The Raw Review
Segment 1
GM’s Welcome to Raw
Teddy Long and Bret Hart are kicking off the show tonight, by welcoming us all to the very first Viewers Choice edition of Raw.
Bret has explained that you can go to WWE.Com and vote, and Teddy has dropped the bombshell that us humble fans might even influence the fate of the WWE/World Heavyweight Championships.
Are we getting to book a title match I hear you ask? No, is the simple answer.
We’re getting to book matches for the 8 people involved in title matches at Fatal 4 Way.
Teddy moves on to talk about Randy Orton, but The Viper’s music hits and he makes his way to the ring.
Orton tells the GM’s he wants Edge tonight, and if they don’t give him what he wants, he’ll just head to the back and take him out there instead.
Edge emerges at the top of the ramp and tells Bret to give Orton the match, so he can finish him off once and for all.
Teddy suggests something to Bret, and he agrees, saying that he’s going to let the fans in the arena decide if Orton gets the match or not.
The choices Teddy gives the crowd are:
- A debate
- A Sit-ups contest
- A one-arm match
The fans go crazy at the prospect of Edge having his arm tied behind his back and Bret books it, while Edge rants about how unfair it all is.
With Edge gone Teddy brings us our first choice of the night; Jericho Vs. The Big Show.
We get to decide the stipulation, from the following:
- Over the Rope Challenge
- Submission Match
- Body Slam Challenge
Everyone can head over there NOW to vote, and the results will be revealed in a few minutes time!
Match 1
Body Slam Challenge Match
The Big Show
Vs.
Chris Jericho
Oh joy, Matt Striker is on results duty tonight. Come back Coach, all is forgiven!
The results were as follows:
Over the Rope Challenge – 11%
Submission Match – 41%
Body Slam Challenge – 48%
I’m surprised Submission match got such a high percentage, there must be some Jericho fans out there on their pcs.
I haven’t got time to vote, but if I was I’d have gone for the Over the Rope Challenge.
If you’re wondering why all the stipulations kind of favoured Show, it’s because he’s in his home town tonight, so was likely pencilled in for a win regardless.
I’m still not 100% convinced the results we see are legitimate, there have clearly been times in the past where the voting was rigged heavily, although there’s so little on the line with the choices tonight that I’m guessing they might be playing it fair.
Jericho never came close in this one, eventually being drilled with a Body Slam after attempting and failing at the Cross-Body.
After the match Show made Jericho submit and tossed him over the top rope for good measure, winning all three stipulations in one fell swoop.
The Big Show wins by Body Slam/Submission/throwing Jericho Over the Top Rope.
Segment 2
Tag Team Turmoil
Next we can vote for the tag team that gets to face the current champs.
The Uso’s say that if the public vote them in they’ll make it 3 weeks in a row they’ve destroyed The Hart Dynasty.
The Dudebusters say a vote for them will make you feel a bit better.
The Great Khali and Hornswoggle just made noises and lifted their arms up.
Tough decision.
Match 2
Tag Team Match
The Hart Dynasty (w/Natalya)
Vs.
The Great Khali & Hornswoggle
The voting turned out as follows…
The Uso’s -36%
The Dudebusters -10%
The Great Khali & Hornswoggle – 54%
Wow, how unpredictable.
I worry about the WWE Universe sometimes. We could have seen an epic first match between The Usos and The Hart Dynasty, but now we get some nothing gimmick match with two of the most over-rated guys in the WWE taking on the champs for shits and giggles.
This is exactly why parents should set child-guards on their computers, to stop their kids voting for garbage like this.
Things were going well for the newly formed team, until Khali tagged in Hornswoggle.
Swoggle missed the Tadpole Splash and Kidd rolled him up for the victory.
The Uso’s have hit the ring now, but The Hart Dynasty have been able to fend them off at last.
The Hart Dynasty win by Pinfall.
Segment 3
King Me
After the previous match The King declared to Michael Cole that they had a problem, then rather randomly hopped up from the announce position and wandered off.
Cole talked about The Undertaker’s ‘attack’ on Smackdown and Kane’s subsequent rampage, showing footage of Friday’s show.
When the action returned from commercials Justin Roberts introduced tonight’s guest hosts; 3 of the 4 stars of The A Team Movie.
However, only Bradley Cooper emerged from behind the curtain.
He immediately threw a plug in for the movie, announced they have a great show for us tonight, then disappeared.
Backstage The King is wandering around, saying that he’s looking for somebody.
He is then apprehended by Rampage and the guy that plays Murdoch, and they take him into a spare office.
They ask if he wants to hire the A-Team and he says yes, so they remove their disguises and ask him what’s wrong.
The King reveals that someone has swiped his crown, and they promise to get it back with Rampage saying he’s sure he knows who has it.
Outside the office they bump into The Bellas, for some pointless banter about names.
Match 3
Dance Off
Santino Marella
Vs.
Vladimir Kozlov
The voting options and results for this match were as follows:
A Match – 9%
An Arm Wrestling Match – 7%
A Dance Off – 84%
This is getting more ridiculous every second.
Obviously I can’t really convey a dance-off, so I’ll just let you assume how god awful it is.
Surprisingly Kozlov is a fairly accomplished dancer, at least much better than I expected him to be and it’s by far the most entertaining I’ve ever seen him.
Kozlov won by a landslide then did a little ballroom dance with Santino.
However Marella pushed it too far and went for the Dirty Dancing lift, getting shoved to the floor for his troubles.
Vladimir Kozlov wins by busting a move.
Match 4
Divas Battle Royal Match
Participants:
Eve
Kelly Kelly
Jillian
Alicia Fox
Rosa Mendes
Brie Bella
Nikki Bella
Maryse
Michelle McCool
Layla
Tiffany
Gail Kim
The options and results for this match were:
A 6 on 6 Divas Tag Match – 11%
A Divas Battle Royal – 73%
A Champion Vs. Champion Match – 16%
Order of Elimination:
- Rosa Mendes
- Tiffany
- Kelly Kelly
- Alicia Fox
- Gail Kim
- Brie Bella
- Nikki Bella
- Layla
- Michelle McCool
- Eve
- Jillian
Dull and pointless? Of course.
Nice to watch? Of course.
How are we only an hour in? It feels like the show has been going on for an age already!
Maryse wins by Elimination.
Segment 4
Sheamus in the Frame
Sheamus is walking backstage when he bumps into Kane.
Kane tells him that just because he isn’t on Smackdown, that doesn’t rule him out of being a suspect.
He says that if Sheamus was prepared to take Triple H out, then he could have done the same to Taker.
Sheamus said that if he’d done it he’d be crowing it from the rooftops and would have done it in the public eye, and that he doesn’t take kindly to false accusations.
Kane says that he doesn’t take kindly to liars and hopes to see him very soon.
What would you know, the next vote is to pick an opponent for Sheamus!
The options are:
Kane
Mark Henry
Evan Bourne
Match 5
Singles Match
Sheamus
Vs.
Kane
The results were as follows:
Kane – 88%
Mark Henry – 3%
Evan Bourne – 9%
and I’ll put money on that if there wasn’t the segment before the vote leading the audience into voting for Kane, it would have been a lot closer and probably gone to Evan Bourne.
Although it’s not a popular opinion (especially regarding Sheamus) I really like both these guys, so I spent the majority of this match watching the action, which was surprisingly good.
This was an all-out brawl, nothing particularly technical from either man.
The ending was slightly disappointing, as after taking a Chokeslam Sheamus decided living to fight another day would be the wisest choice, exiting up the ramp and gifting Kane the victory by count out.
Kane wins by Count Out.
Segment 5
Wade Barratt Interviewed/A-Team
Backstage one of the generic female interviewers asked Wade Barratt how it felt to win NXT.
He talked about the result never being in doubt and making an impact by accomplishing something that’s never been done in the WWE.
Elsewhere backstage Ted DiBiase and Virgil are discussing the fans right to vote when The A Team enter and quiz him about The King’s Crown.
Rampage and Virgil go face to face until Ted calls in ‘Uncle Irwin’ in to sort things out.
IRS walks in wearing The King’s Crown, and tells some story about how he never paid his back taxes on the jewels in the crown.
Things then turned a bit crazy, with DiBiase and co gassing Rampage and hauling him away.

Match 6
Singles Match
R-Truth & John Morrison
Vs.
The Miz & Zack Ryder
Before the match Truth pandered to the crowd in his usual fashion, explaining that the WWE Universe have picked his tag team partner before revealing yet another set of predictable results:
Christian – 29%
M.V.P – 17%
John Morrison – 54%
Next we got to find out who had been voted in as The Miz’s partner, but only after he emerged and called the WWE Universe idiots for some of the choices they’ve made so far (I kinda have to agree.)
The results were rather pleasingly:
Dolph Ziggler – 38%
William Regal – 17%
Zack Ryder – 45%
although to be fair I’d have been happy with any of those choices as I think they are all capable of putting on a great match, especially alongside The Miz.
Earlier today during a debate I was told that I should show more respect for R-Truth because he’s a champ, and as he’s got a title belt I should automatically like him, as the WWE has put enough faith in him to be a title holder.
Personally I think this is a load of crap. Firstly, Wrestling is all about opinion for me, and part of that is the right to respect other peoples.
I understand some people love R-Truth, I can see why he would appeal to a younger audience and his style is quite watchable. However, I’m still more than entitled to my opinion that he has an awful finisher, he’s been given terrible gimmicks and most of the time he’s completely uninteresting, and I shouldn’t be expected to change that view just because they put the belt on him.
To bring things into focus slightly, Harvey Wippleman once won the Womens Championship. Should I therefore instantly like him because he’s had some gold?
Anyway, back to this match, Miz and Ryder worked very well together which led to a pinfall victory for The Miz over John Morrison.
The Miz & Zack Ryder win by Pinfall.
Segment 6
A Warning for Bret
Backstage Kane caught up with Bret Hart and accused him of attacking Taker.
He said that if Bret was truely seeking closure from his return, he’d have to get some from Taker, and maybe he did that by jumping him and leaving him in a vegetative state.
He warned Bret that he’ll be in trouble if it comes out he had an involvement, then left.
I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t slept now for over 20 hours, if it’s because Raw is particularly dull so far, or a combination of the pair, but I’m struggling to even stay awake right now.
If coverage stops then I’ve fallen asleep at the keyboard and the rest of Raw will be following at some point tomorrow.
Match 7
One Arm Match
Edge
Vs.
Randy Orton
As you can imagine, these one arm bouts are never the most technical encounters.
This one didn’t last long before Edge undid his tied arm and began assaulting Orton in the corner, leading to the disqualification.
Edge tried to hit the Spear after the bell, but Orton delivered a kick instead, saving himself momentarily.
However further around the ring Edge struck with the chair, further damaging Orton’s injured arm/shoulder.
Randy Orton wins by Disqualification.
Segment 7
Cena Interviewed
Cena is talking to Evan Bourne about how he helped him last week when the interviewing lady asked him about not knowing his opponent tonight.
He talked about having enough heart to fight anyone, or something like that.
Meanwhile elsewhere one of the A-Team guys is just waking up from the ‘gas’ when Mean Gene enters.
Gene tells him to live the dream and be a better A-Team than the original, and also calls Josh Mathews useless… while he’s standing right next to him.
Match 8
Singles Match
Drew McIntyre
Vs.
Matt Hardy
The options and results for McIntyre’s opponent were:
Yoshi Tatsu -4%
Goldust -8%
‘Mystery Opponent’ -88%
(The mystery opponent’s silhouette looked an awful lot like suspended Matt Hardy, so naturally he won.)
As Hardy hit the ring McIntyre grabbed a microphone and told the referee to keep him back, while he said that the match wouldn’t take place as Hardy is suspended.
Teddy Long emerges and says that the match WILL happen, as Hardy is only suspended from Smackdown and not Raw.
Another quick bout that saw Hardy pick up a long-awaited win. After the bell he continued to attack McIntyre and even pulled some of his hair out during the vicious attack.
Matt Hardy wins by Pinfall.
Segment 8
Hostage Situation
Backstage Rampage Jackson is just coming round from the gas attack earlier, shackled to a chair.
As he recovers DiBiase, Virgil and IRS enter and tell him that they are going on a little trip to the ring.
After the commercials the action has moved to the ring, where Virgil and IRS are holding Rampage on the ropes.
DiBiase says that everyone has a price, even him and as someone made a call and asked for B.A on a silver platter, he obliged.
He then brings out… Roddy Piper!
For those of you not old enough to remember, Piper had a big rivalry with the Mr. T version of B.A.
Piper says that he silenced Mr. T back in the day, and now he’s got to do it all over again.
He handily slips a few plugs for the A-Team Movie in there, then says that he’s going to do the whole world a favour by beating the mohawk of Mr. Bad Attitude tonight.
Just as Piper is about to strike Dusty Rhodes and Mean Gene wheel down the ramp on a golf cart, with the other guy from The A-Team in tow.
Rampage breaks free of the handcuffs and hits some of his trademark slams, before Gene interviewed The A-Team and Dusty Rhodes in order to get a few more plugs for the film in.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
John Cena
Vs.
C.M Punk (w/The S.E.S)
Before the match and the voting results Josh Mathews asked each of the three candidates why they wanted to face Cena.
Mysterio said that you have to go after the top dog to make an impact in this company, and so he wants to take on The WWE Champion.
Swagger said it made sense to have a Champion Vs. Champion match.
C.M Punk told Mathews that he asks stupid questions, then says the more prominent one would be why should Cena want to face him.
He says that tonight he’ll beat Cena and induct him into the S.E.S.
The results for this match were:
Rey Mysterio – 32%
Jack Swagger -23%
C.M Punk – 45%
I have to admit I’m kind of shocked on that one, as I thought the fans would go for a Face/Face main event with Rey Mysterio.
Again I watched this match as I was quite curious to see if C.M Punk could get a decent match out of Cena.
A rather pleasing ‘You can’t wrestle’ chant picked up quite a lot of support at the start of the bout, but as you’d expect the commentators didn’t make any mention of it.
Cena Sucks is one thing, and they’ll happily acknowledge that as him ‘evoking an emotion from the crowd’, but ‘You can’t wrestle’ is a bit harsh and as such they chose to just ignore it completely.
Gallows and Serena had an impact half way through the match, tripping Cena as he began to build up a head of steam and hit the ropes.
After the final commercial break of the night Cena seemed to be in control and setting up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Cena wriggled out and the match continued.
Just as Cena looked like he was building up to a win Wade Barratt emerged at the top of the ramp and began walking down the ramp.
This caused a big distraction, as Cena tried to work out why he was even there.
Then, ALL the NXT Season 1 Rookies filled the ringside area and after taking out the S.E.S, began to close in on Cena.
Cena went after Barratt, but all 8 Rookies pounced and beat the hell out of him, despite a valiant fight.
The Rookies then turned on the announce team, taking out Matt Striker and King before ripping apart the timekeepers area, the ring, the announce table the mats and anything else they could, while beating the crap out of anyone in their path.
With everything destroyed the Rookies once again focused on Cena, hitting him with a selection of finishers before leaving, their point seemingly proven.
Scenes of the aftermath played for a good 10 minutes after the Rookies had left, with EMT’s checking on everyone while trying to clear some of the debris.
Heel turn for all the NXT Rookies?!
NXT Invasion angle?
Absolutely amazing ending to what had otherwise been a very average episode of Raw.
What does this all mean? I can’t wait to find out!
Match ends in a No Contest.
