Over the Limit 2010 Previews and Predictions
Now to the changes!
Regular readers will have noticed that we have established a link with Smark Out Moment this past week and we’re putting it to good use almost instantly with a cross-site Previews and Predictions article.
Owner of Smark Out Moment, Anthony Mango’s comments will be preceded by the rather fetching A.M: while my views will be identifiable by a nice big J.D:.
With that covered, let’s get this show on the road!
Grudge Match
Singles Match
R-Truth
Vs.
Ted DiBiase
A.M: Even though I’m not generally a fan of R-Truth, I’m enjoying this feud quite a bit. DiBiase isn’t quite there yet but this feud is already giving him a much better character and it makes perfect sense to use someone like R-Truth, an older veteran, as a stepping stone in the process. Truth will most likely get the win in a pretty decent, but not long nor particularly interesting match, so as to continue the feud.
J.D: I agree with you to some extent, in that I don’t like R-Truth either (as regular readers will probably know) but I’m perfectly happy to see him used to further someone else’s far more promising career.
I think this’ll be enjoyable, but it still probably ties with the Divas match as a toilet/snack grabbing opportunity.
Divas Championship Match
Divas Match
Eve (c)
Vs.
Maryse
J.D: Speaking of which, this is certainly my least favourite match on the card, but I fully expect it to be shoved right between the Heavyweight and WWE Championship matches.
Why they incessantly push the Divas so high up the card when all they do is flatten the atmosphere is beyond me.
To summarise, Maryse is great, Eve is awful, I don’t care where the title goes and I’ll be hitting the Red Bull just to get through this one.
A.M: Not only do I agree that it’s the least appealing match on the card and that Eve is awful, but I too will be looking out for this to be a road bump in the momentum of the PPV.
Even though they book these before the main events as time wasters that are only a few minutes long, they still interrupt the flow, and I’d much rather do without them, but I suppose I would rather see a match from the women’s division as opposed to yet another Raw Rewind or video package about how much work they do with the Make a Wish foundation.
Eve just won the title so I doubt they’re taking it off her especially with heel champs on Smackdown, so with a foregone conclusion on top of all that, this offers nothing to me.
Grudge Match
Hair Vs. Lifestyle Match
C.M Punk
Vs.
Rey Mysterio
A.M: I am so sick and tired of seeing these two together.
I don’t care anymore about Punk losing his hair nor Rey joining the S.E.S., I just don’t want to see the same promos and matches between them on my screen.
They’ve had numerous matches, all of which making Rey seem better than Punk, so I would like to see him get the win here, but that would mean the feud continues, so as a mercy killing, I’m hoping Rey just wins, shaves Punk’s head, and they move on their separate ways.
J.D: I have mixed feelings on this one.
As I said in my official preview, the result here seems almost too obvious, as while as Anthony says Rey has been dominant in the ring, Punk has really had the better of this in terms of results and sneak attacks by the ‘mystery man’.
I would LOVE to see Rey join the S.E.S, but only if he was to turn heel in the process, if it in any way furthers the rivalry then I agree I don’t want it to continue.
Punk’s getting his head shaved, and hopefully we’ll get to see who the mystery man is. I’m almost sure it was Skip Sheffield at first, but whether they’ll change it due to his face being partially revealed I’m not sure.
Grudge Match
Singles Match
Edge
Vs.
Randy Orton
J.D: We’ve talked about this before and I’m sure we both agree that this has come around way too fast.
This should have been a slow-burner leading up to SummerSlam (if SummerSlam even exists any more with all the naming changes), perhaps with a tense team between the two.
Yeah I know it’s been done a million times, but this rivalry doesn’t seem to have any substance, at least for me anyway.
A.M: It’s definitely much too early to pull the Orton/Edge card, which could have easily been the main event at next year’s WrestleMania but now has been forced to sprint towards a match with virtually no build, which will unfortunately cause it to suffer some.
These two have what it takes to pull off a great feud but right now, it’s running on fumes in my mind, which is the total opposite of what should happen seeing as how this is only the beginning. Let’s hope it picks up some steam.
Intercontinental Championship Match
Singles Match
Kofi Kingston
Vs.
Drew McIntyre (c)
A.M: I, for one, do not see what is so special about Drew McIntyre.
I feel he’s bland on the mic, bland in the ring, and has been pushed too strongly for what he’s worth (similar in all regards to Sheamus).
Therefore, I’m hoping very much so that Kofi Kingston wins the title here as I’ve grown very tired of Drew’s lacklustre title reign.
I don’t expect it to happen, though, as they seem to be protecting Drew from losses for some reason.
While this could potentially be a good match, I’m not expecting it to be anything we shouldn’t already be able to see any given night on Smackdown, especially seeing as how Drew will once again walk out unharmed.
J.D: I think this is where our location starts to have an influence and in this case it’s caused us to disagree.
I personally like McIntyre and Sheamus, but my views are clearly clouded by the fact that they come from (relatively close to) where I live.
I prefer Wade Barrett and William Regal to both of them, as they are closer still to my home-town, which probably proves my initial point.
As for the match, I think it’ll give McIntyre a chance to shine, it just depends if he steps up and takes it.
Kingston deserves the title for the brilliant match against Christian on Smackdown, which I personally think should have been saved for the PPV, but I also doubt he’ll get it.
Not yet anyway.
Unified Tag Team Championships Match
Tag Team Match
The Hart Dynasty (c)
Vs.
The Miz & Chris Jericho
J.D: If this goes any other way than a Hart Dynasty win I’ll have to seriously consider why I even bother to watch WWE any more.
Smith and Kidd have been a breath of fresh air to a dismal tag division, even back when they were heels, and to use them as transitional champions would be an unneccassary slap in the face.
Jericho and Miz have no future for me, as I think one or even both of them will go on to face Cena for the title in the next few months.
Hart Dynasty win all the way for me.
A.M: Seeing as how we just got over essentially a year long tag title reign between the Miz and Jericho, interconnected by the Big Show, I’d be severely shocked and disappointed if they were to win the titles from the Hart Dynasty.
Jericho is a bona fide main eventer and the Miz has reached a point where he has his fingertips on that plateau, so to downgrade them to the tag division for a while would only hurt them and the Hart Dynasty.
This should be a good match and I’m hoping Jericho takes the pinfall seeing as how the Miz just lost his United States championship and shouldn’t be the fall-guy twice in a row.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Singles Match
Jack Swagger (c)
Vs.
The Big Show
A.M: When Swagger first came in the WWE, I was one of his detractors.
Eventually, he won me over enough to where I considered him a good choice for a midcard title. When Sheamus received his main event push, I actually was angered that Swagger didn’t get that spot instead.
Now that Swagger has become a world champion, I think he’s doing a great job.
A win over Big Show isn’t going to mean much, but it will help solidify him as more than just a transitional fluke champion. I’m hoping this feud only lasts until Fatal Four-Way as I don’t think Big Show’s limitations are going to offer anything to Swagger after one or two matches, but with Show fresh as a face and Swagger fresh as a champ, I’m into this. Swagger retains.
J.D: I admit I was incredibly sceptical of this match when it was first announced a few weeks back on Smackdown.
But, with Show inexplicably turning face and Swagger drawing more heat from the crowd than I can remember anyone getting for literally years (albeit by boring them stupid), I now think that it has some potential.
There’s no way it will be as technical as Swagger’s matches usually are, but it should be interesting none the less and will lead into a Fatal 4 Way bout, perhaps including Punk and Mysterio (although hopefully not.)
WWE Championship Match
I Quit Match
John Cena (c)
Vs.
Batista
J.D: Yawn, here we go again.
What is it with Cena rivalries? Why do they always feel the need to drag them out well past their ‘use by’ date?
Batista/Cena was ruined the first time when they rushed it through for SummerSlam and put two faces against each other, but this time has been worse in many respects, as it’s been the same thing over, and over, and over, and over… you get the idea.
I’m past caring who wins, I just like the stipulation that they won’t meet again, but I expect Cena will leave with the belt.
A.M: In one way, I disagree.
I’m willing to sit through another Cena/Batista match.
However, in other ways, I’m a bit disappointed they couldn’t think of something better.
The ending of their Last Man Standing match seems to be an issue that splits people and I’m a part of the “loved it” group, but anything short of Cena manhandling Batista into submission won’t work for this match.
When you take into account Batista’s leaving the company it makes it all the more obvious that they should do something that puts Cena over and gives Dave an exit.
Hopefully, they do something memorable, but knowing the WWE, they’ll most likely just have Cena win with the STF, end the pay-per-view, and we’ll never see Batista again, which is a shame since he has been more entertaining in the past few months than the past few years combined.
The End Bit
Well there you have it.
I for one really enjoyed that, and I’d urge all our readers to head over to Smark Out Moment and check it out too!
