    Extreme Rules 2010 Live Results!

Hello everyone and welcome to our live coverage of WWE’s latest re-branded PPV; Over the Limit.

Our coverage tonight almost didn’t happen, due to a combination of the multiple double Vodka’s I consumed last night and the fact I have a very early start tomorrow morning for a training course, but fuelled by a ridiculous amount of Red Bull and Coffee I’m here to bring you all the action as-it-happens!

While we’re waiting for the show to start, I’ve been given another update by the elusive WWEBlog Informant, although it’s pretty much common knowledge now:

Bad news for fans of big hair, boring guest host segments and spitting apples as perennial WWE under-achiever Carlito has been released amid rumours of a drugs scandal.

My sources tell me that Carlito failed a wellness test, THEN refused to take the measures to deal with it, leading to his immediate release.

A thought has to be spared for young Primo Colon, who’s tag team title push is sure to be at least momentarily stunted by the departure of his older brother.

    - The Informant

Anyway, with the start of the show just moments away I can now reveal the results of our poll, which asked you which of the matches at Over the Limit you were most looking forward to!

The results are pretty conclusive, with over 50% of votes being cast for Batista Vs. Cena (54.3% to be exact).

Rey Vs. Punk came second, and Edge Vs. Orton third, but quite a way off.

No one at all said they were looking forward to Ted DiBiase Vs. R-Truth (can’t say as I blame you guys) and two people said that they thought the whole card looked awful.

The first match is just starting, so lets get to the action!

    Match 1

    Intercontinental Championship Match
    Kofi Kingston
    Vs.
    Drew McIntyre (c)

    A nice fast-paced start for tonight’s show.

We’re barely a minute into the match and Kofi’s already hit a huge dive through the ropes, but he’s on the receiving end of a beating from the Sadistic Scot now.

Does anyone out there know the requirements for a Spanish Announce team to be present? Because I used to assume that they only really showed up for the ‘big’ PPV’s (Rumble, Mania, Summerslam etc) but they are here tonight in all their glory.

Perhaps they just needed an announce table for Cena/Batista to destroy, so they gave those guys a call.

Kingston’s back in control now, and breaking the rules by using closed fists, at least according to Matt Striker, who just called for his immediate disqualification.

Boom Drop in the corner! But McIntyre kicks out at 2.

Kofi goes for the Trouble in Paradise, but McIntyre avoids it and goes for the Future Shock.

    Reversed! S.O.S! 1..2..3!

What the hell?! Not only did Drew McIntyre lose, the S.O.S actually won a match!

    Great opener!

Kofi Kingston wins by Pinfall and becomes the NEW Intercontinental Champion.

    Segment 1

    McIntyre Snaps

McIntyre’s gone crazy after the loss, demanding Teddy comes to the ring and reverses the decision.

Matt Hardy! Hardy makes his way to the ring and squares up to the former IC Champion, then drills him with a big Twist of Fate.

Bad night for The Chosen One.

    Segment 2

    Straight Edge Pep Talk

Backstage Punk and the S.E.S are preparing for tonight’s match by asking a mirror some questions.

    Strange I know.

Punk asks the mirror a set of questions, like who is going to win tonight, after each question Gallows and Serena repeat ‘C.M Punk’.

Punk says he can’t wait to have Mysterio join the S.E.S and although he knows that Luke doesn’t like him, it’s a good thing that he’ll be joining up.

The segment ends with a kind of group hug / cuddle. Quite disturbing.

    Match 2

    Singles Match
    R-Truth
    Vs.
    Ted DiBiase (w/Virgil)

Up now is the match that literally none of our fans would admit to looking forward to.

I’d have to guess that it’s R-Truth’s involvement that is putting people off, because DiBiase has been very impressive as of late.

Virgil’s kitted out in a nice suit, apparently because he’s on 3 times what Ted Snr. used to pay him.

Ted DiBiase has had the upper hand in this one so far, partially due to some distractions from the aforementioned Virgil.

Cole just dodged mentioning Carlito by name, saying DiBiase had paid ‘a couple of guys’ to attack Truth a few weeks ago.

I’m quite surprised he mentioned it at all to be honest.

Truth’s going for a Superplex to get himself back into it… but DiBiase throws him off.

Truth shakes the ropes and brings Ted down onto the top turnbuckle in a rather unpleasant way, allowing him to get the advantage for the first time in the match.

Booker T Axe Kick! No, DiBiase avoids it and hits a big (and kinda botched) Electric Chair that grabs a 2 count.

    Lie Detector! 1..2..3. Lame.

    R-Truth wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    No Way Player

Teddy Long is backstage on his mobile when Drew McIntyre enters.

He demands that Teddy reverse the decision AND fire Matt Hardy, but Long refuses to do both.

McIntyre smashes up his office then turns his attention to Teddy’s prized picture of Martin Luther King.

Long pleads with him to leave it alone and eventually McIntyre agrees to, saying that MLK is a great man, not a spineless coward like the Smackdown General Manager.

    Match 3

    Hair Vs. Lifestyle Match
    C.M Punk
    Vs.
    Rey Mysterio

No Gallows OR Serena at ringside tonight as Teddy Long has banned all outside influence, I wonder if that includes the Straight Egde ‘Mystery Man’?

At the start of the match Punk talks Mysterio into raising his hand, then kicks him in the mid-section and immediately sets about the Ultimate Underdog with vicious shots.

Back and forth action now as Mysterio gets dumped over the top rope, then Huricanrana’s Punk into the guard rail moments later.

Mysterio’s setting up for the 619… Punk avoids it and throws Mysterio under the bottom rope, where he collides HARD with the barbers chair on the outside.

We’re talking major hit too, his head snapped back and his neck crumpled when he hit.

Luckily for Mysterio Punk is busted open and the referee conveniently deals with that rather than counting him out.

Seriously, it’s a Pay Per View, can’t we have a bit of blood?

Looks like Rey might have a Stinger, although I’m not sure if it’s legitimate.

Punk’s bleeding is down to his earlier meeting with the barricade, which he just introduced Rey to a couple of times as soon as the medic had patched him up.

Wow, Punk’s cranked it up all the way to 11 here, he’s brutalising Mysterio on the outside.

After surviving a Leg Sleeper Mysterio fights back and grabs a quick roll-up for a 2 count.

Punk’s back in control now, hitting ‘Straight Edge Pledge’ forearms.

Imagine a Boom Drop, but rather than Boom’s it’s a pledge and rather than a Leg Drop it’s bit forearms.

Sunset Flip Powerbomb from Mysterio! 1..2.. Punk barely kicks out!

Mysterio is in complete control here, I’d suggest the crowd keep their eyes peeled for the hooded guy any second.

Punk kicks out from a few more long 2 counts, then rather fortuitously throws Mysterio into the turnbuckle, allowing him some time to recover.

Punk’s bleeding badly again, but the officials don’t seem to want to stop it again, probably because the fans started chanting ‘Boring’ last time.

Punk goes for the GTS but Mysterio counters. Punk stops him and Powerbombs him into the turnbuckle, before hitting a Bulldog from the second rope.

Kick to the head from Punk gets another 2 count. This has been a great match, I didn’t expect they’d have anything much to offer having met so many times, but this has really impressed me.

Mysterio goes for a Springboard Moonsault but Punk catches him and goes for the GTS!

Mysterio counters out and hits the 619! But Punk avoids the following Senton Splash.

Punk sits up and begins to smile, but Mysterio rolls him up! 1..2..3!

Wow, Punk’s bleeding all over and now he has to get his head shaved?

Here we go, here’s the Mystery Man! He’s jumped Mysterio and started beating the hell out of him.

Punk calls Gallows and Serena from the back, we’ve got a 4 on 1 now, and Gallows has handcuffs.

    Kane?!

What the hell? Kane’s here to make the save!

Didn’t he kidnap Rey like a year ago and put him through hell? Yet now he’s here to save him?

Mysterio’s cuffed Punk to the ropes… Reverse 619 to the face!

Punk is completely cuffed up now, and Mysterio has the clippers. Come on Rey, get it over with.

Curiously, the Mystery man is on the outside, but Rey seems more intent on cutting hair than finding out who he is.

Rey’s been pretty heavy handed with the clippers, I think he pulled out more hair than he clipped off.

Serena and the Mystery Man helped Punk to the back with a towel over his head after the ritual humiliation was all over. The Mystery Man has taken to wearing a balaclava now, probably after almost all his face was revealed on his first ever outing.

    Rey Mysterio wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 4

    Jeri-Show Again

Backstage Show is warming up for his match tonight when Jericho approaches him.

He thanks Show for being such a tool, as if he hadn’t been he and The Miz would have never got together.

He says that now they’ve ‘trimmed the fat’ from the team, they are going to be more successful than either of their Show based teams were.

As Jericho and Show bicker The Miz approaches from behind.

Show tells Jericho that his partner should focus on their match tonight, rather than creeping up and standing behind him like he is.

Show threatens to knock them both out and they leave, allowing the Giant to get back to his title match preparation.

    Match 4

    Tag Team Match
    The Hart Dynasty (c) (w/Natalya)
    Vs.
    The Miz & Chris Jericho

Cole’s going all heelish again, agreeing with Striker that Bret Hart shouldn’t be allowed to be U.S Champion.

He’s quickly snapped out of it now Jericho and Miz have shown up though, chastising them for sticking their nose in everyone’s business like they did with Big Show a few minutes ago.

THD are straight out of the blocks here with some dominant wrestling from Kidd and a huge delayed standing Supplex on Miz from DH Smith.

Jericho’s in and turning the tables while a fairly big ‘Y2J’ chant echoes around the arena, Striker puts it down to a large Canadian contingent in the crowd tonight.

Miz lands a cheap shot after Jericho dumped DH Smith to the outside, allowing him to maintain control and lock in a Sleeper to slow the pace down.

Miz is in now and applying the same tactic, a nice… slow… boring… sleeper.

DH powers out and shows us the second Electric Chair Drop of the Pay Per View. They must be like busses, you don’t see one for 12 years, then two come along at once… or something like that.

Kidd gets the hot tag and turns the match once more in THD’s favour, scoring a 2 count an impressive Springboard Roll-up.

He goes for a Huricanrana but Jericho catches it and turns it into a Walls of Jericho, which almost gets the job done.

Kidd attempts a Springboard but Jericho turns it expertly into a mid-air CodeBreaker which scores a two, purely because he took too long to cover.

Smith in off the hot tag now, cleaning house.

Powerslam! 1..2… Jericho barely kicks out! King claims it was a three.

Jericho with the roll-up, 1..2.. another kick out! Miz and Jericho complain to the referee, allowing Natalya to hook a leg and turn the momentum.

Miz tags in and hits a Backbreaker/Neckbreaker combo that gets a 2 count.

He goes for a SharpShooter but Smith reverses it into a roll up for another 2.

The Miz hits his corner clothesline thing, but DH Smith catches him and after a quick tag to Kidd the Hart Attack seals the deal with a 3 count!

Good match, but it suffered because it came after such a good encounter between Punk and Mysterio.

The Hart Dynasty retain the Unified Tag Team Championships by Pinfall.

    Match 5

    Singles Match
    Edge
    Vs.
    Randy Orton

Big build up to this match on the actual PPV, with a promo video and very long, drawn out entrances. Hopefully it lives upto the hype.

Edge has a nasty black eye, or the remnants of one at least, wonder how that happened.

Slow start to the bout, but a very methodical one from Orton, picking Edge apart almost instantly.

Edge turns the tides on the outside, slamming Orton’s midsection across the timekeepers barricade, seemingly damaging his arm in the process.

For the past 5 minutes Edge has had a selection of ground submission holds locked in, leading to a quiet but very worthy ‘this is boring’ chant.

Orton breaks free and tries to take control of the match with a Superplex which he hits at the second time of asking, but it seems to have done him as much damage as his opponent.

Edge goes to Spear Orton through the ropes, but Randy gets a knee up and turns it into a Rope-Assisted DDT, which probably would have scored a 3 had Edge not been so close to the ropes, which he used to break the count.

Moments later and Edge is setting up for the Spear again… Orton avoids it and strikes with a Punt!

    Here comes the R…K…O…, No!

Orton’s injured, like seriously injured. Legitimately injured.

Striker suspects nerve damage, I suspect bulls**t (from Striker that is.)

Both men get counted out, but the real story here is that Orton could be out for a lot longer.

It happened as he was pounding the canvas in preparation for the RKO.

Just re-wound the footage and it looks like a fractured forearm, you could kind of see it pop as he slammed it into the ground, and he started saying ‘Wait, wait, stop’ as soon as it happened.

This whole match was kind of a let-down, and the make-shift ending didn’t help either.

Hopefully Orton’s injury won’t be too bad, but the way it popped, I’d say it’s a few months on the shelf at least.

Match ends in a Double Count Out.

    Match 6

    Singles Match
    Jack Swagger (c)
    Vs.
    The Big Show

Show’s in charge early on here.

He’s turned Swagger’s chest ‘Beet Red’ as JR would say, delivering some huge slaps that echoed around the arena.

Show goes for the Chokeslam! But Swagger escapes to the outside, then hangs Show up on the top rope before hitting a kind of Shoulder Block come Spear to the midsection.

That didn’t look like it went to plan, but Show doesn’t seem to have too many ill effects from it.

Show is back in charge again and calling for the Showstopper….

Swagger battles back but gets dumped over the top rope for his troubles.

He’s decided that enough is enough and grabbed the Heavyweight Championship.

Shot to the head! That’s the deliberate DQ.

Swagger hits Show again with the title, then heads to the outside and grabs a chair.

Chair shot to the back! Show’s getting up again…

Another chair shot, once again Show pulls himself up.

    Chokeslam!

Show’s got the chair and he’s bent it over Swagger’s back!

    Chokeslam on the Chair!

Show’s calling for the Knockout Punch… and there it is!

Man that was awful, it’s almost made me look forward to the Divas match up next.

The Big Show wins by Disqualification therefore Jack Swagger retains the World Heavyweight Championship.

    Segment 5

    Batista Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews asked Batista if he could make Cena say he quits tonight.

Batista says he made Cena shout he quits at the end of Raw, but no on heard it, so tonight he’s going to make sure he says it loud enough so that no one will miss it.

    Match 7

    Divas Championship Match
    Eve (c)
    Vs.
    Maryse

Here’s your chance to take a quick toilet/snack break guys.

I thought the match might have been pulled when Batista’s interview came on, but sadly not.

Notable in this match was one of the quietest chants I’ve ever heard; ‘Lets go Eve’.

It literally sounded like half a dozen people were shouting it, while the rest remained almost silent while this run-of-the-mill Divas match took place.

Eve won the match with a very bizarre finisher that I’m not even going to try to explain.

45 minutes left for the main event.

Eve wins by Pinfall and retains the Divas Championship.

    Main Event Match

    WWE Championship I Quit Match
    John Cena (c)
    Vs.
    Batista

Here we go, this is the match you, the WWEBlog fans said you were most keen to see!

The match hasn’t even started and Batista’s asked Cena to quit, to save himself from an ass kicking.

Cena contemplated it, but then said he didn’t think so and drilled The Animal with the microphone.

I’m not holding out much hope for this match, thanks to the PG-13 stuff, but we’ll see how it goes.

Michael Cole just delivered a rather spurious fact, claiming that Cena’s never tapped out in his career, ever.

I can’t be bothered to go through reams and reams of Cena footage, but I’m sure he must have at some point.

And here come the ‘Lets go Cena/Cena Sucks’ chants.

Cena has refused to quit 3 times so far this match, which tells you everything you need to know, Batista has been in complete control.

Shoulder blocks, Backdrop, Five Knuckle Shuffle combo from Cema with intense booing from the crowd.

Cena’s going for the Attitude Adjustment, but Batista uses the ropes and then the referee to avoid getting hit with it.

Spear! Batista’s locking on his ‘new’ submission manoeuvre.

Cena refuses to quit a couple of times then powers out and flips it into a STF.

Batista is asked if he wants to quit for the first time tonight, but instead he attempts to make it to the ropes, which does nothing.

Batista is out cold, technically he hasn’t quit, so the match continues.

Cena grabs some water from next to the announce table and revives him, but he refuses to quit when he comes back round.

Spinebuster! Dave’s going for the Batista Bomb… hits it!

Uh ohhhhhh, the Spanish announce table has been stripped down, and now the regular one too for good measure.

Batista sets Cena up on one table for the Batista Bomb… Cena reverses and goes for the Attitude Adjustment…

Batista reverses it again and hits a Running Powerslam through the Spanish Announce Table! Amazing!

Cena’s been busted wide open! Medics are tending to him, but he refuses to quit again.

Cena’s patched up and they are fighting through the crowd now, with Batista in complete control.

At the top of a huge stairwell Batista tells Cena to quit or he’s going to toss him over the railings, Cena refuses and Batista sets up for a Batista Bomb, but Cena fights out and attempts to throw Batista over the edge instead.

After doing some ‘teetering’ Cena knocks Batista off into some handily placed security guards who catch him and break his fall.

Batista refuses to quit and the pair battle back towards the ramp where he grabs a chair and starts wailing away on Cena.

All night there have been two cars at the top of the ramp, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t come into play at some point in the match.

After taking umpteen chair shots Cena refuses to quit, prompting The Animal to focus on… you guessed it; one of the cars.

He jumps in and starts it up (handy they’d left the keys in eh), then tries to reverse over Cena’s prone body.

The camera angle prevents us from seeing if there’s any contact, but moments later Cena appears from the side and sets about Batista, hitting him with the Attitude Adjustment onto the bonnet.

Batista refuses to quit and Cena tells him that he’d hoped he’d say that.

He begins to set Batista up for an Attitude Adjustment off the roof of the car, but he quits!

Cena retains the title, then slams Batista from the car anyway!

The Animal crashes through two handily placed ‘dodgy’ floor panels and Cena celebrates another ‘huge’ victory over Batista.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we never saw Batista again now.

Cena’s celebrating at the top of the ramp, that looks like all we’re getting tonight, with 15 minutes to spare.

Sheamus! The Celtic Warrior emerges from backstage and hits a Pump Kick to floor the champion!

Looks like we’re in for a Cena/Sheamus rematch then.

John Cena wins by Pinfall and retains the WWE Championship.

    The End Bit

Well, this PPV was about as average as I expected it to be.

Mysterio/Punk was a highlight, but really it was all either under-hyped, rushed or yet another re-match.

Orton’s injury has to be the main concern and Kingston’s victory is probably the shocker of the night, with all the other matches being fairly predictable.

As always I hope you enjoyed our coverage tonight, and would like you to consider following us on Facebook/Twitter, you can find the links at the top of the page.

    Thanks again everyone and goodnight!
