Royal Rumble 2012 Live Results!
Match 1
World Heavyweight Championship Cage Match
Daniel Bryan (c)
Vs.
The Big Show
Vs.
Mark Henry
Hello and welcome to our coverage of The Royal Rumble 2012!
Writing up The Rumble is a labour of love for me. It’s my favourite PPV of the year, and the event we launched WWEBlog on way back in 2008!
As such I’m going to be keeping the results fairly brief so I can enjoy things too, but I’ll be doing an ‘aftermath’ article following the event which looks over all the results and the potential implications going forward to WrestleMania.
We’re kicking off with the World Heavyweight Championship Cage Match, I’ll be right back to you when something interesting happens!
Big Show just scared a child on his way to the ring when trying to give away his hat, it’s boding well already for the guy who’s ‘no Andre the Giant’.
Bryan instantly tries to escape the cage, but Henry pulls him back in and Show spears him for a 2 count.
Show has just pinned Henry between the ropes and the cage and Splashed him 3 times, that’s Henry out of it until the finish I’d wager.
Show just went for the WMD on Bryan, but the champ ducked and Show’s massive hand cracked into the cage support.
I take it back, Henry’s back up and he’s whompin’ on Bryan, who tried to sneak out the door.
Superkick from The Big Show?! The Giant’s back in charge now.
Stiff shots to Bryan’s back, he’s selling his frustration well.
The momentum swings back to Henry now, as he floors Show and chokes Bryan by standing on his neck.
Spear! Both giants are down, Bryan slithers into a cover on Henry! 1..2.. Kick out!
Shows up again, calling for the Chokeslam! Bryan avoids it and hits a Spinning DDT from the top rope, perfectly executed!
1..2.. Kick out with authority!
LeBell Lock!
Will Show tap? No, Henry makes the save and instantly goes on the offensive again.
WMD on Henry! 1..2.. Bryan makes the save and begins to flee over the top of the cage!
He’s almost over, but Show grabs him around the neck to drag him back in!
Duelling on the top of the cage now! Show’s actually on top of the cage! Bryan’s hanging from his arm!
He drops! Retains the title!
That was a lame finish to what looked like it was going to be quite promising.
Sluggish match, but exactly what you’d expect from one featuring an injured guy and the slowest Superstar in the company.
Elimination Chamber advert focusing entirely on Sheamus, so I guess he isn’t winning The Rumble.
Daniel Bryan escapes the cage and retains the World Heavyweight Championship.
Match 2
8 Diva Tag Team Match
Beth Phoenix, Natalya & The Bellas
Vs.
Kelly Kelly, Eve, Tamina & Alicia Fox
Ah the good old ‘throw them all in one big match’ mentality strikes again in the Divas Division.
Natalya and Tamina, the only ones with a real rivalry in this match, kick off.
Tamina gets the upper hand and tags in Eve who hits the ‘Booty Pop Eve Drop’ (that’s seriously what it’s called.)
The heels are back in control with Beth now though, and she gets a 2 count fall.
Here comes Alicia, I could watch her all night, which says a lot for her looks given the quality of wrestling she’s accustomed to turning out.
Although saying that, this match has been well wrestled by all involved.
Here comes Kelly though, who still doesn’t seem to have mastered running the ropes.
Things have broken down, we’ve got a ‘dirty brawl’ according to Booker.
Sorry, he actually said ‘Divas Brawl’, but I prefer the first version.
Everyone brawling on the outside bar Kelly… and she flies off the top rope to take everyone out.
BRUTAL tag from Beth on one of The Bellas, she slapped her on the back hard, and yelled ‘get out of my ring!’
Glam Slam! 1..2…3. It’s all over!
Good Divas match actually, at least in terms of wrestling.
Beth Phoenix, Natalya & The Bellas win by Pinfall.
Segment 1
VIP Treatment
Backstage some nobody is wheeling Zack Ryder around.
Ryder says he’s all busted up, but he needed to be at the arena to watch Cena destroy Kane (does he not know about Pay Per View?)
Laurinaitis appears and tells Ryder he’s got his own dressing room and all his favourite snacks etc.
Eve springs up and takes over wheelchair duty and tells Johnny exactly what she thinks of him, mainly that he’s an ass and she hopes he gets fired.
Match 3
Singles Match
John Cena
Vs.
Kane
The boos for Cena seem to be louder than ever tonight, and he’s openly acknowledging them as he did in a promo that played earlier in the show.
Kane gets the pyro treatment and has a slightly different entrance for the PPV, which is nice to see.
Fast paced start here, with Kane wearing Cena out in the turnbuckle.
Lets go Cena/Cena Sucks bellowing around the arena, the crowd seem really into this match.
Cena’s going for the AA! But his legs give way, for some reason, and he drops The Big Red Monster to the canvas.
Cena and Kane exchange punches with the crowd doing the whole ‘Yeah/Boo’ thing, but they were actually cheering Kane’s shots and booing Cena’s, I’ve never seen something like that happen.
In fact pretty much everything Kane does is getting cheered, and everything Cena does is getting booed.
The commentators are talking about how nice John Laurinaitis has been since his job was threatened.
He apparently offered King a cup of coffee and said he’d park Michael Cole’s car.
Kane’s locked in the Mandible Claw!
Cena’s fading…
Reversed into a Crippler Crossface! But Kane rolls through and hits a Side Slam.
Jumping Jack off the top rope! Kane’s calling for the Chokeslam…
Cena reverses, hits his Shoulder Blocks and Spin-Out Backbreaker.
He’s going for the 5-Knuckle Shuffle… But Kane catches him around the throat!
He can’t hit the Chokeslam, but he continues to dominate.
Kane goes for a Superplex, but Cena knocks him to the canvas and hits a 5-Knuckle Shuffle from the top rope!
He’s setting up for the AA! But Kane escapes it.
Very strange looking Dropkick to Kane’s knee, it was very Vincent Kompany-esque.
Both men are brawling on the outside now, and heading up the ramp.
And the official counts them out.
The brawl continues though, and Cena blasts Kane with some sort of big box.
The action is heading backstage!
Kane’s got a chair! He wraps it right across Cena’s back!
Cena’s out, and Kane just spotted Ryder’s locker room!
He just booted the door down, and now he has the Mandible Claw on a near crippled Ryder!
He’s wheeling him out to the ring now, this can’t be good for Zack.
Kane dumps him out of the chair, hard to the mat, then tosses him in the ring.
Eve’s here to save the day! Although what she’s going to do I’m not sure…
Tombstone to Ryder with Eve looking on! A proper Kane-style one too with both legs over 1 shoulder!
Here comes Cena… Right into a Chokeslam!
Kane has dominated here, will he do the same at The Rumble?
A video hyping The Rock plays next. What with that and the Cena one earlier, plus footage from Raw, this show has been about 40% video packages.
Not too impressed with that given we’ve paid £15 to watch it.
Match ends in a Double Count Out.
Match 4
Singles Match
Drew McIntyre
Vs.
Brodus Clay
Apparently Drew was annoyed he wasn’t in The Rumble, so Teddy Long gave him this match.
Firstly getting squashed by Clay isn’t exactly a treat, and secondly why the hell isn’t he in The Rumble.
I assume Clay’s going to be in the Rumble though.
He’s got a Jurassic Park themed logo on his ass, it looks pretty cool despite it’s placement.
Brodus just did the jiggle after taking an early beating. Ho Train! Into the What the Funk!
1..2..3!
Clay wins!
Brodus Clay wins by Pinfall.
Match 5
WWE Championship Match
C.M Punk (c)
Vs.
Dolph Ziggler
Guest Referee: John Laurinaitis
I really, REALLY want to watch this one, so once the bell rings things will likely get quiet, but I’ll get back to you when the match ends with all the key points.
Laurinaitis is in the ring, he says in the interests of fairness he’s going to officiate the match from the outside, with an official WWE referee doing the job in-ring.
So he’s an enforcer, not a referee?
Vickie has also been ejected from ringside, as per the stipulation set earlier.
Anyway, stick with us folks, don’t forget to vote in our poll, and we’ll be back soon with the outcome of this bout and the Royal Rumble match itself!
Brilliant match so far, after starting a little slow.
Some lovely reversals, some amazingly well delivered impact moves and some near falls both way.
No involvement from Laurinaitis so far though…
Ref bump!
Anachonda Vise! Ziggler’s tapping! But Laurinaitis is checking on the official and missed it!
Punk remonstrates with Laurinaitis, but Ziggler rolls up! Punk rolls it through, but once again the Interim G.M is too busy checking on the downed ref.
Laurinaitis bump! Punk picked Ziggler up for a GTS and caught Johnny with his feet!
GTS!
Laurinaitis is refusing to count, claiming Punk hit him.
Punk’s going for another GTS… reversed into a Fameasser!
The ref is back up!
1..2… Punk just barely kicks out!
GTS! 1..2..3! it’s over, and Laurinaitis rolled into the ring to make the count alongside the referee.
I don’t really get that…
What could have been a brilliant match boiled down into a bit of an angle, and Ziggler ended up looking weak as hell.
C.M Punk wins by Pinfall and retains the WWE Championship.

Key Moments
Who do you think would win?
We’re just about to get the Rumble under-way, so lets check the results of our poll!
Shockingly 26% of you, the majority, think that The Undertaker will win The Rumble!
Cena, Orton, Jericho, Barrett and Daniel Bryan are all tied for 2nd place!
Miz has a microphone, I guess we’re not starting just yet!
He says that every Superstar backstage has been laughing at him, thinking he’s scared that he’s the #1 entrant.
But he says they are the same Superstars who told him he’d never make it in the WWE, and he always proves them wrong.
He says he’ll be the last man standing and headline Mania.
Because he’s The Miz… and he’s Awesome.
After being eliminated Truth dragged Miz UNDER the ropes and drilled him into the floor with his version of Pay-Dirt.
Del Rio’s music hit and the crowd went crazy! Then it turned out to be Ricardo Rodriguez, who made a full Alberto entrance right down to the scarf!
Amazing, the crowd are completely behind him too!
Foley and Santino had a sock-off.
Michael Cole’s utter dismay at both his announce partners entering The Rumble was brilliant.
Kingston just walked on his hands half way around the damn ring to avoid elimination.
VERY risky, as one little slip and he would be eliminated when he wasn’t supposed to be.
Cole jumped up when his music hit, stripped to his orange all-in-one and donned his headgear!
I guess he’s out of retirement.
KHARMA IS BACK! AND I FREAKIN CALLED IT!
She hit Ziggler with an Implant Buster too, but got too drawn in by Vickie Guerrero on the outside.
Despite it being The Rumble, Jericho made his usual entrance, lights out, the lot.
Swagger got eliminated just as Show arrived, and suffered the stiffest Knockout Punch I can recall.
Down to show, Jericho, Orton and Sheamus and everyone decides to team up on The Giant.
HUGE RKO!
Jericho shows his experience and dumps Orton out right after The Viper eliminated Show.
Orton’s hometown crowd popped big style when he went out too!
Sheamus looks to have Jericho almost eliminated in the corner…
Jericho gets back into the match but… Irish Curse!
Celtic Cross over the top?! No, Jericho jumps off! He knocks Sheamus over the top, but he hangs on!
Dropkick, he still holds on!
Missile over the top rope! Sheamus is in the driving seat again!
Jericho flies over! But he hangs on too! Shades of HBK as he tries not to let his feet touch!
Both men are on the top rope…
They spill to the apron, but both get back inside.
Codebreaker! Jericho covers, he must be trolling again.
Jericho goes over again but holds on! PUMP KICK!
Sheamus wins! Sheamus wins!
2012 Royal Rumble Winner
Sheamus
The End Bit
Well we didn’t see that coming at all.
In fact we only gave him a 40/100 chance of winning, so I guess we officially know nothing.
Just like Del Rio last year, this has to go down as a shock though.
And while we’re on the subject, where the hell was Skip Sheffield?
Ah well.
In all seriousness though, it’s nice to see Sheamus back on top, he deserves a spot at Mania, the question now is who will he be facing?
Thanks for following the event with us, we hope you consider joining us for Raw tomorrow night and keep checking back for our Royal Rumble aftermath article!
Goodnight everybody!
