    Breaking Point 2009 Confirmed Matches & Mini-Preview

    breaking-point-banner ⓒ World Wrestling Entertainment

Find out what matches are currently scheduled to take place at Breaking Point 2009.

The following matches have been confirmed for Breaking Point on the 13th September at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

    Intercontinental Championship Match

    Singles Match
    Dolph Ziggler
    Vs.
    John Morrison (c)

This match was originally billed as the third PPV bout between Ziggler and Mysterio, where many had tipped the cocky young up and comer to finally pick up his first piece of singles gold.

However, due to Rey falling foul of the WWE Wellness Policy and subsequently being banned for 30 days, he dropped the belt to John Morrison in a Match of the Year candidate just 9 days before Breaking Point.

Despite the limited time available to build a rivalry between the two, Morrison and Ziggler have shown in the past that they are more than capable of putting on a quality match against one another and this should be no exception.

    United States Championship Match

    Singles Match
    The Miz
    Vs.
    Kofi Kingston

For some reason the Intercontinental match between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler was pulled from the Breaking Point card and replaced with this one.

The reason is supposedly due to Morrison and Ziggler not having enough time to build up a decent rivalry, although Kofi and The Miz have also had very little in the way of a rivalry too.

The Miz has been claiming he will be the next United States champion for a few weeks now and at Breaking Point he gets the chance to take the gold from crowd-favourite Kofi Kingston in a one on one match.

    Unified Tag Team Championship Match

    Tag Team Match
Chris Jericho & The Big Show
    Vs.
    M.V.P & Mark Henry

Jeri-Show continued their dominance of the tag division at SummerSlam by defeating Cryme Tyme. They didn’t have to wait long for more challengers as Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather gifted M.V.P and a partner of his choosing a title match provided they could first beat the champs in a non-title match.

M.V.P made a shrewd choice of partner in The Worlds Strongest Man; Mark Henry and with a small assist from Mayweather beat Jeri-Show to earn a shot at the titles.

Just 5 days before Breaking Point M.V.P and Henry embarrassed Jericho and The Big Show by beating them in a singles match and a Bodyslam contest respectively, giving them all the momentum in the world going into the title match.

Can Jeri-Show keep hold of the Tag Titles or have they finally met their match?

    Grudge Match

    Singapore Cane Match
    The Great Khali
    Vs.
    Kane

Kane and Khali wrestled out a downright awful match at SummerSlam which saw Kane pick up a victory by using Runjin Singh as a distraction.

Rather than burying this rivalry and never mentioning it again, the creative team have seen fit to spin it out into yet another PPV match.

The concept of Breaking Point has flip-flopped around so much in the month leading up to it (originally touted as every match being submission based, then just ‘main events’ being submission based) it’s unclear whether this match will have to end in a submission.

Can the inclusion of Singapore Cane’s make yet another Kane Vs. Khali match interesting? Only time will tell.

    ECW Championship Match

    Singles Match
    Christian (c)
    Vs.

    William Regal

Regal and Christian look to continue their rivalry at Breaking Point following Mr. Regal’s embarrassing 8 second record-breaking loss at SummerSlam.

There’s no doubt both Jackson and Kozlov will have some sort of presence in this match, although Tommy Dreamer still has unfinished business with Regal and his posse and will more than likely be happy to watch his friend’s back.

    Grudge Match

Tag Team Falls Count Anywhere Submission Match
    D Generation X
    Vs.
    Legacy

Despite gaining a modicum of revenge over Legacy at SummerSlam DX still aren’t done with the team of Rhodes and DiBiase.

Many fans were surprised by just how competitive Legacy made the match at SummerSlam and it is due to this that the match at Breaking Point should be one of the highlights of the night.

Throw the ‘Falls Count Anywhere’ stipulation into the mix and this has the potential to turn into a real old-school hardcore style brawl through the crowd, backstage, parking lot and even possibly the surrounding area.

While this might not be great for the fans in attendance, it is sure to be brilliant for those watching at home.

    World Heavyweight Championship Match

    Submission Match
    C.M Punk (c)
    Vs.

    The Undertaker

Anyone else would have had to win at least a #1 contendership match, but such is the ‘phenomenal’ power of The Undertaker all he has to do is show up and attack the champ to be gifted a title bout at the very next Pay Per View.

However, with the departure of Jeff Hardy, and Chris Jericho tied up with the Tag Titles on Raw, the top of the Smackdown card is looking decidedly bare so there couldn’t be a better time for The Deadman to make his triumphant return to the Blue Brand.

Niether Punk nor Taker are particularly renowned for tapping out, but both men have a devastating submission manoeuvre in their arsenal and the interest here will come from seeing just who will ‘break’ first.

    WWE Championship Match

    I Quit Match
    Randy Orton (c)
    Vs.
    John Cena

Given the catalogue of farcical events that led up to Cena losing the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam, it’s unsurprising that he has been given a second chance to claim the gold, this time in the punishing and often humiliating confines of an I Quit match.

Cena came within seconds of making Orton tap out the last time they met for the title, which undoubtedly makes him the favourite.

However, Orton hasn’t held the title for almost 5 months (disregarding Batista’s 1 night run as Champion after Extreme Rules) by dumb luck alone and the Legend Killing viper is sure to have something up his sleeve.

Will Orton retain his title or will Cena be the person to take the WWE Championship from him? Follow our Live Results on the night to find out!
