The ECW Digest
Opening Segment
Worse for Wear
After highlights of last week’s ECW Championship match and the subsequent attack by Regal’s Round Table, Christian makes his way rather gingerly to the ring.
Once there he cuts straight to the point and demands Regal come down to the ring right now. When Regal no-shows Christian says he is going to head backstage and look for him, only to be intercepted by ECW GM Tiffany.
She tells Christian that Regal’s actions were due to her not giving him a title match, so as she caused it she wants to be the one to put it right.
Christian says that Regal has disrespected Tiffany ever since he arrived in the land of extreme and it’s about time someone set him straight.
Tiffany begs Christian to reconsider and tells him this is exactly what Regal wants, but the ECW Champ refuses to back down and tells her to make it happen.
Regal finally puts in an appearance, walking out onto the entrance ramp with his two flunkies.
He asks Christian why he should give him what he wants when he holds all the cards, then asks if he wants a match so badly that he’d put the ECW Championship on the line.
Christian answers yes without hesitation, then after Tiffany says they both have scheduled matches, tells her to reschedule them.
Tiffany seems to agree to this and asks Regal if he wants a title match tonight, but he refuses, instead demanding a title match next week when ECW is in England.
Christian agrees and Tiffany makes the match, with the stipulation that Jackson and Kozlov are banned from ringside.
As Regal makes his way to the ring for his scheduled match Christian attacks him with a Dropkick through the ropes.
Match 1
Singles Match
William Regal
Vs.
Goldust
Two of the current ECW roster’s most experienced names face off here in what now appears to be a tune up match for Mr. Regal.
Just speculating on next week’s title match, I wouldn’t put it past Regal to take the title over here in the UK, even without the help of Kozlov & Jackson.
Regal has form with winning titles in his home country, claiming the Intercontinental Championship from Santino Marella around this time last year.
As for this match, it didn’t run anywhere near as long as I’d have liked it to, but what there was of it was fun to watch.
Goldust looked to have the match under control, but Regal hit the Knee Trembler out of the blue and picked up the 3 count.
William Regal wins by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Zack and Rosa
Backstage Zack Ryder is checking himself out in a mirror when Rosa Mendes walks up to him and begins to talk about guest announcing his match tonight.
As she is talking Ryder zones out and begins to visualise her standing in front of him, just not speaking.
Back in the real world she touches him on the arm and he euphemistically squirts hair gel out of the bottle he’s holding.
Match 2
Singles Match
Zack Ryder
Vs.
Shelton Benjamin
Before the match Rosa tells the crowd how much she loves being a member of the ECW roster, then says that she is nervous but has been practising her ring announcing all day and has gotten pretty good at it.
She introduces both participants without a hitch and the match gets underway.
This was a pretty good back and forth contest, both Superstars looked impressive and further proved why they are kinda wasted on ECW.
Ryder looked to be in control of the match, until he got distracted by Rosa and seconds later caught a PayDirt to lose the match.
Rosa didn’t seem to concerned by the fact she had caused a distraction, and announced Shelton as the winner.
Shelton Benjamin wins by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Paul Burchill & The Hurricane…Again
After a cheap plug for WWE.Com, Paul Burchill and Katie-Lea are standing in the ring.
Speaking of cheap plugs, have you checked out the latest edition of the Weekly Informer? It’s packed full of behind the scenes gossip, including news on Hulk Hogan’s return to the ring.
Anyway, back in the ring Burchill calls out his current rival and The Hurricane makes his way down the ramp, still clutching his Hurri-Cane.
Burchill tells Hurricane that Halloween is over, but the green one bites back by saying for some people Halloween lasts all year round, using Katie Lea as an example.
Burchill questions why all the ‘mindless soul-less fools’ in the audience look up to The Hurricane while, when he is clearly the better athlete and has better values.
Hurricane says that it is partially down to the fact he doesn’t refer to them as ‘mindless soul-less freaks’, but maybe it’s because they just like to have fun like he does.
Burchill makes a proposition; one more match with an unmasking/loser leaves ECW stipulation.
The Hurricane accepts the proposition. It looks like The Burchills might be getting a move to one of the bigger brands in the next few weeks.
Segment 4
Washington Isn’t Happy
Elsewhere backstage Abraham Washington and Tony Atlas are discussing last week’s edition of their show, when William Regal trashed the set.
Washington complains about how he’s lost his rental deposit and says that Tiffany should buy them a whole new set seeing as the whole incident was her fault.
Just as they go to enter Tiffany’s office a new Superstar emerges, gives them a piercing look and walks away.
Tiffany walks out a few moments later and explains that he is ECW’s newest Superstar; Vance Archer.
Apparently he’s intense.
Match 3
Singles Match
Vance Archer
Vs.
Logan Jones
Boy they’re really cramming in the content tonight.
Logan Jones, as you might have guessed, is yet more ‘Local Talent’.
He got a pretty big pop from his home town crowd and had there not been the segment prior to this, I’d have picked Archer as the jobber.
As usual I couldn’t locate any information about Jones, but I didn’t have much time to do so as Archer picked up a very quick victory with a Reverse DDT.
He tried to make it look flashy, but it’s just a Reverse DDT.
Vance Archer wins by Pinfall.
Main Event Match
Tag Team Match
Christian & Yoshi Tatsu
Vs.
Ezekiel Jackson & Vladimir Kozlov
The tag team of Jackson and Kozlov really have a way of making me not care about a match.
Actually, Vladimir Kozlov has a way of making me not care about a match, I quite like Ezekiel Jackson.
I’d have much rather seen a title match between Christian and Regal, but had to settle for a luke warm brawl between these four guys.
Christian picked up the win with a KillSwitch on Kozlov, after Tatsu had taken out Jackson on the outside.
After the bell Regal hit the ring and battled with Christian before Jackson struck from behind and a 3 on 1 beating ensued.
After wrapping Christian around the ring post Regal locked in the Regal Stretch, leaving the ECW Champion down and out 7 days before the title match between the two.
Christian & Yoshi Tatsu win by Pinfall.
