The Raw Review
Segment 1
Suspended Sentence
Big news to kick off Raw this week!
They’ve changed the WWE Ident!
New images, new sound-bites mixed in with the old ones. I’m not sure if this is purely to freshen things up, or whether it’s a TNA thing, like when they pulled Hogan’s audio and images.
If anyone knows of any other reason why they changed it this time please get in touch!
Anyway, in terms of the actual show, we kicked off with footage of last week’s show climax, when the anonymous G.M booked Cena in a 7 on 1 match tonight against the entire Nexus.
Or at least that’s what the match was SUPPOSED to be. However, as soon as the show began properly King informed us that due to the punishment Darren Young took last week he wouldn’t be involved, making it a 6 on 1 match instead.
Speaking of John Cena, he’s the first guy out tonight and he seems pretty happy for someone who’s on the way to a pretty much guaranteed ass kicking later tonight.
Cena thanked all the WWE Superstars who showed up last week to help out against The Nexus, but said after watching the footage he noticed there was no sign of Sheamus.
After blathering on about how he plans on winning the WWE Championship inside a Steel Cage on Sunday, Cena explained the perks of said match type, namely no escape and no interference.
He then moved onto the 6 on 1 handicap match, explaining what King had told us a few minutes ago to the attending audience, promising to take the rest of them out with or without the other Superstars help.
Cue The Nexus, wearing flashy new t-shirts.
They congregate at the top of the ramp and Barrett begins to speak for them.
He tells Cena that they could come down to the ring and beat the hell out of him now, but they’d rather wait till later when the whole world can see it (does he not think this is going out on-air?) and when they will have free reign without any repercussions or feelings of regret, as he’s brought it all upon himself and he’ll duly get what he deserves.
Cena says that Barrett is right, as he’ll get to knock their teeth down their throats, which is exactly what they deserve and…
*TINKLE*
Michael Cole climbs aboard the good ship G.M Podium and tells everyone that if any Superstar gets involved in tonight’s 6 on 1 they will be suspended for 30 days, and The Nexus will be governed by tag team rules and if they don’t they will face a 90 day suspension.
Barrett tells Cena it makes no difference as even by sticking to the rules they’ll be able to do him serious damage, and Cena replies by telling him that they might take him out, but he’ll be sure to take a couple of them with him, bringing the segment to a close.
Hmmm, if R-Truth’s shoulder injury is as serious as I’ve been led to believe, there’s a strong chance he could be showing up in the main event to make the save and feeling the wroth of the 90 day ban.
It’d be an easy way to write him out while he recovers, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Also, the crowd were doing the whole ‘WHAT’ thing during Cole’s G.M announcement, I guess they’ve bought into it being Austin already.
Match 1
Divas Match
Alicia Fox
Vs.
Gail Kim
From main event to opening match in the space of a single week for newly crowned Divas Champion Alicia Fox.
And for former champ Eve, who joined the commentary team for this match and generally bitched about how Alicia won the title, while making sure to maintain her face persona.
This was a nothing match, which Alicia won with the worst Scissors Kick I’ve seen in a long while, landing it across Gail’s lower back rather than her neck.
*TINKLE*
As Eve approached the ring after the bell the G.M got in touch and awarded Eve another Divas Championship Match at Money in the Bank, as Alicia feigned injury to win last week.
Wait, last week’s bout was for the title? I hadn’t realised, shows how much I cared.
Two Divas matches on the Money in the Bank card? It’s a good job the MitB matches themselves look unmissable, because I can’t see Eve Vs. Alicia and Lay-Cool Vs. Kelly Kelly selling many PPV buys.
Alicia Fox wins by Pinfall.
Match 2
6-Person Tag Team Match
The Hart Dynasty
Vs.
The Usos & Tamina
Looks like we’re finally getting to see this match.
You may recall this one was set to take place a few weeks ago, but The Hart Dynasty were attacked before the bell and left down and out.
I’m glad that these guys are going to meet again at Money in the Bank, because this match was entirely too short.
In fact I’d have loved these four guys to be involved in Raw’s MitB match itself, but I can understand why the creative team have taken the decision to pack it out with top end talent, as it would have been easy to predict that these guys wouldn’t win it.
Jay Uso picked up the win for his team here with a big Flying Splash.
The Usos & Tamina win by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Barrett Backstage
Behind the scenes Barrett and Jericho are shown chatting.
Barrett thanks Jericho for all his help during NXT Season 1 and tells him that he wouldn’t be where he is now without his Pro’s influence.
Josh Mathews tries to get a word with Jericho afterwards but he refuses to comment and walks off.
The cameras then pan across to Barrett, who has bumped into Yoshi Tatsu.
He calls him ‘the hero from last week’ and questions how tough his is without his friends.
Tatsu tells him that Cena is his friend, but then turns to see the rest of the Nexus behind him.
Otunga buries some knees into his midsection, then Tarver drops him to the floor with a shot across the back of the neck as the segment ends.
Segment 3
Money in the Bank Trust Fund
The Fortunate Son Ted DiBiase makes his way to the ring with the beautiful Maryse on his arm for the next segment.
He talks about the ‘The Million Dollar Couple’ and ‘The Most Powerful Couple in the WWE’, then explains that he isn’t talking about himself and Maryse, but rather himself and the Money in the Bank briefcase.
He appeases Maryse by telling her once he wins he’ll shower her with all sorts of gifts, then gets interruped by John Morrison.
Morrison makes a jibe about French people taking showers, then receives a foreign tirade from Maryse, which he jokingly interprets for her, insulting the crowd with some juvenile comments.
I wonder if they have a writer specifically for Morrison, because ALL his promos are ridiculously childish in comparison to everyone elses.
At first I just thought it was something they’d move him out of, but his promos have been akin to those of Lay-Cool for as long as I can remember, all kiddy insults and schoolyard antics.
With Lay-Cool it kinda feels ironic, with Morrison not so much.
Segment 4
Scraping the Guest Host Barrel
Florence Henderson is tonight’s celeb, and for anyone who doesn’t know who the hell she is, don’t feel too bad, because I wouldn’t have known either had King not explained earlier in the show.
She was the ‘mom’ from The Brady Bunch.
Yup, that’s right.
Tonight’s super special star guest is a woman who hasn’t had a steady role for the best part of 25 years.
She and Santino had a little spot together where they made Brady Bunch quips, until Regal entered and said the appointment of Carol Brady as the G.M was ludicrous.
He said something about The Partridge Family and got a slap from Henderson.
This really was a low ebb, I think I enjoyed the NASCAR guys more than this, and that’s saying something.
I honestly think that had he not tragically passed away a short while ago, they’d have signed Gary Coleman up to Guest Host soon enough.
Although perhaps he would be too popular now, I wonder where the guy who played Willis is these days…
Match 3
Singles Match
Edge
Vs.
Randy Orton
Wow, Pay Per View quality match on Raw?
Something has to happen to either stop this bout happening or cut it short.
They surely aren’t going to give us a match that could easily main event SummerSlam for free are they?
Apparently this is a dual-main event with the Cena Vs. Nexus match, but there’s over half the show to go.
That means either this is going to be an epic encounter, or they’ve got some serious filler to pad the rest of the show out.
It turns out the answer was both.
This match was indeed an epic encounter, but it didn’t last anywhere near long enough in my opinion, I could have happily watched it for twice as long.
The ending of the match came as somewhat of a shock too.
After countering a Spear with a Punt Orton began to set up for the RKO.
Edge avoided this then went for the Spear which also failed to find it’s mark.
After one of his trademark Backbreakers Orton once again began to set up for the RKO, but Jericho stormed out from the back and distracted him, just long enough for Edge to hit the Edge-O-Matic and score the 3.
After the bell Jericho slid into the ring and hit Edge with the CodeBreaker, then got hit with the RKO himself.
Evan Bourne hit the ring next, brawling with Orton before heading to the top for Air Bourne.
However Orton was able to pull out one of the best reversals I’ve ever seen, catching Evan in mid-air to land yet another RKO.
Edge wins by Pinfall.
Segment 5
Skip Sheffield Interviewed
Josh Mathews asked Skip about The Nexus’ appearance on NXT tomorrow, questioning whether they would be focusing on the Rookies, Pro’s or any other aspect of the show.
Sheffield refused to comment, instead purposefully barging into John Morrison.
The Nexus surrounded Morrison and although he managed to beat a couple of them down, he ultimately paid the price.
Sheffield threw him through a set of doors, Heath Slater buried a boot into his ribs and between them they sent him flying over one of those big boxes they have lying around backstage.
Segment 6
Miz and The Money
The Miz is next in the ring to talk about, you guessed it, Money in the Bank.
He ran a video package showing his annihilation of R-Truth last week, then talked about how the damage he did there would pale in comparison to what he does to the other Money in the Bank participants this Sunday.
Because he’s The Miz… and he’s Awe..
*TINKLE*
Michael Cole duly informs the arena that The Miz will now compete against R-Truth’s replacement, as there’s http://wweblog.co.uk/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=5904an old saying ‘Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions’
So the G.M is Roddy Piper now?
I assumed they would be doing the whole famous quotes thing for a few weeks, but I didn’t think they’d find someone I’d like to see G.M LESS than Austin in the second week.
Anyway, Mark Henry appeared from the back and the match got going.
Be the FIRST to know!

Match 4
Singles Match
The Miz
Vs.
Mark Henry
Last week I laid down some G.M possibilities, which I’ve decided to keep hold of and update on a weekly basis.
So, here’s this week’s odds:
Good Ole’ JR – Evens
Abraham Washington – 5/1
Shawn Michaels and/or Triple H – 12/1
Roddy Piper – 15/1
Stone Cold Steve Austin – 18/1
Stephanie McMahon – 30/1
Michael Cole – 50/1
Shane McMahon – 100/1
Mick Foley – 1000/1
and I have to say my money is still on J.R, more out of hope than anything else though.
This match didn’t last long, and didn’t really have a decisive ending as The Miz dodged Henry and he slammed face first into the G.M post, which rather conveniently no longer harboured a pricey laptop.
Afterwards Miz dumped the contents of a nearby trash can Henry’s his back.
Match ends in a No Contest.
Match 5
Singles Match
The Regal Bunch
William Regal, Zack Ryder, Doink the Clown & Primo
Vs.
The Santino Bunch
Santino Marella, Vladimir Kozlov, Goldust & The Great Khali
Guest Ring Announcer : Florence Henderson
Before the match began Florence milked her walk to the ring before hopping in to introduce this joke of a match, but not before ring announcer Justin Roberts had plugged her ‘technology for the elderly’ website.
I’m not even going to waste time on this match, short of saying how much of a waste I think it was for talents like Santino, Regal, Ryder, Goldust and Primo, half of whom I don’t even remember getting into the match.
Hell, even the guy in the Doink mask deserved better than this.
The biggest news here was that Santino finally struck with The Cobra, although it didn’t pick up the win.
That dubious honour went to Khali, who also had the dubious honour of making out with tonight’s guest host after the bell.
If this was meant to be comic relief before the serious main event, I didn’t get it.
The Santino Bunch win by Pinfall.
Segment 7
Edge Interviewed
Backstage Josh Mathews caught up with Edge and asked him for his opinion on what happened after his match tonight.
Edge said he’d like to thank Jericho for the CodeBreaker, which he saw as a wake-up call for the Money in the Bank match, as it made him realise he’d need eyes in the back of his head come Sunday.
He then revealed his secret weapon; a little voice in the back of his head that reminds him that he has no morals, that he should be ruthless, that he’s the ultimate opportunist and that he loves to destroy the lives of other people.
He says that he told this little voice that in 6 days at Money in the Bank, the fun truly begins.
Elsewhere backstage medics are icing up Evan Bourne’s neck when Sheamus appears.
He tells him how lucky he is that it was just Orton who got hold of him.
The Nexus appear and after Sheamus makes an edgy exit, incriminating Bourne in the process, they beat the hell out of him.
Sheamus re-appears afterwards and gloats, until The Nexus crowd back around and send him running scared again, this time in search of Cena.
Main Event Match
6 on 1 Handicap Tag Match
John Cena
Vs.
The Nexus
After commercials The Nexus are in the ring awaiting Cena’s entrance for this main event match.
It was clear from the get-go that the match would follow an obvious pattern, Cena beats down the Nexus members individually in the opposite corner until they finally get the upper hand working as a unit, behind the referee’s back.
Cena did indeed control the match until The Nexus simultaneously dropped from the apron to discuss their gameplan.
As Sheffield re-entered the ring The Nexus distracted the official while Slater sloped around the ring and struck from behind.
From there The Nexus controlled the match with quick tags and a selection of high-impact moves.
Cena regained control and hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle/Attitude Adjustment on Barrett, but failed to notice the blind tag from Sheffield, who quickly regained control and began to hit a finisher-fest on the former WWE Champion, ending in a 450 Splash and a pinfall from Justin Gabriel.
After the match Barrett and Co looked to continue their beat-down, but Cena grabbed a steel chair and sent them scattering from the ring.
After a quick pep-talk The Nexus surrounded the ring and looked to be closing in until Sheamus sprinted to the ring with a steel chair of his own, helping Cena fend off the threat as the show came to an end.
The Nexus win by Pinfall.
