    The Informant Interview

Merry Christmas everyone and well done for locating this WWEBlog Christmas present!

As promised by The Informant last week, here is the interview everyone has been waiting for!

The Informant was kind enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule and sit down with me (via the medium of Windows Live Messenger, to protect his identity) to answer a few probing questions.

He’s certainly tight lipped, but I did my best!

    Enjoy!

    The WWEBlog Informant Interview

    JayD says:

First things first, why did you decide to bring your considerable talents to WWEBlog?

    The Informant says:

Having been a fan of the wrestling industry for many a year, I decided it was only fair to contribute to a worthy cause and put my ‘connections’ to good use.

    JayD says:

You mentioned your ‘connections’ there, would you care to elaborate?

    The Informant says:

    Absolutely not!

These connections (not only within the WWE, but the wrestling world in general) have been built up over time with the solid foundations of respect and trust.

I don’t mind spilling the beans, but I can’t say whose beans, if you catch my drift.

    JayD says:

I see. You also mentioned a deep involvement in the Wrestling Industry, when did you become interested in Wrestling and why?

    The Informant says:

I first started watching wrestling in the late 80′s, when the mix of celebrities and action started to really take hold and capture the imagination.

I did a bit of amateur wrestling not long after that before moving over to the pro side, spending time around the indys.

I can’t tell you more than that or I’d be putting my anonymity at risk, in fact I might have said too much already.

    JayD says:

Moving swiftly on, you clearly know your stuff, but what would you class as your all time favourite match?

    The Informant says:

    Oh man, one match?

    Too tough to call.

The key to a good match is the telling of a story in the ring, listening to the crowd and performing a work of art with effortless ease.

Classics such as Savage/Steamboat Wrestlemania 3,  Hart/Bulldog Summerslam ’92, Hart/Michaels Wrestlemania 12, Undertaker/Mankind King Of The Ring 98 and The Rock/Steve Austin Wrestlemania 17 are all great examples of storytelling at their finest.

To pick one would be too hard.

    JayD says:

How about all time favourite Wrestler? I heard on the grapevine it might be Leif Cassidy, is there any truth to that rumour?

    The Informant says:

Oh you’re really putting me on the spot here!

Another one that’s really too tough to call.

Technically Bret Hart. In terms of strength British Bulldog. Agility, the Undertaker.

    I could go on.

As far as Leif Cassidy goes,I doubt any of his personas would make my top 100, you shouldn’t trust rumours…

    JayD says:

I guess my detective skills aren’t quite on the same level as yours.

In the few short months of its existence The Weekly Informant has become tremendously popular, drawing readers to the site in droves.

Did you expect it would become such an instant hit?

    The Informant says:

Well, I never knew of its popularity until you just said, but I’m not really surprised to be honest.

Rumours as on the money as mine are bound to attract attention, and nowadays the main interest in 90% of matches is regarding how it ends.

Being able to reveal the ending before the beginning is a great skill to possess and the fact is I’m damn good at it.

    JayD says:

You often seem quite cocky, as we’ve just seen demonstrated there. Do you ever worry that you’ll come across too full of yourself and set yourself up for a fall?

    The Informant says:

    I never fall.

I set myself high benchmarks and I always meet them.

Instead of Hulk Rules, it should be the Informant Rules!

    JayD says:

Have you ever come across a rumour that you’ve thought too ridiculous to report?

    The Informant says:

A contact of mine told me about Shane McMahon leaving WWE, but I didn’t believe him.

That was to my cost and a rare blunder for the old Informant.

    JayD says:

Interesting. Which rumour/prediction/piece of news are you most proud of?

    The Informant says:

I débuted on the fantastic WWEBlog a few months ago with news that The Hitman could be returning to the WWE to work an angle with Vince McMahon and possibly even Shawn Michaels.

This still awaits confirmation, but Im pretty sure of my sources.

Another rumour awaiting fruition is a Ted Dibiase face turn, I’m hopeful on both counts.

    JayD says:

Although I shouldn’t really say anything, I can exclusively reveal that your Bret Hart news has won you the WWEBloggy Writers Award for Prediction of the Year, so congratulations!

    The Informant says:

I’m honoured, but to be brutally honest I expected nothing less.

Bret teaming up with a real life arch-rival peer to work under a real life arch-rival boss was bound to raise a few eyebrows.

Personally if it does all come off as currently planned, it should be fantastic for the business, and provide a spectacle at the next WrestleMania, thats for sure.

    JayD says:

There has been a lot of speculation that we are one and the same person, and that I cooked up the ‘Informant’ persona to increase interest in the site.

To be honest the very idea that I’d have time to write up all the weeks shows, orchestrate the ‘behind the scenes’ business AND dig up the hottest gossip on the net makes me laugh no end.

    What’s your view on this?

    The Informant says:

It makes me laugh no end too and I’d like to put it to bed here and now.

No offence to you, but you don’t have the contacts I have, and that’s the key to bringing stories with such substance.

Guys like Mick Foley might have made a living out of having numerous personas, but the bottom line is that there is only one Informant, and he doesn’t share personalities!

    JayD says:

Thanks once again for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview.

I think we’d better wrap things up now, but is there any chance you can end with a bang and reveal a rumour for 2010?

    The Informant says:

Message to Vince: Beware the competition.

TNA is going to gather steam this next year, and although the Monday Night Wars are a long way off, old wrestlers joining new companies is a proven winning formula.

    Did someone say Scott Hall?

    The Interview was my pleasure.

I’m going to retire to my study with a glass of brandy and a good book now, but rest assured I shall be returning in early 2010 with a bumper edition of The Weekly Informer, to spread the Informant word!
