WWE No Way Out 2009 Live Results

Here you will find live results updated as and when they happen at No Way Out 2009.
Hello and welcome to WWEBlog.co.uk’s live results of No Way Out 2009!
I’m looking forward to a good night, I hope you are too and if you would like to get in touch during the show you can email me at jayd@wweblog.co.uk.
(Just a little note; this is the first live event I’ve done on the new servers, and while they are usually stable I’m not too sure how tempremental they will be when regular updates and a higher than usual volume of visitors hit them, so if you get a message about the server being busy, just try refreshing again.)
Let’s get on with the show!
Opening Match
No Way Out is underway, and the first match will be bizarrely the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship!
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match
WWE Championship Elimination Chamber order of Entry
- Edge
- Jeff Hardy
- Vladimir Kozlov
- The Big Show
- Triple H
- The Undertaker
The Undertaker, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov and Triple H have all entered the Chamber and made their way into the ‘pods’, so it looks like Edge and Jeff Hardy will be kicking things off. Before entering his little plastic cell Triple H delivered his trademark ‘arms in the air’ taunt right infront of The Big Show, seemingly enraging the giant.
Edge and Hardy begin the match well with quick back and forth wrestling that they have become known for in their numerous meetings in the past. A big reversal-fest results in Jeff Hardy rolling up Edge as he went for a Spear, getting the three count and eliminating the current champion! We are SURE to have a new champion tonight and my prediction has been shot to pieces.
Kozlov enters the match and instantly begins destroying Jeff Hardy, I predict we are in for a fairly boring few minutes until the next competitor enters.
Hardy has taken a huge amount of punishment here and although he has managed to resist being eliminated thus far, it is surely not going to bode well for his chances in this match as it progresses. The Big Show is the next to enter and things go from bad to worse for Hardy, as the freshest man in the fight makes a bee line for him and the double teaming begins.
Kozlov and Big Show play 5 minutes of ‘anything you can do, I can do better’ before a Vladimir eventually has enough of teaming up and hits his 7ft ally with a headbutt. Jeff gets a chance to recover while the two powerhouses battle, then Triple H is released from his cage and begins to destroy both of them.
The match has evened up a bit now and two individual battles have begun, Kozlov continues to destroy Hardy while The Big Show begins to get the better of Triple H. The Undertaker is pacing (I say pacing, there isn’t much room in his little cell) around and to steal a line from JR, ‘business is sure to pick up’ when he is released.
The Undertaker is out and much like Triple H did he is destroying everyone. Eliminations are surely going to come thick and fast in this one. Taker hits a massive DDT on the Big Show on the steel side of the ropes but fails to go for the pin and instead hits Old School on Triple H. Kozlov takes an oppertunity and hits Taker with a big headbutt but then gets hit with a last ride and becomes the second man to be eliminated in this match.
Jeff Hardy does the ’spiderman’ bit this year and clings onto the cage, then scurries onto the top of one of the cells. This draws Big Show to the top turnbuckle where he is superplexed by Taker (the ring looked like it almost crumbled when he hit). He then takes a Pedigree before Jeff hits a huge Swanton from the top of one of the cells and Triple H covers to eliminate him and leave 3.
Moments later Hardy takes a Tombstone and exits the match, leaving Triple H and The Undertaker to battle it out. The Undertaker hit a huge Chokeslam but it wasn’t quite enough to win the match, seconds later a big Spinebuster gets the same results for Triple H; a very very long 2 count.
Tombstone Piledriver! 1-2-Triple H gets his foot on the rope. Pedigree! Centre of the ring, another long 2 count. The crowd were actually boo’ing slightly there when it looked like Taker might lose, what a match!
This one is finally over. Just when it looked like The Undertaker might hit The Last Ride, Triple H reversed and hit another Pedigree in the centre of the ring. There were clear boo’s as the match ended but as the new champ left the ring the fans showed their appreciation for what a great match it was.
If this match has opened the show, what else must be in store tonight! That could easily have main evented practically any of last years PPV’s and tonight it has opened the show!

Opening Segment
Edge loses it
After the match Edge tells Vikki that the match should be done-over as Jeff had hold of his tights. Vikki eventually snaps and tells him he lost the match and he has no one else to blame but himself, which seems to send him into some sort of trance, perhaps as it sinks in that he is no longer the WWE Champion.
Match 2
Randy Orton Vs. Shane McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match
Before the match begins Randy appears on the Titan-Tron and delivers a promo. He asks Shane how his father is, then says tonight will be the first time in history when Vince McMahon will be completely powerless, as he watches his son ‘cry and then cry out in pain’. Orton says he will enjoy destroying the remaining components of the McMahon family and build his ‘Legacy’ out of the destruction of theirs.
Shane starts the match with a flurry of jabs, but all this seems to do is anger Orton who then begins hitting Shane with incredibly stiff right hands. Shane fights back and dumps Orton to the outside, I wonder how long it’ll be before someone grabs a weapon or Priceless get involved.
About 10 seconds is the answer to the first question, as Shane drags a table and a trashcan from under the ring. Before he can use either Orton recovers and slams Shane into the apron.
Orton gained the upper hand for a while but spent a little too long gesturing to the crowd and allowed Shane to grab a kendo stick and beat the hell out of him with it. Shane then hit Orton with a monitor and it seems to have gone badly wrong, Orton is bleeding all over the announce table. Shane looked like going for the Leap of Faith from the top rope to the announce table but surprise surprise Priceless appeared and prevented him from doing so.
Shane managed to turn the tables on Priceless and hit Cody with a Coast to Coast into the trashcan, much like he did to DiBiase on Raw. Meanwhile a crimson-faced Orton begins to stir on the announce table. Shane again sets up for a Leap of Faith but failed to connect as Orton moved, leaving him to bounce off the table.
Orton has a small tet-a-tet with DiBiase and tells him to get Cody to the back and make sure he is alright. Moments later he hits Shane with a rope-assisted DDT but only succeeded in getting a trio of near falls, he then turned his attention to the table left at ringside. He set it up with the intention of putting his opponent through it ; which he succeeds in doing with a top rope superplex but again only gets a 2 count.
Shane again manages to get the upper hand after avoiding a Punt, and then hitting a number of chair shots. Shane looked to have the match in control and began setting up for a Punt of his own, but Orton reversed it into a brilliant RKO and picked up a win in what was another brutal yet enjoyable match.
Shane McMahon might not be the most gifted wrestler but in my opinion he has a way of selling finishers better than anyone in the business today. He’s one of my favorites and I hope this isn’t the last we see of him.
Randy Orton wins by Pinfall
Match 3
Jack Swagger (c) Vs. Finlay for the ECW Championship
As much as I like Finlay I can’t really look past Swagger for this one. Swagger Vs. Christian has already given us one great match last week on ECW and I’m sure will develop into a great feud, Finlay Vs. Christian would be hard to get interested in, because as good as the match could be the rivalry would be pretty much non-existant with both guys being firm fan favorites. The only way I can see Finlay winning this one is with help from Christian, leading to a Triple Threat championship match.
So far in this match Swagger has pretty much bossed it, with a mixture of very solid technical wrestling and a number of powerful strikes. Finlay gradually begins to get the upper hand but Hornswoggle distracted him as he went for the Celtic Cross, allowing Swagger to hit his trademark Gutwrench Powerbomb and retain the ECW championship.
Jack Swagger retains the ECW Championship by Pinfall.
Segment 2
Shane Update
Very briefly Michael Cole explains that Shane has been losing conciousness since the outcome of the No Holds Barred match and has been rushed to the nearby medical facility.
Shawn Michaels is then shown backstage, he looked to be praying before his match with JBL, which is coming up next!
Match 4
JBL Vs. Shawn Michaels in an All or Nothing Match
I’m not expecting a wrestling masterclass in this one, and to be honest I’m looking forward to the outcome more than the actual match. Shawn’s wife is at ringside, theres nothing really interesting to say about that, maybe she’ll get involved and have some relevance.
Shawn started aggressively and almost got disqualified in the early going, firstly when Bradshaw tried his best to goad him into hitting him with the steel chair, and then again when HBK refused to release JBL from a Figure 4 when he had made it to the ropes.
JBL slowed the pace of the match down and took control, locking Michaels in a Bearhug. Micheals eventually fought his way out of it and looked to be building some momentum of his own with an atomic drop and some big chops before reversing a superplex on the top rope and looking for his trademark elbow. Unfortunately for Shawn this missed and then he walked straight into a Clothesline from Hell, which he then valiantly kicked out from at 2.
A second Clothesline from Hell followed, but rather than go for the pin JBL kicked Shawn’s lifeless body to the outside. Just when it looked like the match was going to end in a count-out The Heartbreak Kid’s fighting spirit kicked in again and he made it back into the ring at 9.
JBL began to chastise Shawn’s wife, which prompted her to slap him. This seemed to bring HBK back to his senses and he went on to hit the top rope elbow and the Sweet Chin Music; picking up the win and ending his financial woes.
Shawn Micheals wins by Pinfall
Segment 3
Interview with Chris Jericho
Todd Grisham asks Jericho about his chances going into the Elimination Chamber match. Jericho says he is going to win the title tonight, then challenge Flair at Wrestlemania and give him a chance to become the 17 time World Champion.
He then says he wouldn’t give flair that oppertunity really and he was only joking, but he wasn’t joking about winning the title. He says he is going to show the fans why he is the 2008 Superstar of the Year and why he will be voted Superstar of the Year 2009.
Main Event Match
World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match
World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber order of Entry
- Chris Jericho
- Rey Mysterio
- Kane
- Mike Knox
- Edge
- John Cena
John Cena, Mike Knox and Kane had already been locked up in their cells when Kofi Kingston began to enter the chamber. Before he could do so Edge jumped him from behind and hit a Con-Chair-To using the ring steps and a chair. Edge has now locked himself in one of the Cells and appears to be a participant in this match.
It sucks for Kofi, but things really did just get interesting in the Raw Elimination Chamber.
Rey Mysterio comes to check on Kofi, then makes a beeline for Edge’s cell, trying his best to attack the Rated R Superstar. Chris Jericho enters and the match begins.
Rey Mysterio just went for a shoulder tackle into Jericho in the corner, but ended up going head first into Kane’s cell when Jericho moved out of the way. The sound was nothing short of sickening and brought a smile to Kane’s face as he saw Rey crumple infront of him.
Mysterio recovers quickly and before long we see the second ’spiderman’ of the night. Rey then hung onto the roof of the cell, dropped and landed on Jericho and hit a Hurricanrana on the outside of the ring.
Kane is released into the match and heads straight for Rey, then Jericho, then for some reason Edge, staring him out through the glass of the cell.
As good as all these other guys are, and with all respect to them, this match will surely come down to Cena and Edge, it would be pretty pointless Edge being in there otherwise.
Once again Kane has been under-used. After taking a 619, a Codebreaker and a Seated Senton from the top of one of the cells, Kane has once again been defeated by Rey Mysterio. Not to mention the fact that he is the first man eliminated after being (at the time) the freshest guy in the ring.
Mike Knox is in the match and doing damage to anyone he can get his hands on. After destroying Mysterio and Jericho for the best part of 5 minutes, Knox gets hit with a Codebreaker and becomes the second man to be eliminated.
Edge is the next person to be released but before he can even leave the pod Mysterio is all over him. Jericho shows no signs of a Raw Vs. Smackdown mentality and twice prevents Mysterio from doing serious damage to Edge, but then attacks Edge himself to show he isn’t taking sides.
Jericho, Mysterio and Edge are all involved in a Sunset Flip from the top rope into a Powerbomb and German Supplex (it’s really one you have to see to understand, but rest assured it looked good.)
Cena is the final entrant to the match and much like practically everyone other than Edge before him has exploded out of his cell and taken it to everyone in the match.
Cena is eliminated in what could be record time. Cena went to hit Edge with a F-U or whatever it’s called these days, Cena was then hit with a Codebreaker, a 619 and then a Spear. Amazing scenes here, the crowd seem stunned at what has happened.
Moments later Mysterio reverses the Walls of Jericho into a roll up and eliminates Jericho. Edge sets up Rey for a Spear for what seems like an eternity but Mysterio dodges it and rolls him up for a near fall.
I’ve never liked Rey Mysterio, but this is an exciting finish to a great match. Rey gets 2 more near falls, but can’t seem to get it done. Edge goes for a Powerbomb on the outside but Mysterio reverses it then hits a backwards 619. Rey went after Edge on the outside again but gets thrown into one of the cell walls for his trouble.
Edge hits the Spear and picks up the win. Raw now has a Smackdown superstar as World Heavyweight Champion.

Final Thoughts
A very interesting night all in all and I’m happy to concede that apart from Jack Swagger retaining the ECW Championship all my predictions were useless.
Both Chamber matches were great, and while I was looking forward to seeing Kofi Kingston tear it up in the Raw bout I think sacrificing him for Edge was a masterstroke as Kofi never really had a chance of winning it if we’re honest. Also spacing them out in the way that they did made both matches stand out from one another.
Biggest let down of the night for me was the notable absence of Christian. It again seems strange that he would come back on the 3rd brand’s weekly show, then have no presence at the Pay Per View what so ever. Perhaps further evidence that he is being ‘punished’ for his exit 3 years ago.
All in all a great appetiser for Wrestlemania and it will be interesting to see where it is all going, with regards to Edge being Raw Champion, whether the HBK Vs. JBL situation has been resolved, and what part Orton will play leading up to the biggest Pay per View of the year.
