    The Raw Review

*Apologies for the lateness guys, something went wrong mid-week and this article didn’t go live.

    Segment 1

    All-Star Kick Off

John Cena opens the show tonight and gets heavily booed, despite his ‘groundbreaking’ introduction of an all-star team at the climax of Raw last week.

He wins them over partially by throwing out a cheap Texas plug and mentioning The Nexus, but the highly mixed reaction continued throughout his promo and really killed the mood.

Cena said that his team would face, beat and put a stop to The Nexus at SummerSlam, saying that it HAS to be done for the future of Raw.

He makes some comparisons between his team and The Justice League before getting interrupted by Chris Jericho, who draws a HUGE Y2J chant.

Jericho takes issue with Cena calling the All-Stars ‘his’ team, claiming that as he knows more about Barrett and Nexus it should be HIS team.

Cena quickly relinquishes leadership, explaining that he doesn’t care who’s team it is as long as they beat Nexus.

Jericho starts to rant about being in charge some more until Cena knocks the microphone out of his hand, which instantly seems to garner favour with the crowd, who begin chanting his name.

Cena tells him that it isn’t about the individuals, it’s about the business and preserving it from Nexus.

After an impassioned speech from Cena Jericho tells him that he is as bad as The Nexus, the only difference is he has the support of the hypocrites in the attending audience.

He vows to stand beside Cena until The Nexus have been eliminated, but then promises to also rid the WWE of Cena with or without the help of the other Superstars.

Cena tells him to take his best shot right there and then but…

    *TINKLE*

Captain Cole hops aboard his vessel and informs everyone of the G.M’s latest whim; the All-Stars Vs. Nexus Match at SummerSlam will be an Elimination Match and Wade Barrett’s team will get a taster tonight in an Elimination Match against ’7 Raw Superstars’.

Furthermore, Jericho and Cena will pair up to take on a team of the G.M’s choosing and if they’re  not down with that, he’s got two words for them.

I guess we can add Triple H/Shawn Michaels (and Hornswoggle) to the Raw G.M possibilities list.

    Match 1

    Singles Match
    Randy Orton
    Vs.
Jay Uso (w/Jimmy Uso & Tamina)

With the #1 contender for the WWE Championship participating in here, Sheamus decided to take up residence at ringside for this opening match.

Normally you’d assume this would be a squash match, with the well established Orton taking on the recently promoted up and comer. But with Sheamus, Jimmy and Tamina all milling around outside the ring, the deck looked considerably stacked against The Viper.

However, the result was never really in doubt and Orton picked up the victory with the RKO before anyone had even had chance to get involved.

After the bell Sheamus distracted Orton while Jimmy Uso jumped him, but the tables quickly turned as The Celtic Warrior accidentally took out his associate with a Pump Kick, then tasted an RKO.

Immediately afterwards The Miz’s music hit and he sprinted to the ring with a referee and his Money in the Bank contract in hand!

However for the second week running Miz’s sure-fire title win was thwarted, this time by Orton who slithered back into the ring and planted him with the third RKO of the evening.

    Randy Orton wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    Edge Goes Recruiting

Backstage Edge is talking to Ted DiBiase about the All-Star match at SummerSlam.

He says that he’s happy to be getting his hands on The Nexus at SummerSlam, but at the same time he wishes that Ted was on the team rather than The Great Khali.

After listing Khali’s worst attributes between them, DiBiase hopes that after he beats John Morrison tonight Cena will see the error of his ways and draft him into the team.

Edge agrees then says that if Cena doesn’t take Khali out, he might just have to do it himself.

As the two go their separate ways Ranjin Singh is shown talking to a member of the crew.

After overhearing Edge and DiBiase he quickly excuses himself and scurries away.

    Segment 3

    Meanwhile, Back in the Ring…

… The Miz and Sheamus, having recovered from an RKO-a-piece, are at each other’s throats.

    *TINKLE*

After botching his line Cole reveals that the G.M has come up with the team who will challenge Cena and Jericho tonight.

Surprise surprise it’s ‘a team of champions’ made up of The Miz and Sheamus.

    Segment 4

    Meanwhile, In the Dressing Room…

… it looks like Ranjin Singh has been doing a touch of snitching, as The Great Khali bursts in on Edge shouting all sorts of nonsense.

Before someone complains, no I’m not making fun of the Punjabi language, more his pronunciation. I’d wager even if I could understand Punjabi, I wouldn’t understand it when it came from his mouth.

Luckily Ranjin Singh is on hand to cower behind the big man and translate.

Edge denies ever saying a bad word against the big man, but Khali presumably doesn’t believe it and challenges The Rated R Superstar to a match right now.

Edge accepts and adds the stipulation that if he wins, The Punjabi Playboy is off the All-Star team.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    The Great Khali (w/Ranjin Singh)
    Vs.
    Edge

Breaking news as the Superstars make their way to the ring!

The King is no longer on the commentary desk, as the G.M has summoned him backstage to be a part of the 7-man team facing The Nexus tonight.

This match had barely gotten going when The Nexus piled out from the back and surrounded the ring, but only after Edge had made a cowardly exit.

However, rather bizarrely and unexpectedly The Nexus parted and allowed Khali to leave the ring and head up the ramp.

Match ended in a No Contest.

    Match 3

    7 on 7 Elimination Match
    The Nexus
    Wade Barrett
    Heath Slater
    Justin Gabriel
    David Otunga
    Michael Tarver
    Darren Young
    Skip Sheffield

    Vs.
    Team Raw
    Evan Bourne
    Mark Henry
    Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler
    Yoshi Tatsu
    Goldust
    Tyson Kidd
    D.H Smith

The WWEBlog Informant told me earlier today that Mark Henry suffered a little knock at the hands of Barrett last week, presumably when he botched the finisher and dumped The World’s Strongest Man like a sack of potatoes, so I was surprised to see him make the cut for this one, it’ll be interesting to see if he has much involvement.

It didn’t take The Nexus long to begin dominating either, with Yoshi Tatsu being pinned by Michael Tarver for the first elimination.

    Elimination : Yoshi Tatsu

It surely can’t be long until Tatsu joins the ever growing list of free agents.

The King didn’t even get the dignity of an on-air elimination, falling victim to Heath Slater during the commercial break.

Elimination : Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler

Next to go were the Baby Bulldog D.H Smith, also pinned by the One Man Snoozefest Heath Slater and Goldust, eliminated by David Otunga.

    Elimination : D.H Smith

    Elimination : Goldust

Mark Henry finally stepped into the fray at this point and immediately began to destroy any Nexus member stupid enough to get in his way.

However he made the cardinal sin of getting distracted by a non-legal participant, and ended up being felled by Skip Sheffield, setting up a 7 on 2 situation.

    Elimination : Mark Henry

Seconds later Skip Sheffield flattened Tyson Kidd before tagging in Darren Young to pick the scraps.

    Elimination : Tyson Kidd

Evan Bourne put up a valiant effort, but his cards were already marked by this point and a Wade Barrett finisher sealed his fate.

    Elimination : Evan Bourne

After the match Wade Barrett directed traffic while one by one The Nexus hit Evan Bourne with finisher after finisher.

Barrett then told the crowd that the cracks in the All-Star team would ultimately destroy them at SumerSlam.

Skip Sheffield took over and jabbered on about the solidarity within Nexus that simply doesn’t exist in Cena’s team.

Tarver got his turn next and said that what just happened tonight will be the same way it goes down at SummerSlam, telling Cena they would sink their teeth into him like a piece of meat and have their fill.

    He’s an odd kid.

This was pretty embarrassing for those on Team Raw to be honest. Yeah I get they are booking The Nexus as all-powerful, but a dominant clean sweep against a team including the Tag Team Champions? REALLY?

They should have called them Team Sunday Night Heat.

The Nexus win by Clean Sweep.

    Segment 5

    Shea-Miz

Backstage Sheamus and The Miz are having somewhat of a heated team talk.

Sheamus lambastes The Miz for trying to cash in his Money in the Bank two weeks running and tells him that if he really wants to fight he should name a time and a place, and he’ll leave him black and blue.

Miz suggested tonight after the main event, saying he’d throw Sheamus to the wolves, watch them pick him apart then hit the Skull Crushing Finale to steal the title.

The Celtic Warrior showed his displeasure at these comments by smacking The Miz’s briefcase out of his hand and telling him to stop pushing it.

    Match 4

    Divas Match
    Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella)
    Vs.
    Alicia Fox (w/Jillian Hall)

Oh joy, The Bella’s are on Raw! Surely this can only mean some switch-a-roo fun!

Just in case you couldn’t sense the sarcasm in that statement, I’ll point it out for you.

And with this snorefest going on in the ring, what better time than now to check out the G.M odds again!

    Here are this week’s odds:

    Abraham Washington – 7/1

    Shawn Michaels and/or Triple H – 10/1

    Roddy Piper – 15/1

Stone Cold Steve Austin – 18/1

    Bret Hart – 20/1

    Stephanie McMahon – 30/1

    Good Ole’ JR – 45/1

    Michael Cole – 50/1

    Shane McMahon – 100/1

    Eric Bischoff – 1000/1

As you can see, not an awful lot has changed this week, but if you have any suggestions please feel free to drop an email to contactus@wweblog.co.uk or use the form (link is at the bottom of the page!)

Best suggestions go into the next set of odds!

Alicia Fox picked up the win here after The Bella’s had their ‘Twin Magic’ switch-a-roo attempt halted by Jillian.

After the match Jillian congratulated Alicia and sang to her as a thank you for getting one over on The Bellas, but the Divas Champion clearly wasn’t impressed, and drilled her with an Axe Kick.

    Alicia Fox wins by Pinfall.

    Match 5

    Singles Match
    Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse)
    Vs.
    John Morrison

R-Truth rapped his way to ringside before this match and decided to join the commentary team.

Oh joy, I can hardly wait to hear what he has to add.

The answer is nothing, unless you count jabbering ‘Jo-Mo Fo-Sho’ over and over, and ultimately costing Morrison the match.

The end of the match saw Maryse distract John Morrison as he was in control, DiBiase then rolled him up and used the ropes for leverage, but Truth initially made the save.

However seconds later Truth ambled up onto the apron and ended up knocking heads with Morrison thanks to a Drop-Toe Hold from Ted, earning him the win.

After the bell Truth and Morrison argued while Cena looked on worriedly from the back.

    Ted DiBiase wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 6

    Randy Orton Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews spoke to Randy Orton about how he prevented The Miz from cashing in Money in the Bank, speculating that he might want to face The Celtic Warrior at SummerSlam.

Orton said that he’d missed the point, which was that no matter who turns up at SummerSlam with the gold, he’ll be the one leaving with it.

    Main Event Match

    Tag Team Match
    John Cena & Chris Jericho
    Vs.
    Sheamus & The Miz

I’m not going to go over the top on this one, mainly as I’m getting increasingly bored with the whole ‘All-Stars team is full of rifts’ bit.

The long story short here is that both teams got along great until the climax, when Jericho hopped into the ring and hit his partner with the CodeBreaker.

After the bell Jericho and Cena went at it again, until Khali hit the ring to calm things down.

Then Edge joined the party and speared the hell out of the big guy, prompting Cena to start shoving him.

Next Truth and Morrison appeared and an almighty argument ensued, with Khali delivering a chop to John Morrison for no apparent reason as the show went off the air.

Sheamus & The Miz win by Pinfall.
