Main Event: Lucky Cannon Vs. Alex Riley
Closing Segment: Rookie Challenge
Segment 1
Earlier Today…
Before the show even began properly we were treated to a clip of Matt Striker demonstrating tonight’s Rookie Challenge; The Obstacle Course.
The obstacle course is made up of:
- A tyre run
- 3 boards to jump over, getting gradually larger in size
- A square where Rookies are required to do 10 press ups
- A balance beam
- A heavy crate to push up the ramp
Striker finished in 41.5 seconds and looked completely exhausted, while Josh Mathews and Michael Cole talked about how surprised they were to see him not fall on his face.
Segment 2
The V.I.P Lounge
Clearly annoyed at how last week’s ‘Showtime’ segment went, M.V.P has his own talk show bit tonight to interview Percy Watson in order to address what happened.
Percy ‘Oh Yeah!’s his way to the ring, where M.V.P tells him that although his actions last week were not courageous, gutsy or spirited, it did show a lot of initiative.
He tells Watson that they are actually a lot alike, and the M.V.P that first showed up on Smackdown a few years ago would have done exactly the same thing, but he’s learned since then.
He asks Watson if he’s learned anything from last week and his Rookie apologises for his actions, saying he has learned his lesson and he respects his coach immensely for everything he’s been shown.
Matt Striker emerges from the back and asks M.V.P why Watson should be ranked #1 in next week’s Poll.
M.V.P says that his Rookie has the whole package, then asks the crowd what they think.
A selection of booing and cheering comes back. I’d have been in the cheering section.
Watson talks briefly about why he should be #1 until Striker cuts him off.
However, moments later Striker gets a taste of his own medicine when Cody Rhodes and Husky Harris appear to interrupt him.
Cody tries his best to put Harris over, but to be honest he’s fighting a losing battle.
Harris says that the WWE has been full of body-builders for too long and it’s time for ‘the army tank with a ferarri engine’ to have his time.
Boy they are really pushing that catchphrase, and it’s just as awful as Harris is on the mic.
He says that he’s not a ‘miniature midget ninja’ (seriously, he actually said that) and claimed to be ‘real’. M.V.P slapped him down with the comeback ‘Yeah, real… fat.’, leading to the first match.
Match 1
Tag Team Match
M.V.P & Percy Watson
Vs.
Cody Rhodes & Husky Harris
I’m surprised the obstacle course wasn’t up first to be honest, given that it’s set up around the ring already.
The Pro’s have taken their seats at the top of the ramp during the break, and are as always watching closely in preparation for next week’s Poll.
Upshot is that someone in the WWE must be holding a torch for Husky Harris, because he scored the win over M.V.P here with a Senton, after Cody Rhodes had done the damage with the flying kick that he continually used at Money in the Bank.
After the match Michael Cole said claimed that this was a very important win for Harris with the Poll coming up, then Josh Mathews rather laughably suggested he could earn immunity tonight by winning the obstacle course.
If Husky Harris wins the obstacle course tonight I will personally eat my 300-strong WWE DVD Collection.
Cody Rhodes & Husky Harris win by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Singles Match
Lucky Cannon
Vs.
Alex Riley (w/The Miz)
Before the match Striker asked Cannon and Riley respectively why they should be top of next week’s Poll.
Lucky Cannon (who is without his pro after last night’s devastating loss to Wade Barrett) bleated on about how thankful he was to the fans for letting him into their world as a wrestler, and how much fun he was having doing so.
Alex Riley told the fans that they should vote for him if they cared about the future of the company, then The Miz told them they should do as he says because he’s a future WWE Champion.
Alex Riley picked up the win in what was tantamount to a squash match, furthering his image as the favourite and possibly crushing any flickering hope that Lucky Cannon had.
After the match The Miz returned to the ring and drilled Cannon with his Money in the Bank briefcase, before slamming his head onto it with the Skull Crushing Finale.
Alex Riley wins by Pinfall.
Closing Segment
Rookie Challenge
Before the challenge began Matt Striker gave the remaining Rookie/Pro combinations the chance to stake their case for the #1 spot in the Poll.
John Morrison claimed that Eli Cottonwood is very watchable, and big Eli said he was the most intimidating member of the NXT roster, forcing Matt Striker into voting for him.
Lay-Cool said that Kaval is almost flawless and he said if the fans want to see him go against the likes of Evan Bourne, Randy Orton or Rey Mysterio they should keep him in the competition.
Finally it’s almost time for the Obstacle Course Challenge, but first is Michael McGillicutty’s turn to explain why he should be top of the Poll.
Kofi Kingston plays on his 2nd generation status and says that the fans are his ‘McGillibuddies’.
McGillicutty says he is the ‘perfect’ choice for them to vote for.
He’s first up on the obstacle course and finishes it in an impressive 26.7 seconds, setting the time to beat.
Alex Riley runs next and after falling off the balance beam finished in 40.3, blaming the referee afterwards for his poor time.
Eli Cottonwood fell over two of the three boards, failed to properly do 10 push-ups and then fell off the balance beam, getting disqualified when he refused to go back.
Lucky Cannon came very close to beating McGillicutty, but came in a few seconds short at 28.2.
Kaval did brilliantly well until he got to the heavy crate, which cost him dear as he posted a time of 29.1.
Percy Watson didn’t seem to put much effort in and finished in 31.05, I guess he’s had his victory for the season already.
Finally Husky Harris stepped up to the plate.
He started pretty quickly, but as he got up to the third board he stopped, then shoulder tackled the thing over.
He eventually set a time of 50.3 seconds making Michael McGillicutty the winner, but more importantly preserving the un-eaten status of my DVD collection.
McGillicutty is immune next week and voting is now officially open on WWE.Com.
We suggest a vote for Percy Watson!
