The Raw Review
Segment 1
N’ Explanation
After yet another airing of the N’vasion from last week (ok, we get it, it was amazingly well done, but we don’t need to see it a million and one times!) Wade Barrett kicked off the show.
He tells the audience that Raw GM Bret Hart has ordered him to come to the ring and apologise for what happened last week, so with that in mind he’d like to bring all the other NXT athletes to the ring so they can do it properly.
All the other NXT guys (barring Brian Danielson) head to the ring via the crowd, wearing ‘N’ armbands, prompting the commentary team and the ring announcers etc to jump up and make an exit.
Barrett asks the Rookies in turn to apologise and they all refuse to, most saying they enjoyed what they did last week and in no way regret it.
The only ones that did a half decent job of delivery were Sheffield and Otunga.
Barrett explains that on NXT they were treated like animals, and if you treat someone like an animal for long enough, they’ll snap. He talks about how hard done to they were, taking a pot shot at WWE Management by saying they continually changed the rules and tried to make ‘an international joke’ of all of them.
He says that jokes are meant to be funny, but he didn’t see anyone laughing last week when they destroyed the WWE Champion and anyone else they could get their hands on.
Bret emerges from the back and says that 8 guys on 1 doesn’t make you tough, it makes you a coward.
Barrett then breaks the taboo, mentioning Daniel Bryan. He says that Bryan felt exactly the same way as Bret and showed some compassion, so they kicked him out of their group and he’ll never be seen again.
Bret says that despite their attack Cena will compete at Fatal 4 Way, but Barrett interrupts and says that they have no problem with the majority of the WWE Locker Room, just WWE Management for how poorly they have been treated.
He says that although he has a WWE Contract and a title match, the other guys have some demands.
Otunga takes over and says that they ALL want guaranteed WWE Contracts, their own locker rooms and first class travel. If Bret and the WWE don’t agree, last week will pale in comparison to what they do next.
Barrett takes back over and says that Vince told him he’d be making hard decisions, but this one is easy, he should say yes.
Bret says no, then takes it a step further and fired Barrett on the spot!
Finally he tells them to get the hell out of the ring, or he’ll call the police and have them physically removed.
Match 1
Fatal 4 Way United States Championship Match
R-Truth
Vs.
John Morrison
Vs.
Zack Ryder
Vs.
The Miz
A nice bit of hype for the PPV on Sunday here, although sadly I fear that’s all it’ll be.
While the competitors made their entrance Cole and King talked about how happy they were that the NXT guys had been fired as now they can relax, I’ve got a feeling they may be thinking a little too prematurely.
I’m kinda surprised Zack Ryder has got a U.S. Championship shot so quickly, although it’s pretty obvious he’s just making up the numbers here. It was probably a coin toss between him and Mark Henry.
Miz and Morrison had some very good spots in this match, one in particular that caught my eye saw Morrison hit a Sunset Flip Powerbomb over the ropes to the outside, right into the waiting Ryder. Nice stuff.
In fact, the whole bout was littered with high spots and actually a really good advert for the upcoming event, even though I doubt both the currently booked title matches will be as fast paced as this one.
Hell, I even started to warm to R-Truth until he hit the Lie Detector and brought me crashing back to reality, although thankfully it didn’t win the bout as Morrison broke up the cover.
Ryder almost had it won with the Ruff Ryder, but Morrison again thwarted it and hit Starship Pain himself, but then Miz dumped his former partner from the ring and made the cover himself to grab the 1..2..3 and the title!
Wow. Just Wow.
I really didn’t see that coming! Truth has barely had the title a month or so!
Why the hell did this not happen on the PPV, which as of writing this still only has 2 matches booked onto it?
Great opening bout and I have to say I wouldn’t be against a re-match at Fatal 4 Way, because I think there’s still a lot these guys can do.
The Miz wins by Pinfall and becomes the NEW United States Champion.
Segment 2
Randy Orton Interviewed
Backstage a rather trendy looking Josh Mathews asks Orton about his shoulder and what he thinks will happen at Fatal 4 Way.
Orton says that he’ll be taking the title on Sunday and his shoulder will not be an issue.
Mathews then asks him what he thinks about the NXT guys and what they did last week.
He says that in some ways he respects them, as he knows all about doing something twisted to make an impact. But moreso he thinks they are a bunch of punks that deserve to either be fired or have their brains beaten in, and as they got fired, they got off lucky.
Segment 3
Guest Host Time!
Tonight’s guest host is Mark Feuerstein from a show called Royal Pains.
Don’t worry, I’ve never heard of it either.
After some behind-the-scenes footage of The Big Show filming some scenes for the show we cut to the office where he is currently hanging out with… The Bellas.
Without so much as a word of welcome Feuerstein throws in a couple of plugs for his show then says the Bellas would make great characters.
Ted DiBiase and Virgil enter and Ted tells Mark that if he makes him co-guest host there will be a nice shiny new car in the parking lot for him at the end of the show.
Feuerstein tells him there is no way but then begins backing down, until he notices that The Big Show has entered. He gets in DiBiase’s face and the upshot of it all is that a match gets booked between the four of them.
We’re going to get to see Feuerstein & The Big Show Vs. DiBiase & Virgil later tonight, oh joy.
Wait, I thought guest hosts didn’t have any booking power these days? I guess that’s been forgotten now.
Match 2
Singles Match
Chris Jericho
Vs.
Evan Bourne
I’m not sure what the creative team can do to get me interested in Evan Bourne now.
They’re pushing him like crazy and I’m still finding myself wondering why I should like him.
Anyway, this wasn’t a very long bout and saw Bourne win by Disqualification due to Jericho snapping after failing to get a 3 count after a CodeBreaker.
After the bell Bourne fought back and hit the Air Bourne, much to the thrill of the crowd and the commentators.
Evan Bourne wins by Disqualification.
Segment 4
Retribution
Through the show so far we’ve been told a handful of times that Cena would be out to the ring later to address what happened last week.
Once in the ring Cena seemed to get pretty badly booed, which I didn’t expect.
Cena says he got given the night off tonight, but he’s a warrior blah blah and being in the ring is the only way he knows how to deal with it.
He congratulates Bret for not caving in to the N’Invasion’s demands and says that he has a little bit of respect for what they did, as desperate times call for desperate measures.
Cena says that he has the biggest target on his chest of everyone in the company, so it was obvious why they went for him.
He says that the mistake they made was to take Raw away from the fans and take apart the WWE ring, as that made them millions of new enemies.
Cena warns that being fired and thrown out will mean nothing to them, as what they did last week proved that they aren’t scared of breaking the rules and the law.
He says that he’ll be going to Fatal 4 Way and every night he’ll be coming to the ring and calling them out so they can finish what they started.
He promises not to press charges and the NXT Rookies begin to once again filter through the crowd.
As they mass around ringside King jumps in the ring, then R-Truth, William Regal, Evan Bourne and Santino sprint down the ramp.
As a brawl breaks out Mark Henry, Randy Orton, Edge and Sheamus join the fray, running the Rookies from the ring, back through the crowd and out into the parking lot.
I love segments like this, great stuff.
Segment 5
Sheamus Interviewed
After the commercials Josh Matthews asked the Celtic Warrior why he came to the aid of John Cena.
Sheamus says that he’s not going to let a load of upstart NXT Rookies ruin his shot at the WWE Championship, and if anyone is going to take care of Cena, it’s going to be him.

Match 3
Divas Tag Team Match
Eve & Gail Kim
Vs.
Alicia Fox & Maryse
Good news everyone, we have another match booked for Fatal 4 Way.
Sadly, it’s the Divas Championship Fatal 4 Way featuring these four ladies.
Why oh why could we not have had this match tonight and seen the U.S. Championship match on the PPV card?
This match got the FF treatment, but I did stop it just in time to see Alicia accidentally boot Maryse in the face, then lose the match to a Neckbreaker from Eve.
After this match Cole announced that there would be a 1 on 1 U.S. Championship bout at Fatal 4 Way as R-Truth is invoking his rematch clause.
Yeah, have the Fatal 4 Way match on Raw then a singles match at the Fatal 4 Way PPV, that makes a lot of sense.
Eve & Gail Kim win by Pinfall.
Match 4
Tag Team Match
The Big Show & Main Event Mark
Vs.
Ted DiBiase & Virgil
Damn I took my finger off the FF button a bit too early.
I feel bad for DiBiase, he’s so much better than this whole guest host crap every week.
I won’t bore you with the details, but Show pretty much dominated the match then tagged in Main Event Mark who hit a modified version of The Worm to get the 1..2..3 over Virgil, while DiBiase just watched on.
After the bell DiBiase took out some $$ and shoved it down Virgil’s throat, before reconsidering and taking it back.
Looks like this could be the end of Virgil, I guess his contract was up.
The Big Show & Main Event Mark win by Pinfall.
Match 5
Singles Match
William Regal
Vs.
Santino Marella
Guest Referee: Vladimir Kozlov
I thought this whole Marella/Kozlov/Regal thing was a little bit of a joke, but they’re really running with it aren’t they!
After a few minutes of action Santino rolled Regal up with a handful of tights and Kozlov counted a quick three.
Santino Marella wins by Pinfall.
Segment 6
Bret’s Barricade
Immediately after the last match Bret Hart called the three men to the top of the ramp, where they were joined by every member of the Raw roster.
He said that he wouldn’t let history repeat itself on his watch, and King explained that he must not want a repeat of last week’s show, so he’s brought out a guard for tonight’s Tag Team Main Event which must be up next!
Main Event Match
Tag Team Match
John Cena & Randy Orton
Vs.
Edge & Sheamus
For the second time tonight we’ve got all four members of an upcoming Fatal 4 Way title match pairing off for a tag match.
I don’t usually look forward to PPV’s as much as I used to, as the standard seems to have slipped a little in the last couple of years, barring the odd one or two, but I have to say I’m eager to see Fatal 4 Way.
I like the style of match and although I tend to prefer elimination style ones, I do think that it’s one of the few match types that hasn’t been completely overused in recent years.
This was a good taste of what to expect, but to be honest it wasn’t anything we haven’t seen already; Orton hates Edge, Cena hates Sheamus, Vice-versa and so on.
What was interesting to see was how Orton and Cena, two guys who did all but kill each other for the majority of the last year, worked together as a unit.
Edge and Sheamus isolated Cena for the majority of the bout, with Orton going crazy on the apron begging for a tag.
When Cena did eventually make the hot tag (and believe me it took an age), Orton hit the ring with fury and took out both guys with ease, hitting Sheamus with the Rope-Assisted DDT and Edge with the RKO.
However, Sheamus struck while Orton was distracted and the match swung back in his favour as he focused on the injured shoulder.
This time it was Orton’s turn to be isolated, with similar results as he made the hot tag.
However, just as Cena looked to be closing in on a win the lights in the arena cut out and the Titantron showed the NXT guys trashing the backstage area and dragging a lifeless Bret Hart into a limo, which then reversed into the parking lot and smashed into a number of cars.
Then they dragged Bret back out of the limo and told him in no uncertain terms that they all wanted contracts by Sunday, before fleeing the area as the show came to a close.
Match ends in a No Contest.
