    TLC 2009 Confirmed Matches & Mini-Preview

Find out what matches are currently scheduled to take place at TLC 2009.

The following matches have been confirmed for TLC on the 13th December at the AT&T Centre in San Antonio, Texas.

    Grudge Match

    Singles Match
    Randy Orton
    Vs.
    Kofi Kingston

A rivalry that has been brewing ever since the “Ghanaian Sensation” cost the Viper the WWE Championship at Bragging Rights will come to a head at TLC.

In recent weeks, fans of the WWE have witnessed the evolution of Kofi Kingston from a fun-loving high-flyer into a resilient and determined rival to one of the biggest heels within the company.

Who can forget the destruction of Orton’s personalised NASCAR at the hands of Kingston, or Orton being put through a table at Madison Square Garden following the biggest Boom Drop you are ever likely to see?

Recent weeks have seen a number of inconclusive matches between the two, marred by interference from Orton’s Legacy cohorts and a fast count from Raw guest host Mark Cuban much to the ire of Orton.

It remains to be seen which of these two superstars will have the last laugh at TLC.

    WWE Intercontinental Championship Match

    Singles Match
    John Morrison (c)
    Vs.
    Drew McIntyre

Smackdown once again plays host to another potentially exciting match-up between two of the brightest young stars within the company.

Drew McIntyre’s star has been on the rise ever since he was ‘hand picked’ by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon as a world champion of the future, and it was only recently on Smackdown that McIntyre picked up a hugely impressive victory over the self-proclaimed ‘Guru of Greatness’ in a non-title bout.

John Morrison has enjoyed tremendous success in the defence of his title over a number of months now including such rising talent as Dolph Ziggler and Eric Escobar, but will he meet his match when he comes up against the young Scotsman?

    WWE Heavyweight Championship Match

    Chair Match
    The Undertaker (c)
    Vs.
    Batista

Two powerhouses will battle it out for the Heavyweight Championship here, in what promises to be a particularly brutal contest.

It has not yet been made clear exactly how the format of this match will work, but with the presence of the steel in either man’s hand, this is bound to get ugly quickly.

Ever since he turned on his former best friend Rey Mysterio at Bragging Rights, Batista has been the dominant force on the blue brand, with impressive victories over the likes of Kane and Matt Hardy.

As well as this, Batista gave a sneak preview of what he could do to The Undertaker in this type of match, as he wore him out with a steel chair, before delivering a devastating Spinebuster onto the steel to leave the Deadman down and out for two weeks running.

The Undertaker is no stranger to facing Batista, and fans with good memories may remember some of the previous clashes between these two behemoths.

This is the first time that the two will have met in a chair match, (and to the best of our recollection the first time anyone will have met in a chair match) though with The Undertakers experience in other such dangerous match types including Hell in a Cell, the dead man should have nothing to fear here, even in facing potentially his most dangerous challenger to date.

    ECW Championship Match

    Ladder Match
    Christian (c)
    Vs.
    Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin gets a shot at the ECW Championship gold in a match that has the potential to completely steal the show.

Two extremely talented individuals who both have great experience in ladder matches will go one-on-one in a battle over the ECW Championship.

Few will be able to forget Benjamin’s performance in Money in the Bank matches at WrestleMania, whilst the Triangle Tag Team Ladder and TLC bouts between Edge & Christian, The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz still live long in the memory of many long-time WWE fans.

There is no bad blood between these two, so the only thing (and I do not say this lightly) at stake is the Championship.

Match of the night calibre action is almost a given here.

    WWE Championship Match

    Tables Match
    John Cena (c)
    Vs.
    Sheamus

WWE Champion John Cena faces a stern and unpredictable contest for the title against the Celtic Warrior in a tables match.

We have had numerous reminders over the weeks building up to this event, that Sheamus does not have to pin Cena, nor does he have to make him submit.

The only way to win is to put your opponent through a table, an event that Sheamus has shown himself more than capable of in recent weeks.

When he made this match for TLC, Jesses “The Body” Ventura alluded to a conspiracy that was in place to keep John Cena as champion of the WWE.

The apple-spitting Carlito also made a return to Raw recently, seemingly to inform Cena that a win for Sheamus would also be a win for the WWE locker room, the majority of whom did not want John Cena as champion.

The “Celtic Warrior” has shown his dark intentions for John Cena in recent weeks, firstly by powerslamming him through a table at the contract signing, before delivering a devastating series of pump kicks during the “showdown” on Raw just days before the title match at TLC.

It is barely six weeks since Sheamus arrived on Raw from ECW, but can he go on to claim the championship at such an early point in his WWE career?

WWE Unified Tag Team Championship Match

    TLC Match
    Jeri-Show (c)
    Vs.
    D-Generation X

The match type that gives this PPV its name sees Chris Jericho and Big Show hoping to defend their unified Tag Team Championships against D-Generation X in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match.

Much has been made of the fact that D-Generation X (in its current guise) have never won the Tag Team Championship, and the veteran duo have the chance to quash this fact here, in HBK’s hometown of San Antonio, Texas.

Michaels in particular has a lot of experience in these type of match-ups as one the key revolutionaries of the ladder match, having been through bouts with WWE luminaries such as Bret “Hitman” Hart, Razor Ramon and Chris Jericho himself.

Will this experience prove to be enough to end the highly impressive and hugely dominant title reign of Jeri-Show?

Y2J (as he was formerly known) and Show sent a dominant message to D-X this week on Raw, leaving both lying in the ring following an attack with both chairs and ladders.

If Jeri-Show were to lose their titles, then this week could prove to have been Chris Jericho’s final week on Raw, although he will undoubtedly show up at The Slammys next week regardless.

Will the egotistical 2008 Superstar of the Year go on to top his 2009 with the defeat of yet another of the top WWE Tag Teams, or will D-Generation X finally end their long wait for tag team gold?
