    ECW Championship Match

    Singles Match
    Christian (c)
    Vs.
    William Regal

I’m very much of the opinion that both of these guys are wasted on ECW.

Christian has proven that he’s just as much ‘main event’ material as his on-screen brother Edge, Jeff Hardy or C.M Punk, and it seems a shame that he’s probably going to be stuck on the third brand until next years roster draft.

Regal has bounced around the mid-card for what seems like the last 8 or 10 years and at first glance it seems like a good thing that he’s finally getting a shot at a ‘world’ title, even if it is one that is more on par with the IC/US belt than the WWE or World Heavyweight.

The problem is that Regal has the potential to be so much more, he’s just never been given the chance to achieve it.

Maybe I’m being blinded by patriotism, but Regal has never held a belt higher than the Intercontinental title despite his great in-ring ability and fantastic promo delivery.

Compare that to someone like The Great Khali, who has neither of those attributes yet has had a handful of Heavyweight Championship matches and even a title reign.

I’d love to see Regal carry the ECW Championship, but I think with the main purpose of the Extreme brand being to farm young/new talent, replacing Tommy Dreamer with William Regal in the main event picture is a step in the wrong direction.

Hopefully after this rivalry someone like Zack Ryder or Yoshi Tatsu will be given a main event push, but I’m not holding my breath.

Back to the match at SummerSlam; Regal seems to have enlisted the help of a couple of bodyguards and although Jackson’s turn was glaringly obvious, at least it puts to bed the debate over whether he’s a heel or a face.

Prediction: Regal to come close thanks to the help of Jackson/Kozlov, but Dreamer to save the day and help Christian retain.

    Grudge Match

    Singles Match
    Kane
    Vs.
    The Great Khali

Phew, I got a bit carried away on the ECW Championship match, so I’ll try and keep this one short and sweet.

    It’s going to suck.

    Their last two matches sucked.

The fact is that Khali can’t wrestle.

Both guys can put on a decent match against a smaller guy, but against someone equally as big it’s difficult to make either man look threatening or dominant.

It’s 1 win each based on their previous meetings, but I really couldn’t care less about that or this match. The lack of Diva matches on the card bumps this one up to ‘toilet break of the night’.

Prediction:Who cares? Hopefully Kane can pick up the win, perhaps even with a Singh turn to make it mildly interesting.

    Unified Tag Team Championships Match

    Tag Team Match
Chris Jericho & The Big Show (c)
    Vs.
    Cryme Tyme

I’m still undecided on this match.

I WANT to like Cryme Tyme. I’ve tried my best to like them, but the fact is they are pretty dull these days.

Back when they first debuted they did interesting and spontaneous things, like stealing people’s stuff and auctioning it off to the crowd. Now they explain a ‘street’ word every week and make fun of former redneck turned wannabe gangster; Jesse.

In ring they aren’t too bad, but this match has had so little hype, with what seems like such an obvious outcome, that I’m finding it really hard to get interested in it.

Show and Jericho have spent more time insulting guest hosts on Raw than they have building any sort of tension with Cryme Tyme and this match just feels like a way to get the Tag belts on the SummerSlam card than an actual competitive match.

Jericho and Show have been built up as a dominant force, they’ve got a new entrance music and have been involved in the top of the Raw card for the past two weeks, so it seems unlikely they are going to drop the titles to a fairly underused mid-card tag team.

Prediction: I can’t see anything other than a Jericho/Show victory.

    Grudge Match

    Singles Match
    Jack Swagger
    Vs.
    M.V.P

This seems like only the first in a series of matches between these two and while I think they are going to put on a great match, I’d have still rather seen Cena meet Swagger and M.V.P get a shot at the WWE Championship.

I’m never a huge fan of when the WWE use wrestler’s real life misdemeanour’s as part of the storyline, and this case is no exception, although I suppose it is comforting to see how people can turn their lives around so dramatically.

I do, on the other hand like how Swagger has continually ducked M.V.P, keeping this match as fresh as possible.

Prediction: Swagger to win by cheating and keep this feud rolling on.

    Intercontinental Championship Match

    Singles Match
    Rey Mysterio(c)
    Vs.
    Dolph Ziggler

The match at Night of Champions will hopefully have made a lot of people sit up and recognise just how good Dolph Ziggler can be.

Yes he was in the Spirit Squad and yes when he first appeared under the new gimmick, introducing himself to anyone and everyone he did seem like a bit of a joke, but since then his character has evolved and his ring work has come on in leaps and bounds.

I’ve never really cared about Rey Mysterio matches, but this one I’m pretty interested in seeing, something I credit partially to his amazing set of matches with Jericho but mainly down to the involvement of Ziggler.

I agree with the WWE creative team that putting the belt on him at Night of Champions would have been too early, both in terms of the rivalry and his career, which is why part of me hopes he doesn’t win the title at SummerSlam.

That said I wouldn’t be disappointed if he did win and I think he probably will

Prediction: Ziggler by cheating in some way or another.

    Grudge Match

    Tag Team Match
    DX
    Vs.
    Legacy

Woo DX are back again..kind of..for like the 10th time.

Triple H and HBK do work well together, but for me personally, DX was always more than just a tag team.

When I started watching DX was Triple H, X-Pac, Chyna, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn. I really liked that formula; 1 main event guy, 1 lower level guy, 1 tag team and 1 valet.

The Triple H/Michaels incarnation of DX are enjoyable to watch both in and out of the ring, but I’d love the possibility that someone else might run in on their matches to make the save, or get involved in their backstage antics.

That aside I think the way this has all been worked was pretty good, with the exception of one thing. HBK has been on the SummerSlam poster and advert since it first appeared, weeks before there was even any mention of a DX reformation, which made it even more obvious that this was going to happen.

These two teams will put on a good match that I expect DX will pretty much dominate, but the most interesting thing to see will be where it progresses from here.

Prediction:DX to gain revenge and win, unless Priceless have something else up their sleeve.

    World Heavyweight Championship Match

    TLC Match
    C.M Punk
    Vs.

    Jeff Hardy (c)

I love TLC matches. I can’t recall watching a TLC match I didn’t completely enjoy and I can’t remember watching a TLC match where I wasn’t completely disappointed that it ended.

Truth be told I subscribe to the ‘more the merrier’ theory and actually prefer TLC matches in their original form, 3 teams battling it out for the tag team titles.

Singles TLC matches are good and supposedly safer as there is more space to work in the ring without fear of clashing with someone else, but when 6 people are involved the scope for inventiveness and ‘Oh My God’ moments is tripled.

I’ve actually started to like C.M Punk since he turned and started preaching all the time, now if he’d just get a better finisher I think I could really warm to the guy.

Matt’s involvement so far has been interesting and I’ve completely no idea where they are going to go with it, but tying in with Jeff’s contract expiring I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all a long, drawn out swerve and Matt ends up siding with C.M Punk come the end of the show.

Prediction: C.M Punk to regain the title, I’m not sure how just yet though.

    WWE Championship Match

    Singles Match
    Randy Orton (c)
    Vs.
    John Cena

    Why Cena?

Seriously, practically anyone other than Cena (and maybe Triple H) would have made this match fresher and more interesting.

Cena and Orton had a fairly decent feud in 2007, but they did pretty much everything they could back then, including getting Cena’s disgruntled father involved.

Orton and Cena are 1-1 in terms of PPV matches, so if nothing else this will give one of them an edge over the other but as with the Tag Titles match I can’t see this going any other way than Orton leaving with the gold.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this match took place half way through the show, similar to how the Triple Threat did at Night of Champions.

Prediction: Orton to keep hold of the belt. If Cena wins I expect it’ll be by disqualification or count out.
