WrestleMania XXVI Live Results!
Hello everyone and welcome to WrestleMania XXVI LIVE Results!
Just in case you’re not in the Mania mood quite yet (seriously though, why aren’t you?!) here’s something to help out and to tide you through while the opening credits are rolling:
Meanwhile back in Arizona…
Someone named Fantasia is singing America the Beautiful. I don’t know who she is, but I thought she was pretty good.
That wasn’t a verdict shared by others at WWEBlog Towers however, with one person commenting that she sounded like a dying cat.
While the opening videos play I’m pleased to announce our WrestleMania poll is closed, and the results are in…
39% of our fans are most looking forward to HBK Vs. The Undertaker!
Cena Vs. Batista came second with 24% of votes and Vince Vs. Bret came in third with just 13%
Surprisingly not a single person said they were looking forward to the opening match tonight, which is up right now!
Match 1
WWE Unified Tag Team Championship Match
ShowMiz (c)
Vs.
R-Truth & John Morrison
We’ve got a three-man commentary team for tonight’s show, with King and Cole being joined by Matt Striker.
More importantly, there’s a Spanish Announce Team! And where there’s a Spanish Announce Team there has to be a Spanish Announce Table!
The question on everyone’s lips has to be will it make it to the end of the show?
The bell rings and this match is under-way.
It’s not looking very good for Morrison and Truth if Michael Cole’s doom-mongering is to be believed.
The Tag Titles haven’t changed hands at WrestleMania in the past 9 years, and not a single member of the WWEBlog team predicts that they will tonight either.
Show’s tagged in and he’s dominating already.
Spoke too soon, he went for a 2nd rope move and as per usual it failed.
Morrison and Miz going at it now, both guys look absolutely pumped to be here tonight.
Starship Pain! No, Show pulls his partner out of the way just in time, then catches a springboarding R-Truth and wraps his back around the ring post.
Blind tag from The Big Show, who hits a Knock Out Punch on Morrison!
1..2..3! It’s all over!
Wow, that happened quickly! It lasted all of 8 minutes or so!
ShowMiz retain the Unified Tag Team Championships by Pinfall.
Match 2
Triple Threat Match
Randy Orton
Vs.
Ted DiBiase
Vs.
Cody Rhodes
Many of us predicted that Legacy would completely explode at the climax of this match, but watching the entrances it appears that it might have happened already.
Both Rhodes and DiBiase entered separately, with their own personal entrance music and in new attire. They may as well have walked out and announced the split right there and then.
Anyway, the bell rings and immediately Priceless begin to gang up on Orton.
Orton battled back for all of a minute, but now the numbers game has caught up with him.
DiBiase and Rhodes are picking apart the Viper, but surely it’s only a matter of time before they turn on each other.
Big ‘Randy’ chant from the crowd. At least I think that’s what it is, the arena is so open most of the crowds participation has just sounded like generic noise so far.
Orton’s fighting back! But DiBiase puts an end to it.
High N’ Low from Priceless. Or Sweet N’ Sour if anyone out there remembers Murdoch and Cade.
DiBiase goes for the cover… and Rhodes breaks it up!
After a brief coming together Rhodes dumps DiBiase out of the ring and hits the Alabama Slam! Nod to his former mentor Hardcore Holly.
Rhodes covers.. 1..2.. DiBiase breaks it up!
The two men are brawling now as we expected they would.
Orton is slowly recovering on the other side of the ring.
Orton explodes off the ropes and takes both men down!
Scoop Slams all round, Orton’s calling for it…..
Trademark Backbreaker!
More miscommunication from Priceless after they prevent the RKO.
Orton is setting DiBiase up for the Rope-Assisted DDT… and now Rhodes too!
Stereo DDT’s!
Orton’s setting Rhodes up for the RKO….
Wait, he’s standing up….
PUNT!
DiBiase sneaks into the ring and looks for Dream Street, but Orton reverses it and hits the RKO!
1..2..3! It’s all over and the crowd are loving it!
Not quite as dramatic as I expected it to be, but impressive none the less. As Orton poses on the top rope the screens above the ring lower and display his logo behind him for a great photo opportunity.
Randy Orton wins by Pinfall.
Segment 1
Divas Interviewed
Backstage Josh Mathews delivers a huge build-up that leads us to believe he’ll be interviewing Shawn Michaels.
However, Vickie Guerrero and her ‘team’ are brought in.
She says that they are going to create a WrestleMania moment that will be remembered forever, then brings Jillian Hall into shot, allowing her to sing ‘Simply The Best’.
Santino enters half way through and plugs Slim Jims, saying anything can happen when you bite into one.
On his first bite Jillian turns into Mae Young, on the second Mean Gene and the third Melina, who he chooses to leave with.
Match 3
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Evan Bourne
Vs.
Jack Swagger
Vs.
MVP
Vs.
Christian
Vs.
Shelton Benjamin
Vs.
Kane
Vs.
Dolph Ziggler
Vs.
Matt Hardy
Vs.
Drew McIntyre
Vs.
Kofi Kingston
Now in my experience, Money in the Bank matches are notoriously hard to cover, not to mention that this one now has 10 entrants.
So, with that in mind I’ll try my best to cover all the high spots and obviously the near-grabs and outcome.
McIntyre takes a finisher-fest in the early stages, before pretty much everyone else in the match tries to climb a single ladder.
Bourne and Hardy both get hands to the briefcase, but neither have chance to unhook it.
Kane Chokeslams Bourne over the top rope, right onto M.V.P on the outside.
ZigZag on Christian from about half way up the ladder!
Ziggler climbs the ladder but M.V.P pulls him back down to the canvas, which he hits HARD.
Kingston, Benjamin and M.V.P trap Kane in the corner with a ladder, which Kofi tries to run up, but fails pretty miserably. It’s been a bit of a botch-fest so far.
PayDirt on M.V.P!
Christian and Matt Hardy have made some sort of ladder super-structure in the middle of the ring, but Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger stop them from grabbing the briefcase.
Christian goes for the KillSwitch on the structure, but Bourne pushes him off and then rather than going for the briefcase hits a huge Shooting Star Press.
Huge bump for Bourne and Hardy!
Hardy throws Bourne off the top rung of the ladder right to the canvas, but then Swagger throws Hardy over the top of the ladder, right down onto another one propped up on the ropes.
The ring is cleared now, as Kane begins to clean house on the outside.
Kane’s climbing! But Ziggler climbs over him and goes for the briefcase!
The Big Red Machine tips the ladder and the match continues!
Kane throws a ladder at Ziggler, but he ducks and it almost ends up in the front row! Man there would have been some big lawsuits there if that had gone much further!
Ziggler Chokeslammed on a ladder, which Kane then splits in two!
Trouble in Paradise! But Kingston only has two separate halves of ladders.
Ingeniously he uses them like stilts and begins to head towards the briefcase!
Drew McIntyre makes the save and begins to climb himself.
Hardy’s trying to make the save, but he looks pretty beaten up.
McIntyre knocks him from the ladder, but Hardy tips it over and the Sadistic Scot ends up straddling the top rope!
Hardy has his hands on the briefcase! Christian took far too long getting across to him and he had to play like he couldn’t get the thing unhooked.
Duelling ladders now, with Christian and Hardy battling it out. Christian hits a reverse DDT from the top of the ladder! Michael Cole incorrectly calls it as a Twist of Fate.
Christian has his hands on the briefcase now! But Swagger’s there this time to try and make the save!
Swagger swings the briefcase right into his face, knocking him off the ladder!
After what seems like 20 minutes Swagger finally unhooks the briefcase and picks up the win.
This was the one I’d been looking forward to most, but to be brutally honest it was a botch-fest from start to finish.
Admittedly there were some nice spots in it, and the result was unexpected, but I think 10 men was just too much.
Interestingly Swagger said last week that if he won, he might cash it in on the night, so we’ll have to see what happens…
Jack Swagger wins the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Segment 2
Hall of Fame Class of 2010
After a video of last night’s induction ceremony the class of 2010 (or their representatives) made their way out onto the top of the ramp and played to the crowd as Howard Finkel introduced them.
Congratulations to them all from everyone here at WWEBlog.
Ted DiBiase clearly got the biggest pop of them all, but the crowd showed their appreciation for each and every member.
Match 4
Singles Match
Triple H
Vs.
Sheamus
So what’s everyone thinking of the show so far?
Drop us an email to contactus@wweblog.co.uk or use our Contact page to let us know what you think, you might even get a mention!
It doesn’t feel like the show has gotten going properly yet, and I can’t believe we’re over an hour in and the damn Divas match hasn’t been on yet.
If they shove it between the title matches or something I swear I’ll scream.
Anyway, Triple H and Sheamus are ready to go now, so lets get back to the action in the ring!
Sheamus starts cocky, telling The Game that he’s the future after slapping him back into a corner.
Triple H retaliates with a big slap of his own, then attempts a Pedigree but Sheamus ducks out of it and re-groups.
After yet more offence from The Game (and a Crotch Chop to boot) The Celtic Warrior rolls to the outside to re-think his gameplan, but Trips follows him.
Figure 4 Leg-Lock from The Game, as ‘Woo’s’ ring out around the arena, but Sheamus makes it to the ropes.
Sheamus has turned the tides here, whipping Triple H into the steel steps which go flying at the velocity.
Big Backbreaker from Sheamus… and another!
After some more brutal offence Sheamus covers a couple of times, but Triple H gets the shoulder up after 2 at each attempt.
Impressive domination from the New Fighting Irishman so far, I tipped him to win the match but I didn’t expect him to control things as much as he has done so far (something that Michael Cole also said just as I’d typed that. Creepy.)
Sleeper applied by the pale punisher, but The Game battles out and has changed the momentum with a huge DDT.
Slugfest now, with every Triple H shot getting cheered.
High Knee! Harley Race would be proud!
Facebuster! 1..2.. Sheamus kicks out.
Pedigree! No, Sheamus counters but Triple H follows up with a big Neckbreaker that almost grabs a 3.
Big mounted shots in the corner from Triple H but Sheamus escapes.
Sheamus goes for the Celtic Cross, but Triple H avoids it!
Same story with the Pump Kick, and then the Pedigree!
Pump Kick! Sheamus lands it! 1..2.. Triple H kicks out!
The crowd are chanting for The Game, but he looks to be in a bad way. Sheamus sets up for the Celtic Cross again but Triple H avoids it.
Spinebuster from Triple H! 1..2.. another kick out!
Another Pump Kick! Triple H looks like he’s out cold….
Pedigree! Triple H played possum, popping up just when it mattered to hit his finisher!
One…Two…Three!
That’s more like it! I wouldn’t quite say WrestleMania classic, but certainly the best match of the night so far.
Although he lost, this match has done no harm to Sheamus, who finally put on a performance worthy of the push he’s been given recently.
Triple H wins by Pinfall.
Match 5
Singles Match
Rey Mysterio
Vs.
CM Punk (w/ The Straight Edge Society)
Brilliant, Punk’s got a microphone in his hand.
He’s insulting the 70,000 strong attending audience, calling them druggies and alcoholics who think Rey Mysterio is a ‘Superhero’ who will make the bad men go away.
Punk hails himself as a saviour for Rey and everyone else, telling them he is simply ‘better’ than they are.
Rey Mysterio’s music has been playing for the past minute or so, but the pint-sized underdog hasn’t emerged yet.
Oh, here he is. A surprisingly ‘toned down’ outfit for the lucha-legend tonight, not like his usual WrestleMania attires at all.
Apparently he’s paying tribute to Avatar, but I completely missed that aspect until Michael Cole pointed it out. He has the dreadlocked hair, and his outfit is blue, that’s where the similarity begins and ends.
Both men are in the ring, so this match will be starting shortly…
Feisty start from both men, and the individuals on the outside too. Gallows and Serena have both been involved already, and Punk has already ruined any chance of having Straight Edge offspring by wrapping his legs around the ringpost after failing to hit a Baseball Slide into the corner.
Part of me wishes Mysterio had beaten Gallows a few weeks back, so this had been made a Street Fight. Nothing would have made my WrestleMania night more than seeing Mysterio get triple teamed and battered with chairs, tinfoil bins, kendo sticks and the likes.
That said, I would LOVE to see Rey be forced to join the Straight Edge Society, and for the first time in god knows how long, I’ve found myself willing Punk on to a victory.
This one has gone back and forth a lot so far. Springboard jump-flipping DDT from Rey, it looked kind of botched though, and Punk’s head hit the canvas hard.
619…reversed.
GTS…reversed!
Eddie Guerrero Style Frog Splash…reversed!
Rey goes for the 619 again but Serena makes the save!
Distraction from Gallows, but Mysterio flips Punk into his mid-section!
619…Splash…1..2..3!
Booooo! Well this whole angle was pointless.
I was sure Rey would be ‘joining’ the S.E.S and this result has completely shocked me (and thrown out any chance I might have had to become the WWEBlog Predictions Champion.)
Still, I suppose it’s kept the kids happy.
Rey Mysterio wins by Pinfall.
Match 6
No Holds Barred Match
Bret “Hitman” Hart
Vs.
Vince McMahon
After 13 years, we’re finally going to see it happen!
I hope no ones expecting a Wrestling master-class, but what we should get is history being made.
Bret’s music just hit and let me tell you, if there had been a roof on the arena it would have just blown off.
The Hitman’s come dressed in exactly the same thing we’ve seen him cutting promos in for the past three months. Anyone expecting some pink and black spandex is going to be sorely disappointed.
McMahon’s got a microphone, lets see what he’s got to say. No doubt he’ll have a twist in store for us.
He tells Bret that he’s in HIS ring at HIS greatest creation; WrestleMania.
Vince says that Hart deserves a WrestleMania size screwing, so he’s shelled out a lot of $$ to buy himself a whole bunch of Lumberjacks and a guest referee.
He says that Bret Screwed Bret, Vince Screwed Bret and now Bret’s whole family are going to screw Bret.
From the back The Hart Dynasty and the whole of the Hart family pile out and surround the ring. Wow, I didn’t see this coming.
Bruce Hart, Stu’s second son, slides into the ring and removes his jacket to reveal a referee’s shirt. He shakes Vince’s hand.
Bret grabs a microphone and asks his family if they’ve agreed to this, which they nod to.
He asks them if they all got paid up front, then says that the one thing he’s learned from the Montreal Screwjob, is there’s nothing better than a good double cross!
He reveals that his family are stronger than ever, and WrestleMania XXVI is forever going to be remembered as the night Bret Screwed Vince!
Bruce hugs Bret and the other Hart’s begin banging on the apron in appreciation as the match gets under-way!
McMahon’s crawled to the outside after taking some shots from Bret. Bad idea!
Huge slap from Natalya as D.H and Tyson hold him.
The Harts are doing a number on Vince, Tyson Kidd just socked him right around the head!
Wow, huge Hart Attack from D.H and Tyson from the top rope all the way to the outside! McMahon’s head hit the mats HARD.
Vince is back in the ring now and Bret is wearing down the legs… I wonder what for…
McMahon just crawled under the ring and emerged with a crowbar! The Harts are all backing off.
Bret manages to disarm Vince and starts to drive the crowbar down onto his back time and time again.
As McMahon begs for mercy Bret drives the bar into his chin, before tossing it to the outside and positioning himself around the ankles of the boss…
Sharpshooter… No, wait. Bret drops it and takes a couple more shots with the crowbar first, then delivers a few low blows for good measure.
This is going on too long, something has to go wrong….
D.H Smith slides a chair into the ring and Bret sets it up, then takes a seat while McMahon drags himself to his feet.
Chair shot to the back! And another! And a third time! 4th! 5th! 6th! 7th! 8th! 9th! 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th.
With the chair a mangled wreck Bret finally goes back to the ankles as the Hart family begin to bang on the ring in anticipation.
Here it comes…
Sharpshooter!
Vince taps like a drunk and this match is finally over.
Wow. I’d be surprised if we see Vince for a few weeks, if not months. He took some serious punishment in that one.
One of those chair shots landed right on the elbow, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t shatter the bone.
Love-in time for the Hart family. Are The Hart Dynasty faces now? I guess we’ll see.
The attendance was confirmed after this match, at over 72,000.
Bret Hart wins by Submission.
Match 7
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Chris Jericho (c)
Vs.
Edge
Wait a second, doesn’t tradition dictate that the Royal Rumble winner participates in the Main Event match?
I could sort of forgive them for putting Michaels/Taker and even Cena/Batista after this match, but to put that 10 Diva match after it? What the hell?!
If I were Edge or Jericho I’d be incredibly pissed off by this point.
True, part of my anguish stems from the fact I desperately need the toilet and I’d planned on using the Divas match to answer the call of nature, but it’s still pretty messed up that the winner of the Royal Rumble has to go up before a pointless Divas bout.
Tony Chimmel’s voice just broke while he was introducing Edge, guess he got a little too excited.
After a relatively slow start to the match this thing has heated up.
Edge just hit a big X-Factor type move from the top rope, but it only grabbed a 2 count.
The commentary team have spent the majority of the match discussing how well Edge has done to come back from a career threatening injury.
CodeBreaker… reversed!
Edge is calling for it, so are the crowd… Spear!
No! Jericho reverses it and locks on the Walls of Jericho!
Edge can’t make it to the ropes, will he tap?!
No, he reverses it and rolls Jericho up getting another near-fall.
Fast paced back and forth here!
Edgecution! But Jericho kicks out on 2 again. Boy, we’ve seen a lot of near-falls after moves that would normally end matches tonight.
Gutting, I’ve spent so long trying to keep up with things that my beer’s got warm.
Wait, Jericho’s going for the Spear!
Edge avoids it and hits the harshest Big Boot I’ve ever seen!
Spear! Spear! Spear! The crowd are calling for it….
No! Jericho reverses right into a CodeBreaker!
He crawls over to Edge’s prone body to make the cover 1..2.. Kick out! 1..2.. another kick out!
Jericho has finally zeroed in on the injured achilles, stamping and kicking at the ankle as Edge writhes in pain.
Walls of Jericho again! Edge is a long long way from the ropes too.
He’s crawling… but Jericho drags him back to the centre and sits down into a Single Leg Crab on the injured leg.
Edge is in agony, surely he can’t last much longer…
Edge breaks the hold by making it to the ropes!
Amazing stuff here, I thought it was over!
The match has spilled out of the ring, Jericho’s grabbed the title but Edge doesn’t give him chance to use it.
Ref Bump!
Jericho swings the title… and connects with Edge’s skull! Jericho covers and the referee recovers to count, but Edge somehow kicks out on two!
CodeBreaker! 1..2..3!
It’s all over, and surprisingly Jericho has managed to keep hold of his gold.
Happy faces all round at WWEBlog Towers, we all love Jericho.
We’ve got some afters here. Jericho tried his best to wrap Edge’s injured Achilles around the ring-post, but The Rated R Superstar avoided it.
Edge has stripped the announce tables and laid Jericho on the one nearest the time keepers area.
He’s up on the other table… Spear!
My god, he just Speared Jericho from the table, through the barricade and into the timekeepers area!
That was a big bump and both men seemed to feel it, but on the plus side, the Spanish Announce Table is still in tact, for now at least.
Chris Jericho retains the World Heavyweight Championship by Pinfall.
Segment 3
Mania 26 Battle Royal
Before the show started properly the fans in the arena were treated to a Battle Royal, aka a way to get all the people who aren’t being used onto the card.
Yoshi Tatsu grabbed the victory, but the big news for me was that Finlay participated. I thought he’d fallen off the face of the earth.
Match 8
5 on 5 Divas Tag Team Match
Beth Phoenix
Gail Kim
Mickie James
Eve
Kelly Kelly
Vs.
Michelle McCool
Layla
Maryse
Alicia Fox
Vickie Guererro
Man I’d have rather watched the damn battle royal than this load of crap.
When I returned from the toilet the match had broken down and all the Divas were hitting their finishers on each other.
Beth looked like getting her hands on Vickie, but Michelle McCool made the save, then helped Vickie hit the ‘Hog Splash’ on Kelly Kelly.
However, being Vickie she couldn’t even manage to execute a pin-cover correctly, pulling Kelly Kelly’s legs so far back that her shoulders came off the mat and the referee was forced to stop the count.
After pancaking Kelly to cover up for her mistake, Vickie covered again and got the 1..2..3.
If the Divas division hadn’t been mocked enough on WWEBlog in the past, it’s certainly going to be from this point on.
Dire, pointless and embarrassing for pretty much everyone involved.
Vickie Guerrero & Co win by Pinfall.
Match 9
WWE Championship Match
Batista (c)
Vs.
John Cena
Unsurprisingly Cena’s got another ‘Special’ entrance for WrestleMania this year.
The United States Honour Guard appeared at the top of the ramp and put on a gun demonstration which was actually pretty impressive.
Cena just marched through the middle of them, saluted and headed straight for the ring.
It wasn’t C.M Punk dressed as a mobster, but it wasn’t bad none the less.
In my personal opinion I don’t think the fact that this match is before the Career Vs. Streak bout bodes well for Shawn Michaels, I mean it has to be a main-event for a reason, right?
We’ve just had an e-mail through asking who’s winning in the WWEBlog Prediction battle, so I’ve just tallied things up and so far the standings are as follows:
GRuz : 4
DanG : 4
JayD : 4
Jillian : 5
Frank : 5
The Informant : 3
So as you can see, our resident feature writers Jillian and Frank are out in front and can’t actually be beaten by this point in the night, as everyone made the same call for this match, and almost everyone made the same call for the Main Event too.. apart from GRuz.
If HBK should pull out a win in the main event, GRuz will salvage at least some dignity for the predictions team, by tying things up.
Anyway, back in the ring this has been a slow if not impressive match so far.
Batista is focusing on John Cena’s neck, which he broke at Summerslam.
I personally hate the whole ‘focusing on a body part’ bit, and I honestly expected more from a WrestleMania championship match.
Cena’s finally started to battle back and I hope that’s the last we’ve seen of this neck injury business.
Cena goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, drawing immense boos, but Batista reverses into a Spinebuster, which draws huge cheers!
Cena’s reversed things again and locked in the STF! But Batista makes it to the ropes just before tapping out.
Spear from The Animal! 1..2.. Cena kicks out.
Batista’s setting up a Superplex, but Cena is battling out of it, and the two are now engaged in a test of strength on the top rope.
Cena wins and drops Batista to the canvas, Cena’s on the top rope!
Five Knuckle Shuffle from the top rope!
Attitude Adjustment! No, Batista grabs the top rope!
Batista Bomb! 1..2.. Cena kicks out! I’d actually typed the 3 there but somehow Cena lifted the shoulder up!
A huge Cena chant has broken out now, damn these WWE crowds are fickle.
Attitude Adjustment, reversed! Reversed back into the Attitude Adjustment again! Hits it!
1..2.. Batista kicks out! Man that was a huge Double A as well, I thought that was the end right there, maybe the WWE’s Golden Boy isn’t going to claim the title here!
Cena flies from the top rope… and gets caught in a Batista Bomb!
Batista goes for a second but Cena reverses it and locks in the STF!
Batista is so close to the ropes, but he can’t get to them!
Batista taps! Cena’s the champion!
Well, I can’t say as I’m happy with the outcome, but it’s what we all expected, and a far better match than the last time they met at SummerSlam.
John Cena wins the WWE Championship by Submission.
Main Event Match
Career Vs. Streak Pinfalls & Submissions Match
Shawn Michaels
Vs.
The Undertaker
Here we are, at the main event of WrestleMania XXVI, and what a main event it should be.
39% of our voting fans said this was the match they were most looking forward to, and as the promo videos play I’m starting to realise why.
I didn’t agree with the main event not being a title match at first, but after last year’s match I can understand why they are giving this top billing, especially if there is some sort of sting in the tail as many have predicted there will be.
It’s also the match that will decide the victor in our DanG Vs. GRuz predictionists battle, as although Jillian and Frank have already built up an unbeatable lead, our two previews and predictions specialists are tied up and this match WILL decide a winner.
GRuz will be cheering on Shawn Michaels, while DanG will be pulling for The Undertaker, but who will come out on top when all is said and done? I guess we’ll find out shortly.
Although I plumped for The Undertaker in my previews articles, I have to say that right now I don’t have a clue what’s going to happen. I can’t imagine the WWE without The Heartbreak Kid, but then I can’t see him being the one to end the illustrious streak either.
One positive already is that The Undertaker has made it to the ring without being set on fire by one of his own pyros.
Sadly his entrance lacked torch-bearing druids, but he did rise up through the entrance ramp and as always his slow walk to the ring created an amazing atmosphere in the open-topped arena.
HBK just pulled the ‘Cut throat’ taunt as the two stood face to face, although all that seems to have done is enrage The Deadman, who starts this match full throttle, hitting Snake Eyes in less than a minute.
Taker looks to take it Old School, and connects with a thunderous shot from the top rope!
Taker’s setting up for the Chokeslam! But Michaels avoids it and strikes with a low shot to Taker’s knee, which appears to have taken some damage during the Old School.
The Deadman looks for a Tombstone but again Michaels avoids it and goes for the Sweet Chin Music, but that also fails to connect.
Taker’s knee is clearly troubling him, and Michaels has started to focus on it, preventing his opponent from flying over the top rope by chopping at the injured limb.
Legdrop on the apron from The Undertaker, but it did as much damage to him as it did Shawn and by the time he tried to capitalise on it Michaels had recovered.
Figure 4 locked in by Michaels! Taker is in serious trouble here, but he manages to reverse the pressure and break the hold.
HBK pops up as he so often does, but Taker catches him and strikes with the Chokeslam! 1..2.. Kick out!
The Deadman goes for a Tombstone, but Michaels wriggles out and locks in an Ankle Lock, right in the centre of the ring!
Taker gets out of it and the two are now battling on the outside…
Tombstone! On the outside! But the Pinfall has to take place in the ring!
Hmmm, the camera just cut to the top of the ramp for a few seconds, but no one was there. Could this be a sign of something to come?
An EMT has appeared now and is checking on Michaels. Taker throws the medic to the side and rolls Shawn into the ring, grabbing a very long 2 count.
Last Ride! But Taker’s leg buckled and Michaels reversed it into a kind of X-Factor (that’s the second time we’ve seen one of those tonight) that scored a 2 count.
HBK climbs to the top rope and sets up for his trademark Elbow Drop, but The Deadman gets his knees up and counters.
Hell’s Gate! But Michaels flips over the top and covers, forcing Taker to relinquish the hold.
Sweet. Chin. Music. Literally out of nowhere! 1..2.. Taker kicks out!
Shawn’s tuning up the band for a second one, but Taker blocks it and sets up once again for the Last Ride!
Hits it! 1..2.. Kick out AGAIN! Man, this is almost as good as last year!
Oh no! Taker is stripping the announce table, luckily he hasn’t focused on the Spanish one… yet.
Taker’s setting up for the Last Ride again… But HBK drops off the back and strikes with Sweet Chin Music, sending him flying onto the table.
Michaels is climbing the turnbuckle… surely not!
MOONSAULT! Oh My God!
Shawn hit it, but he didn’t get all of it, he landed right on Taker’s knee and there’s every chance it could have broken his leg in two.
Both men are back in the ring now and struggling to find their feet…
Sweet Chin Music! 1..2.. No! Taker kicks out AGAIN!
I can’t believe this. I have to agree with the crowd. This IS Awesome.
Michaels goes for the Sweet Chin Music again, but Taker catches him…
Chokeslam! He’s calling for the Tombstone.
Tombstone! 1..2.. Kick out!
I don’t think anyone can believe what they are seeing here, this is simply epic. When I saw they were re-doing last year’s stand out match I didn’t expect it to live up to the hype, but boy has it!
The straps are down! Taker means business now, both men seem to be bleeding.
Taker considers doing the ‘cut throat’ motion, but then stops. He just shouted ’stay down’ at Michaels, but the Heartbreak Kid refuses to do so, dragging himself up, doing the cut-throat himself before slapping The Deadman around the face.
Tombstone! 1..2..3!
That’s it folks! The Deadman has done it, but what a fantastic match.
They may as well just bring the Slammy to the ring right now, because nothing is going to top this for 2010 Match of the Year.
Stay with us folks, as there’s bound to be more happening here.
After celebrating and watching fireworks surround a huge 18-0 on the titantron The Undertaker stands Michaels up and shakes his hand.
Barely able to stand himself, Taker embraces Michaels then exits the ring, leaving Shawn to bask in the well deserved praise from the crowd.
The WWE has lost a true legend tonight and although I fully expect to see him return at some point, I’m sorry to see him go.
Once again I’ll echo the sentiments of the crowd and say ‘Thank You Shawn’, what a way to go out.
As he heads up the ramp Michaels applauds the 72,000 + attending audience, before delivering one final pose at the top with a huge smile on his face.
The Undertaker wins by Pinfall.
The End Bit
What a night!
A very good WrestleMania card topped with a sure-fire match of the year, if not match of the decade (and yes I know it’s only 2010, but seriously. What’s going to top that?)
