WrestleMania XXV Live Results

Live ‘as they happen’ results from the biggest Pay Per View of the year!
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome…to WRESTLEMANIA.
Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls fame warbled America the Beautiful this year, before the event got properly under way.
As WWEBlog.co.uk predicted in the WrestleMania XXV Newsletter, after the impromptu departure of Tazz they have gone for a 3 man commentary team. Cole, J.R and King look like they will be calling all the action tonight. You’ll also all be happy to know that the Spanish announce team have made a triumphant return and with the number of ‘hardcore’ style matches on tonight’s card, I don’t rate the chances of their announce table making it to the end of the night.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Everyone is in their Sunday best tonight, M.V.P in his red outfit, Kofi and Christian in hooded vests, oh and Finlay and Hornswaggle have some plastic crap attached to their shoulders, I don’t know what thats all about.
Kane is the last man to make it into the ring and the match starts. This one is going to be fast and furious, but I’ll try and keep you up to speed with all the big bumps and near chances.
If you want to check out the background for this match, or any of the others tonight why not check out the WrestleMania XXV Previews and Predictions page.
Kane and Henry are the first to attempt to climb the ladder for the briefcase, but don’t get far. Shortly after there’s a spot-fest where Christian, M.V.P, Kofi and C.M Punk dived from the inside on to the gradually building number of participants on the outside. This was capped fistly by Shelton flipping from what looked like a 20ft ladder, and then Hornswaggle climbing a tiny stepladder and delivering a tadpole splash from the corner to the outside.
Kingston just climbed a CLOSED ladder that Henry had hold of, almost grabbing the briefcase. Henry stopped him and delivered a Worlds Strongest Slam on to the ladder, I think Kingston will be out for a while. M.V.P is the next to come close, but a combination of C.M Punk and Christian prevent it before taking each other out of the equation.
A very bizarre structure has been created from ladders in the ring which is causing a lot of the guys to botch moves left and right. After messing up a sunset flip and dragging M.V.P’s face down the ladder in the process, Shelton destroys the set up before he and Christian begin battling across two ladders. Christian wins out and looks to have the briefcase in his grasp, but Punk interjects and the two fight on the ladder again, before Kane enters the fray.
Kane knocks Christian from the ladder, and looked to Chokeslam Punk before the straight edge superstar delivered kicks to his temple and pushed the big red machine down to the ring. Punk unhooked the briefcase and won the match for the 2nd straight year, to the boo’s of the crowd who seemed annoyed that he had won, but also that this great match was over so quickly.
C.M Punk wins Money in the Bank.
Kid Rock
Lillian Garcia introduced Kid Rock, who came out looking like a white-trash version of Jonny Depp. He sang Bawitdaba first and looked like he was blatantly lip syncing. I like Kid Rock, but this is on par with when Motorhead performed and Lemmy seemed to be incredibly drunk and forgot the words.
He sang Cowboy and All Summer Long and improved noticeably. Either he got better at faking it or there were some serious technical problems throughout the first section, as it simply didn’t look like he was singing it at first.
The backing band were amazing and he wrapped up by singing ‘So Hot’ as a number of Diva’s made their way past him for the 25 Diva Battle Royal.
Enjoyable if you like Kid Rock, and a lot better than I thought it was going to be two minutes into it when it looked a shoe in for one of Mania’s more farcical moments.
25 Diva Battle Royal
This match started horrifically. Before Lillian had even announced the match Layla had been eliminated and there was no on screen announcement as to who the ‘diva’s from the past’ were.
Mae Young was on time keeping duties and of the ‘diva’s from the past’ I spotted Sunny, Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Victoria (even though she only left a few days ago) and Jackie Gayda. It’s all pretty irrelevant as none of them made it to the end of the match.
Down to the last 3 and it’s Melina, Beth and someone nobody recognises (which is blatantly Santino in drag). So it came as an amazing shock when he/she dumped Beth and Melina over the top rope to win the match. King and J.R continued to play dumb until ‘Santina’, explained that she was Santino’s twin sister before dorning the sash and tiara.
Shocking, even by WWE’s standards. They had a real draw here with the ‘surprise entrants’ angle and it was wasted by not introducing any of them properly, and all of them being eliminated before it came down to the important entrants.
Santina Marella wins and is crowned Miss WrestleMania.
Chris Jericho Vs. The Legends
It seems (according to WWE.Com) that the Tag Team Title Unification match has already taken place, I assume as a dark match. Carlito and Primo are now the Unified Tag Team Champs. It would have been nice to see it actually happen, but hopefully we’ll get some sort of highlights or clip later in the show, but so far it hasn’t even been mentioned.
Anyway, Jericho enters the ring first, then the Legends amassed at the top of the ramp before Flair joined them and they headed for the ring, stopping to greet Mickey Rourke on the way. Rourke actually doesn’t have as good of a seat as I expected, sitting somewhere on the rampway rather than actually at ringside.
After taking a beating from all 3 legends, Jericho makes Snuka tap out against the run of play with the Walls of Jericho. Piper falls seconds later to an Running Enziguri, then Steamboat gets a damn near fall with a flying cross-body from the top rope.
Steamboat ‘skins the cat’, an amazing feat! Flair gets knocked from the apron by Jericho, giving Steamboat enough time to take advantage and dump Jericho to the outside.
Back in the ring Steamboat is wrestling like a man a quarter of his age, and gets another near fall with a roll-up out of the corner. Meanwhile Flair composes himself on the outside after going crazy following his tumble from the apron.
Steamboat reverses the Walls of Jericho and gets another near fall, before falling victim to the CodeBreaker. The Legends lose and Flair dives into the ring.
He delivers a plethora of chops before another CodeBreaker puts him out. Jericho pushes his beaten body from the ring and requests a microphone…wonder what he’s going to say…
He says that he’s finally defeated the washouts, and now the last piece of business is with Rourke. He tells him to get into the ring, and Rourke replies by flipping him the V sign. Jericho says if he doesn’t then he will jump the rail and slap him in the face. Rourke eventually gets up makes his way to the ring, to a mixed response from the crowd.
Rourke is now in the ring and dancing around like a boxer, which J.R informs us he used to be. He hits Jericho with a quick flurry of jabs, before catching him with a mean left hook.
That appears to be it, as Flair is now back in the ring holding Rourke’s hand in the air. So far WrestleMania XXV has been a bit ‘meh’, and I for one hope it picks up soon. Feel the same? Feel differently? Let us know via the Contact Us Page.
Chris Jericho wins by Submission, Pinfall, Pinfall.
Matt Hardy Vs. Jeff Hardy Extreme Rules Match
Matt looks slightly deranged as he stands in the ring waiting for his brother to enter. Jeff appears this time with a purple and white design plastered across his face, while J.R, King and Cole discuss to what degree Matt admitted to burning down Jeff’s house.
The first weapon of the match used is …. Drumroll … a WrestleMania XXV framed poster. Why that would be under the ring is anyone’s guess, but there you go. Cole asked J.R if he ever thought he’d see the day that the Hardys turned on each other, to which J.R replied that he didn’t. Maybe he should cast his mind back to the first Royal Rumble after the rosters were first split, as the two of them were enemies back then too.
After some chair shots, Matt dragged a table out from under the ring and set it up on the outside. He tried to superplex Jeff through it but was reversed, so far the table remains in tact. Jeff then slammed Matt into the steps before whaling on him with a Kendo Stick and shoving him in a bin, which he then hit with a crutch.
Jeff misses the Swanton and Matt hits a Twist of Fate but it isn’t enough to finish the match. Matt then climbs the turnbuckle and signals for a Swanton of his own, but Jeff puts a stop to it before it gets started and delivers a superplex.
Jeff laid Matt on the already set up table, before placing a chair on his chest and then setting up another table on top of it. He then hit a big splash through the whole set-up, although seemed to overshoot it slightly. It looked like it would hurt both brothers equally, but Jeff is the first up and rolls Matt into the ring, covering him for a near fall (Matt got his foot on the rope to break the count.)
The ladders are out, Jeff has set up 2 ladders, one slightly taller than the other. He climbs to the top of the shorter one, before leapfrogging the big one and attempting an amazingly high Leg Drop, which Matt avoids. Jeff fell around 12 feet, landing on the base of his spine.
Matt delivers a Twist of Fate with Jeff’s neck THROUGH a steel chair (it looked brutal) and picks up the 3 count! The crowd were actually cheering as Matt hit the Twist of Fate and picked up the win.
Matt Hardy wins by Pinfall.
JBL Vs. Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship
Anyone ready for a bathroom break? Now’s your chance!
JBL came out without his trademark Limousine and said he had returned to Texas as a champion, which is good as Texas doesn’t have a champion, in fact it doesn’t even have any men. He spouted off for another few minutes about how he would give the fans the most dominant win in WrestleMania history (he obviously hasn’t seen the Ultimate Warrior Vs. Hunter Hurst Helmsley match in a while.)
Rey Mysterio comes out dressed as The Joker from Batman, but actually looks more like a poor man’s Doink. His ‘Joker’ mask has a hook nose on it which actually makes him look rather disturbing.
JBL destroys Rey before the ref has even gone over the match instructions, and the ref asks Rey if he wants to go ahead with the match. He says yes and the bell rings, about 20 seconds later Rey covers JBL and wins the Intercontinental Championship.
Rey literally hit an Enziguri and a 619/Splash. It was similar to the Chavo Vs. Kane match last year and a complete waste of everyone’s time.
After the match JBL grabs a microphone and screams that he quits.
Anyone using this match as a toilet break, welcome back
Rey Mysterio wins the Intercontinental Championship by Pinfall.
The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels
HBK enters the arena in his White Undertaker getup, ascending as if from heaven on a smoke covered podium. As the podium hits the ground pyro’s erupt in front of him, giving him the opportunity to remove his coat and hat, when the pyro’s die down his music kicks in and he makes his way down the ramp.
The Undertaker emerged upwards through the staging at the top of the ramp, seemingly as if emerging from Hell, before raising his arms and triggering a selection of flame-y pyro’s, furthering the Heaven Vs. Hell angle it appears they are going for. Taker’s entrance isn’t a patch on what it has been at past Mania’s; no druids, no flaming torches, very little smoke.
Taker brings up the house lights and the camera pans out, on a side note you’ll be glad to know so far the status of the Spanish Announce table is: OK.
The bell rings and the match is on!
Michaels pretends to tweak his knee early on, only to take advantage and knock the Undertaker to the ground when he came close enough. As expected the crowd are completely divided, with ‘Lets go Michaels’ and ‘Lets go Taker’ chants battling each other as fiercely as the competitors are in the ring.
Taker hits ‘Old School’ and looks to be in charge but one reversal later and The Showstopper is in control, working on Taker’s legs and starting up another Taker/HBK chant battle in the crowd.
Figure 4 locked in by HBK and Taker seems to be suffering, J.R points out for the slower WWE fans that “Michaels cannot be Chokeslammed from this position, or Tombstoned.” Taker breaks the hold and begins to mount offence again, culminating with a Snake eyes, into a big boot and then a leg drop which got a 2 count.
Attempted Chokeslam reversed into a Crippler Crossface (are we still allowed to call it that?), Taker fights through it then rolls it into a cover, but HBK kicks out and keeps the Crossface cinched in.
Taker fights out and the two go at it again…
Michaels begins his finishing combo with two atomic drops, but The Deadman sits up as HBK went to the top rope for the big elbow and prevents it. HBK reverses a chokeslam attempt and delivers a form of Sweet Chin Music to Taker’s knee (yup, his knee) then goes for the Figure 4, but Taker reverses it into a Hells Gate. Michaels barely makes it to the ropes to break the submission, it really is back and forth stuff here!
Michaels half-botches a Moonsault from the top rope, which Taker dodges. Michaels seems to have inured his wrist on the outside, but as the official pleads with him to call an end to the match HBK refuses. Taker goes to dive over the top rope, but HBK pulls the cameraman into his path. Taker botches it completely, not getting the required distance and his head spikes into the floor, this could be a serious injury here.
HBK drags the ref (who also got knocked down) back into the ring and begs him to count Taker out, which be begins to do. Surely it can’t end this way.
Taker begins to stir around 4 and just breaks the count on around 9 and 99/100ths. HBK begins to tune up the band.
Taker dodges Sweet Chin Music and hits a massive Chokeslam, but HBK kicks out before the 3. Moments later Taker kicks out after a Sweet Chin Music! This really is amazing stuff and for a match I didn’t really think I cared about, I’m thinking it’s by far the best bout so far.
Shawn manages to avoid a Last Ride, but then gets drilled with one on the second attempt, but kicks out which no one (including myself) can believe. J.R is stunned, The King is stunned, I haven’t heard Cole for a while so I assume he’s stunned, the crowd can’t believe what they are seeing. Taker goes for a HBK style top rope elbow but misses, what more can possibly happen here?
Shawn ‘skins the cat’ straight into a Tombstone position and gets drilled, surely that’s it! No! HBK kicks out AGAIN.
HBK counters Taker’s Tombstone set-up into a spinning DDT and now Mr WrestleMania is literally dragging himself to the top rope to go for the big elbow. Hits it! Sweet Chin Music….Hits it! Cover..1..2..Kick Out! Oh my this is an instant classic!
HBK back to the top rope, Moonsault caught into another Tombstone and that has to be it! Yes! 17-0.
Amazing, simply put absolutely amazing. It was almost a shame that one of these guys had to lose after that, and the rest of the matches on the card will really have to go some to beat that one.
J.R summed it up by saying ‘as a wrestling fan, how could you ask for anything more?’ Spectacular and worth the price of the DVD alone when it comes out.
The Undertaker wins by Pinfall.
Edge (c) Vs. John Cena Vs. The Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship
I almost feel sorry for these guys because as if this match didn’t seem ‘average’ enough, now they have to follow what will probably remain as the stand-out match of WrestleMania XXV.
Vikki is rolled to the ring by Chavo before Edge and Big Show make their way to the ring. Cena’s old ‘Word Life’ theme plays and about 100 Cena’s pile out from the back and line up down the ramp. The music cuts and Cena’s current theme hits as the Cena clones all start to do the ‘you can’t see me’ hand sign. Cena walks out from the back and sprints down the middle of them, sliding into the ring and saluting the fans before Lillian begins the introductions.
Show gets boo’ed, Cena gets boo’ed and Edge gets cheered, which King puts down to the crowd containing a large Canadian contingent. More likely is the fact that Cena always gets boo’ed at Mania and people just like Edge.
Edge attempts to make a pact with Show early on but fails as the Giant drills him and throws him out of the ring. Vikki rolls closer to him to check that he is OK and get a better view of the match.
Cena hits a big leg drop onto the back of Show’s neck from the ring apron to the outside, damaging himself in the process and putting Edge in the driving seat. Cena went for the ‘Attitude Adjustment’ (which apparently can’t be called the F-U anymore) and got roundly boo’ed by the fans.
Chavo decides to get involved by dragging Cena from the ring. An attitude adjustment later and Cena slides back in the ring and knocks Show into the ropes, tangling him up. Cena then knocks down Edge and hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle (which apparently isn’t as bad as calling a move the F-U), before Vikki jumps on the apron and gets hit with a wayward Spear from Edge.
Show screams at the ref to untangle him, which he does, and then goes on the offence, destroying both men with a combination of a Chokeslam and a big right hand. Both men roll to the outside and the match continues.
Edge DDT’s Show on the outside before dragging the steps into position and using them to spring up and hit The Giant with a big shoulder tackle which sends both men crashing through the barricade. Edge tries to drag the Big Show back to the ring but can’t, so instead drags Cena into the ring and gets a 2 count.
Cena locks in the STF(U) on Edge and more boo’s echo around the arena, before Show saves the match up by dragging Cena through the ropes and to the outside. He then goes for a big splash/elbow in the corner but misses (why does he go for that? I’ve never once seen him hit it.)
Edge and Cena team up briefly and hit a double supplex on Show, before dumping him over the top rope. Edge turned on Cena at the first available chance and got a 2 count, before hitting a Spear and going for a pinfall, which Show broke up.
Cena picks up BOTH men on his back, but Edge squirms off. Attitude Adjustment to The Big Show, Attitude Adjustment to Edge ONTO The Big Show, Cena covers Show and gets the 1..2..3. Cena is the champion once again, despite pretty much half the attending audience NOT wanting it to happen.
John Cena wins the World Heavyweight Championship by Pinfall.
Hall of Fame Class of 2009
The Hall of Fame 2009 Class made their way out onto the stage and Austin got a massive pop from the crowd, walking out in his suit. Austin left as soon as his name had been called, before his music hit and he came back out on top of a quad bike in a 3:16 T-Shirt. Austin then proceeded to drink a few beers in the ring as well as share a cold one with J.R as the crowd went crazy.

Triple H (c) Vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship
Before the match Triple H bumps into a fully suited Shane and Vince McMahon. Not saying a word he walks past them and we cut to the ring where Orton’s music hits and Lillian goes over the stipulation that if Triple H should be disqualified or counted out, he would still lose his WWE Championship.
Triple H walks out behind some sort of mirror/pane of glass. He has a sledgehammer with him, which if he brought to the ring would class as an instant DQ. The Game throws the hammer at the massive screen blocking his path, shattering it. He steps through the wreckage and makes his way to the ring while King and Cole speculate what mindset he is in.
We’re into the last half an hour of the PPV and I’ve drank the last of my Red Bull. Time for Orton and Triple H to step up and attempt to top the fantastic outing from HBK and The Undertaker.
Triple H starts off like a madman, only for the referee to explain to him that if he gets disqualified he loses the title. Seconds later and Orton hits an RKO, putting Triple H on the canvas and leaving him prime for an Orton punt. Orton misses and gets hit with a Pedigree. Two finishers and we can’t be more than 5 minutes into the match!
Despite numerous people taking an interest in the Spanish Announce Table, it still remains in tact. Could it be that it will actually make it to the end of the night in one piece?
Triple H closes in on Orton after beating him on the outside, but Orton begs him to wait and let him recover. Triple H refuses and beats him down before slingshotting him into the bottom rope and then driving knees into the back of his head.
Triple H just lost his advantage when Orton whipped him full force into the steel steps, and then into the guard rail which The Game flew over the top of. Triple H breaks the count at 6 but Orton is waiting for him and continues to beat him down, delivering a knee to the back of the head himself.
Orton slows the match down with a headlock, bending The Game’s kneck back and limiting his intake of oxygen. Triple H fought back to his feet leading to an exchange of punches between the two, which lead to a Harley Race high Knee from The Game and an attempted Pedigree which was reversed into a massive slingshot.
Double A Spinebuster from The Game, subsequent Pedigree reversed into Orton’s trademark Inverted Backbreaker which gets a very long 2 count. A brutal dropkick catches Triple H in the face as the champ tried to come off the top rope, Orton goes for another Punt but is caught coming in. Triple H keeps hold of Orton’s leg and flips him over the top rope, following him to the outside and slamming his head into the Spanish Announce Table *gulp*.
Triple H plans on drilling Orton in the head with a monitor but the ref talks him out of it and he goes with a kick to the head instead. Both announce tables are cleared and Triple H plans on hitting the Pedigree on J.R, King and Cole’s table, but Orton backdrops him over and he crashes down on the Spanish Announce Table… Which doesn’t break!
Orton drags The Game to the edge of the table and hits the DDT which he usually executes using the middle rope. The Game begins to stir at 7 and only just breaks the count before 10. An enraged Orton stomps all over Triple H, before he rallies and drives Orton back. Orton then throws Triple H into the corner where the ref was stood, taking him out, before hitting a big RKO. There’s no referee, and Orton has just grabbed a Sledgehammer.
Triple H hits Orton with a Punt as he slides back into the ring, then grabs the Sledgehammer and drills Orton with it before throwing it to the outside, obviously the ref is still down and is none the wiser. Triple H hammers punches down on his opponent until the ref rallies and drags him off.
He picks Orton up and delivers a Pedigree which picks up the 3. The Game retains his WWE Championship.
Triple H stands over Orton’s fallen body as pyro’s erupt across the entrance ramp. The recap video begins to play and it looks like that’s the end of WrestleMania XXV.
Triple H retains the WWE Championship by Pinfall.
Well it looks like it’s all over. Thank you for joining us here on WWEBlog.co.uk for the live results! I’ve had a blast writing them and I hope you enjoyed reading them. Overall tonight was a bit of an anti-climax in most of the matches, with the real stand out being the Undertaker/HBK match, which was actually the one I wasn’t really looking forward to.
For anyone still unsure, although it was NEVER mentioned at all throughout the show, Carlito and Primo are the new Unified Tag Team Champs.
