Royal Rumble 2010 Live Results!
Hey guys and welcome to WWEBlog’s Live coverage of The Royal Rumble 2010!
Tonight is kind of special for us, but we’ll explain more on that at the end!
Match 1
ECW Championship Match
Christian (c)
Vs.
Ezekiel Jackson (w/William Regal)
As I expected we’re starting with the ECW Championship match.
Jackson looks pumped tonight and the 3 man commentary team of King, Cole and Striker made a lot of how Christian has held the title for over 6 months now.
It could be a long night for Captain Charisma.
Jackson has started this match in complete control. Christian’s complete offence so far has consisted of two slaps, which just seemed to anger the giant.
Regal tries to make his presence felt as Christian rolls to the outside, but the referee sees what he’s up to and ejects him from ringside.
It looks like Jackson’s got it all to do on his own now.
Jackson gets the first near-fall of the night, but Christian just about gets his shoulder up.
Still little to no offence for the ECW Champ, who just attempted a Sunset Flip and ended up taking a 2 handed Chokeslam.
Three more slaps from Christian, but Jackson retaliates with the best Clothesline I’ve seen in a long time to the back of the head, gaining another 2 count.
The momentum finally shifts as Jackson goes for a Superplex only to be thrown from the ropes and hit with a Flying Shouken.
KillSwitch!.. No, Jackson escapes!
Christian goes for the diving Headbutt… but tastes nothing but canvas!
Clothesline straight afterwards from Jackson, 1..2.. Christian kicks out.
Jackson goes for his finisher, but Christian reverses.
Fulcrum Prison Blues! I notice no one ever calls it that any more.
Jump Swinging DDT from the second rope for Christian… 1..2.. kick out.
Jackson has Christian on his shoulder now, driving his back into the turnbuckle.
KillSwitch!
1..2..3!
Jackson looked completely in control there, but somehow Christian pulled yet another victory out of the bag.
No sign of Kozlov either which is quite surprising.
Christian retains the ECW Championship by Pinfall.
Segment 1
Cryme Tyme Rumble
Teddy and Tiffany are sat backstage when Cryme Tyme enter.
They say that only one of them can enter the Rumble and it’s not right, so they want Teddy to give them someone else’s spot.
Teddy tells them that they can flip a coin like last year, but they say they’ve already found someone who will give them their spot.
Khali enters and they tell him that if he gives them his spot, he can kiss Tiffany.
Just as he is about to take the deal, Runjin Singh enters and stops the deal.
They do some random stuff regarding ‘Family Matters’ (something I’m not familiar with at all) when The Miz enters.
He says in five years time no one will remember any of them, but they will remember him winning the Rumble.
Teddy tells Miz that this isn’t Raw and there are no guest hosts, so tonight he will defend his U.S title against M.V.P… Next!
We’ve got an impromptu title match!
Segment 2
Dissension in the Ranks?
Elsewhere backstage Randy Orton is sitting in his dressing room when Cody Rhodes enters.
Cody tells him that Legacy have been through too much to throw it away and he supports Orton 100%, and knows that he’ll reclaim the title from Sheamus.
Randy thanks him, then Cody says he wishes he could say the same for Ted.
Cody says that ever since The Marine 2 Ted has been different, and all he’s been talking about is winning the Rumble and beating Randy at WrestleMania.
Orton doesn’t look too happy but Cody re-assures him by saying DiBiase will probably get it out of his system tonight and they can go back to being a solid unit again.
Match 2
United States Championship Match
The Miz (c)
Vs.
M.V.P
Hmm I wonder why this match wasn’t advertised prior to the event.
Probably because no one really cares if M.V.P gets a shot at a title he first won like 4 years ago or something. So much for progression…
Interestingly The Miz got a few cheers at the start of this match, and M.V.P got a healthy smattering of boo’s. It seems people might finally be getting tired of him.
This one started with some back and forth, but M.V.P seems to be getting the upper hand now.
I guess we can rule both these guys out of winning The Rumble now huh?
Ballin’! M.V.P sets up for The Playmaker but The Miz escapes, only to be hit with a huge Yakuza kick and covered for a 2 count.
Another near fall for M.V.P after a Shoulder Tackle.
Miz avoids the Drive By, then M.V.P avoids the Skull Crushing Finale.
Pinfall-fest, with 3 near-falls for M.V.P in the space of about 10 seconds, the action spills to the outside…
M.V.P rolls Miz into the ring and climbs through the rope, but The Miz rolls him up! 1..2..3!
Miz has stolen one!
Miz gets up in the face of M.V.P, who kicks him in the gut and hits him with the Playmaker out of frustration.
The Miz retains the United States Championship by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Jeri-Show Reunite?
Show is walking backstage when he passes by Jericho.
Jericho says hello and stops him in his track.
Show asks Jericho if he’s jealous because he said that he had more chemistry with The Miz.
Jericho asks how he can get along with someone as cocky and arrogant as The Miz, who is blatantly using him for his own ends.
Jericho says they were the best Tag Team ever and should it come down to them and The Miz in the ring tonight, he knows Show will do the right thing.
Show says the only person he’ll be looking out for is himself, and if that situation arises he’ll throw both of them over the top rope.
R-Truth appears and says that if Show doesn’t, he will.
Jericho says that if he wants to throw him out, he’ll have to go through Show first, but then realises that he is nowhere to be seen.
Truth tells him that it’s every man for themselves tonight and Jericho tells him that he WILL be going to WrestleMania as Rumble winner.
Segment 4
More Dissension in the Ranks?
Randy Orton has left his dressing room and looks to be making his way to the ring when he bumps into Ted DiBiase.
Ted wishes him good luck for tonight and says that Cody has been acting weird, saying he’s going to win the Rumble and go on to beat Sheamus at WrestleMania.
He tells Orton he can count on him tonight if he needs him, but The Viper tells him that he wants no help from either of them.
Match 3
WWE Championship Match
Sheamus (c)
Vs.
Randy Orton
It’s hard to know what to make of this match.
It’s not had an awful lot of build-up and with both guys being roundly hated by the WWE Universe, the crowd seems kind of dead.
Sheamus seems the early favourite to garner the support of the crowd, with a ‘Lets Go Sheamus’ chant breaking out in the early going.
Orton spent the first five minutes or so working over Sheamus’ knee, leaving the Celtic Warrior visibly limping, something that might become the ‘back-story’ of this match.
Sheamus battles back and delivers some damaging Shoulder Thrusts in the corner, but Orton escapes and goes right back to the knee, wrapping it first across the apron and then around the ring-post.
The fickle attending audience have now broken out into a ‘Orton’ chant, and after a back and forth slugfest where every Orton shot was cheered and every Sheamus bomb was booed, I’d say it’s safe to say who they are now rooting for.
Sheamus goes for the Celtic Cross but Orton slides off his back and knocks the Irishman to the outside with a kick to the temple.
Sheamus goes to crawl back inside but Orton catches him and hits the Rope-Assisted DDT!
1..2.. Sheamus grabs the ropes! The match continues, but only just.
Orton begins to stalk Sheamus, setting him up for The Punt…
Sheamus wisely rolls to the outside, where Orton follows him.
Cody Rhodes appears out of nowhere! He hits Sheamus in the back in full view of the official!
The official reprimands Cody, while behind his back Orton hits the RKO!
Orton covers…. but the referee is still asking Cody what he was thinking.
He finally turns around and… rings the bell for a disqualification!
Rhodes looks shocked and makes his way into the ring to try and explain himself.
Orton is steaming, the crowd are cheering for an RKO.
After a long staredown Orton drills Rhodes and begins to beat the hell out of him.
DiBiase hits the ring to try and calm things down, but Orton levels him too.
As Orton focuses on beating down his former running buddies Sheamus gets back to his feet behind him.
Pump Kick! Sheamus leaves Orton down and out, but where does this leave Legacy?
Sheamus retains the WWE Championship by Disqualification.
Match 4
WWE Womens Championship Match
Michelle McCool
Vs.
Mickie James
Oh god, how did this get so high up the card.
I appreciate they are trying to push the Divas division, but when the build up has been possibly the most juvenile, distasteful load of crap I can remember in a very long time, it doesn’t really warrant a place between the two Heavyweight championship matches.
Oh god, Michelle’s got a microphone, it looks like we’re in for even more of it.
Michelle says she’s just about to give everyone what they paid to see; her defending her title.
Hmm, I doubt there’s 100 people out there who paid $50 specifically because of this match.
Michelle says that Mickie is nowhere to be seen then cracks a few more fat jokes, before Layla emerges once again in a ridiculous fat suit and a pig nose.
Once again Matt Striker laughs like a mad-man at this blatantly unfunny segment.
Finally the real Mickie emerges and makes light work of Layla, before sliding into the ring to start the match.
DDT! 1..2..3!
Well, that’s about the best I could have asked for, a 10 second title match.
Looks like GRuz was right, months of humiliation = big time revenge tonight.
After the bell a selection of Divas emerge carrying a huge cake, which Mickie then dumps all over the former champion and her buddy.
I hope to god this is the end of it.
No Beth Phoenix either, that’s interesting.
Mickie James wins by Pinfall and becomes the NEW WWE Womens Champion.
Match 5
WWE Heavyweight Championship Match
Singles Match
The Undertaker (c)
Vs.
Rey Mysterio
We’re getting close to the big one now!
I don’t like Rey’s chances in this one. If any of the big 3 titles were going to change hands tonight, I expected it to be the WWE Championship.
Don’t worry folks, I’m still here. Taker’s entrance is taking forever, I’ll update again when the match begins.
So the match is under way at last and so far it’s been all about The Deadman, who seems to be attacking with a vicious streak, manhandling his smaller opponent both in and out of the ring.
Taker goes for a Chokeslam but Rey reverses into a 619 position!
Taker catches it and sets up for a Tombstone! But Mysterio batters him with knees before he can deliver the devastating finisher.
Rey mounts a little bit of offence but Undertaker flattens him with a trio of Big Boots (one inside, two outside the ring) asserting his dominance once more.
However, as he goes for a fourth, Mysterio moves out of the way and he wraps his leg around the ring-post.
Mysterio takes advantage of the situation and hits a Baseball slide to the hip.
Taker goes for the Last Ride on the outside, but Rey grabs the ropes and hits a Moonsault off the apron, busting The Deadman’s nose.
Momentum swings again as Taker slams Mysterio into the guard rail, before working over his arm and ribs back in the ring.
King says he can’t believe we’re seeing blood from The Undertaker, but to be honest I can’t believe we’re seeing blood full stop. I’m surprised one of the EMT’s hasn’t hit the ringside area to plug it up.
Mysterio starts to build some offence and Drops the Dime, but Taker kicks out and the match continues.
Last Ride coming….
Mysterio counters out and drops Taker on the ropes…
6..1..9!
Dropkick into the other ropes…
6..1..9!
Mysterio goes for the West Coast Pop…
LAST RIDE!
Oh my what a Last Ride as well, he must have been 10ft in the air! 1..2..3!
The Deadman has done it! Battered, Bloodied, but still the World Heavyweight Champion!
The Undertaker retains the World Heavyweight Championship by Pinfall.
Segment 5
Kane Issues a Warning
Backstage Shawn Michaels is watching the aftermath of the previous match when Kane approaches him.
He tells him that his obsession with his brother is unhealthy and as the only person to face Taker at 2 WrestleMania’s, he assures him that going after The Deadman and the streak will bring nothing but darkness.
Kane leaves and Triple H enters.
They wish each other good luck and Michaels says he was selfish for wanting The Game to give up his shot at Mania.
Just as Trips goes to leave Michaels drags him back and tells him that his re-match is meant to be.
The Game tells him he knows that, which is why he knows he’ll find another way.

Key Moments
After eliminating both opening competitors just seconds after hitting the ring Serena handed Punk a microphone and he began preaching.
He said that the WWE Universe could be saved, but his sermon was cut short by JTG, who evidently won the coin toss with partner Shad Gaspard.
However, he made light work of him and continued with what he had to say, which was basically that certain people don’t have what it takes to win the Rumble, just like some members of the audience don’t have what it takes to be saved.
Khali interrupted what he was saying and despite his best attempts, he couldn’t talk the big man around and instead tasted a huge chop and the Vice Grip.
Beth Phoenix used her womanly ways to eliminate Khali, kissing him before dragging him over the top rope. She then tasted a GTS from C.M Punk.
Punk initially looked like he was going to talk Ryder around, but then instead drilled him with the microphone and tossed him over the ropes, continuing with his sermon.
As much as I like Punk, this has to end soon, and with the entry of Triple H, I think it just might.
Triple H ends Punk’s domination and the match gets back to the traditional Rumble formula.
Triple H cleans Morrison’s clock just as Kane emerges from the back, talk about no allies in the Rumble.
Kane hits the ring and immediately does major damage, knocking everyone to the ground multiple times without actually eliminating anyone.
No big surprises so far and a lot of the ‘empty’ spaces have been taken already.
As M.V.P made his way to the ring The Miz emerged and drilled him in the back of the head with the U.S Championship. Looks like another wasted number there.
Carlito goes on a Backstabber rampage, but as with Kane, fails to convert any of them into eliminations.
The Miz hit the ring and caught Carlito with a Skull Crushing Finale, but M.V.P followed shortly afterwards and eliminated him, going over himself in the process.
Another quickfire double as Hardy hits the ring! Kane knocks Hardy from the top to the outside, then almost immediately gets dumped over the ropes himself by Triple H.
HBK cleaned house as soon as he hit the ring, eliminating all but his partner Triple H in a matter of seconds.
Just when it looked like DX might go, Cena hit the ring and business picked up.
Double 5 Knuckle Shuffle, followed by a Pedigree on Cena, followed by a Sweet Chin Music on Triple H which sends him flying over the rope rope!
One of the favourites is out, but there are plenty more to come.
Shawn very nearly gets eliminated by Cena, but he skins the cat and wraps his legs around Show’s head, who drags him back into the action.
Henry and Show clashed a few moments later ending with The World’s Strongest Man hitting a gigantic Powerslam that looked easy for the big guy.
5 entrants left and no surprises yet.
Make that 4 as Jack Swagger hits the ring and immediately takes down Cena, Michaels and R-Truth, before very nearly eliminating Shawn Michaels.
Kingston’s in at 27 and as my pick of DiBiase is long gone, the reputation of WWEBlog now lies squarely on GRuz’s shoulders.
Jericho’s in and there are 2 spots left! Could Edge be one of them?
Kingston’s gone to a raucous boo from the crowd.
EDGE! EDGE IS HERE!
Spears all round as the crowd go crazy!
So we only got one surprise, and it wasn’t a huge surprise, but it was still great!
Edge doesn’t look like he had too much time to get back into fighting shape, but he still looks as sharp as ever.
We’re down to 4, but will it be Michaels, Cena, Batista or Edge who heads to WrestleMania as the #1 contender?
HBK hits Batista and Cena with Sweet Chin Music, before getting thrown over the top rope by Edge.
The two battle on the apron before HBK Sweet Chin’s the Rated R Superstar BACK into the ring.
Batista capitalises and smashes HBK in the back, sending him to the floor.
Michaels is gone.
Shawn goes a little bit crazy on the outside and throws an official into the announce table.
He slides back inside and hits the other referee (mini naich) with a Sweet Chin, before wandering up the ramp, looking shell shocked.
We’re down to three.
Cena low bridges Batista who sails over the top, we’re down to 2.
Edge sets up for the Spear, he’s calling for it! Cena turns around…
Cena avoids it!
Cena goes to throw Edge over the top rope… but Edge reverses!
Cena hits the floor!
Edge has done it! Edge wins the Royal Rumble! He’s heading to WrestleMania!!
Edge wins the Royal Rumble.
The End Bit
Well thanks for joining us tonight guys!
It’s been a very solid event, and although I was a little disappointed with the lack of BIG surprises in the rumble, Edge winning it was enough of a surprise to keep me interested.
What title will he challenge for? Will he be heel or face? Will Jericho take a title so they can meet at Mania?
Aside from the show, I mentioned at the start that tonight was rather a special night for WWEBlog. Well, that’s because The Rumble marks our 1st Birthday!
So can I offer a huge thank you to all the people who have visited us over the past 12 months, all the people who have got in touch and all the great guys and girls who have put in the hard graft behind the scenes.
Here’s to 2010, when we will hopefully improve on what has been a very successful first year.
Goodnight everyone!
JayD (On behalf of the WWEBlog Team)
