    The Raw Review

    Segment 1

    Hidden Agenda

This week’s show kicks off with The Nexus in the ring, awaiting to hear their fate from Raw’s digital General Manager.

Wade Barrett explains how the G.M e-mailed him and told him to assemble The Nexus in the ring at the start of the show so they could learn of the consequences of their actions.

Barrett says he’ll tell everyone the same thing he told the G.M (wait, I thought these e-mails couldn’t be replied to?), their attack on Vince was part of a bigger picture which they can’t reveal at the minute.

He says that Vince thought he was in control of them, but really he had no idea of their real agenda either.

Barrett Passes the microphone to Skip Sheffield, who apparently has something to say about Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat.

He says that unlike the attack on McMahon, the beating they dished out to Steamboat and The Legends was purely for fun and although they won’t admit it, he knows the crowd loved every second of it.

He says that they did Steamboat a favour, as now more people than ever are interested in his DVD.

    *TINKLE*

The G.M’s emails are now accompanied with a little dimming of the lights. Nice touch.

Michael Cole climbs aboard the G.M podium and announces The Nexus’ punishment for their attack on Mr. McMahon.

None of the Nexus are allowed to compete for a WWE title until further notice, and as of this moment the ‘no touching’ rule imposed last week has been lifted.

The crowd seem to know what to expect and sure enough John Cena’s music hits the speakers.

The former WWE Champ appears at the top of the ramp and tells them that despite all the things they’ve done since they arrived on Raw, the only thing they don’t seem to have achieved is get themselves into a fair fight.

Cena brings out Randy Orton, R-Truth, John Morrison, The Hart Dynasty and Evan Bourne, but before they can make it to the ring Sheamus, Edge, The Uso’s, Ted DiBiase, The Miz and Chris Jericho pile out from the back to ‘make the save’.

After the good guys clear the ring Cena demands to know why they interfered.

Sheamus explained that so far the only people they’ve attacked is Cena and Bret Hart, and although they don’t know what the full agenda is, they all support it so far.

Orton takes the microphone and says that although he and Cena aren’t friends, they will be if they HAVE to be.

He says the Nexus are a genuine threat to each and every one of them, then reminds Edge how they attacked them both at Fatal 4 Way.

    Orton lays down a challenge for a 7 on 7 brawl and…

    *TINKLE*

… the general manager quashes the idea, instead telling the Money in the Bank participants that they will square off in a series of matches tonight.

Also, John Cena will step into the ring with Wade Barrett tonight, not for a match but rather to shake hands and make a truce.

Cena says rather than shaking his hand, he’d like to ball up his fist and knock Barrett’s teeth down his throat.

    *TINKLE*

The G.M tells Cena he wants him to be the bigger man tonight, and if he doesn’t then his actions will be met with suitable consequences, and that’s the bottom line, because the G.M said so.

    Interesting eh?

    Match 1

    Singles Match
    John Morrison
    Vs.
    Ted DiBiase (w/Maryse)

Maryse joined the announce team for this match, and I’m guessing King was infinitely grateful that Ted Jnr dropped Virgil in favour of her a few weeks ago.

She slated Cole for calling her a golddigger last week, then explained it was pure coincidence that she loves money and Ted is loaded.

As a very good match rolled on in the ring Maryse took a phone call at the announce desk, talking some French business before jumping up, putting on John Morrison’s jacket and causing just enough of a distraction for DiBiase to hit Dream Street and score the win.

    Very nice opening match.

    Ted DiBiase wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

World War 2 (Without the Nazis)

Santino and Kozlov were shown walking through the back together.

Santino said Italy and Russia being back together was just like World War 2, without the Nazis.

Kozlov told Santino that if they lost tonight he would pound his face in.

    Match 2

    Tag Team Match
    Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov
    Vs.
William Regal & The Great Khali (w/Ranjin Singh)

Before the match Regal told Marella and Kozlov that they’d made him look like an idiot last week, so he’d used his powers of persuasion to recruit a monster in order to gain a measure of revenge.

Santino’s main involvement in this match was going for the Cobra, which he failed to hit, and Khali didn’t even get in the match before Regal got planted with The Iron Curtain.

After the bell Khali jumped into the ring and demanded Kozlov and Santino stand Regal up, so he could drill him with a Chop to the head.

Speaking of chops, we received word from the WWEBlog Informant this week.

Apparently he wasn’t too happy about being upstaged in the Smackdown Summary last week, and has fired back with a selection of juicy news items, of which this is the first:

WWE Management have taken the decision to ban all Superstars from performing Chest Chops.

The reasoning for this is that each and every single time a Chest Chop is delivered, the attending audience (and many of the fans watching at home I’ll bet) let out a huge ‘Woooo’ in reference to the most famous chopper in the game; Ric Flair.

It seems WWE top brass are hell bent on cutting out any reference to their past past when it involves rival promotion TNA, so don’t be surprised if Matt HARDY soon has to change his surname, or more likely gets the chop.

Stick around for more gossip, hot off the press!

    -The Informant

Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov win by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    Arn Anderson Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews asks one of the greats of the business, Double A, for a status update on Ricky Steamboat following last week’s brutal attack by the Nexus.

He begins to give an answer when Sheamus shows up.

Sheamus tells Arn that he used to be an enforcer, but now he’s just a washed up old man.

Arn tells Sheamus he can’t see what is happening to the company, then pleads with him to consider the threat of the Nexus.

Sheamus says the Nexus are smarter than to attack him, but Arn warns him that he needs to start worrying about the entire company rather than himself, and he’d do well to side with guys like Cena and Orton until the situation is resolved.

Sheamus reiterates the fact that he doesn’t need anyone and Anderson eventually walks away, telling The Celtic Warrior that he just doesn’t get it.

    Match 3

    Singles Match
    R-Truth
    Vs.
    The Miz

The Miz decided to rip off R-Truth’s rapping again.

I love The Miz, but this didn’t really do him any favours.

However, when he smacked R-Truth in the head with the microphone, then beat the living hell out of him on the outside, he earned all the respect points his rap had lost him.

The Miz spent a good few minutes working on Truth’s left arm, and the match never actually got started.

Once again, it’s time for another bit of breaking news from the WWEBlog Informant:

While The Miz may have focused on R-Truth’s shoulder in this part of the show, the real problems were going on in the rapping grappler’s baggy pants.

You see, Truth actually has a groin injury, which the medical staff now believe to be worse than they initially diagnosed and took this opportunity to pull him from the Money in the Bank match.

There’s a slim chance Truth will be able to make it to the PPV in some guise, perhaps to gain revenge over The Miz, but if he does show up there’s very little chance he’ll be doing anything high risk.

    -The Informant

As medical staff helped R-Truth to the back The Miz crowed about how ‘The Truth Hurts’ and everyone else in the Money in the Bank match should take notice.

    Match ends in a No-Contest.

    Segment 4

The Cutting Edge with Jericho & Bourne

As with Christian’s Peep Show on Smackdown, the ring is littered with ladders for this edition of The Cutting Edge.

Before bringing his guests down Edge says that he lets what The Nexus did to him slide, offers to be their leader then talks about the importance of winning the Money in the Bank match, reminding everyone that he’s done it twice and neither of his guests have even managed to snatch the briefcase once.

Edge goes to introduce Evan Bourne, but gets Chris Jericho in his wrestling attire instead.

Jericho tells Edge that he doesn’t take a back-seat to anyone and accuses Edge of pandering to The Nexus, before reminding The Rated R Superstar that HE was Barrett’s mentor on NXT and would therefore be the Superstar that they chose as an advisor.

Edge questions why they would go to someone who could barely beat Evan Bourne, and Jericho accuses Edge of spending his whole career wanting to be Chris Jericho.

Both guys argue about how they are going to win Money in the Bank and cash in to take the title before Edge eventually strikes and the pair end up in a physical rather than vocal brawl.

Evan Bourne finally enters the fray and after dropping Jericho, ducks and dodges about avoiding their strikes.

    *TINKLE*

The G.M asks the crowd (via Michael Cole) ‘if you want to see some action, give me a hell yeah’ and when they duly respond he books a tag team match to start right now.

    Match 4

    Tag Team Match
    Edge & Chris Jericho
    Vs.
    Evan Bourne & Randy Orton

I really hope all this Stone Cold stuff is a red herring.

Austin has been in positions of power way too many times for it to be shocking or enjoyable, and truth be told I’m getting kind of sick of him just showing up every few months.

I really doubt it’ll turn out to be Stone Cold, as it seems pretty stupid to make the G.M anonymous only for him to practically reveal himself a couple of weeks later.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t start coming out with Rock or DX quotes next week.

At the minute I have the main candidates as follows:

    Good Ole’ JR – Evens

    Triple H – 5/1

    Shawn Michaels – 12/1

    Stephanie McMahon – 30/1

    Shane McMahon – 100/1

    Mick Foley – 1000/1

(You’ve got to have an outsider!)

Speaking of surprise comebacks, here’s the final chunk of hot gossip from the WWEBlog Informant (at least for tonight’s show):

Sunday August 15th the Staples Centre in L.A will host the WWE’s #2 PPV of the year; Summerslam.

Why do I mention this, you ask? Well rumour has it that this is the date the guys behind the scenes are pencilling in for Triple H’s comeback.

Whether The Game will show up on Raw a few weeks beforehand still isn’t known, but it’s almost a dead cert that upon his return he’ll be focused on Sheamus, so expect the Celtic Warrior to be buzzing around the WWE Championship picture for the next couple of months regardless of whether he drops the belt to Cena at Money in the Bank.

And Triple H isn’t the only one being written in for a SummerSlam return, but more on that during this week’s Smackdown Summary!

    - The Informant

This match seemed to go on for absolutely ages, but thankfully it was very entertaining and I found myself struggling to keep my eyes off it and write.

After working fairly well together for the majority of the match, former tag champs Jericho and Edge finally imploded as The Rated R Superstar Speared his own partner, gifting Evan Bourne the chance to hit Air Bourne and grab the 3.

However, theirs was not the only team to end sourly, as Randy Orton delivered an RKO to his partner out of nowhere shortly after the bell.

Evan Bourne & Randy Orton win by Pinfall.

    Segment 5

    Orton & The Nexus

Backstage Randy Orton bumps into Nexus member David Otunga, flanked by Heath Slater and Michael Tarver.

They tell him that they don’t have any problem with him and what they did was purely a shot at WWE Management.

They apologise and give Orton their word that they won’t interfere in Raw’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but there’s every chance they might get involved after the cage match, and if the person who claims the Money in the Bank briefcase is ‘at war’ with them, they can make sure the title doesn’t change hands regardless of contracts.

They ask Orton to consider this next time Cena tries to recruit him to his little posse and Orton says he’ll take it into consideration, then demands they get out of his face.

    Segment 6

    The Uso’s Interviewed

Josh Mathews announces that at Money in the Bank the Tag Titles will be on the line, then introduces the #1 contenders; The Uso’s, accompanied by Tamina.

Jimmy bets Jay that Mathews won’t be able to tell them apart, and he can’t.

Tamina clears things up and points out which is which, saying Mathews is ignorant just like The Hart Dynasty, but at Money in the Bank they’ll set that straight by winning the gold.

After The Uso’s leave Alicia Fox shows up and complains about not having any interview time since winning the title.

She asks if it’s because no one cares about what she has to say, or if no one cares about the Divas championship (and a fairly loud ‘yes’ seemed to resonate from the crowd both times), then tells Josh her win at Fatal 4 Way was not a fluke and she’ll prove that next.

    Main Event Match

    Divas Match
    Eve
    Vs.
    Alicia Fox

Thankfully this was a quick bit of filler.

The bottom line here, seeing as we’re doing Austin quotes tonight, is that Alicia feigned an ankle injury, then struck when Eve least expected it, grabbing the 1..2..3 out of nowhere.

The most depressing thing about this is that this was given the main event. Seriously.

    Alicia Fox wins by Pinfall.

    Closing Segment

    Kiss and Make Up

Barrett is first out and he once again reiterates that Cena was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and none of the attacks he suffered were personal.

He asks Cena to come to the ring so they can shake hands and put it all behind them like men.

Once Cena gets to the ring Barrett assures him that he is no longer in their future plans, and he’d like to shake hands on behalf of his faction.

He tells Cena that The Nexus 7 are going to be around for a long time and they can either make life very easy, or very difficult for him depending on what decision he makes.

Cena asks Barrett for his word that if they shake hands right now all the sneak attacks, the devastation and destruction stops, then goes to shake his hand.

However, Cena pulls his hand away and starts babbling about the future before telling Barrett to take everything he’s just said and shove it up his ass.

He says that he’ll take down the entire Nexus, whether it be by himself or with help.

Barrett says the fact that Cena is still standing in the ring is a testament to the fact they have been kind to him so far, then warns him that if he doesn’t shake hands he will face severe consequences.

After careful consideration Cena shakes Barrett’s hand, then pulls him in and sets up for the Attitude Adjustment.

Before he can hit it the rest of The Nexus hit the ring and a brawl ensues.

Bourne and Morrison hit the ring initially, then Mark Henry’s music hits and he sprints to the ring with the cavalry, consisting of Goldust, The Great Khali, Vladimir Kozlov, Yoshi Tatsu, The Hart Dynasty and Santino Marella.

The good guys clear the ring and run The Nexus off up the ramp, leaving just Darren Young in the ring.

    *TINKLE*

The G.M’s email says that he wanted peace, and if things don’t stop now there will be severe consequences.

After a moment of consideration Cena locks the STF on Young.

    *TINKLE*

This time the G.M unleashes his wrath, booking Cena in a 7 on 1 match against The Nexus next week!

After absorbing the news Cena is the next to unleash wrath, beating the hell out of Darren Young and seething with rage as the show came to a close.
