The ECW Digest – 15th September 2009
15/09/2009
Hello and welcome the all new ECW Digest.
We’re sticking with the new look for now as we’ve had some pretty positive feedback.
We’d still love to know what you think about the changes so please feel free to get in touch via the Contact Us page, or any of the usual email addresses.
(By the way, the banners are purely temporary. We kind of rushed this idea through at the last minute and didn’t have time to get anything a bit better made.)
On with the show!

Opening Segment
Tiffany Makes an Announcement
ECW G.M Tiffany kicks off the show.
Once in the ring she begins to talk about how proud she was of the ECW Title match and that she had an announcement about tonight’s main event.
William Regal and his two enforcers interrupted and made their way to the ring.
Once there Regal apologised for the interruption and began ass-kissing, saying Tiffany looked exceptionally beautiful tonight and that she’s doing a wonderful job as G.M.
He then went on to explain that as a former G.M himself, he felt the need to come out and talk to her about what happened at Breaking Point; specifically the ejection of Kozlov & Jackson.
Regal asked Tiffany why she felt the need to ban these two talented Superstars from ringside for the ECW Title match. She said it was because she wanted to make sure the match was a 1 on 1 bout with no outside interference.
Regal calls her decision ‘rash’ and says it caused him unnecessary grief in preparation for the title match, so he thinks she should give him another ECW title shot.
Tiffany says that a good G.M gives a range of Superstars a shot at the title, so he won’t be getting another shot at the ECW Championship.
Instead tonight’s main event will be a Battle Royal to determine the new #1 contender, which Jackson & Kozlov will be a part of… but Regal won’t.
Tiffany then told him that he’ll be participating in a match right now against The Hurricane.
Opening Match
Singles Match
The Hurricane
Vs.
William Regal
Regal, still in his street clothes (if you can call a waistcoat, shirt, black trousers and black shoes ‘street clothes’) began on the back foot, with The Hurricane making the most of the surprise element of this match.
After being subjected to a couple of near falls, Regal decided leaving would be the best option but The Hurricane refused to let him, chasing Regal up the ramp and bringing him back to the ring.
However, this turned out to be his downfall, as Regal was able to pick up the 3 count by hitting the Knee Trembler as The Hurricane climbed back through the ropes.
After the bell Paul Burchill appeared through the crowd and jumped The Hurricane, beating him down to continue their rivalry.
William Regal wins by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Goldust Apologises to Tatsu
Backstage Goldust apologises to Yoshi Tatsu for the way they lost their tag match last week.
As he goes to leave Tatsu requests that Goldust continues to teach him English.
After a comedy moment where Tatsu replicated Goldust’s tourettes ticks during a sentence, Zack Ryder entered and asked Tatsu if he could say ‘loser’.
Goldust told Tatsu to say ‘loser’ just as they practised and he did; saying ‘Zack Ryder’ instead.
Ryder flipped and said they would see who the joke was when they faced each other next.
After the commercials one of the new backstage interviewers caught up with Burchill, who said he still plans on exposing The Hurricane for the fraud that he is, especially after what he did to his sister last week.
Match 2
Singles Match
Zack Ryder
Vs.
Yoshi Tatsu
Nikki and Brie were the special ring announcers for this match, it’s nice that they are still finding things for them to do when they aren’t switch-a-roo’ing to beat divas with twice their talent.
Tatsu and Ryder started fairly slowly considering the usual pace they both have in the ring. Tatsu got out of the blocks quicker than his opponent, executing a rarely seen Dragon Roll.
It didn’t take long for Ryder to turn the tables though, knocking Tatsu from the second rope then focusing on his head which had hit the canvas pretty hard.
Tatsu eventually battled back and hit a huge Roaring Elbow, then after some back and forth landed a Huricanrana which finally removed Ryder’s headband but could only grab a 2 count.
Ryder mounted yet another comeback but it wasn’t enough and Tatsu picked up the win with a Tajiri-style Kick to the head.
Yoshi Tatsu wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
#1 Contender Battle Royal Match
Participants:
Shelton Benjamin
Ezekiel Jackson
Vladimir Kozlov
Tommy Dreamer
Goldust
Tyler Reks
Sheamus
Yoshi Tatsu
Paul Burchill
Zack Ryder
I’d like to see Sheamus or Zack Ryder pick up the victory here but I assume they’ll give the win to either Kozlov or Jackson.
Order of Elimination:
- Paul Burchill (eliminated by Shelton Benjamin)
- Tyler Reks (eliminated by Vladimir Kozlov)
- Yoshi Tatsu (eliminated by Ezekiel Jackson)
- Sheamus (eliminated by Shelton Benjamin)
- Ezekiel Jackson (eliminated by Shelton Benjamin)
- Shelton Benjamin (eliminated by the already eliminated Sheamus)
- Goldust (eliminated by Zack Ryder)
- Vladimir Kozlov (eliminated by Tommy Dreamer)
- Tommy Dreamer (eliminated by Zack Ryder)
The best thing about this match was that it was given the time to run. So often in battle royal’s there will be 7 or 8 eliminations in the first minute or two, then the last few participants will battle it out.
Not in this case. All the ‘younger’ guys who didn’t really stand a chance of winning did get the chance to show what they could do and weren’t just treated as fodder for the bigger guys.
At one point about half way through the match it looked like Kozlov and Jackson might go at it, but instead they continued to work as a team
After Sheamus eliminated Benjamin after already being eliminated himself, the two brawled up the ramp and built up what looks like a promising rivalry between the pair.
Goldust was clearly the fans choice to win this one and when Ryder eliminated him the boo’s were immense.
I was pleased to see Ryder pick up the victory, he’s come a long way since he debuted as one of the ‘Edge-Heads’ and as much as I like Christian, I personally hope they give him a run with the title.
Zack Ryder wins and becomes the #1 contender for the ECW Championship.
