh Mathews asked R-Truth what he thought should happen to The Nexus.

Truth said they have been acting like wild animals, and he’s the Zookeeper, so they should leave them here in the WWE to take their punishment, or something random and nonsensical like that.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Vladimir Kozlov
    Vs.
    Santino Marella

Ok, so the stipulation here is that if Santino can beat Kozlov, he’ll agree to form a tag team with the King of the Cobra.

Yeah, I can’t believe they are still going with this either.

This has to be the slowest build to the most pointless mismatched tag team in WWE history.

Except that’s not how it finished.

Kozlov dropped Santino with the Iron Curtain, then helped him back to his feet numerous times after the bell.

Regal headed down the ramp as Kozlov left, shaking his hand before jumping into the ring to beat the hell out of Santino.

Kozlov turned around and made the save (to a HUGE pop no less), angering Regal before helping Santino to the back.

    Vladimir Kozlov wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    The Great Khali Interviewed

Josh Mathews asked Khali the question of the night regarding how The Nexus should be dealt with.

He answered, but then Ranjin Singh ended up pulling a semi-heel turn, translating what he said into something completely different and saying that he’s sick of having Khali’s back.

    Segment 4

    Guest Host Rob Zombie

I guess we just got lucky last week, as tonight we have another guest host in the form of Rob Zombie.

I like Rob Zombie, he’s done a lot for the WWE in the past, but I’m annoyed they are carrying on the Guest Host stuff.

He plugs the Money in the Bank PPV and says he’s here to announce the 8 guys in the Raw match, who are as follows:

    1. Randy Orton
    2. The Miz
    3. R-Truth
    4. Chris Jericho
    5. Evan Bourne
    6. Ted DiBiase
    7. John Morrison
    8. Edge

Zombie puts a lot of effort into announcing 1 to 7, but then shows some disdain for Edge.

Edge appears on the tron and says that he hasn’t talked to Zombie since he personally called him to tell him that he would no longer be using his song as his entrance music.

Zombie turns the tables and says that he pulled the song from Edge as he couldn’t stand to see him destroy it any more, and that’s all he’s saying.

Zombie leaves the ring and allows Edge to crow about how he was the first Money in the Bank winner and subsequently the first to cash it in and take John Cena’s title, showing an accompanying video package.

I didn’t realise he left it 10 months before cashing in, I guess that year really flew by.

Edge says that he had so much fun doing that, he did it again years later to The Undertaker.

He explains his statement last week, when he told Randy Orton that the fun begins now, saying he owns the Money in the Bank match and he’s going to crush the other 7 guys to take the briefcase.

    *TINKLE*

Michael Cole draws yet more boos as he announces tonight’s main event; Edge, Miz, DiBiase & Jericho Vs. Bourne, Morrison, Truth and Orton.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    Sheamus
    Vs.
    Mark Henry (w/Lucky Cannon)

I lost interest in this match pretty quickly, so thankfully it didn’t last too long, and by the time I’d added a few links to the previous segments/matches and got the quick links up to date, Sheamus had won the match against the odds with a Pump Kick.

    Sheamus wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    The Nexus Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews asked The Nexus (minus Wade Barrett) how they felt about the stipulation that they can’t touch another WWE Superstar without facing the chop.

Michael Tarver says that it works both ways, and because of this they can still make an impact.

Mathews asks what they mean and Skip Sheffield knocks the crap out of one of the crew standing just out of shot, demonstrating exactly what they mean.

    Segment 6

    Loopholes

It’s plugging time, and the honour falls to Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler this time.

He talks about a new DVD out tomorrow chronicling the career of Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat, showing a video about it.

If you want to know more about The Dragon, check out our 2009 Hall of Fame Article!

After the vid King brought out Steamboat for a bit of a love-in.

Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Mike ‘IRS’ Rotundo and Michael ‘PS’ Hayes piled out from the back and gave some heartfelt sentiments.

Steamboat thanks them and the WWE Universe before the obligatory interruption, this time from the Nexus.

The legends in the ring immediately begin to strip down, ready for action.

The Nexus circle the ring like a pack of dogs, before Heath Slater eventually mounts an attack and gets beaten to the outside.

The Same thing happens to Tarver, but they eventually drag Arn Anderson to the outside and destroy him, before doing the same to Malenko and IRS.

With the legends numbers depleted The Nexus hit the ring and the numbers game proves to be the victor once more, as King and Hayes are left battered and bruised around ringside.

Attention then turns to Steamboat, who attempts to fight off the six of them, but ultimately ends up on the canvas after a finisher-fest lead by Heath Slater, who seems to have assumed the role of leader in Barretts absence.

After some commercials The Legends are recieving treatment and Michael Cole explains that as Legends are not technically Superstars, The Nexus will recieve no punishment for their actions, and the WWE locker room didn’t pile out to help as their hands were tied by the same announcement from the GM.

Seems like a pretty big loophole left in the GM’s announcement there.

    Perhaps s/he’s a heel.

    Match 4

    Divas Tag Team Match
    Maryse & Alicia Fox
    Vs.
    Eve & Gail Kim

Josh Mathews has replaced King at the announce position, I assume for the remainder of the show.

Mathews explains that many WWE Superstars were seething about the attack that just took place, but were powerless to help thanks to the GM’s stipulations.

Short Divas match here which ended in a win for Alicia Fox with the Scissor Kick.

Maryse and Alicia rather predictably had a little set-to after the bell, indicating that Maryse is still keen on getting her hands on the Divas gold.

Maryse & Alicia Fox win by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    8 Man Tag Team Mega-Match
    Team Edge
(Edge, The Miz, Ted DiBiase & Chris Jericho)
    Vs.
    Team Orton
(Randy Orton, Evan Bourne, R-Truth & John Morrison)

For some reason a red Money in the Bank briefcase is suspended above the ring and a ladder set up underneath it as the Superstars begin to make their entrances.

The good guys congregated at the bottom of the ramp awaiting their captain, and John Morrison pulled another ladder from under the ring, setting it up on the outside, presumably for symbolic purposes, although I wouldn’t be surprised if someone didn’t end up getting whipped into it.

This was a good match, and actually had me changing my opinion on these huge ‘more the merrier’ type matches, mainly as all 8 guys got plenty of time to do their thing.

Bourne in particular got a lot of ring time and looked even more impressive than ever before, but then his main flaws lie outside the ring so I wasn’t too surprised.

Orton hit the ring at the death of the match and immediately picked up the win, taking out DiBiase with the RKO.

After the bell Edge attacked Orton, clearing the ring with a huge ladder until Morrison and Bourne turned the tides.

Miz was next to capitalise on a distraction, hitting Morrison with the Skull Crushing Finale before setting up the ladder to climb for the red Raw briefcase.

However, before he could get there Orton rallied and tipped him to the outside, before doing the same himself, grabbing the case as the show went off the air.

    Team Orton win by Pinfall.
