Hell in a Cell 2009 Live Results

Welcome once again to WWEBlog.co.uk’s live results for Hell in a Cell 2009!

For the second month running we have a representative at the event tonight! Feature writer Frank Leal is in attendance and will be writing a first person account of the event some time afterwards so look out for that!

I know a lot of you will be thinking ‘Frank Leal? I’ve never seen anything by him’ and that’s true, you won’t have. This is my fault, as I’ve taken a long time making changes to the site behind the scenes to incorporate a features section.

The good news is this is almost complete and within the next couple of weeks his ‘Spotlight On’ articles will be going live, so look out for those too.

Now I could be wrong, but it appears the show is kicking off with the World Heavyweight Championship match between C.M Punk and The Undertaker!

    Opening Match

    Hell in a Cell Match
    C.M Punk (c)
    Vs.
    The Undertaker

I can’t believe this match is up first, there has to be some sort of twist to this.

Fair enough spacing out the cell matches over the course of the night is a good idea, it stops people getting bored of the match type, but to have THIS cell match first doesn’t make any sense.

It’s the most anticipated one of the three, it’s the one that involves Smackdown’s World Title and it’s the cell match which has a far stronger storyline backing it up.

Well, both men have made it into the ring so it looks like it’s going to go ahead.

Punk showed no signs of fear as he made his way to the ring, perhaps indicating that he has something up his straight edge little sleeve.

The bell rings and the match is under way!

For some reason there is a chain running around the cell, where the bottom panels attach to the top ones. I wonder if that will come into play later on in the show.

Taker drags Punk to the outside in the early going and begins slamming him into various parts of the cell, I’m surprised they are being so adventurous so early on.

Punk just flew from the apron right into the cell (reminiscent of Tim White’s career ending injury), but then snook under the ring and Dropkicked the ring steps into The Deadman’s knee, taking control of things momentarily.

A huge Un-Der-Tak-Er/C.M Punk chant war has broken out amongst the fans, I thought everyone hated Punk?

Taker is back in control of things but he’s showing serious signs of a ‘leg injury’ and isn’t moving very fluidly at all.

Suicide Dive over the top rope from C.M Punk, his head came very close to spiking into the cell as he took The Undertaker down.

Punk comes up on the short end of a Slugfest before avoiding a Tombstone and kicking out after a big Leg Drop.

Taker’s calling for the Chokeslam…reversed with a kick to the already damaged knee.

GTS…no! Countered into a Tombstone…no! Punk avoids the finisher again and the match rolls on.

Punk grabs a steel chair from under the ring (seriously, why do they keep this stuff under there?!) and knocks his opponent down with a headshot, but can only grab a 2 count.

Last Ride! 1..2..Kick out! Remember when that move used to put almost anyone away?

Punk reverses the Old School and covers twice, both times getting a 2 count. J.R and Grisham keep speculating over what it will take to end this match.

Punk runs at Taker with the chair but gets a face full of steel himself as The Deadman gets his boot up.

Chokeslam! Taker begins to call for the Tombstone…

    Tombstone! 1..2..3!

That’s too simple, surely. You can’t put THIS match up first and have Taker grab a clean victory and the title in a match that hardly used the Cell at all.

Well I guess you can, because it’s just happened. The first time a title has changed hands inside the cell too, according to J.R.

The Undertaker wins the World Heavyweight Championship by Pinfall.

    Match 2

    Intercontinental Championship Match
    John Morrison (c)
    Vs.
    Dolph Ziggler

On Smackdown The Rock asked ‘Who in the blue hell is Dolph Ziggler?’, well hopefully tonight he’ll put his name in the books by picking up the Intercontinental Championship.

Morrison is a great wrestler and a great champion, but I personally think he’s above the IC belt and could easily be challenging for the World title at the top of the Smackdown card.

Ziggler has started this one more aggressively than his opponent and is looking good for the win, although as we all know it’s never that simple.

Morrison still hasn’t really gotten into this match and currently finds himself locked and grounded in a side headlock.

While this match rumbled on in the background I’d like to take this opportunity to give you a friendly push in the direction of our new Facebook fanpage.

Simply click the become a fan button and you’ll instantly receive some WWEBlog based karma (Note: You might not ‘feel’ it, but it’s there.)

You’ll also get links to all our articles in your homepage as soon as we publish them and the odd update about how we’re doing.

Feel free to make use of the discussion boards and the wall there too.

Back in the ring it’s been back and forth all the way. Morrison missed a Starship Pain a few minutes back and now Ziggler is firmly in control and bending the rules by choking his rival on the bottom rope, breaking the hold at 4.

Morrison stems the flow of Ziggler-based offence with a Spinning DDT which keeps both guys down for a count of 7, before getting to their feet and slugging it out.

Morrison comes out on top and hits the Standing Shooting Star Press for a long, long 2 count.

Ziggler counters Morrison and rolls him up, grabbing the middle rope for extra leverage, 1..2.. Ooh, the referee spots him and stops the count.

Morrison flies from the top rope, Ziggler tries to avoid the impact and ends up in a Slingshot, hitting the top turnbuckle and barely kicking out of the subsequent cover.

BIG German Supplex from Ziggler (didn’t think they were allowed to do them anymore), earns him a 2 count.

Fame’asser from Ziggler (I love that move), another 2 count.

Morrison begins to set up Starship Pain but Ziggler catches him and flips him over, slamming him face first into the turnbuckle for another 2 count, inciting very small but audible ‘This is Awesome’ chant from the crowd.

Ziggler goes for the ZigZag but Morrison holds onto the ropes and avoids the impact.

Big knee to the head of Ziggler, Starship Pain! 1..2..3.

Great match, surely not the last one between the two and unfortunate for Ziggler, he should have won the title by now and another IC Title loss could really damage his push.

John Morrison retains the Intercontinental Championship by Pinfall.

    Segment 1

    Batista and Rey Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews introduces The Animal; Batista before attempting to introduce Rey Mysterio.

Batista stops him and does the introduction himself before Josh asked the pair if they are going to recreate the magic of when they won the tag titles before.

Rey says they aren’t going to re-create anything, they are going to reunite to claim the gold. He then talked about his rivalry with Jericho and said they would take the belts tonight.

Batista then said pretty much the same thing, explaining that Jeri-Show had never beaten them before and won’t tonight.

    Match 3

    Divas Championship Match
    Mickie James (c)
    Vs.
    Alicia Fox

Anyone wanting a sandwich? Glass of milk? Bathroom break?

    Here’s your chance.

By a happy coincidence I needed all three, so I had something to keep me occupied while this distinctly average divas match took place.

Fox had a few chances to pick up the win but spent too long gesturing to the crowd and eventually fell victim to Mickie’s jumping DDT after missing the Scissors Kick.

Mickie James retains the Divas Championship by Pinfall.

    Match 4

    Tag Team Championship Match
    Jeri-Show (c)
    Vs.
    Batista & Rey Mysterio

Mysterio kicked off the match with his familiar fast paced style before tagging in The Animal. It’s all Batistirio at the minute. What? It worked for Jeri-Show.

Batista and Rey are showing some strong signs of teamwork here which doesn’t bode well for the tag team champs, both in terms of the match and the probable outcome.

Jericho finally tags in The Big Show who waits while Rey decides whether to tag in Batista or not.

Rey decides to take on the giant himself and instantly regrets it, being slammed to the canvas and stood on before taking a big slap to the chest on the top rope, which sends him toppling all the way to the outside.

Mysterio beats the count at 7 with an assist from Show, who wraps his ridiculously big hand around his head and lifts him from the outside, over the top rope and back into the ring.

Freakish strength demonstrated by The Big Show there.

Jericho takes the tag now that Mysterio is down and quickly locks on a Full Nelson, grounding him momentarily.

In another throw back to the Mysterio/Jericho rivalry of a few months ago Jericho attempts to peel off his rival’s mask, but this only serves to distract the 2008 Superstar of the Year and Mysterio is able to make the tag.

Batista explodes into the ring, taking out both men with a flurry of offence ending with a Spinebuster on Jericho that grabbed a 2 count.

The Big Show grabs Batista’s leg, distracting him long enough for Jericho to recover.

    CodeBreaker! 1..2..Batista kicks out!

Big Show gets the tag and begins to wear Batista down. Chokeslam!

Mysterio breaks up what would surely have been a successful cover.

Batista avoids the Lionsault from Jericho before both men make tags, Mysterio gets the better of The Big Show and gets a 2 count but Show powers out with some serious power.

A lot just happened in quick succession, I’ll try and cover it all:

Show got dumped outside, Jericho avoided a 619 but Mysterio caught Show with it instead, Jericho gets thrown over the top and caught by The Big Show, Batista spears both men to the floor.

    Phew.

Back in the ring now and Show is set up for the 619…hits it.

Mysterio goes for the Springboard…Oooh Show catches him with the Knockout Punch and covers for the 3 count.

Jeri-Show retain the titles! Not to poke fun or say ‘I told you so’ but Gabe… tut tut.

Jeri-Show retain the Unified Tag Team Championships by Pinfall.

    Match 5

WWE Championship Hell in a Cell Match
    John Cena (c)
    Vs.
    Randy Orton

Alright, something HUGE must be set to go down in the DX/Legacy match.

I can’t see any other reason for neither of the world titles being involved in the main event, never mind BEFORE a United States Championship match.

After Orton’s music had stopped playing a fairly loud ‘Cena Sucks’ chant echoed around the arena and the boos were clear for all to hear as his music hit. Cole covered it with the usual ‘no one evokes emotions in the WWE fans quite like Cena’ crap.

I’ve never heard a reaction to Cena quite like this, Frank might correct me when he writes his report but from home it seemed like the crowd were completely dead as he made his way down the ramp.

Another fairly mixed reaction came from the crowd for both guys as they were announced, although Cena seemed to get the lions share of the booing.

The bell rings and we are under way.

Orton flees straight to the outside and tries to pull the door open, but the padlock and chain prevented him from getting any further.

As the two men brawl and the crowd continue to heckle Cena, Michael Cole explains that the Cell tonight was specially made to keep people inside, as it is a re-enforced version that is stronger than the ones we have seen in the past.

Cena is the first to hit the steel, taking a Shoulder Tackle that sent him flying from the apron and into the cage.

Classic moment as Orton tries to throw the steel steps into the ring. After initially failing but pushing them over the top rope as they bounced back, Orton showed the fans what he thought of their reaction by giving the ‘Forearm Jerk’ gesture.

Orton attempts to deliver the rope-assisted DDT onto the steps but Cena avoids it and flips him over the top rope to the outside.

With Orton propped up against the door Cena hurled the steps at him but The Legend Killer had the wherewithal to move out of the way and the match continues. I wonder if that was designed to burst the door open?

Cena hits the Five Kuckle Shuffle then goes for the Attitude Adjustment but Orton avoids it and moments later hits the rope-assisted DDT.

Orton calls for the RKO but Cena reverses it right into an Attitude Adjustment!

1..2..Orton kicks out! Cena can’t believe it! I can’t believe it!

Cena sets Orton up for an Attitude Adjustment from the second rope but he avoids it and hits an Electric Chair Drop for another 2 count.

After another battle on the second rope Cena knocks Orton to the canvas and goes for the Legdrop but fails to deliver once again.

Orton slithers to the outside and grabs a Steel Chair, something that ended up being Punk’s downfall. He lines up his shot and drives it into Cena’s surgically repaired neck.

After failing to get  the pinfall once again Orton places Cena’s head on the chair and goes for the Knee Drop, but Cena moves and moments later locks on the STF.

Orton gets to the ropes but the referee is powerless to break the hold. He crawls under the bottom rope and forces Cena to release the submission, but then gets dragged back to the centre of the ring.

Ref Bump! Orton kicks Cena away and he collides with the ref who flies to the outside.

STF locked back in, Orton’s tapping, Cena releases the hold but the referee never saw it!

Cena realises what’s happened and goes to check on the official, helping him back into the ring.

RKO! Who didn’t see that coming? 1..2.. Cena kicks out, mostly due to the incredibly laboured counting by the referee.

Orton looks completely perplexed, wondering what he has to do to get the win.

Orton ties Cena up in the ropes then begins to choke him out, finally releasing the hold as the champ’s body goes limp.

The referee free’s Cena from the ropes and he flops to the floor in a ‘Nature Boy’ kind of way, Orton looking on from the corner.

Punt. One of the worst punt’s I’ve ever seen by the way. 1..2..3, it’s all over.

Orton is champion once again in a match that once again didn’t really utilise the cell. I guess that’s the problem with having 3 of them in one night, the first two can’t really do too much in case they damage the structure before the final match.

Randy Orton becomes the NEW WWE Champion by Pinfall.

    Segment 2

    R-Truth Interviewed

Backstage Josh Mathews speaks to R-Truth about his simmering rivalry with Drew McIntyre.

After a video montage of their numerous set-to’s, Mathews asks how R-Truth feels about going 1 on 1 with Drew McIntyre tonight…wait, what?

Did anyone else know about this? Looks like we’ve got an impromptu match up next.

Truth says he’s been disrespected one time too many by McIntyre and if he wants respect he’s going to have to earn it tonight.

    Match 6

    Singles Match
    R-Truth
    Vs.
    Drew McIntyre

Now I could be wrong (feel free to email me if I am) but I think this might be McIntyre’s first ‘official’ match since appearing on Smackdown around a month ago.

As a result of this, and the relatively low amount of exposure this rivalry has received so far, the crowd almost instantly broke out into a ‘borrr-ing’ chant that continued off and on throughout the whole match.

McIntyre looked pretty good for a PPV débutante and picked up the win with a Double Arm DDT.

This wasn’t terrible but I’d argue the fact it had a place on a Pay Per View card when there isn’t even an ECW Title bout booked.

    Drew McIntyre wins by Pinfall.

    Segment 3

    Legacy Backstage

Back in the dressing room Randy Orton is sat clutching his WWE Championship when Rhodes and DiBiase walk in and congratulate him.

They say that after they dispatch DX the three of them will hit the town and celebrate.

Orton tells them that regardless of who wins, you don’t just walk out of Hell in a Cell.

DiBiase says they are certain winners tonight before Rhodes tells Orton he’s starting to sound like his old man.

Orton says it’s good that they are cocky but tells them that they have no idea what they are getting into.

He tells Rhodes that he isn’t his old man, he’s the WWE Champion and if he were them he’d listen.

DiBiase says that if he was Orton he wouldn’t underestimate them, before walking out of the dressing room.

    Match 7

Triple Threat United States Championship Match
    Kofi Kingston (c)
    Vs.
    The Miz
    Vs.
    Jack Swagger

The Miz does a little trash talking about Newark, New Jersey as he makes his way to the ring, begging the Mayor to ban him so he has an excuse never to come back again.

In return he promises to put Newark on the map for something positive, by winning the U.S Championship there.

As Gabe predicted in his Previews and Predictions King and Cole almost instantly began pointing out how this match doesn’t favour the champion, explaining that they have to not only get pinned but prevent one of the other two guys getting pinned.

Isn’t that the case regardless of if you’re the champion or not though?

Kingston starts off well but it isn’t long before the numbers game catches up as The Miz and Swagger decide to pool their efforts in an attempt to take the champion out of the match early.

However, it wasn’t long before the two heels turned on each other and a true 3-way-brawl broke out.

The Miz controls things for a while until Swagger and Kofi hit him with a kind of Doomsday Device Cross Body, before battling with each other.

Kingston hits the Boom Drop on Swagger, The Miz breaks up the pinfall and keeps the match going.

Trouble In Paradise on Swagger! Skull Crushing Finale on Kofi! 1..2.. Swagger somehow saves the match by putting Kofi’s foot on the rope.

Man the replay of the Trouble in Paradise showed just how well Kofi connected, I’m surprised Swagger isn’t spitting out teeth.

Gutwrench Powerbomb on The Miz! Trouble in Paradise on Swagger! Kofi covers The Miz for the 3 and retains his United States Championship!

Kofi Kingston retains the United States Championship by Pinfall.

    Main Event Match

Tag Team Hell in a Cell Match
    DX
    Vs.
    Legacy

This match is in full flow and no one has even set foot inside the Hell in a Cell yet.

As DX made their way to the ring Legacy jumped them from behind and the two teams have been brawling round the edges of the cell ever since.

After dumping DiBiase into the lap of the Raw announce team Triple H drills Rhodes with a monitor then (along with HBK) supplex him onto the announce table, which doesn’t give an inch as his body bounces off the top of it.

DiBiase explodes over the other announce table and drives Triple H into the cell, then throws him into the crowd where they begin to brawl.

HBK and Rhodes too head into a different section of the crowd and I think it’s safe to say things have completely broken down here.

Michaels flips Rhodes over the barricade and his knee brutally wraps around the corner of the cell. He somehow gets to his feet and grabs the door chain, hitting Michaels in the knee before sprinting up the ramp to where Triple H and DiBiase had ended up.

He hit Triple H with the chain then the pair of them systematically demolished The Game on the steel, Rhodes hitting the CrossRhodes to put him down.

Legacy then head back to the ring where Rhodes holds HBK in the doorway while DiBiase slams the door onto the already injured leg multiple times.

Legacy drag HBK inside the cell and chain the door shut. The match finally begins, albeit with one man still on the outside.

Shawn pulls himself to his feet, Legacy allow him time to realise how bad his current situation is, then begin to beat him down mercilessly.

Legacy hit the High/Low but Michaels kicks out, his pride not letting him take the fall.

Rhodes and DiBiase continue their domination, working over HBK’s injured leg while Triple H still lays prone at the top of the ramp.

HBK pulls a chair from under the ring and throws it at Rhodes, mounting some laboured offence as Triple H finally stirs and begins to drag himself slowly towards the ring.

As Triple H tries his hardest to get into the cell, Michael Cole babbles on about how the cell has been re-enforced to prevent people getting in or out, meanwhile HBK continues to hold his own inside the ring.

Sweet Chin Music on DiBiase! Shawn covers but Rhodes recovers just in time to break the count, then drills Michaels with the chair as Triple H watches on helplessly.

Triple H grabs a chair and starts whaling away on the chain, which doesn’t budge. He then wedges the chair through the small gap and tries to pry the door open, but that doesn’t work either.

The Game then resorts to giving HBK a pep talk, while Legacy ask him what he can possibly do from the outside.

Triple H then walks away to the back. Legacy gloat and tell HBK that his partner has left him, before driving his back into the cell and the ringpost multiple times.

Shawn attempts to fight back but the numbers catch up with him all too soon and DiBiase tells his partner it’s time to finish this.

Rhodes holds a Steel Chair next to Shawn’s head while DiBiase delivers a Dropkick, then the two begin to mock DX, holding their hands above their heads.

They then begin to set HBK up for the Figure 4/Million Dollar Dream combo around the ringpost, but just as they get it locked in Triple H emerges with some bolt cutters.

Realising what is going on Legacy release the hold and DiBiase hits Dream Street on a chair, but it’s just too late as The Game bursts through the door just in time to save his partner.

Triple H breaks down both members of Legacy, hitting a Spinebuster on the steel chair in the process.

As he begins to set up the Pedigree DiBiase cuts him off but Michaels pounces on him and shows that he’s not done yet.

Another referee walks to the ring and goes to lock the cell back up, but Triple H takes the chain from him and wraps it around his fist, which he then wraps around DiBiase’s face.

Triple H hits the Pedigree then dumps DiBiase to the outside of the cell, re-entering with the bolt cutters and locking the door behind him, flipping the match completely on it’s head.

Triple H grabs a Sledgehammer, then he and HBK begin to ‘tune up the band’, hitting Rhodes with a Sweet Chin Music/Sledgehammer Shot combo.

HBK covers for the 3 count to wrap up a very clever match and a brilliant Pay Per View.

As the cell is lifted DiBiase tries to come to the aid of Rhodes, only to be hit with a Sweet Chin Music as well.

DX pose and crotch chop over their fallen opponents as Hell in a Cell 2009 comes to an end.

D Generation X win by Pinfall.

    The End

Thanks once again for joining us for Live Results.

This was a fantastic Pay Per View, probably one of the best this year and we’re glad you chose to follow it with us.

Look out for Frank Leal’s first person account of the event coming very soon and we hope to see you again next month at Bragging Rights!
