Find out what matches are currently scheduled to take place at Survivor Series 2009.
The following matches have been confirmed for Survivor Series on the 22nd November at the Verizon Centre in Washington, D.C.
Traditional “Survivor Series” Match
Five-On-Five Elimination Match
Team Mickie
Mickie James
Eve Torres
Kelly Kelly
Melina
Gail Kim
Vs.
Team Michelle
Michelle McCool
Jillian Hall
Beth Phoenix
Layla
Alicia Fox
A Divas showdown was always a likely candidate for a Survivor Series event, and with a lot of tension between these competitors, we can expect things to build to a head in this match.
Mickie James will be looking to settle a score with both Michelle and Layla for the damage to her wardrobe at their hands, whilst Jillian will look to avenge her embarrassing 90 second title reign, ended by the current Divas Champion Melina.
All the Divas without gold will be looking to stake a claim for #1 contendership to their respective brands championship, and it will remain to be seen as to whether they will be able to keep their individual agendas out of this match.
Traditional “Survivor Series” Match
Five-On-Five Elimination Match
Team Morrison
John Morrison
Matt Hardy
Evan Bourne
Shelton Benjamin
Finlay
Vs.
Team Miz
The Miz
Drew McIntyre
Sheamus
Dolph Ziggler
Jack Swagger
Round 2 of the “dirt sheet” rivalry takes place in the form of another Survivor Series match-up.
The Miz and John Morrison will continue to stake their respective claims as the dominant member of their former tag team, however there may be more at stake for here The Miz than just a victory.
More recently, we have seen Jack Swagger challenge The Miz’s captaincy of the team, and it will be interesting to see whether both team-mates can remain on the same page long enough to secure victory.
John Morrison also has the opportunity to continue his long running rivalry with Dolph Ziggler, as “Mr. Ziggles” will no doubt be out to impress in order to aquire a further opportunity at the Intercontinental Championship.
Elsewhere, both Drew McIntyre and Sheamus have demonstrated just how dangerous they can be in recent weeks, with savage attacks on competitors such as Finlay, Jamie Noble and Jimmy Wang Yang, and both will be looking to continue to build upon such momentum.
Traditional “Survivor Series” Match
Five-On-Five Elimination Match
Team Kingston
Kofi Kingston
MVP
Mark Henry
R-Truth
Christian
Vs.
Team Orton
Randy Orton
Cody Rhodes
Ted DiBiase
CM Punk
William Regal
Rounding off the program of traditional elimination match-ups is this continuation of an unlikely feud.
Kofi Kingston has really begun to make a name for himself since Bragging Rights, and has pulled no punches in showing Randy Orton that he is ready for the big time, by firstly “costing” Orton the WWE Championship against John Cena, before destroying a personalised NASCAR given to him as a gift by Legacy.
Backup is provided by the team of Mark Henry and MVP, who will seek to offset any advantage that is provided by DiBiase and Rhodes, whilst R-Truth has the opportunity to gain a measure of revenge over CM Punk for the cheap loss he suffered on Smackdown a few weeks back.
Bringing up the rear are Christian and William Regal who again have the opportunity to prolong their feud over the ECW Championship, which has raged over the last 4 months.
Grudge Match
Singles Match
Batista
Vs.
Rey Mysterio
Did someone mention “underdog”?
Rey Mysterio and Batista meet in a grudge match which has seen a relationship between long-time friends and tag team partners turn sour, as Batista blamed Rey-Rey for costing him the World Heavyweight Championship at Bragging Rights.
On Smackdown last week, Batista had Mysterio sign a “hold harmless” agreement, which would ensure no recourse for Batista no matter what he did to Rey.
On paper, the odds (once again) seem to be stacked against Mysterio picking up the victory here; however, victories over Kane, Chris Jericho and The Great Khali would suggest that Mr. 619 has the capability to cause an upset.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Triple Threat Match
The Undertaker (c)
Vs.
The Big Show
Vs.
Chris Jericho
The first of two Triple Threat matches to take place at Survivor Series sees the reigning Tag Team Champions enter a match with the Phenom for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Both of the competitors are multi-time World Champions, and (as I’m sure everyone is sick of being told) the Champion does not have to be pinned for the title to change hands.
The Big Show “earned” his title shot by betraying Team Raw at Bragging Rights, whilst Chris Jericho defeated the Undertakers brother Kane, to ensure his place in this match as well.
Both men have shown in the past that they will not let anything stand in the way of Championship gold and here we will find out whether that includes each other.
The Undertaker is no stranger to seemingly impossible odds, and with a victory over Batista, CM Punk and Rey Mysterio at Bragging Rights, as well as a win over Chris Jericho (in their first ever contest) on Smackdown, few would bet against the dead man retaining here.
WWE Championship Match
Triple Threat Match
John Cena (c)
Vs.
Triple H
Vs.
Shawn Michaels
The second of the Championship Triple Threat matches continues with the same formula of a Champion defending his title against Tag Team partners, and once again, both of those partners are multi-time World Champions.
Once again the odds would seem to be heavily stacked against the champion, John Cena retaining.
It was only on Raw this week, when Triple H declared that it did not matter which member of D-Generation X won the match, as long as the title left with one of them.
With The Game and HBK being no strangers to facing off against each other, and with the WWE Championship on the line, it still remains to be seen whether Triple H’s words remain true, or whether we will once again witness a break up of D-X.
John Cena has only recently come through a punishing series of matches with Randy Orton, and has demonstrated that he has the ability to escape with victory when it would seem to be impossible.
He will need every last ounce of the resilience that saw him take the title from the Viper at Bragging Rights, in order to retain here.
