    Breaking Point 2009 Live Results

Welcome once again to our coverage of Breaking Point 2009 with me; JayD.

Tonight’s event should be an interesting one, with a lot of the matches being rather tricky to predict.

I can’t deny that I’m still a little annoyed at the removal of the Ziggler/Morrison bout but hopefully The Miz and Kofi Kingston will pull out all the stops and prove they were worthy of the spot on the card.

It’s an exciting night for us tonight as one of our prospective writers is actually in attendance at Breaking Point! Hopefully we’re going to catch a glimpse of him and perhaps even a WWEBlog.co.uk sign at some point during the show.

The tag team titles are on the line in the opener, so let’s get on with the show!

    Opening Match

    Unified Tag Team Title Match
    Jeri-Show (c)
    Vs.
    M.V.P & Mark Henry

An interesting opener here, I’d have expected the U.S Title match to be up first.

The Canadian fans are displaying their love of ‘going against the grain’ in the early going here, cheering for Jericho and The Big Show while booing Mark Henry.

Jericho was always likely to get a fond reception, being north of the border, but I didn’t expect them to get behind Show as well.

So far it’s been pretty average stuff, a nice little battle between Mark Henry and The Big Show a few moments ago, now Jericho and M.V.P are going at it with neither getting the advantage.

Blind tag from The Big Show allows him to hit M.V.P with a huge Spear to turn the match in Jeri-Show’s favour.

M.V.P almost tags Henry but Jericho cuts it off and the isolation continues.

Henry is finally tagged into the match. Things have broken down, Henry grabs a 2 count but Jericho gets his foot on the ropes.

Jericho goes for the Codebreaker… but Henry catches him and throws him up in the air instead.

Knockout Punch! Show just climbed up on the apron and drilled Henry, that has to be it!

Jericho covers for the 3 and the titles remain with the dominant tag team champs.

    Jeri-Show win by Pinfall.

    Segment 1

    Legacy Interviewed

Josh Mathews interviews Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase and asks them about their upcoming match and the fact DX have never tapped out.

Cody talked about how there are a lot of ways to make someone submit, then Ted took over and said they were the future while DX represented the past, likening them to the glow sticks they toss into the crowd, saying their glow will eventually burn out.

    Match 2

    United States Championship Match
    The Miz
    Vs.
    Kofi Kingston (c)

Before the match The Miz told the crowd (in French) that he’s The Miz, and he’s awesome. Nice little touch and it seemed to impress The King.

It’s been a fast paced start so far from both men. The Miz has been grounding Kofi pretty effectively so far but I’ve got a feeling that will change soon.

More domination from The Miz who has looked really impressive so far tonight.

Every time Kofi has managed to get even a little breathing space, The Miz has shut him down and more often than not got a 2 count into the bargain.

Almost a disqualification for The Miz as the referee had to drag him away from the corner where he was whaling on Kofi with rights and lefts.

It’s been an awful long time since Kofi landed anything of substance, surely this can’t go on much longer.

Both men trade kicks with Kofi coming out on top, although he failed to land Trouble In Paradise.

Miz goes for the Skull Crushing Finale but fails, then Kofi hits a very impressive…well I’m not sure what it was but it looked great and grabbed him a 2 count.

Kofi goes for the Boom Drop but Miz reverses it and grabs a 2 count, the action continues and boy is it fast paced.

Boom Drop! Kofi hits it the second time of asking but somehow The Miz kicks out.

Kofi heads to the top rope… Cross Body but Miz rolls through 1..2.. kick out.

Another 2 count for The Miz but he still can’t get the job done even with a handful of tights.

    Trouble in Paradise! 1..2..3.

Man that came from out of nowhere! O.K so I have to admit these guys put on a great match, I’d still rather have seen Ziggler Vs. Morrison but if it had to be replaced I’m glad it was these two guys who were put on in place.

Kofi Kingston retains the United States Championship by Pinfall.

    Match 3

Tag Team Falls Count Anywhere Submission Match
    D Generation X
    Vs.
    Legacy

Another interesting choice of match order here, I’d have put this match after the ECW title match and the Singapore cane match.

Maybe it’s some great big twist and this match will run from now until the main event, with us checking in on the action every so often.

I personally hope that doesn’t happen because it’d mess up the structure of these live results, but I have to admit it’d be a pretty cool thing to happen.

DX are in the ring and have a microphone, I’d be surprised if they didn’t to be honest.

Triple H kicks things off by saying that it sounds like the DX army are in attendance, and are they ready?

As Triple H goes through his usual promo the crowd begin a ‘You Screwed Bret’ chant which stops him in his tracks.

Triple H addresses the situation by saying it was all Shawn’s fault and he wasn’t even there so it couldn’t have been him. The chants grow even louder.

There were a few more boos as Shawn took the microphone but it all seemed quite light-hearted in comparison to some of the Montreal 97 based abuse the people involved have received.

Legacy make their entrances and the match begins.

DX immediately separate Legacy and wear down DiBiase before splitting up, with HBK taking Rhodes instead.

Triple H works on DiBiase near the announce table, slamming him into it a few times while Rhodes and Michaels head into the crowd.

This is incredibly hard to follow, all 4 men are now brawling in the crowd. It doesn’t seem like either team have got a clear upper hand right now.

HBK locks a submission on DiBiase over one of the arena’s handrails while Triple H attacks Rhodes next to a hot dog cart.

Stereo Figure 4’s from DX! This could be it early!

Rhodes rakes Michaels eyes then helps DiBiase escape the submission too as a baying crowd backstage surround them.

Everyone is back out into the arena now and brawling rather dangerously down the steps.

Stereo Headlocks from DX this time, but Legacy break free rather quickly and make their way back to ringside where DX kindly assist them by clotheslining them over the guard rail.

Triple H now has one of the fan’s limited edition steel chairs, he feeds Rhodes through the back of it and locks him in a Sharp Shooter while HBK locks on a Camel Clutch too, gruesome submission hold here!

DiBiase makes the save and the match continues.

Back in the ring now and Triple H locks on the (Crippler) Crossface but Rhodes makes the save before DiBiase taps out. I don’t think Legacy have locked on a submission yet.

Just as I typed the last sentence Rhodes applied a Torture Rack type hold on HBK but Triple H eventually made the save before turning his attention back to DiBiase.

Michaels and Rhodes head up to the back and through the crowd literally in this case, clambering over fans and their seats.

Rhodes throws Michaels off the edge of the seating area where he falls about 10ft onto some handily placed fabric covered boxes.

Triple H checks on his partner then with a seemingly new lease of life sets about destroying both members of Legacy on the ramp area, keeping them from Michaels who begins to receive medical attention.

Triple H leads both members of Legacy backstage where the numbers game inevitably catches up with him and a 2 on 1 situation ensues.

Triple H fights back and hits a Spinebuster on DiBiase through a food table!

Crossface locked in on Rhodes but DiBiase is able to recover and drills The Game with a cooler box.

Rhodes then hits Triple H with a kind of 1 man Con-chair-to before the pair of them realise HBK has recovered and make a bee-line for him, dragging him back to the ring.

HBK is showing signs of life in the ring! He takes out DiBiase but Rhodes acrobatically picks his ankle and locks in the submission.

Michaels fights out of it and removes DiBiase from the ring again before hitting Rhodes with the Sweet Chin Music. Meanwhile backstage The Game is beginning to stir in the back.

Figure 4 from Michaels on Rhodes but once again his partner is able to make the save.

HBK once again fights off both men then calls for another Sweet Chin Music but Rhodes prevents it from happening then locks in a Figure-4 around the ringpost!

As the crowd chant for Triple H, DiBiase locks in the Million Dollar Dream and this one looks as good as over.

Triple H emerges from the back and begins to crawl down the ramp but can’t make it in time as HBK taps out.

Legacy look like they are in shock and rightfully so, what a victory for them.

A very good match although more of it could have been backstage for my money, still take nothing away from these 4 guys.

    Legacy win by Submission.

    Segment 2

    Randy Orton Interviewed

Josh Mathews approaches Orton in his dressing room and asks him if he can ask 1 question; what he makes of the victory for Legacy.

Orton tells him to pull up a seat and ask him again. Josh does as he is told and Orton replies by saying he has no reaction as he knew they would win.

Mathews then attempted to ask another question but Orton cut him off and said he thought there was only one question.

Josh attempted again to ask about the I Quit match and Orton said he was the type of person who says one thing and does another, just like John Cena.

Orton says Cena claims he can’t say ‘I Quit’ but there’s no way he could say that for certain until he’s been in excruciating agony and saying those two words are the only way to relieve it.

Orton wraps things up by saying he will force Cena to say I Quit and Mathews should watch the match if he wants an answer to his question.

    Match 4

    Singapore Cane Match
    The Great Khali (w/Runjin Singh)
    Vs.
    Kane

If anyone out there needs the toilet or a drink or a sandwich or something, here’s your chance.

Both men grab canes in the early going and duke it out, sword fighting style. Khali comes out on top but moments later Kane hits a low Dropkick on the outside and begins wearing Khali out with a cane.

Kane then uses a cane (this could get confusing) to lock on an awful arm-based submission but Khali battles out and begins swinging with the cane before breaking it around Kane’s face.

Chop from Khali! 1..2.. kick out after a long 2 count, cue a ‘boring’ chant from the practically dead crowd.

Khali locks in the Vice Grip but Kane is able to break free thanks to a few shots from… you guessed it, a cane.

Kane begins to call for a Chokeslam but Singh jumps into the fray and tries to incapacitate the Big Red Machine with a cane.

Khali makes the save with another Chop, but then wastes time checking on Singh and gets caught with another cane-shot.

Chokeslam! 1..2..3! The crowd seem to love that result, although as predicted the match was a complete dud.

Please, whoever is writing this garbage; put an end to it and move both guys on to new things.

    Kane wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    C.M Punk Interviewed

C.M Punk is the next person in line to be interviewed, this time by Eve… I think.

Eve asked Punk about his title match against Taker which is coming up soon.

Punk says he’s done a lot of talking in the build up to this match (too right) so he’ll keep it short.

He says no one is giving him a chance against The Undertaker, but then no one gave him a chance in TLC at SummerSlam and he proved everyone wrong.

He then moved on to Jeff Hardy’s run in with the law which we covered in The Smackdown Summary.

Just as he continued to talk about not being scared of The Undertaker the lights dimmed and Eve began screaming.

The lights then came back up and it was revealed that Jimmy Wang Yang had infact turned them off and on.

Wang Yang laughed and then wished Punk good luck, extending his hand.

Punk shook his hand but then headbutted him and beat him down, before again saying that it’s Taker who should be scared.

    Match 5

    ECW Championship Match

    Christian (c)
    Vs.
    William Regal

Christian received a rousing ovation from the Canadian crowd although from what I could hear Regal’s reception wasn’t that bad either.

Before the match began ECW ring announcer Tony Chimmel explained that by order of G.M Tiffany, Jackson and Kozlov are banned from ringside. Furthermore if they don’t leave immediately Regal forfeits his title match.

The crowd sing Jackson and Kozlov up the ramp and the match begins.

Regal begins the match much more positively than the one at SummerSlam, and by that I mean he’s managed to make it past the first 8 seconds without losing.

All joking aside, Regal did control the opening moments of this one; landing a lot of his brutal offence and scoring a couple of near falls in the process.

Christian begins to fight back but Regal plants him with a huge Knee to the face that scores him another 2 count.

It’s all Regal at the moment although he looks to be setting up a Superplex so that could all change in a split second.

The momentum does indeed turn as Christian is able to reverse the Superplex into a big Jumping DDT from the second rope which gets a long 2 count.

Back and forth now, Christian going for the KillSwitch but Regal reverses into a ‘Regal-Plex’ which not only looked amazing but also came very close to winning the match.

Regal begins trash talking Christian but it only seems to fire up the champ more and he starts to take control of the match.

I’m not quite sure I believe what I’ve just seen, William Regal just hit a Rolling-Senton.

Knee Trembler…no! Christian avoids it and quickly hits a KillSwitch!

1..2..3! It’s over and Christian has somehow managed to retain the ECW Championship in a bout he never really looked like winning.

Christian retains the ECW Championship by Pinfall.

    Segment 4

    Pat Patterson?

Pat Patterson is introduced and he comes to the ring and says something in French before talking about how he began his career in Montreal and now is known as the first ever Intercontinental Champion… hmm I wonder where this is going.

On a side note, is Pat a descendent of Barney Rubble? Not only do they look alike but they’ve got similar voices too.

Patterson begins to introduce someone but Dolph Ziggler’s music hits instead and the cocky young upstart makes his way to the ring.

Patterson makes fun of Ziggler a little, but then gives credit where credit is due and says Ziggler has a lot of talent and a big career infront of him, wishing him luck for the future.

Ziggler stops Patterson as he tries to leave and then takes the microphone.

He calls Patterson a senior citizen and asks if the retirement home knows if he’s snook out, then says until he saw him come to the ring tonight he thought he was dead.

Ziggler asks why they are wasting valuable PPV time on an old fossil who no one cares about, inciting a ‘Shut the F**K up’ chant from the crowd.

He continues to make pops at Patterson’s age, then says he was just having a little fun and he’s a great guy.

Ziggler then calls Patterson a coward and drops him with a kick to the stomach before stalking around the ring until Morrison enters to make the save.

    Match 6

    WWE Championship I Quit Match
    Randy Orton (c)
    Vs.
    John Cena

As Randy orton makes his way to the ring Michael Cole explained that if anyone interferes in this match his behalf he will immediately be stripped of the WWE Championship, which instantly puts Gabe’s prediction out of the window…or does it?

Notice the stipulation is specifically worded that if anyone interferes ‘on behalf of Randy Orton’ he is stripped of the title.

Anyway, spectacular theories aside this is surely going to be a fantastic match.

Boy did this get going quickly! Orton was bounced off the announce table just a few moments into the match, then recovered and drilled Cena with one of the announce table monitors before hitting him with the rope-assisted DDT.

The referee asked Cena if he wanted to quit just before the DDT but he flatly refused.

Orton has now set up a chair in the centre of the ring and looks to be setting up the RKO.

Cena counters and hits a couple of shoulder tackles followed by a Five Knuckle Shuffle and almost an Attitude Adjustment, but Orton was able to use the ropes to escape then hung Cena up.

Orton warms up for the Punt but again Cena counters and looks for the STF, however Orton slips out of it.

Steel steps to Cena’s face. The crowd are completely divided by this one, half seem to be behind Cena while the other half are cheering every Orton attack.

Orton sets Cena up on the bottom half of the steel steps and brutally stamps on his head, but still he refuses to quit.

Orton has now found some handcuffs which he clicks first around Cena’s wrist and then the top rope. He places the key around his neck and begins picking Cena apart, it doesn’t look good for the challenger at the minute.

Cena still refuses to quit so Orton drills him with the microphone before inexplicably unlocking him from the ropes, cuffing Cena’s hands together instead.

Orton hangs Cena up on the ringpost then begins working on his ribs and head with big right hand shots, before throwing water in his face and telling him he isn’t going to pass out on him.

Orton again asks Cena if he wants to quit but Cena spits water in his face and defiantly says ‘No’ once again.

Randy then grabs a couple of Singapore Canes and swings away to the midsection and head, but Cena still refuses to quit and then hits a low blow.

Cena’s stomach is a real mess, ripped to shreds by the cane shots.

Chair shot to Cena, surely he can’t take much more of this.

Orton unlocks one of Cena’s wrists then attaches him to one of the turnbuckles before picking up the steel chair once more and wrapping it around Cena’s back.

Cena again refuses to quit despite clearly being in agony, which looks to have tipped Orton over the edge.

Orton avoids another chair shot then Back Body Drop’s Orton, snatching the key from around his neck and finally free’s himself, before handcuffing himself to his opponent.

Cena fires back into life, bouncing Orton across the announce tables then rolling him back into the ring and wearing Orton down with hard shots to the midsection.

Orton reverses the Attitude Adjustment right into an RKO then starts crawling towards the handcuff key, but Cena recovers and is able to pull him back while the crowd begin to chant ‘Lets go Orton/Lets go Cena’

Cena locks in the STF using the handcuffs and Orton..Quits!

John Cena is the new WWE Champion! Well I can’t say I’m pleased about it, but I kind of half expected it to happen.

A good match but incredibly hard to report back, apologies if it didn’t read too well.

John Cena wins the WWE Championship.

    Main Event Match

    World Heavyweight Championship Match

    Submission Match
    C.M Punk (c)
    Vs.
    The Undertaker

This match had what seemed like an incredibly long build up but finally The Undertaker emerged and walked through the fog and flame, still dressed in his new slightly more gothic attire.

Finally things get underway and Punk quickly exits the ring before Taker can even get his hands on him.

We’ve got some action at last as Taker catches up with the slippery champion and begins to dominate, throwing rights and lefts in the corner.

The Undertaker dumps Punk to the outside for the second time in this match, then follows him and continues to control things.

Big irish whip into the barricade from The Deadman, but he fails to follow it up and hangs himself up over the railing allowing Punk to land some offence at last.

Steel chair to the ribs and head of The Undertaker, but he stays on his feet with the help of the ring apron then crawls back inside.

Taker is back in the driving seat now as this one continues to flip back and forth… and just like that Punk regains the upper hand by reversing ‘Old School’ and hitting a Superplex.

Undertaker wins a Slugfest with the support of the crowd, then follows it up with a Big Boot/Legdrop before calling for the Chokeslam.

Punk avoids the Chokeslam with a Kick to the head but then immediately crawls into the Hells Gate and Punk taps out!

Wow, I didn’t expect it to end so suddenly!

We have a new World Champion folks!

I feel kind of bad for Punk, this is the second time he’s been used as a transitional champion and I hope he gets another shot at the gold in the near future.

Wait a second, Teddy Long has just walked out onto the stage.

He informs everyone that the Hells Gate submission was banned by Vickie Guerrero and it still remains in place, therefore the match will continue!

It seems quite convenient that they acknowledge the banning of move now, yet have completely disregarded it in the past.

Punk locks on the Anaconda Vise…the bell rings..wait what the hell just happened?

Taker didn’t tap out, the referee almost immediately called for the bell and awarded Punk the victory before fleeing up the ramp with the champion leaving Taker confused in the ring and the crowd completely stunned.

Teddy Long stands at the top of the ramp completely stoney faced next to Punk, who holds his title aloft and celebrates.

Numerous replays are shown of Undertaker NOT tapping out and the referee calling it, much like Montreal 97, just in case anyone didn’t realise that was the effect they were going for.

What a great ending to the show and I’m very curious as to where this goes from here, especially with Teddy Long saying he has a ‘landscape changing’ announcement this week.

C.M Punk retains the World Heavyweight Championship by Submission.
