    The NXT Episode – 7th September 2010

    The NXT Episode Divas Banner

    07/09/2010
    Season 3

Hello and welcome the NXT Episode and indeed the third Season of NXT!

Anyone reading last week’s Season 2 Finale would have noticed I wasn’t exactly pleased that Season 3 was an all-Diva affair, but being the open minded guy I am (and given that I couldn’t find anyone else who would take on this burden) I’ve decided to give it a go.

So, it’s with a tentative vibe that I say… On with the show!

    Quick Links

    Segment 1: Introduction

    Segment 2: Rookie Diva Challenge

Match 1: Alicia & Maxine Vs. Kelly & Naomi

    Segment 3: Another Rookie Challenge

Main Event: Goldust & Aksana Vs. Primo & A.J.

WWE NXT Season 3 Diva Rookies and Pros Line Up Preview

    Segment 1

    Introduction

First three pieces of big news before we even get started here.

Firstly the excellent ‘Wild and Young’ by American Bang has been replaced as the NXT theme, by Kevin Rudolph’s ‘You Make the Rain Fall’.

Seems like an expensive theme for a show that’s only expected to last 4 weeks, but more on that later.

Secondly, there are only 6 Rookie/Pro combinations, and thirdly it looks like the gigantic Aloisia, probably the only Diva announced last week that was even half way interesting, has been axed from the show already, as Vickie Guerrero’s Rookie was all silhouetted out on the title video.

Good news for fans of Matt Striker, as he’s retained his role of compère.

He introduces the Pros, who in turn introduce their respective Rookies.

Vickie emerged last screeching ‘excuse me’, then explained how she’d fired Aloisia for failing to show her respect.

She then brought out Kaitlyn, her new Rookie.

Kaitlyn’s hot and could well have just become my favourite in this contest, although picking a favourite here is like picking your favourite form of execution.

Basically I’ve gone for the lethal injection and avoided hanging, electrocution and gassing.

Striker tells them they are about to embark on a 3-month journey (god I hope not, more on that later) that will see one of them crowned the newest WWE Diva in the company.

He trotted out the ‘Smart, Sexy, Powerful’ line and said they would be judged on these three things during the competition, then gave them a chance to introduce themselves to the WWE Universe.

Kaitlyn went first and said she’s not just the girl next door, then babbled on about exploding people’s mailboxes, giving wedgies to people she’d just kissed and being crowned prom queen and class clown in the same night.

Damn, looks like I’ve accidentally selected beheading or something.

Just as Aksana is about to do her thing, Vickie Guerrero piped up and cut her off, telling Kaitlyn she had to do it again because it was poor.

The second time she rather sarcastically said she was really excited to be Vickie’s Rookie, which seemed to please her Pro and the show was allowed to carry on.

Aksana instantly fell into the Kozlov-trap, calling the company ‘Double Double Eee’.

She described herself as a ‘million dollar baby’ from Lithuania, then described herself in the third person, broke off into her native language and then pleased her Pro by saying gold and black were her favourite colours.

Maxine, who I assumed was meant to be a heel, started her segment by asking what the hell Aksana had just said, drawing cheers from the crowd.

She soon had them turning on her however, claiming to have Business, Street and Common sense; something the average person is lucky to have even one of.

She says she’s a ‘Triple Threat in a Skirt’ and claims the only position for her in the WWE is at the top.

A.J. took the microphone next and talked about how they are all witnessing her dream come true, while Michael Cole talked over the top of the whole thing.

It looks like Captain Cole has a new target for Season 3, despite selecting her as a favourite just minutes earlier.

Next up Jamie, the god-awful ring announcer turned NXT Rookie.

She gave off a slightly narcissistic heelish vibe, but the crowd didn’t seem to give a crap either way.

Last but not least Naomi stepped up to the plate wearing a quite frankly ridiculous cat suit.

She babbled on, then said as actions speak louder than words she isn’t going to babble, and is going to prove herself in the ring.

The crowd seem to have lost interest almost completely already.

    Segment 2

    Rookie Diva Challenge

After commercials Matt Striker takes control of the first Rookie Challenge, and would you believe it, it’s a Divas Dance Challenge.

I haven’t any solid evidence to suggest it, but in the coming weeks I expect a Bikini contest, pillow fight and maybe even water fight, because that’s all women are good for in the world of WWE.

Striker tells everyone that in just 4 short weeks the first elimination may take place, but as promised a couple of times I shall now throw things over to the WWEBlog Informant, as he has evidence to suggest otherwise.

    Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all enjoying this new Divas NXT as much as I am so far (and I also hope you’re good at detecting the sarcasm there), but we really shouldn’t be getting too attached to it when the whole show is on shaky ground.

Matt Striker has been keen to impress the length of the competition tonight (3 months) and how soon the first elimination will take place (in 4 weeks) but I can reveal that there’s every chance the whole show may get eliminated before then.

NXT took over the ECW slot mid-way through the SyFy contract, and everything seemed hunky-dory, but two seasons on it looks like the network won’t be renewing, partially due to the fact they now have Smackdown, and this leaves the WWE with a big headache.

At the minute it’s not known if any other networks are interested but with just 4 weeks left on SyFy, and a NXT specific website in the offing, the general expectation is it’ll either be an internet exclusive from episode 6 onwards, or integrated into Raw/Smackdown/Superstars or all three.

    -The Informant

Anyway, back in the ring Matt Striker decides the ladies need a dance partner and chooses Michael Cole, who has seemingly come prepared in leg warmers, ballerina slippers and a hat, which Josh Mathews points out looks a lot like Lederhosen.

Cole dances with Naomi and Jamie, then gets the hook in favour of Tony Chimmel, who busts a few moves with A.J. and Maxine.

Finally Josh Mathews gets the call, eagerly sliding into the ring to slow-dance with Aksana and dance badly with Kaitlyn (under her instruction I might add.)

Unsurprisingly Naomi, being a professional dancer, picked up the win in this highly biased challenge.

Strangely Jamie and Aksana got booed horrifically, as did Michael Cole, which was slightly less surprising.

    Match 1

    Tag Team Match
    Alicia Fox & Maxine
    Vs.
    Kelly Kelly & Naomi

This wasn’t a bad first match for either Diva until the climax, which was a huge botch job and seemed to confuse the hell out of pretty much everyone in the arena, including the commentary team and the women in the ring.

Naomi rolled Maxine up pretty poorly, over-doing it to the point that the on-rushing Alicia Fox wasn’t able to break it up and the referee counted the 3.

After a clear 3 count and Kelly’s music, Naomi and Maxine continued the match, with Naomi hitting a supplex and covering again, only rolling off when the referee told her she’d actually already won.

Both girls blew a few things, but then so did Alicia and Kelly so it’s hard to judge them that harshly.

Kelly Kelly & Naomi win by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    Another Rookie Challenge

That’s right, despite there being much scope for Rookie challenges, we’re having two in one night here, and this one looks pretty dangerous to be honest.

Scattered through the arena are posts with flags hung on them, the Rookies have to sprint to them in order, snatching a flag from each.

The catch? There’s 1 less flag on each post, meaning only 1 Diva can prevail with all the flags.

Nearly all of them jumped the gun and had to be brought back from the first one, and it was Jamie who failed even the most basic task of running down the ramp and jumping to grab a flag.

The next post was over the barricade, and claimed A.J. who was last over the wall.

Next another straight run through the crowd, which saw the end of Aksana.

Back over the barricade to ringside for the next one, and although Maxine took a tumble and ate the wall face first, she still managed to grab a flag before Kaitlyn.

Finally a slide into the ring saw Naomi claim the final flag and win the second challenge of the night.

Apparently the person with the most challenge victories leading into he first vote gets immunity, and it looks like Naomi is well on the way.

    Main Event Match

    Mixed Tag Team Match
    Goldust & Aksana
    Vs.
    Primo & A.J.

Before this match we were again treated to a preview of John Cena’s latest movie; Legendary, and this led to possibly the greatest bit of spin I’ve ever seen in the WWE, and perhaps in the world.

Josh Mathews and Michael Cole explained that only ‘a select few cinemas’ had the ‘privilege’ of showing Legendary and fans that were able to see it would be in the ‘elite few’.

In other words only a handful of cinemas across the whole U.S would carry this garbage film, and if you pay good money to go and see it you’ll be in the elite group of people with too much time on your hands.

This match didn’t run too long, so I can’t tell you THAT much about either of the Rookies here, but lets just say their time in the ring wasn’t the most fluid thing I’ve ever seen and between them they managed to botch the finish and had to re-do it.

On the plus side when they did re-do it, it looked very good.

After the match Vickie Guerrero emerged with her usual screech, dragging her Rookie to the ring with her.

She tells the WWE Universe she wants to take this time to let Kaitlyn do her introduction once more.

Primo asks Vickie why she’s out here interrupting A.J’s big moment, and eventually A.J. tells her to go away, at which point Vickie demands Kaitlyn ‘sic her’.

Kaitlyn jumps at A.J. but quickly gets bowled into Vickie, sending her flying and embarrassing her as the show drew to a close.

Primo & A.J. win by Pinfall.
