    Segment 1

    A Hart Start

Hey everyone welcome to tonight’s Live Raw here on WWEBlog!

The show tonight is coming from Canada and is commercial free! And what’s more we’re kicking off with The Hitman!

Just before we get into it, here’s another snippet from The WWEBlog Informant:

Rumour has it that Bret Hart had no idea he was being booked into a match tonight, and only found out about it AFTER The Miz had made the announcement on last week’s Raw.

The WWE Creative team were a little worried that they wouldn’t be able to persuade Hart, who’s contract expired following WrestleMania, to return, but thankfully he was happy to show up in his home country.

    - The Informant

After a huge ovation (would you expect anything different) Bret says that he saw The Miz challenging him last week and as he doesn’t take challenges lightly, he rang the WWE and confirmed that he’d be here tonight to participate.

He says that now he’s had a week to think about it and he’s decided that he doesn’t want to be one of those ‘old wrestlers that hang on’ like so many do, so he won’t be wrestling anyone tonight as he doesn’t want to go out like that.

Jericho’s music interrupts and despite also being one of Canada’s famed sons, the self-proclaimed face of Smackdown (and now Raw) didn’t quite get the same rousing reaction.

Jericho asks Bret why he came back to the WWE in the first place, then said he’d left it too long to prevent himself from becoming one of those guys that hold on too long and that he’d become a huge hypocrite.

He calls Bret a ego-driven phoney and claims that he deserved the treatment he received in Montreal 97.

Bret tells Jericho to look in the mirror, then tells a tale about how Jericho used to hang around The Dungeon trying to get a job as a wrestler while spending more time at the water fountain than actually putting in the work.

Jericho says that he looked in the mirror today and saw a wrestler that is far better than Hart ever was, then again questioned why Hart decided to come back tonight if he had no plans to wrestle, coming to the conclusion that he only did it to bolster his own ego.

Jericho says that no one, not even the fans, want Bret in the WWE any more, kicking off a huge ‘We Want Bret’ chant that echoed around the arena.

Jericho told him that his entire reputation relied upon what he does tonight, as if he is too scared to face The Miz it means his family name means nothing at all any more.

He wraps up by telling Bret that his father would be ashamed of him, prompting The Hitman to tell Jericho to inform his partner that he’s got a match tonight.

Jericho accuses Hart of planning on getting purposefully disqualified, then persuades him to make tonight’s match no-holds-barred, no count outs etc.

Bret finishes the segment by saying that he’ll be leaving the arena tonight with the US title.

    Match 1

    Pick Your Poison Match
    Edge
    Vs.
    Christian

Tonight’s gimmick between Orton and Edge is a ‘Pick your Poison’ thing, where both guys choose the others opponent.

Before the match Edge ranted about how Orton has attacked guest hosts and G.M’s over the past few weeks, but he got interrupted by Christian’s music, which came as quite a shock to everyone.

Michael Cole and King are once again referring to Christian and Edge as ‘lifelong friends turned enemies’ despite the fact that they were pushed as on-screen brothers for literally years and years.

So far we’ve seen exclusively Canadian stars grace the squared circle tonight, but I’m pretty sure they’ve almost run out now.

Cole has continually told us how these two guys ‘know each other so well’ during this match, it’s like he’s on commission for saying it or something.

Christian just came within a split second of being counted out after being slammed into the barricade on the outside! Edge had already started celebrating the win, but Captain Charisma barely slid under the bottom rope in time to break the count and the match continues!

While this highly anticipated match rumbles on I’d like to take the opportunity to announce a coalition between WWEBlog and Smark Out Moment.com! Anthony Mango is an incredibly talented writer and we look forward to working with him in the future, so I’d implore you all to check out his site, which has previews, predictions, current champions, a WWE Hierarchy table and also covers TNA!

Back in the ring Christian almost hits the KillSwitch but Edge counters into an Edgecution that grabs a 2 count.

Christian avoids a pair of Spears and hits the Fulcrum Prison Blues!

He’s setting up for the KillSwitch….

Edge counters and slams Christian’s injured shoulder into the ring-post!

    SPEAR! 1..2..3!

It’s all over, but what a match!

Randy Orton’s on the titan-tron now.

He congratulates Edge on the win, then says he can’t work out what Christian’s doing in the ring, because that’s not who he chose for his opponent tonight.

The lights cut out and Undertaker’s gong hits, it looks like Edge has got an even bigger challenge ahead of him!

    Edge wins by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Pick Your Poison Match
    Edge
    Vs.
    The Undertaker

That’s a very nice twist, but surely this match can’t last long with a worn out Edge and Taker with all his well-documented niggling injuries.

Edge has jumped straight to the outside, the ref’s count has hit 10, looks like I was right.

It looks like Christian has recovered from his loss, as he’s just popped up behind Edge and dumped him back into the ring!

    Chokeslam!

Edge is down and out in the centre of the ring and The Deadman has just picked up probably the easiest pay-cheque of his career.

    The Undertaker wins by Count-Out.

    Segment 2

    More Canadians

Backstage Maryse is getting her hair done, complaining about how Canadians hold Trish Stratus in such high regard.

She points out that there is a huge difference between being Canadian and being French Canadian, then starts to throw insults towards the current Divas Champion Eve, not realising that she is standing directly behind her.

Eve dumps a load of talcum powder in her hair before slamming her face into the make-up table a bunch of times before officials flooded the scene to tear them apart.

    Segment 3

    Buzz on Raw

Tonight’s guest host Buzz Aldrin finally makes his first appearance tonight, hanging out backstage with his wife Lois.

Vickie Guerrero enters and thanks her for visiting him in HIS office.

Vickie says there must be some sort of confusion as this is her office as she is the G.M of Raw.

Buzz tells her that she’s been axed after quitting last week, and her replacement will arrive next week, but for tonight he’s the one in charge.

Vickie continues to claim that it’s her office, until Buzz calls on The Bellas to throw her out into the parking lot.

Oooh, The Bellas! I bet she’s quaking in her boots.

    Segment 4

    Match Cancelled

After clips of Batista’s attack on Mark Henry last week on Raw, Henry makes his way to the ring with his shoulder heavily taped for the next match.

However, as he neared the bottom of the ramp Batista flew out from behind the curtain carrying a ridiculously oversized 2×4, which he snapped across Henry’s enormous back.

After delivering a huge beating which included wrapping Henry around the ring post and whipping him into the Steel Steps, Batista demanded a spotlight while be pranced around the ring and then up the ramp to the back.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    Ted DiBiase (w/Virgil)
    Vs.
    Yoshi Tatsu

Yes folks, you read that right, Ted DiBiase entered with the REAL Virgil for this match!

King and Cole have just explained a little more about DiBiase’s trust fund, which he has started to cash in.

Apparently there was a stipulation in place that Ted could cash in on the trust fund either when he reached a certain age, or he had a match at WrestleMania, whichever came first.

The match at WrestleMania came first and therefore Ted now has access to an almost bottomless pool of money that he has recently been using to buy people off (The Colons last week and Virgil this week it seems.)

Tatsu and DiBiase are both looking good in this match… Dream Street!

That’s it, just as I was about to go into some more detail Ted hit the Dream Street and picked up the 1..2..3.

After the bell Ted ordered Virgil to grab him a microphone.

He told R-Truth that the ‘original Virgil’ isn’t ashamed to be the ‘new Virgil’ and at Over the Limit he’ll be in his corner for their match.

He says that now his trust fund has kicked in he can buy whatever he wants, and if he can’t buy it, he’ll beat it.

Looks like a new catchphrase in the offing.

    Ted DiBiase wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    The Miz Interviewed… Kinda

After getting some words of encouragement from his partner Jericho, The Miz begins to head to the ring when Josh Mathews tries to grab an interview with the US Champ, but The Miz cuts him off and snatches the microphone.

He waffles on about how he shocked the world by challenging Bret Hart, how everyone including himself is excited to see The Hitman compete, how he is going to spit on the Hart family name and how he plans on making Bret tap out to his own Sharp Shooter as he makes his way to the ring.

    Match 4

    US Championship Match
    The Miz (c)
    Vs.
    Bret Hart

After the bell rings Miz jumps to the outside and grabs a microphone once more.

He says that he fully expects The Hart Dynasty to show up and help their mentor grab the win, so he’s paid a couple of ‘enforcers’ to deal with them when they do.

Kozlov and Regal emerge from the back and make their way to ringside, but instantly get jumped by Tyson Kidd and D.H Smith.

The two tag teams brawl to the back and Jericho appears and jumps the guard rails, making it a 2 on 1 situation.

Natalya jumps into the ring and stands alongside Bret, slapping the taste out of Jericho’s mouth when he demands she head to the back.

Bret gets a shot in on The Miz but then Jericho hits him with a sucker punch and it looks like a handicap situation is about to ensue.

However, DH Smith makes his way back to the ring and takes Jericho out of the picture.

The Miz looks to sink in the Sharp Shooter on Bret, but Tyson Kidd returns to the ring to make the save and seconds later he and DH Smith hit the Hart Attack!

Bret approaches The Miz… Sharp Shooter!

The Miz taps almost instantly! We’ve got a new U.S Champion folks!

Michael Cole is playing the heel again for some reason, claiming Bret should have stayed at home tonight and that The Miz didn’t deserve to be ganged up on. I wish they’d just decide if he was a neutural/face commentator or and out and out heel, because the constant flip-flopping is getting kinda annoying.

Bret Hart wins by Submission and becomes the NEW U.S Champion.

    Match 5

    Singles Match
    Lay-Cool & Maryse
    Vs.
    The Bellas & Eve

It’s nice to see the roster-draft means absolutely nothing already, less than a month after it took place.

Rather interestingly both members of Lay-Cool have Womens Championship belts, following Layla claimed the gold from Beth Phoenix last week on Smackdown in a 2 on 1 match.

If the outcome of this match was based on pure talent then Lay-Cool and Maryse would undoubtedly have the win in the bag, as The Gimmick Twins and Eve still haven’t really reached the levels that we’ve seen other Divas achieve in the past year or so.

Speaking of achieving a higher level of wrestling ability, Layla looked very impressive in the early stages of this bout, pulling out some very unique offence against Eve and one half of the Bellas (I’m not sure which one, Brie I think.)

I had expected The Bellas and Eve to pick up the win based purely on their popularity, but thankfully Maryse picked up the pinfall with a French Kiss.

She did manage to upset both of her partners in the process though, tagging herself into the match just as Michelle closed in on a victory.

After the bell Maryse and Eve tried their best to get at each other, but the referee and The Bellas managed to keep them largely separated.

Lay-Cool & Maryse win by Pinfall.

    Segment 6

    John Cena Interviewed

    Wow, Canadians hate Cena.

Even his mere presence backstage drew incredible levels of booing from the crowd.

Josh Mathews told Cena he had a lot of critics over the decisions he has recently made, such as fore fitting his rematch clause, choosing an I Quit match against Batista and accepting a battle against Sheamus just 6 days before said match.

Cena said he wouldn’t give his time to critics, but would rather focus on the fans that still stand behind him and aren’t afraid to wear his colours. This drew even louder booing from the crowd.

Cena talked about how he’s never backed down and he doesn’t intend on starting to, that he chose to forfeit his rematch because if he does say ‘I Quit’ at Over the Limit he doesn’t deserve to be champion and that come Raw next week he would still be the champ.

    Match 6

    Pick Your Poison Match
    Randy Orton
    Vs.
    Jack Swagger

Yet more cross-promotional encounters for this commercial-free episode of Raw.

The most annoying thing is both Raw and Smackdown now have strong enough rosters to put on shows independent of each other, and they don’t really need this cross-brand stuff when there are guys further down the roster not getting a chance because others are pulling double-duty.

This one’s been back and forth so far, but Jack Swagger currently has a very strong advantage after hitting a couple of big Splashes in the corner using the ropes for leverage.

Orton tries to fight back but gets caught with the Belly to Belly Slam, however seconds later Swagger goes for another Splash and gets nothing but the toe of Randy’s boot.

Orton’s in control now and looks to be setting up for the Rope Assisted DDT…

    Hits it!

    RKO coming…

    Edge hits the ring!

Orton goes for the RKO on Edge but he pushes him away…

    …right into Swagger! RKO!

    Spear! From Edge to Orton!

Orton won the match, but he doesn’t look to much like a winner at the minute, as Edge stands over him in a position of dominance leading into Over the Limit.

    Randy Orton wins by Disqualification.

    Segment 7

    Buzz hits the Ring

Buzz Aldrin hits the ring at last, and boy this could be the most bizarre thing I’ve ever seen.

With all the vim and vigour of a half-awake Sloth Buzz jabbered about how much he loves Monday Night Raw and how America needs new space ships.

Seriously, I think he might be on space dust or something.

Eventually Zack Ryder interrupts him and makes his way to the ring with Alicia Fox in tow.

He launches a tirade on Canadians and questions whether the moon landing ever actually took place.

Buzz reminds him of what happened last time someone questioned the moon landings, showing a clip of him socking some guy in the face.

Not a moment too soon Evan Bourne and Gail Kim made their entrance and Buzz introduced them incredibly badly, saying he’d be in their corner for the next match.

    Match 7

    Mixed Tag Team Match
    Zack Ryder & Alicia Fox
    Vs.
    Evan Bourne & Gail Kim

It seems that even The King felt a little embarrassed for Buzz, as he made some quip about zero gravity having an effect on people to cover up what was, quite frankly, the worst guest host segment there’s been since this gimmick started.

This match was fast paced and fun, if nothing else.

Kim picked up the win with the Eat Defeat on Alicia Fox, then celebrated with Buzz Aldrin and Evan Bourne after the match.

I respect the fact that the guy was part of the team that changed the world as we know it, but he really shouldn’t have been given this guest host thing because… well he can’t do it.

Just like you wouldn’t expect Steven Hawking to take on Usain Bolt in a 100m dash, the WWE shouldn’t have expected Buzz to be able to convincingly deliver these segments.

Next week we’re going to have a real entertainer hosting Raw, as Jon Lovitz takes over the show.

Even Bourne & Gail Kim win by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

    Singles Match
    John Cena
    Vs.
    Sheamus

To say this match has been touted all week, they haven’t really left much time for it to play out, with just 5 or so minutes remaining before we’re into the 15 minute ‘cushion’.

As I’ve not called many of the matches tonight in great detail, I’ll try my best with this one!

The match starts with a collar and elbow tie up, which Cena eventually comes out on top of, and after a little bit of back and forth both men end up on the outside.

Cena slams Sheamus’ head into the steel steps but moments later the Celtic Warrior whips him into the guard rail before following in with a big Knee to take the driving seat in this match.

Back in the ring Sheamus whips Cena into the turnbuckle, then catches him with an Axe Handle to the back which scores a 2 count.

Cena reverses a Supplex into one of his own and begins to control the match himself, drawing boos from the attending audience.

Sheamus is thrown into the ringpost and bounces to the outside, where he stays until a count of 6.

Once back in the ring Cena attempts the Attitude Adjustment, but Sheamus turns it into a huge STO Backbreaker and the momentum shifts once more, although not for long as Cena hits a Side Slam and regains control.

The tide turns again as Sheamus catches Cena with a Knee to the head, sending him to the outside, then scores with another one as the WWE Champion tries to make his way back into the ring.

Sheamus went for it a third time and missed, but managed to retain the upper hand by avoiding Cena’s trademark Bulldog, before dumping him to the outside once more.

The Fighting Irishman (we can call him that now that Finlay has officially been retired to the behind-the-scenes roster) continued the punishment until Cena kicked into life and began his ‘finishing sequence’ hitting a couple of Shoulder Blocks, a Backdrop and the 5 Knuckle Shuffule, but as he looked for the Attitude Adjustment Batista hit the ring and caught him with a Spinebuster seconds after he dumped Sheamus to the outside.

Batista continued to attack his Over the Limit opponent, hitting another two Spinebusters before locking on his new ‘brutal submission’ that did so much damage to Mark Henry last week.

The Animal demanded that Cena say he quits, but he refused as the show went off the air, screaming in supposed agony instead.

    John Cena wins by Disqualification.
