    The ECW Digest

    Segment 1

    Tiffany’s Farewell Address?

Tonight’s show kicks off backstage, where it appears the entire ECW roster has gathered for an announcement by Tiffany.

She says that ECW going off-air is actually a good thing, as they are all free agents and they will be making way for nXt, the next generation of WWE.

She thanks them for all their hard work and dedication then tells them to just have fun, before grabbing a margarita and heading off to celebrate Mardi Gras and the Saints winning the Superbowl.

    Match 1

Unified Tag Team Championships #1 Contendership Match
    Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust
    Vs.
    Trent Barretta & Caylen Croft

The winners of this match will apparently get a tag title shot on the last ever episode of ECW next week.

However given the push ShowMiz seem to be in line for, I expect the most the victors here will win is the chance to job to them next week.

ECW’s demise seems to be coming at a rather strange time. The fact it’s before WrestleMania seems slightly strange, but even moreso is that it’s happening next week, meaning there will be an episode of nXt before No Way Out.

Perhaps one of the ‘free agents’ will make some sort of impact at No Way Out, only time will tell.

In what was actually a long and eventful match Goldust & Tatsu all but ensured a ShowMiz win on next week’s show by picking up a pinfall tonight.

Croft (or was it Barretta?) ended the match with a busted up face, but it didn’t look too serious.

It was nice to see a touch of claret on ECW, something that the WWE incarnation severely lacked in comparison to the original.

Yoshi Tatsu & Goldust win by Pinfall and become #1 contenders for the Unified Tag Team Championships.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    Ezekiel Jackson (w/ William Regal)
    Vs.
    Perry Wallace

As The Miz would say; ‘Reeeeeeeeeally?’

Two episodes of ECW left, coming off the heels of a non-feud with Boring-imir Kozlov and Ezekiel Jackson is facing ‘local talent’ again?!

I couldn’t find anything about Wallace, but then I didn’t have much time to.

Jackson destroyed him and finished him off with the ‘Book of Ezekiel’. At last that modified Enziguri has a name!

After the bell Regal hopped up in the ring and began singing the praises of his powerhouse protege.

He complains of how he was ejected from ringside at The Royal Rumble then says if Tiffany wants to be remembered as a good General Manager she’ll book a re-match for next week.

Jackson grabs the microphone and says that if Christian accepts, both his title reign and ECW will come to an end next week, and that he will be a worthy final ECW Champion.

Wait, so the title gets disbanded next week with the show? Then who the hell cares?

    Ezekiel Jackson wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    Christian on ECW

Backstage current ECW Champion Christian talks about the challenge posed by Regal and Jackson.

He accepts the title match next week and suggests they end ECW with a bang like they should be; Extreme Rulez!

Well, I’m all for that, as long as it’s not toned down.

    Main Event Match

    No Disqualification Match
    Shelton Benjamin
    Vs.
    Vance Archer

This rivalry got stale pretty quick, but hopefully the No DQ aspect of this match can keep me interested.

Before the match Shelton talks about how initially he wasn’t happy about being traded to ECW because he felt that as The Gold Standard he was above it.

However, after losing in about 10 seconds to Yoshi Tatsu on his first night he realised that there were some great athletes on the brand who earn respect from him each and every week.

He says he’s going to miss each and every Superstar backstage, with one exception; Vance Archer.

Benjamin calls him a backstabber and says that he hopes his last ECW moment will be wiping the smug smile off his face tonight.

Archer dominated in the early going, beating Benjamin down in the corner.

However, The Gold Standard fought back and locked in a Half Crab, which he kept cinched in even after Archer made it to the ropes, thanks to the no disqualification nature of the match.

After a commercial break the hardware began to come into play, with Kendo Sticks and Steel Chairs being wielded about by both Superstars.

During the battle on the outside Shelton got busted wide open on the announce table and after a few more shots in the ring Scott ‘Controversy’ Armstrong halted the match while he got some medical attention.

Man I wish they’d lose the PG-13 thing, these days the slightest drop of blood and the EMT’s are there with some glue.

This was sadly about as good as things got as far as the no-dq ruling goes.

Benjamin eventually picked up the victory with PayDirt, to put away Archer and hopefully end their rivalry.

See you next week for the FINAL ECW episode ever!

    Shelton Benjamin wins by Pinfall.
